While in Sicily, Lara did promote her book, as speculated last week, but it wasn’t for the Italian audience but for TFI in France. The video they broadcast, entitled “Four at the Table: a menu bursting with sunshine and good humor” at (https://www.tf1.fr/tf1/jt-we/videos/quatre-a-table-un-menu-gorge-de-soleil-et-de-bonne-humeur-37611255.html) showed Lara buying various ingredients in Catania, Sicily, and then making a meal for the TFI team and Gabriel from a recipe in her book, transmitted to her by her mother and grandmother.
It is available on youtube with English subtitles (thanks to Lara The Ring Fabian), at
www.youtube.com/watch?v=XfLiA-44_VI
The meal Lara made consisted of:
Blood orange salad, with fennel, spring onions, black olives
Pasta with anchovies and purple cauliflower
Ricotta strawberries from Etna, chocolate chips
Total cost: 25.50 Euros for a meal for four. The four seemed to enjoy it!
Outside of that, there doesn’t seem to be any obvious professional reason for her being in Sicily at this time, though obviously we don’t know the whole story.
In other, ‘youtube’ developments, a music video of Lara singing “Hold on to my Heart” was posted, at
www.youtube.com/@xnt1527
This unreleased song, which was initially put on youtube over a year ago, at
www.youtube.com/watch?v=l7KTBmDdY9g
was apparently made for the album “A Wonderful Life”, but never included. It makes one wonder how many other songs Lara recorded that remain ‘on the shelf’ (we know of several others, which have been put on youtube of several others) – maybe a 'previously unreleased’ album, in somewhat (though not exactly) the same spirit as Bob Dylan’s ‘Basement Tapes’ could be put together, since it doesn’t seem as if Lara is going to be releasing another new album any time soon. [More on this as refers to her concerts in the 'interesting videos/photos section.]
And in other youtube posts, the Star Academie put on the video of Lara singing Je t’aime with Lea, at
www.youtube.com/watch?v=XwVMduczxHo
part of their “retrieving the best moments of the season”. It gives people a chance to see, once again, how generous Lara was with Lea, giving her a chance to shine.
As noted in the comments to last week’s News Update, youtube removed the Lara Fabian Espana channel, after some 8+ months of allowing it. Perhaps there was something in particular they felt ‘crossed the line’, or maybe it was the accumulation of the tremendous amount of videos they had the energy to post (some of which it was surprising had been allowed). In addition to trying to reapply (others have done so), and repeating my comment made to that news, if they still have access to all of the videos, they could post them on their own private URL, ask people to register to see them (for no cost), and continue their legacy that way – as also noted, this has been done by several other sites in the past, including the Lara Fabian Web site. It would be a shame to have all that work go to waste, especially since it was a chance to see a lot of Lara’s work – live videos, interviews, etc. – all in one place. Best of luck to them…
Concerning Lara’s book: on amazon.fr, they still list it as #1 in sales for “Beautiful music books”. With 93 evaluations, it gets a rating of 4.5 out of 5. On amazon.com, it rates 4.6 with 90 reviews (many of them the same reviews as for amazon.fr).
Interesting photo(s)/video(s) of the week:
The Lara Fabian America site provided a link to Lara singing ‘Dieu Aide Les Exclus (God Help the Outcasts) from ‘The Hunchback of Notre Dame’ movie, on youtube at
www.youtube.com/watch?v=8_qchgFZWD4
This ranks as another wonderful song that Lara has recorded that she never sang in concert. Last week it was noted she mused about having a concert of her songs that weren’t hits – not that that would ever happen, but if it did, she might also consider including songs that weren’t hers but were hits in movies, including songs like this one, as well as: ‘For Always’ (her song with Josh Groban) from the AI soundtrack; “So in Love” (with Mario Frangoulis) from De-lovely; “The Dream Within” from Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within; and “Remember Me” from the movie Cello. Not that these are necessarily hard to find, but on youtube they are at:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=oa8tB4wyzQ4
www.youtube.com/watch?v=tKZtnURkNOk
www.youtube.com/watch?v=0o4bvhKOl6Y
www.youtube.com/watch?v=MiTFBE-HM14
Each of these could easily become a fan favorite, if they are not already, and so provide Lara an enthusiastic response.
And in somewhat the same spirit, the Lara Fabian est ton autre site linked to a video posted a year ago by Music Evolution of Lara singing the iconic song Unchained Melody, at
www.youtube.com/watch?v=AsrMbT_gH94
Fans might be surprised to hear her sing this at a concert, but wouldn’t be disappointed!
And for even more obscure Lara songs she could include, the Lara Fabian The Netherlands FB site linked to pictures, lyrics, and youtube links of three bonus tracks - Sin ti, Ivy, and Before We Say Goodbye - from Lara’s 1999/2000 self-titled CD, at
www.facebook.com/photo?fbid=622790836520977&set=pcb.622790906520970
The links for the lyrics of the three songs they posted are, respectively, at

The youtube links for the videos (slightly different from those they posted, but leading to the same videos, also from Music Evolution) are at
www.youtube.com/watch?v=buqTsLBVgR8 (from the extended European version of that album)
www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYab6hIueq0 (the ‘B’ side of the Adagio single)
www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5kUbrXfJlI (sold as the ‘B’ side of the Japanese single of “The Dream Within”)
A complete list of ‘bonus tracks’ from that album can be found on Wikipedia at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lara_Fabian_(1999_album) [bonus tracks being all those not on the U.S. release]. Also noted on that site, an interesting ‘factoid’: “Kazakh singer, Dimash Kudaibergen sang "Adagio" in his "wild card" entry performance in 2017 on the Chinese talent competition, I Am Singer, which catapulted him to world-wide notice, also performing it on the US show The World's Best (controversially withdrawing due to, against his contractual stipulations, being placed to compete against much younger performers, which is much against his Kazakh cultural tradition of always supporting and encouraging youth).”
It also should be noted that the ‘Music Evolution’ youtube site, at www.youtube.com/@musicevolution9919/videos, posts a large number of interesting videos and audios of Lara (and other singers who they take a fancy to), and have been doing this for about a year. Hopefully they won’t run into the same issues the Lara Fabian Espana youtube channel encountered…
Finally, in the interesting photo department, from the Lara Fabian - L'étoile des anges FB site,
www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=658651096264935&set=a.257921906337858
News concerning Lara’s public activities will likely be sporadic for the foreseeable future, although surprises are always possible, as we well know. The fact is that she has not put anything on her Facebook or permanent Instagram sites this month, preferring to place the few items that have arisen on her Instagram stories site, hence just for 24 hours (like the notice of her TF1 interview above). The rationale behind that must be a curious one. Stay safe, everybody,
David
