Lara is now away on vacation, and indeed, there’s a photo of her at Baimuri Beach in Sicily, available at
(thanks to the Lara Fabian Coeur de lumière FB site for the link). Interestingly, Lara did not put this on her own Instagram site, which leaves open the question of whether she will be providing visual updates of her vacation…
In a program taped before she left, she appeared on “L'autre midi à la table d'à côté” on Ici Radio Canada with Marie Laberge this past Sunday. A video of one of the segments, entitled "Methods of Work and Supersition" is available at
www.facebook.com/iciradiocanadatele/videos/450954419791453
The two (although mostly Marie) discussed their methods of writing/working, and the idiosyncratic/superstitious modes that one can develop – such as what sort of pen you need, whether anybody else can be in the house, how many hours you have to put in and when you’re ‘allowed’ to stop, what you’re allowed to do, being blocked, etc. The comment was made that one has to work against one’s own fears.
We all know of Lara’s ‘superstition’ about pressing thumbs before a concert, as a way of providing ‘electricity’ for the coming performance. She said she “is fifth generation, and superstition is in her genes”. These may be ‘superstitions’, but if they provide confidence, in that sense they ‘work’, despite how strange they may appear.
The entirety of the show appears at (https://ici.radio-canada.ca/tele/l-autre-midi-a-la-table-d-a-cote/site/episodes/638484/marie-laberge-textes-lara-fabian-restaurant?isautoplay=true&fbclid=IwAR37DV60aSMuVicOfiFVvJc1lFD5R2pEKIy2zM2o7j0op1tS9rtWuD0zRH8); as usual, it is not available for viewing outside Canada (without an appropriate VPN). According to the description, the other two segments are
(1) Different childhoods for Lara Fabian and Marie Laberge
Lara tells the great love story of her parents and the fact that she had been the long-awaited and cherished child of this union. Marie, she comes from a large family and escaped to her neighbor to get love and attention.
(2) The men in the lives of Lara Fabian and Marie Laberge
Lara recounts her meeting with her husband and her relationship to love. Marie discusses her sometimes difficult relationships with men because of her desire for solitude and her fame. The two women discuss whether they need (or don't) feelings to have a relationship with a man.
We are pretty familiar with Lara’s story in these two areas…For those who don’t know, Marie Laberge is “a Quebec actor, educator and writer”, who has written novels and plays. A complete biography of her can be found at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marie_Laberge.
Several more articles have appeared concerning Lara becoming director of the Star Academie in France
(https://www.telepro.be/tv/lara-fabian-directrice-de-la-star-academy-tf1.html?fbclid=IwAR3QOsr67HobKH4j8IwS2w3EhROhyZDge8xcR7cgdZwUiTLbdBShRZAaHxw). Here’s the translation (thanks to the Lara Fabian est ton autre FB site for the ilnks):

Lara Fabian, director of the "Star Academy" (TF1)?
After Canada, the Belgian singer could lead the French version of the reality show.
According to information from “Touche pas à mon poste!” (C8), after the refusal of Sylvie Tellierto take the direction of the new "Star Academy" on TF1, which will return at the start of the school year, the production would be in contact with Lara Fabian .
A choice that is not trivial since the Brussels singer directed the “Star Académie” in Quebec, on TVA, in the vintages of 2021 and 2022, succeeding René Angélil . Our compatriot therefore knows the workings of the program well.
Small clarification that is important: the Canadian version and the French version are produced by the same group, namely Banijay. This could facilitate the negotiation and the transfer of the director to the Old Continent...
------------------------------------------------
While obviously one should never say never, as we discussed in the past there are significant problems with this scenario. As noted in the News Update of 5-7, the new program is to be launched at the beginning of October, last 8 to 10 weeks, and be finished in time for World Cup Football at the end of November. During this time, from Sept. 29 to October24, Lara has 18 concerts scheduled. No matter how appealing being the director of the show in France would be, for publicity for her and her concert tour, there’s no apparent way it would work as long as they were keeping to that schedule. And the article still indicates it would be for ‘the start of the school year’, suggesting no alteration of the schedule is envisioned. Unless something drastic changes, it would seem unlikely that Lara will be the Star Academie ‘director on the Old Continent…’.
Despite this… an article in (https://www.starmag.com/medias/star-academy-lara-fabian-selectionnee-pour-devenir-la-directrice-du-chateau-517583.html?fbclid=IwAR1EJ2378rKygcM6jxc-71kPVCppR7hdRlGpA-AeX1Tzaxi0uKCaFy60mgc) has this title “Star Academy: Lara Fabian selected to become the director of the castle”. [Of course, ‘selected’ doesn’t mean ‘accepted’]. It then goes on to repeat the information from the previous ones, adding (speculatively) that “Negotiations are tight. For a position like that, we are talking about a salary between 300,000 and 500,000 euros, it necessarily takes time.” This follows the acknowledgement that “nothing would have been signed yet”. Again, “never say never”, but, unless something drastically changes in one or the other’s schedules – or they allow Lara to miss half the program – another relevant cliché is “don’t believe everything you read”.
Interesting photo(s)/video(s) of the week: some additional videos related to the concerts last week: Đan-Vi provided 10 videos from Lara’s concerts, with good quality at
www.youtube.com/c/polysemyforbreakfast/videos
LARA FABIAN FAN ESPAÑA provided seven high quality videos from the concerts, as well as many older ones, at
www.youtube.com/channel/UCsEnKtdg_or0hWbA4Dt_rJw/videos
An example, Lara singing 'Je t'aime', can be found at
www.youtube.com/watch?v=-QLDxDhMONk&ab_channel=LARAFABIANFANESPA%C3%91A
In addition, the same source also provided “a recording [from the Quebec City concert] made by Gina Laroche and posted on her facebook page who gave me permission to edit, produce and submit the images to Youtube.” It’s at
www.youtube.com/watch?v=cPzSxYL1ki0&ab_channel=LARAFABIANFANESPA%C3%91A
Lara the Ring Fabian put together a medley of what she considered Lara’s best vocal performances of her week of Quebec concerts, available at
www.youtube.com/watch?v=OEFUHNt9EJQ&ab_channel=LaraTheRingFabian
This is a wonderful summary of how well Lara sang in these concerts…from all standpoints, emotional intensity, vocal agility, high notes reached, she sounded (as is noted) as good as she did in the late 1990s. Amazing!
In addition, Lara the Ring Fabian also provided a medley showing how Lara has sung Caruso through the years, at
www.youtube.com/watch?v=t8_e1WdiItE&ab_channel=LaraTheRingFabian
Very cleverly done, the whole sung is presented via segments taken from various years between 1997 and 2022. It puts 2022’s wonderful versions in perspective, showing how they fit right in, with no loss of vocal range or power.
And for a great many wonderful photos of Lara at these concerts, see the Lara Fabian America collection at
www.facebook.com/larafabianamerica/photos/pcb.1394894981008417/1394892491008666/
She looked as great as she sang .
We’re now fully into summer mode, so unless there is evidence (from Lara) to the contrary, we can lower our expectations as to what will be available. Stay safe everybody.
