The next to last Star Academie show took place on Sunday, with Lara’s ‘costume’ providing her lead-in for it, available for viewing at

This outfit is obviously a bit more conservative than some of the previous ones, and comes with her caption, “12th Variety, only one more before the end of this magnificent season of Star Académie TVA #nationstarac”
As usual, the dress got more positive responses than Lara (and the other judges) decisions on the show, e.g. (https://www.noovomoi.ca/en-vedette/lara-fabian-eblouissante-magnifique-robe-kaki.html):

Lara Fabian makes a splash in a gorgeous khaki dress
Lara Fabian is our star of the day!
The famous diva shone on the Star Académie variety set on Sunday evening!
As every week, the star was elegant and fashionable. She looked dazzling in a stunning khaki dress chosen by stylist Patrick Vimbor. She was able to count on hairdresser Marie-Josée Lepage and makeup artist Marco Marsolais for her superb look.
Here are the sublime portraits of Lara Fabian captured behind the scenes by Bertrand Exertier [see article]:
She is bright! What class, right?
The Star Académie adventure is coming to an end. The two finalists who will compete for the grand prize next week are Éloi and Krystel!
We wish them the best of luck!

As for the show, here’s the review from the Journal de Quebec [note the videos are back] (https://www.journaldequebec.com/2022/04/17/eloi-et-krystel-en-finale):
---------------------------------
Eloi and Krystel in the final
Once again, Eloi Cummings won the audience votes for “Star Academy” on Sunday night, and he is likely to win the final next Sunday.
Krystel Mongeau was protected by the teachers and strangely reached the final without ever having been acclaimed by the public.
The Academicians opened the evening with the song "Star Académie", accompanied by Yannick Nézet-Séguin and twenty members of the Orchester Métropolitain (OM).
Guest artistic director, the maestro designed a symphonic party during which he revisited some of his favorite songs. Krystel and Camélia opened the number with “Encore un soir” by Céline Dion. We also heard heard “Tighthrope”, “Gigi in Paradisco”, “Aimer d’amour”, “Miami”, the versions of Diane Tell and of Ariane Moffatt, as well as "I Feel Love".
Eloi and Olivier took the opportunity to wink at their limited dancing talent, a reproach often heard from teachers.
Semi-finalists
Eloi Cummings is the first semi-finalist to take to the stage to perform "L’opéra du mendiant" by Nicola Ciccone. Accompanied by his guitar, he was super convincing. "Tonight, I really saw a man on stage, present, strong and solid," analyzed Guylaine Tremblay.
With "Je n’t’aime plus", Krystel Mongeau literally gave all her heart. "We love you more and more," Marc Dupré told her. Gregory Charles then repeated to her how much the teachers have been dazzled by her talent since the beginning of this adventure. "Technique and voice, extraordinary," he added. "But there was, in addition, an emotional charge out of the ordinary."
On the advice of the teachers, Olivier Bergeron hoped to pass in the final with "La voix que j’ai", by Offenbach. A performance started in piano-voice before a more rock crescendo. “Olivier is the quintessence of someone who understood what “Star Académie” was, he really found his way,” exclaimed Lara Fabian, visibly impressed by the path taken by the Academician.
Finally, Camélia Zaki gave a masterful interpretation of “Je suis malade”, by Serge Lama. Marc Dupré was proud to remind her that she had been part of his team at "La Voix Junior", a few years ago. “I am very moved”, Guylaine Tremblay also told her. It's not enough to sing with your vocal cords, you also have to sing with your body and your heart. That's what an interpreter is."
The four semi-finalists then performed "Aimons-nous", by Yvon Deschamps, to surprise Guylaine Tremblay, who is currently on tour with a show composed of songs by Quebecers' favorite comedian.
Cajun version
Straight from his native Louisiana, Zachary Richard shared his great successes with the Academicians. The opening of the four in harmony on “Travailler, c’est trop dur” was magnificent. He then revisited “Cap enragé” with Krystel, “Pleine lune en décembre” with Olivier, “Au bord du Lac Bijou” with Camélia, before finishing with “La ballade de Jean Batailleur” with Eloi.
Marriage proposal
“Star Académie” was the scene of a particular marriage proposal. Alain had lost sight of Danièle, the young woman he had noticed in high school. Years later, after being married on their own, they found each other and are now enjoying perfect happiness. The surprise was total for the future bride, who obviously accepted the request.
After winning "La Voix" in 2020, Josiane Comeau is back on the front of the stage with a first original extract from an upcoming album, "Last in Line", of which she is co-author.
The fifteen Academicians will meet for a graduation party, in the middle of the week, before the grand finale, next Sunday.
A SYMPHONIC TOUCH
Last year, “Star Académie” was a unique experience for Yannick Nézet-Séguin. “It allowed us to create even more links with the world of popular music", he said in an interview. "Coming back here was like being reunited with my family. Being in contact with the talents of this year, it warmed my heart." The conductor went to visit the Academicians in Waterloo during the week and came away amazed. "They have very diverse talents, each one has their own personality despite their youth, it's amazing to see that." Through his number, he chose to show that a symphony orchestra can adapt to all styles of music. "People may not know that what they hear is violin, cello, trumpet... I would also love to do a complete show with this kind of songs, it's one of my dreams." In the meantime, Yannick Nézet-Séguin will be back in concert with OM next May.
Winner of “The Voice”
Josiane Comeau won the last edition of “La Voix”, in 2020. It took two years before she released her first original song. “After winning, there was the pandemic”, she explained. “I also wanted to take my time to release something that looks like me. I didn't necessarily know myself as an artist. We made the journey to discover my essence, we tried a lot of styles, from country to pop.” The young woman, originally from New Brunswick, is really proud to present “Last in line”, a song she co-wrote. “When I started writing, it came out on its own in both languages. It makes a nod to my language, the Chiac, it was really natural.”
------------------------------------------
You may remember that on last year's Star Academie, after Lara performed some of her songs with Yannik and the OM, she said she wanted to include them in her concerts in Quebec, and maybe do an album with them. Wonder what has happened with that...
As to the opening comment about the eventual winner, there was this (https://showbizz.net/tele/le-public-fait-un-inexorable-constat-apres-cette-demi-finale):
----------------------------
The public makes an inexorable observation after this semi-final of Star Académie
Elementary my dear Watson...
As the semi-final was won by Éloi and Krystel, Star Académie fans are adamant: Éloi will win Star Académie 2022.
We cannot say that they are wrong to assert such a thing. Although Krystel's talent is undeniable and she impresses every time she steps on stage, the public's love for Éloi is stronger than anything.
The 16-year-old has won over viewers and there will be nothing that can break this extremely strong bond between him and his fans.
Last year, William was taken to the final by the public and Lunou by the teachers. A scenario identical to the 2021 edition is taking shape this year.
On social networks, it has often been repeated that Star Académie was not a singing contest, but a popularity contest. This sentence has been repeated again this evening.
Also, the rumor that Krystel is the "darling" of the teaching staff comes up again, just like the one that Éloi wins because he comes from the Magdalen Islands...
See more fan comments following the selection of the semi-finalists below…
[Some public comments]:
** I would be very surprised to see Eloi lose next week. The public has been with him since the very beginning while Krystel never received the public vote.
** Popularity contest or singing contest? In the end, it is the public that makes the artist live...
** Krystel as usual it was predictable since she is the favorite of the teachers since the beginning. No matter what Camélia and Olivier would have done, she would have been taken... it's frustrating!
** The result was written in the sky! The public is so predictable.
** AND WITHOUT ANY SURPRISE KRISTEL in final is losing, too bad for Camelia she deserved the final with Kristel
**Éloi is as talented as Krystel. They just don't have the same style.
Lara Fabian compared him to a Beatles in the beginning. Éloi has charisma and depth when he sings. This year there was a lot of controversy with Lara Fabian and Gregory Charles. Lara showing her colors and Gregory idolizing Julien.
**As I have been saying all along: 80% of the votes are cast by young girls. They vote for the "charm" and not for the performance / voice. So we already know the result: young girls voted
**it's not the young girls who vote Eloi, it's the entire Magdalen Islands… but he did a great performance this Sunday, bravo for him.
**I think it is Eloi who will win the young people of his age have always voted for him Krystel has performed well
**For me and many people who were in front of the TV, Camelia's performance was much superior to that of the darling of Lara and Greg, once again the duo has shown their favoritism but this does not take anything away from Krystel but the duo has still missed the boat to satisfy their EGO. How will they react if Eloi who has the favor of the public wins the final? The comment of Guy ... "with her progression of week to week the choice of teachers is ..." Lara... didn't dare put her Krystel in danger. It is unfortunate to put her EGO at the expense of academics.
--------------------------------
Personally, I lost interest in the ‘competition’ aspect of the show when they tossed out the best vocalists. As noted here previously, and repeated in the articles above, Star Academie (like almost all reality TV shows) is a popularity contest; the only thing that differs somewhat from one show to the next (and one country to the next) is the proportion of ‘popularity’ to ‘talent’ in the final choice of winners. Since on this show we spend more time with the candidates in non-singing conditions, there is a greater chance for popularity to dominate. [Also, Quebec seems to be quite provincial, in voting for candidates from specific geographic regions]. The unfortunate thing is that it seems to be the case with the judges as well as the public; at various times a candidate was voted off by the judges because the candidate “didn’t listen” to what the judges told him, or, it seems, wasn’t sufficiently friendly to the other candidates. Nobody ever accused Frank Sinatra or Bob Dylan of being ‘overly friendly’ or listening to other people’s advice, so probably they would have been voted off as well.
Having said all that, for me, the best parts of the show were the variety performances with the outside music personalities, and the group performances orchestrated by the teachers. Those were, IMHO, of generally high quality and had a lot of life and creativity. In those acts, the ability of TVA to put on worthwhile TV really came to the fore.

