Tonight marks the beginning of Lara’s concerts in Quebec, the first three taking place at the Place des Arts in Montreal. Lara was in rehearsals for it during the week, and the Lara Fabian Coeur de Lumiere FB site posted some pictures (‘sans Lara’ outside of the new poster) of those ongoing rehearsals (courtesy of Manu Pitois), at
www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=10224566375440327&set=pcb.10224566411161220
As has been known for some time, all the Montreal concerts (June14-16) are sold out [practically speaking – at the time of this writing the June 15th concert has one seat available ]. The Three Rivers concert on June 18th is about 60% full, as is (very approximately) the concert in Quebec City. Perhaps not surprisingly, Lara’s popularity, driven by her TV appearances, seems to be primarily located in the most urban center of Quebec. Note that the three Montreal concerts at the Place des Arts total about 9000 seats, so filling that location for three nights is not an accomplishment to be sneezed at .
Lara the Ring Fabian indicated she will upload every performance from the show on the 14th – which would be greatly appreciated!!!!
Otherwise, the primary news released this past week is that Lara will have a small part in an upcoming movie. Actually, she first referred to it in an interview a few months ago, but now the details were made available, in the movie trailer at
www.youtube.com/watch?v=igu-k3VaZUs
The movie is called ‘Arlette’, and the synopsis is:
------------------------
IN THEATERS AUGUST 5.
Directed by Mariloup Wolfe and written by Marie Vien.
With Maripier Morin, Gilbert Sicotte, David La Haye, Paul Ahmarani, Benoît Brière and many others!
Approached by the Premier of Quebec to rejuvenate the image of his government, Arlette Saint-Amour, director of a fashion magazine, becomes Minister of Culture overnight. She succeeded in creating a real buzz around Culture with her look and her audacity. Bold, she does not hesitate to confront the most powerful of them all: the Minister of Finance. Their dossiers are battles to be fought, but their confrontation is a real war to be finished because, at the end of the day, this film revolves around a great theme: the power of the image. Arlette, a comedy of appearances that takes us behind the scenes of the National Assembly, where the zany rubs shoulders with the serious, where comedy embraces drama.
A Caramel Films production.

Lara appears at 1:49 of the video. Lara the Ring Fabian put Lara’s brief appearance scenes on youtube, at

A trailer for Arlette
On August 5, Arlette will be the fourth major Quebec production to hit theaters this summer, after Arsenault & Fils (June 17), Lignes de Fide (July 6) and Confessions (July 20).
Directed by Mariloup Wolfe, this dramatic comedy, whose screenplay is written by Marie Vien ( La passion d'Augustine , 14 jours 12 nuits ), borrows all the looks of a political satire. It tells the story of a young woman from the fashion world who, overnight, is appointed Minister of Culture by a Prime Minister wishing to rejuvenate the image of his government.
Around Maripier Morin, who plays Arlette Saint-Amour, revolves an imposing cast including Gilbert Sicotte, David La Haye, Paul Ahmarani, Benoît Brière, Claudia Ferri, Bruno Marcil, as well as Anne Casabonne (reality will it join fiction?), Lara Fabian and Micheline Lanctôt.
“With screenwriter Marie Vien, we had fun drawing a parallel between a play and the political world, where everyone plays a role. There are also many references to the monarchical world. It gave me a lot of leeway cinematically.” - Mariloup Wolfe
Through the character of Arlette there is also a look at the difficulties faced by women in politics.
“It is very present in the story. And very current too”, specifies the one who thus proposes a third feature film as a filmmaker.
An exciting project
“I was contacted quite late in the process, because another director was associated with this project for a while. I was enthusiastic after a meeting of about two hours with Marie [Vien]. She told me her vision with great passion. That's when I realized that this story wasn't just about politics and that I was going to have a lot of room in it creatively. Arlette, it's a fable, in fact.”
This less realistic aspect allowed Mariloup Wolfe to draw inspiration from productions like The Favorite and The Crown on a visual level, especially since the production was able to obtain privileged access to shoot at the Parliament Building, where the National Assembly, as well as to mythical places in the area (the Château Frontenac, in particular).
“When I shoot a film, I need to dream, to enter a universe, whether that of skydiving like in Les pieds dans le vide, or a particular universe like in Jouliks. Arlette really has its own texture, its own world,” assures the director.
Produced by André Rouleau and Valérie d'Auteuil, of Caramel Films, and distributed by Les Films Opale, Arlette will be released on August 5th.
--------------------------
One can see why this appeals to Lara, as anything that helps emphasize the importance of ‘Culture’ would probably find favor with her. Lara’s part is not likely to be big - IMDb (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt14157348/) lists 17 cast members (https://m.imdb.com/title/tt14157348/fullcredits/cast) and Lara is not one of them (although she is noted in the article).
The release date indicated is for Canadian theaters. It’s not clear if they have a distribution company for other countries (yet).
We have every reason to believe that Lara would be a good film actor, although her experience in that milieu is limited. She had a brief role in DeLovely – her most notable contribution to that film was on the soundtrack for the picture. Her most extensive acting, one which gives us great confidence, occurred in Alan Badov’s film ‘Mademoiselle Zhivago’, although as we know all too well, Lara’s disagreements with him prevented that from seeing the light of day, except for a youtube presentation. Had that not occurred, Lara might well have had more film appearances by now. Whether she would have wanted it is another story; even for DeLovely, she complained about the amount of time she was just sitting around doing nothing, waiting for scenes to be filmed.
Interesting photo(s)/video(s) of the week:
Lara left the following picture on her Instagram site, at
with the caption, “Between two worlds, ....from a space where there is only "the here and now"...a good weekend to all 🙌🏻♥️”
The ‘two worlds’ she refers to could be the ‘end of the Star Academie’ experience and the beginning of her concert tour…or it could be the ‘end of her Quebec experience for the time being’ and the beginning of her European experience with her father and daughter. Either way, living in the ‘here and now’ is the ‘antidote’.
Then, a world away in time, ‘then and there’ so to speak, two retouched videos of Lara singing ‘Dire’ (from her first album, circa the early ‘90s), at
www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Sf_8hIzMEg
www.youtube.com/watch?v=QithmyyiNpI
It might have been very hard for that version of Lara to envision what she would be like 30 years later…
And from Spain, lara_fabian_fan_esp
with the wonderful text, “Who said that the beauty of the soul was invisible?
Beautiful physically and so beautiful inside that it transcends invisibility and becomes apparent!
How beautiful you are, Lara! Love you!”
By next week we will have knowledge of Lara’s updated setlist for the Best of World Tour (at least the Quebec version), and perhaps videos of some of her performances – for in one week time, those shows will be over. Keep safe everybody,
David
