The Star Academie show again took top billing this past week, and, once again it included a fetching outfit from Lara for the show, a picture of which she posted at
www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=563564691794495&set=a.259330805551220
or
with her caption, “Heading to the 11th Star Académie TVA Variety! Thank you to my makeup team Patrick Vimbor for the styling, Marco Marsolais for the makeup and Dennis Voltan for the hairstyle.

Some of Lara’s fans were not excited by what they feel is the overly explicit nature of some of her costumes, including this one. It certainly is a change from her normal public attire. Several fans suggested that Lara is getting older, and needs some reassurance that she is still ‘desirable’. Another, not necessarily conflicting suggestion, is that TVA is interested in ratings…Regardless, Lara is quite attractive to look at.
And in somewhat the same vein, the Lara Fabian Lockdown Sessions FB reminded fans that the March-April issue of Châtelaine, featured this picture of Lara
though the actual cover photo of the issue is more reserved:

The article itself was covered in the News Update of 3/22.
As for the show itself, once again, here’s the review from the Journal of Quebec (still without videos) (https://www.journaldequebec.com/2022/04/10/star-academie-eloi-krystel-camelia-et-olivier-en-demi-finale):
-------------------------------------
“Star Académie”: Eloi, Krystel, Camélia and Olivier in the semi-finals
Public choice, Eloi Cummings reaches the semi-final of “Star Académie”, just like Krystel Mongeau, who was protected by the teachers on Sunday. They will find Camélia and Olivier who will also have to defend themselves, during the next Variété, before reaching the final stage.
Following the large number of special requests with songs by Celine Dion, the production decided to create a number featuring her great classics. Brigitte Boisjoli opened the medley with “J’irais où tu iras”, followed by Mélissa Bédard, replacing Marie-Élaine Thibert, arriving on stage for “Ce n’était qu’un rêve”, in duet with Camélia . Véronique Claveau sang "I'm Alive" wonderfully. We then heard “I Drove All Night”, followed by “If it was enough that we love each other”, “Power of Love”. Annie Villeneuve arrived for “All by Myself” in duet with Camélia.
The six Academicians ended the number with “Pour que tu m’aimes encore”, in the company of the four divas who came to share the stage with them.
In Danger
Eloi Cummings had the honor of opening the endangerment sequence with his own composition, “La prée”, a song which recounts a moment of friendship he experienced last summer. Marc Dupré congratulated him for this song which totally resembles him. "I really enjoyed working on this composition," said Gregory Charles. "Eloi is clearly a talented boy. Lately, he's been working hard and creating hard. Cheer!"
Sarah-Maude Desgagné then appeared on stage to perform a song that was really close to her heart, "The Greatest Love Of All", by Whitney Houston. “Sarah-Maude, you have the goods and heart," analyzed Lara Fabian. "That's what I hear every time you start like it's the last time you sing. That's what touches me. I'm really proud of you."
As he wished, Julien Charbonneau stood out on the song “Give You Blue”, by Allen Stone. The three teachers seemed moved by his performance. "While you were singing, I thought to myself that you don't know how hard you're going to have to work out of here to make your incredible talent reach the widest possible audience", analyzed Gregory, before the director of the Academy tells him he was amazing.
To end, Krystel Mongeau brilliantly sang “Never Enough”. “My beautiful Krystel of love, do you remember when you arrived here, you said that you wanted to discover yourself as an artist," Guylaine Tremblay reminded her. "You discovered it in a grand way and you made everyone discover it. I am amazed by your career and your talent.”
Soul number
Corneille brought his musicians and choristers for a frenzied number which put sunshine in the studio. With the Academicians, he covered several of his songs such as “Parce qu’on vient de loin”, “Avec classe”, or still “Nouveau monde”. On the song “Encre rose”, we were surprised to see Dashny arrive, Academician from the previous season who recorded this duet with Corneille. An elegant number that celebrated the singer's twenty-year career.
Good rock
To celebrate the thirty years of her album "Animal", France D'Amour was happy to be able to share the stage with the Academicians, she who had been invited to the very first season of the show in 2002.
She notably took over “Animal”, “Vivante”, “Laisse-moi la chance”, without forgetting her great success “Je n’irais pas ailleurs”. Olivier and Camélia particularly stood out during this number where the electric guitars let themselves go at full power.
Host and singer
Marc Dupré had a surprise for the Academicians, he wrote a song thinking of them, the title of which is "La famille". A very beautiful text in which he recounts his attachment to them. They then shelled together the great successes of the animator-singer, from “Là dans ma tête” to “Si pour te plaire”, on passing by “Entre deux mondes” and “Tout l’amour qu’on donne”.
As a gift, Marc Dupré invited the Academicians to come and sing with him, on June 11 at Place des Arts, in Montreal, and on June 18, at the Videotron Center.
Semi final
The director of the Academy indicated the process that will lead to the final. The four Academicians still in the running will all have to sing in the semi-final next Sunday. The votes of the public will be used to designate the first finalist, while the teachers will choose the second finalist for the ultimate Variety. A first in the history of "Star Académie", because the public has always chosen the two finalists.
Return to the Academy
Returning to the set of "Star Académie" was a special moment for the four singers who participated in the special request on Celine Dion's songs.
