Lara continued with her media appearances this past week; we’ll present them numerically for clarity:
1)Lara was on the program Quelle Epoque! this past weekend on France 2. Prior to the show she put an interesting picture of herself on her social media sites at
www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=991229305694696&set=a.259330798884554
advertising her appearance there. During the show she sang a short duet of “Tu es mon autre” with Charlotte Dhenaux, the host of the show who is a comedian, musician, author and actress. Lara put a link to it on her Instagram site, and it can be seen at
and also at
www.youtube.com/watch?v=A4D1Vrwclp4
Given that the two women were not together on the stage, with Lara singing from her seat, one wonders whether this was actually planned…
Afterwards, Charlotte wrote to Lara, “You are one of those souls that embrace and carry emotions. Your generosity, gentleness and sincerity are endless. For it all, THANK YOU! 14 or 36 year old fan, idk anymore!”
Lara’s appearance as a whole on the show can be seen at
www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qqqdod9e4p4
As you can see, it was not the only duet involving Lara that was shown…
One portion of her interview that received attention concerned her weight, as discussed at (https://www.lesacdechips.com/2024/03/25/lara-fabian-sest-fait-dire-quelle-etait-grosse-a-ses-debuts):

LARA FABIAN WAS TOLD SHE WAS 'FAT' IN HER EARLY DAYS
Lara Fabian did not let herself be defeated despite harsh, even cruel, criticism at the start of her career.
The 54-year-old singer returned on Sunday for the show Quelle époque! about the terrible remarks that were made “in front of her”, particularly about her physique, when she was still trying to break into music.
The presenter of the show, Léa Salamé, cited a few of them: “You sing too well; You'll never get there; We don't need a Mireille Mathieu; Anyway, she's big; When you’re ugly, you don’t do this job.”
However, the Belgian-Canadian singer, who obviously did not mince her words in the hit J’y crois encore, claimed to have turned these criticisms to her advantage.
“All these obstacles, all these impossibilities announced by others were my greatest teachers, my greatest lessons, ultimately,” she declared.
“It was extraordinary to see how resilient I was.”
Faced with this profession which, according to her, “chose her”, Lara Fabian had to rely more on her courage than her talent to move forward.
“It took a lot more courage than talent to cross. And ultimately, that’s what was the biggest poorly wrapped gift of my life, it was putting myself to the test,” she conceded.
She also thanked her detractors for allowing her, among other things, to “measure what it was to be truly loved.”
Lara Fabian saw her career take off in 1997 after the release of her album Pure, thanks in particular to the success of the hits Je t'aime and Tout .
She then released around ten other albums, became known internationally in several languages and participated in musical television shows, including Les Enfoirés and The Voice on TF1, and La Voix in Quebec.

2)Lara was also on Clique - CANAL+, the show visible at

(Thanks to the Lara Fabian America FB site for the link).
Here are some of the points raised, neglecting those we know very well:
**The host started out by saying what others have during this latest incarnation of Lara in France, that she is a legend (to which she replied that term is greater than a human being could be, to which he replied, ‘that’s the sort of answer a legend would give’).
**He also noted that Lara is always ‘intense’, and she replied that’s the way to be alive, to feel things more strongly.
**They talked about Lara being quite serene, and she mentioned she had learned to come to terms with her unmet needs – which she explained were the need to be heard, to be validated, the fear of being abandoned, all which ‘puts together the sauce of insecurity’.
**In discussing Lara’s ‘breakthrough’ at Eurovision as an 18 year old, she mentioned that someone told her father ahead of time that Lara would have this life changing experience, singing on a stage in front of 300 million people in another country. It was a mystical prediction that neither of them could explain. Lara’s father said, 'let’s just see what happens' – and then it happened.
**It was brought up to Lara that, looking at the top 50 performers in France today, there is a lot more diversity – the face of French music has changed. Lara noted that her family growing up was full of diversity, and it doesn’t require you to change who you are, just broaden your appreciation of diversity.
There was one more topic that was raised, and this is covered in the following article from Tele Loisirs (https://www.programme-tv.net/news/tv/349738-lara-fabian-confirme-quon-lui-a-propose-de-remplacer-michael-goldman-et-quelle-a-refuse-video/)

