Lara’s interaction with her public served two purposes this past week: showing she still ‘cared’, and as an advertisement for products she likes, in her Instagram and facebook posts at

Little beauty tips for you girls 😉
Today I took time to treat my hair using @kerastase_official products ✨
Who are, for me, essential 🥰
And for those who want to test my hair beauty routine, I use the whole "Absolu Blonde" range as a ritual... That I think is just perfect 🙌😝
Have a nice day everyone 🤍💋

This was her first post on Facebook in 5 weeks, perhaps because she wanted to advertise those beauty products to that audience as well. That was her only obvious public 'appearance'...
The Lara Fabian America FB site posted a link to the ‘Mademoiselle Zhivago’ concert Lara gave in Moscow, on 11/5/2010, at
www.youtube.com/watch?v=F1a9Uc2pexA
The appearance of this concert brings up the subject, particularly apropos to her time in Russia, of how many of these songs were actually sung ‘live’. Warning: The following includes what has to be considered ‘speculation’, although it was widely discussed at the time. So don’t take all of this as ‘gospel truth’ , though the main thrust appears to be correct.
At the 53 minute mark, Lara introduces Giora Linenberg, who then proceeds to play the piano on the several “non-Mademoiselle Zhivago” songs Lara sings, Broken Vow and Je suis malade. It was remarked at the time, that this was one of the few portions of that concert where the audience, including the TV audience, actually heard the words Lara was singing and the notes the piano was playing. Throughout Lara’s televised performances with Igor Krutoi (and even for some of her personal concerts in Russia and the Ukraine), the general impression was that the sound going out to the public was often ‘pre-recorded’ - what you see on the stage was not what was being broadcast to the general audience. Lara was asked about this, because at one point in her career she made a point of saying she didn’t do ‘lip-synching’ (or ‘playback’ as it is called in France); she said it was clear she didn’t do it because she was so bad at it, she’d never get away with it. But when it came time for performances with Krutoi, Lara admitted that ‘he was a perfectionist’, and didn’t want anything to go wrong, so she had to give in to his desires. Also at the time people noted that one way to tell whether Lara was really singing was to look at how she held the microphone – when she was lip-synching’, she held the microphone very close to her lips all the time. To my eyes, there is less consistency in that respect during her two songs with Giora Linenberg…
This is from the News Update of 11/30/2010 (available on both the Lara Full of Grace and Laradomus URL websites), following the TV broadcast of the show in Russia on 11/26:
---------------------------------
The big news this past week was the airing on Friday night of Lara’s Moscow concert(s) on TV in Russia. Those of you who have seen the show, which is all over the web, know that it was a magnificent program, with Lara comfortable and at times emotional, having Lou and her parents both on hand. The filming was first rate, Lara looked sensational, and the sound was excellent. The version of ‘Broken Vow’ was particularly full of feeling, as well as was ‘Je suis malade’. The new songs sounded great. Offhand, at face value, it would seem to be one of Lara’s best recorded shows, of a similar quality to ‘From Lara with Love’ and the ‘Molsen Center concert’, both filmed for TV audiences.
An important difference, however, is that since we now have high quality versions available, we can tell that some 7 of the new songs were lip-synched: "Toccami", "Llora", "Mr President", "Mama", "Lou", "Desperate Housewives" and ‘the Russian song’. Lara has gotten very good at it – it’s hard to know if much of the live audience, much less the TV audience was aware of it. She certainly seems to be singing the words that we’re hearing, and there’s not much visual difference between what one sees for the ‘old songs’ which she is certainly singing, and these new ones. At the same time, if one listens to the songs as presented on the TV show in comparison to the ones on the album, these 7 are VERY similar, so much so that it defies belief. Lara always improvises, hence this seems unreal.
Fans suggested that the substitution was necessitated by the acoustics in the room, or that Lara was sick. Several of those songs are very difficult to sing. These all may have played a part. But the primary reason is perhaps what Lara has explained previously. When ‘Neuf’ came out, Lara lip-synched ‘La Lettre’ on her first TV shows. In the face of criticism from French fans, Lara said that she wanted the first televised impression of the song to be the best it could be. This show was obviously the first televised appearance of the songs for the Russian public, so would fit Lara’s description. And it certainly did make for a great program.
