I would be interested in knowing in what context he made this statement. I have a lot to say about it, but first want to be sure I am following his line of thought. What more can you provide?

I think he's also getting at that we all need to care about where humanity is going. There are alot of people who don't look outside their own little world. I think what he is trying to say is that the salvation of mankind will only come when everyone cares about the salvation of mankind.