Lara Fabian confirms she was asked to replace Michael Goldman at Star Academy and declined
The arrival of Lara Fabian at the Château de Dammarie-les-Lys will remain one of the highlights of this eleventh edition of the Star Academy. Passing through to offer a masterclass to the semi-finalists, the Belgian-Canadian singer notably helped Pierre Garnier to get rid of all his stress a few hours before the semi-final. After asking him to sing the title Tu ne m'a pas fait le temps by David Hallyday in the most comfortable position, Lara Fabian comforted the young man by taking him in her arms. This beautiful moment of sharing moved Héléna, Julien, the tutor Marlène Schaff, as well as the viewers who, since then, have continued to campaign for the arrival of Lara Fabian within the teaching staff . But it's not won...
Lara Fabian refused to replace Michael Goldman as director of the Star Academy in France
It’s during the show Quelle epoch!, broadcast on Saturday March 23 on France 2, that Lara Fabian confirmed that the Star Academy production had offered for her to replace Michael Goldman. A proposal that the interpreter of Je t’aime kindly refused. “It is a proposition that I understood because it is my great love, transmission, (...) but I do not see myself within a teaching body, where there is already coherence, a family. That’s not my role, ” she explained to Léa Salamé and Christophe Dechavanne . News that will disappoint more than one...
Lara Fabian: “I don’t think it’s my place”
Although Lara Fabian was the director of the Star Academy in Quebec for two seasons, she does not wish to take over from Michael Goldman as director of the Château de Dammarie-les-Lys. “I don’t think it’s my place,” she said on the set of Clique. And to continue: "I believe that I can be there to contribute in a more timely (“punctual”) manner. I would be delighted to be able to make sense and contribute something (...) but the one who directs has another virtue than the one who guides or who accompanies. Me, I’m more one who accompanies.”
------------------------------
Previously, Lara had said basically the same thing, implying that the bureaucracy associated with the position, and the limitations imposed on a director concerning working directly with the talent, made it a different position from what she enjoyed in Quebec (where she basically made the position whatever she wanted it to be). In France things were already established as to what a director should be within the chain of command (“there is already a coherence”).
3)Lara was also on Télématin and posted an Instagram picture of herself with Damien Thévenot that was captured by the Lara Fabian The Netherlands FB site of her on the show, available at
www.facebook.com/photo?
fbid=960742662725791&set=a.505224328277629
The video of the show involving Lara is available at
www.youtube.com/watch?v=JNXpygWCRoE
The interview included:
**Discussion of Ta peine, and Lara’s initial dinner meeting with Slimane
** Her dreams as a little girl of ‘being in service to music’ once she came in contact with music; her grandmother had photos taken of her by the village photographer to have a little memory of her three-year-old granddaughter (whom she thought would be something special).
**Her concerts in the fall of 2025 including for the first time at the Arena, and the fact that 15,000 tickets were sold on the first day of their availability
**Various hit songs of hers, e.g.,
--Je t’aime: “It is a breakup song of course I write it with the person [Rick Allison] with whom I am experiencing a separation at this exact moment and so it is a way of saying goodbye which will mark the beginning of something which still precedes me today on this song; she is taller than me so she has made a mileage at the same time French-speaking and international. Therefore I could not imagine that a song which speaks of such pain of such a breakup also becomes the cornerstone of such a path.”
--Je suis malade: “It is the most moving to interpret…a magnificent version of which is on Carpe Diem from 95 it's a song that’s not mine; and then Serge later said ‘Je suis malade’ it's Lara's song. I found it incredible he will give me my first platinum disc in the presence of my parents he will invite me to his convention center. It is a song which will become very very important in my career and which I still sing today.”
--Broken Vow: “A very hard song technically to interpret, very emotionally charged that starts from a broken promise, a breakup in which she’s dumped.”
4)And, Lara was on 50 min inside, with a promo picture (thanks to the Lara Fabian America FB site) at

Featured was a discussion of the origins of her career with Rick Allison, as shown in the reel from Lara’s Instagram account, at
A story that we know rather well…
5)One unfortunate occurrence: Lara had to back out of her appearance on The Voice Belgium where she was scheduled to sing two songs. As she noted at
www.youtube.com/watch?v=LWaYB1GB_nk
she had “a small accident that prevented her from travelling for 48 hours”. She was very apologetic in the video, and actually looked quite sad.
Interesting photo(s)/video(s) of the week:
In association with her appearance on Quelle Epoque!, Lara posted the following picture of herself with Caroline Receveur on her social media sites,

www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=958932542906803&set=pcb.958932586240132
The Lara Fabian America FB site posted a link to a promo video of Lara’s tour in support of her first English language album in 2000, at

This tour came up with reference to the concert in Nimes (on August 11, 2000) in Lara’s discussion on Clique - CANAL+. In response to being asked for an anecdote about when Lara was very intense, she brought up the time she was brought to her knees by the audience singing “Je t’aime” to her with altered words of support, saying it was a measure of the love she received from the audience at a time when she was not very well. Perhaps the most intense moment of her career. The well-known video of that can be found at
www.youtube.com/watch?v=yTNYWa86SQg
It is noted in the comments that Lara was at the height of her vocal powers for this tour, but there are few videos of the concerts. Audios of the songs sung at Nimes can be found at
www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLD4XHkBobYygs8lCd5w3tJRtumm4orkH0
Lara does not appear to be slowing down in her French media appearances, so it looks like this might continue up to the time of her Eastern European concerts, now three weeks away, or at least until rehearsals for those shows. She certainly seems to be reveling in the attention and positive feedback – she must think that it’s about time this happened in France – too true! She should enjoy it while she can, as her experience, and that of just about every other celebrity, is that described by Joni Mitchell in the song ‘For The Roses’:
“Just when you're getting a taste for worship
They start bringing out the hammers
And the boards
And the nails”
As we know, Lara has been through this several times already in France, starting with her wonderful reception in the late 90s, followed by the severe criticism that she has recently discussed, with alternating waves of adulation and criticism thereafter. This latest peak has come after an absence of a number of years, which has wetted people’s appetite for her. Yet perhaps this time it will be different. For one, she has survived for a long while, and is being given the ‘legend’ treatment provided only to the long-term survivors in the field. And perhaps most important, people see her as not only promoting herself but helping others through her teaching – Lara herself said in a recent interview that her career (and existence as a woman) is finally aligned with her philosophy of life, which we know is one of empathy and adaptation. In effect, she herself has grown as well. This has even softened her critics, as one can read in the on-line responses to her recent appearances. Maybe this time the appreciation for her in France will stick.