The televised concert is supposed to come out as a DVD next year, perhaps with some more aspects (bonus, etc.). If there really are 7 songs that were lip-synched, one wonders how Lara feels about that on a commercial DVD release (it is widely thought that ‘Parce que tu pars’ was a lip-synch version on the ‘Lara Fabian Live’ DVD, but that was just one song). Fans on the official forum said they would have felt cheated to go to a concert and hear the recorded version of that many songs. If she performs them in France, perhaps we’ll find out if she can really sing the cuts from the Mlle. Zhivago album in a live setting.
---------------------------
And, in a somewhat more general vein, here's a discussion from the News Update of 6/14/11:
----------------------------------
‘Thythyl’ on the official site forum reviewed which songs were done lip-synched; here are his comments (in translation), with the televised Moscow concert in mind:
…there are many examples of lip-synching at this concert, perhaps only slightly less than in previous concerts that were not filmed (in Ukraine, for example ).
Songs like ‘Je t’aime’, ‘Broken Vow’, I Guess I Loved You’ and ‘Adagio’ are live and have always been (normal, they are most familiar to the public and there are not the same arrangements as on studio versions, so difficult to cheat).
Then there are songs like ‘Russian Fairy Tale’, ‘Mlle. Hyde’, ‘Ever-Ever Land’ and ‘Vocalize’ which are live in the concert filmed in Moscow, but were not at the very first concerts of the tour.
And unfortunately: ‘Toccami’, ‘Llora’, ‘Desperate Housewives’, ‘Lou’, ‘Mr. President’, ‘Mama’ and the ‘Russian song’ are lip-synched and always have been ... I can certify to you because I have very good memories of the studio versions which are exactly the same, not even minimal variations. This is simply impossible to replicate naturally given the flights that these songs have.
Only exceptions: ‘Demaine n’existe pas’ and ‘Tomorrow is a Lie’ have always been live during the concerts, it's a good thing,
------------------------------------------
And one more, this time with comments from Krutoi himself, from the News Update of 8/2/11: “The lip-synching should not have been a surprise – it has occurred each time she [Lara] has appeared on this show [the ‘New Wave’ show organized each summer by Krutoi in Russia] over the past few years. Apparently, outside of the young singers, most of the show was “pre-recorded”. Igor Krutoi indicated that this was the norm, not because of technology, necessarily, but due to the limitations of the performers and the need to put on the best possible TV show. He said he hoped that eventually it wouldn’t have to be the case.“
To the extent this was true, people also wondered how the children, who sang with Lara during “Mr. President”, or the orchestral musicians, playing so studiously throughout, felt about that. We’ll probably never know, one way or another…This is no way diminishes the purity and beauty of Lara’s voice on these songs because, whatever is true, she did have to sing them sometime, just not necessarily live.
The issue has not arisen for Lara to any degree since she moved back to Canada; one reason is she generally sings her greatest hits, which she could probably sing in her sleep, and also has no need to worry about making first impressions with them.
We haven’t checked in on Lara’s worldwide iTunes sales in quite a while, though much has remained the same: her Lara Fabian self-titled album English album still ranks in parts of eastern Europe (#42 in Moldova) and Asia (#30 in Uzbekistan); Je t’aime still gets on the singles board (#75 in Russia), but there’s one surprise – the Lockdown Sessions is #18 in Estonia - who would have thought that?
Interesting picture(s)/video(s) of the week: Another nice (and true ) tee shirt about Lara, from ‘Les anges de Lara Fabian’ FB site, at

And the Lara Fabian The Netherlands FB site provides links to Lara’s appearances in Clin d'Oeil Magazine, one from 2018 (concerned with fashion) and one from 2021 (about love); they can be found at
www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=634982271968500&set=pcb.634984175301643
It includes both text/interviews and nice pictures.
The minimal interaction with the public that Lara displayed this past week may well continue for the foreseeable future. At the moment, it’s fair to say that outside of a few notable sites, posts about Lara on her fan sites has understandably fallen off, and that too may well continue. What still has plenty of activity are youtube videos of Lara’s past performances, including the ever-present reaction videos, and amateurs singing her songs. Lara has proven she is capable of quickly taking over the conversation in unexpected ways, so all this could suddenly change. Stay safe everybody,
David
