Lara answered the question as to whether she would communicate with her fans during her ‘time away’ this summer – at least at the beginning, before going on her trip with her father and daughter. She left the following alluring picture on her Instagram site,
with the caption, “After sunbathing under the sky of my beautiful Sicily, I take advantage of a moment of relaxation to moisturize and take care of my skin with the Anti-Stress mask with clays and floral waters from @cellcosmet_cellmen_official
Protect and moisturize, a little summer skincare routine 💕
Take care of yourself ... Love 💋”

Referring to an interview covered in part last week, on the show “L’autre midi a la table d’a cote”, Lara The Ring Fabian put on youtube the complete version of Lara’s interaction with Marie Laberge, and, as usual, added English subtitles (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vjuvUXQ3MVk). Here are the interesting points that aren’t already popular knowledge (from, say, Lara’s book, among other sources):
**Both Marie and Lara were in one sense a ‘middle child’ – Marie had three older and three younger siblings, Lara’s mother lost three children before her and three children after her.
**Lara’s parents told her they had to get together because “she had to exist”.
**Lara said that it was her choice not to marry Gerard Pullicino (Lou’s father) – that she had always said she’d only get married once. She knew it was not a ‘yes’ for life with him for the woman that she was – she couldn’t be his wife – but it was a yes for life with him as a father.
**Lara put on the brakes with Gabriel because she was worried about the age difference, but he didn’t understand it, and gets angry when it’s brought up.
**She gave in when she realized he could love her as much as she wanted to be loved, and so she stopped (in this respect) over analyzing it.
**Lara’s mother lived with her and Lou for the first three years of Lou’s life, since Lara was so often away. Also Gerard’s mother and grandmother helped out. So Lara was only about 1/3 of the ‘mother’ of Lou during this time, and Lou got attached to other people as well.
**When Lara’s mother got sick (Lewy’s Body dementia), Lou suffered from ‘losing her’, and Lara realized she had to become a full-time mother – not only to Lou but to her own mother.
**While Lara had written a song “L’oubli”, Marie had written a book “Oublier”, both about dementia.
**Lara’s father had to lose a part of himself – the part that loved and shared life with his wife – in order to accept and be useful to her. He became like a little boy, fragile, hurt and that shook Lara.
**Whereas on her part, Lara continued to love and accept her mother, and her mother recognized her until the end.
**Both agreed that men are less fit to deal with situations like this. Women are more courageous they think (even though the word in French is masculine gender).
**While they both despised critics, there were subtle differences. Marie was attacked by critics because she was ‘popular’, while Lara’s critics were ultimately forced to admit that she was popular. Also Lara thought critics are really like little children that want to be loved, while Marie thought they just wanted their egos to be stroked.
Thanks again to all the work that Lara The Ring Fabian does!!!
About this time we normally review Lara’s FB followers compared with other contemporary (to Lara) French female singers. Here’s the list (with the year of their birth indicated):
2017 2018 2019 2021 2022
Shy’m (1985) 1,681,028 1,575,730 1,535,837 1,586,787 1.58M
Jenifer (1982) 1,231,486 1,191,074 1,182,745 1,314,849 1.32M
Zaz (1980) 1,218,804 1,328,429 1,374,951 1,393,351 1.4M
Lara (1970) 1,167,860 1,224,372 1,230,875 1,533,697 1.52M
Alizee (1984) 1,037,273 1,060,289 1,063,379 1,228,973 1.24M
Mylene Farmer (1961) 838,074 823,073 814,684 796,000 ---------
Amel Bent (1985) 1,577,089 1,543,987 1,980,351 2.09M
Isabelle Boulay (1972) 220,789 199,038 199,345
The first thing to notice is that there’s little change over the previous year, which many sites (including this one) have noticed – that in itself says something about Facebook. Amel Bent has increased somewhat, and Lara has actually decreased a little; this is likely the last time we will make this comparison.
Another comparison we can make concerns Lara’s ‘most popular title’ videos on Youtube as determined by the number of views. The only restrictions are Lara has to be the featured singer and appear in the video– so it includes her music videos, but not just Lara’s songs, used, for example, in television programs. Most of you can mention the leaders without a second thought, but there are some surprises. Also indicated in the list are those she never sings publicly, indicated by an *. Taking all the videos with views above five million, and adding like titles together we get:
Je t’aime: 223M
Je suis malade: 125M
Adagio: 125M
Quedate: 36M*
I Will Love Again: 29M
La Solitudine (with Laura Puassini): 28M*
Un Cuore Malato (with Gigi d’Alessio): 22M*
Caruso: 22M
Requiem Pour Un Fou (with Johnny Halliday) (21M)*
J’y crois encore (12M)
Meu Grande Amour (12M)*
You’re Not From Here (10M)*
Love Like A Dream (9M)*
Ti Amo Cosi (with Dimash) 9M*
Ma vie dans la tienne 8.7M*
Par amour 8.7M
Immortelle 7.1M
Love By Grace 6.9M*
Tu es mon autre (with Maurane) 6.9M
Tout 5.8M*
Choose What You Love Most 5.4M*
Adding these all together we get ~732M – out of which Lara never sings 173M, or close to one-fourth of her most popular videos. Granted a number of them are duets – though that doesn’t stop others from singing them – and with respect to Quedate, Lara has long ago completely given up singing most Spanish songs (aside from an occasional title done with Igor Kruoti). Her most popular recent songs (as judged from Youtube) also get little attention in her set list, as do those in more esoteric (for her) languages (Russian, Portuguese).
We can do the same thing with the other singers on the ‘Facebook followers’ list, counting the total above 5 million, with the same restrictions. Here’s what it looks like, putting Lara in the same place she had in the FB list above:
Shy’m: 525M
Jenifer: 36M
Zaz: 795M
Lara: 732M
Alizee: 765M
Mylene Farmer:201M
Amel Bent: 503M
Isabelle Boulay: 33M
For what it’s worth, Lara came in 3rd in both lists, although she’s behind Amel Bent and Shy’m for Facebook followers, and behind Zaz and Alizee for youtube views. One would conclude from these diverse assessments that Lara is approximately as popular as her contemporary French singers. However, as an additional point of view, the many “reaction” videos involving Lara attest to the impact she is having around the world (in non-French speaking countries, especially). See more about them just below.

While Je t’aime ran away with the number of youtube views, Je suis malade does the same with reaction videos. The difference is that in the reaction videos, the host and audience are reacting strongly to the emotion of Je suis malade (and then, in second place, to that of Adagio) – and those songs just can’t be sung (at least not by Lara) without being exceptionally emotional, in addition to their great vocal range. With Je t’aime, Lara sometimes sings it that way, and sometimes hasn’t over the years. Instead Lara’s long-time fans react to the song as being representative of Lara, not just her singing.
In the coming week, we’ll see if Lara continues her fan interaction, however much it ends up being, when her ‘road trip’ truly begins. Stay safe everybody,
David

Stay safe everybody,
David