Lara (pretty much) all prim and proper…
In a drastically different mood, Lara The Ring Fabian provided English subtitles for an interview Lara gave in Quebec in 2007, in which she discussed a health problem
www.youtube.com/watch?v=_2KMZMJoobk
She noted that it was an ‘adenoma’ that affected vital organs like the liver, with some kidney complications as well. The definition of an ‘adenoma’ is “a type of non-cancerous tumor or benign growth that may affect various organs (https://www.news-medical.net/health/What-is-an-Adenoma.aspx#:~:text=Adenoma%20is%20a%20type%20of,mature%20and%20eventually%20die%20off.). It is derived from the word “adeno” meaning 'pertaining to a gland'. It may eventually turn into cancer, so it can be thought of as “pre-cancerous”. “The basic difference between a benign tumor and a cancer is its slower growth and lower capacity to spread. In other words, adenomas are much less aggressive in terms of growth than adenocarcinomas.”
They are not to be ignored, however; “as benign growths they can grow in size to press upon the surrounding vital structures and lead to severe consequences.”
Note that Lara did not mention this particular affliction in her book, which did highlight a number of others.
So the last week of the Star Academie, and Lara’s role as director, is at hand. There is little doubt that Eloi will win, regardless of how he performs (as has been true all along), but one assumes Krystel will do a good job (as she has done all along). After this, Lara will be ‘free’ to resume her life and other activities; we will see how that alters her public footprint, and, ultimately, maybe her country of residence. Stay safe everybody,
David
