I think this is very true. The thought that comes to mind is Hollywood. Right now, Hollywood is suffering the worst slump, or very close to it, in its entire history. Month after month after month, box-office sales are down from previous years. Could it be that people are growing weary of the constant barrage of mediocre, predictable films about negative subject matter? Funny thing is, the movies that consistantly do well through all of this are family oriented, wholesome films that tell stories of the triumphs of the human spirit! Hollywood is so disconnected with its viewers that it doesn't understand why numbers are down, and yet over and over the viewers are telling them with their wallets that what they want are more positive films that depict the best in us. I, for one, like all kinds of films, so I'm not going to say that I limit myself to G or PG rated stuff. But I would really like to see more movies made with some kind of redemptive value to it than most of what is being put out right now. If there is one more comment that I can make regarding this quote, and I think it is a good one, it's that singers such as Bruce Springsteen, Lara Fabian, Cindy Morgan, Tina Arena, and Delta Goodrem have that ability to encourage and inspire us to all that we can be. Their music speaks to the human spirit, and in Bruce's own words, calls us to "Rise up, come on rise up...." Leona, thank you for the quote!

I agree with what you have written. I like movies that are thought provoking, sometimes they are "R" rated movies but it's not that I like that things that make it rated like that but if the movie keeps it real and doesn't put excess of the violence, sex and etc I really don't mind it. Most war movies are rated "R" but that's because that's the reality of it, there's violence in war. I dislike all the sex, violence, and swearing in movies when it is not needed to tell the story.
As far as music the same thing is happening, music that's on radio isn't about the emotions we feel, the human spirit, and real life stories anymore. I think that's why a lot of people don't listen to radio anymore, instead sticking to those artists we can trust and maybe listening once or twice a year to figure out if there are any new artists that they should be noticing. I think the reason that's the music industry is down has less to do with downloading and more to do with the lack of quality of product. I find I am more willing to pay more for something that is good quality (in the music industry: good quality music involving the human spirit).