"I was in danger during the first gala in 2002," said Mélissa Bédard. “I didn't even know if I was going to enter the Academy. When René Angélil opened the envelope and said my name, it was the realization of many things for me." Brigitte Boisjoli has memories of having the honor of singing "My Heart Will Go On" with Celine Dion. "I was supposed to sing something else at first, but during rehearsals, the other singer was having a hard time. The night before, René Angélil called us into his office and offered me to replace him the next day. I couldn't refuse."
Claude Léveillée made a big impression on Véronique Claveau in 2004. "I got to sing "Frédéric" with him, and he got sick a few months later. I was part of his last public performances. He was so touching and reassuring at the same time." Finally, Annie Villeneuve remembers most of all the preparation. "The moment when we found out what we were going to sing, with whom, all the surprises, that's what I remember the most. The hours of rehearsal in the studio, I lived for that. I was tripping, I loved putting on the show."
Learning from the dislodged
The Académiciens learned a lot during the last few weeks at the Academy. Julien Charbonneau is pleased that he has learned to fully embrace himself. "I learned to tame that since the beginning of the season. I was far from being a shy or embarrassed person, but I learned to assume my choices, my words, my messages or even my clothes. It's a huge and beautiful lesson that I gained during this experience." For Sarah-Maude, the "Star Académie" adventure was incredibly rich. "I proved to myself that I had all the capacities to realize myself in the music business, I really have to trust myself a lot more. But the most important lesson is to be more forgiving and kind to myself. I need to learn to be more gentle and forgive myself more."
---------------------------------
With respect to not allowing the public to choose both finals candidates: perhaps the teachers have had enough of the ‘favoritism’ that the public has displayed throughout the course of the program, and, at least to this extent, have chosen to minimize it. A case in point revolved around Gregory Charles’ comment concerning Eloi (https://showbizz.net/tele/star-academie-gregory-charles-fait-reagir-la-toile-et-pas-pour-les-bonnes-raisons):
-------------------------------
Star Académie : Gregory Charles makes the web react and not for the right reasons
It brews on social networks.
This Sunday, the web ignited about Gregory Charles' reactions and comments to the performance of academicians in danger.
First, his comment to Éloi did not go down well with viewers.
“Éloi, clearly, he is a boy with lots of talent. I wasn't always a fan of his lack of hard work,” he said. To which Marc Dupré replied, subtly: “He is 16 years old!".
The voice teacher went on to say, “but he started working hard and creating hard and that makes for tonight's performance. Cheer!”
The followers of the young man from the Magdalen Islands consider that this comment was inappropriate and that the professor was trying to influence the vote.
The tears of Gregory Charles during Julien's performance, among others, also disturbed several viewers, who saw a plot there.
The viewers' love for Éloi is really strong, there's no doubt about it!
The tears of the other teachers also tickled the fans of the show, who find that they put a little too much.
See some comments at the bottom of the article.
UPDATE. Many viewers are happy to see that Éloi has won the public vote for a third time since it is, according to them, just a nice “snub” to Gregory Charles.
[Here are some of the additional comments by fans]:
**How to influence the vote! Let's call a 16 year old lazy and praise Julien. A little restraint, no?
**Especially when you look at 24/7, Eloi is super hard working and far from lazy. I don't understand Gregory's comment...
**Anyway, from the beginning of the show, everyone knew that Eloi would be saved by the public. Candidates from certain regions have an advantage in this respect. Even if it is never admitted...
**Because, to be honest, the 2 who were taken out tonight were the 2 who deserved to be finalists the most. They were the 2 who had exceptional voices.
---------------------------
At least the show has been consistent: all the best vocalists have now been eliminated, unlike last year, where the general feeling was that at least some of the best singers were in the finals.
In other news, the first album of Félix Lemelin was released on 8/8, with 15 titles, three of them with Lara: “The Truth of Me”; “Un mot a la fois”; “Chez nous” (which we’ve already heard). It’s available on various platforms (e.g., Apple Music, Deezer)
Interesting photo(s)/video(s) of the week:

And a very interesting video from Lara The Ring Fabian
www.youtube.com/watch?v=iyIM1i7U9XQ
making the case for “Lara Fabian’s Undeniable Success” based on
(1) People enjoying Lara’s singing in videos, both in “Reaction videos” which, she has calculated, now have over 16 million views, and viewers of her live performances (e.g., 165 million viewers for “Je t’aime”, 104 million for “Je suis malade”, 48 milllion for Caruso, 43 million for “Adagio”, etc.).
(2) Lara’s audience at her concerts at venues in many countries
(3) The special bond she has with her fans
In response to the video, one person (‘LoveLara”) wrote, “This was so heartfelt. People measure success with hundreds of millions records sold, if you are known in USA and fill up stadiums. Success, for me, is when you sing over 30 yrs and still have an audience. When you can live comfortably with the money you make from music and don’t have to have a side job. When you have fans that follow you and accept you as a human being with all your faults. And that's what Lara has and will always have.”
It’s not clear why the need to argue the case of “Lara’s success” but the above make very salient points. With regard to number of records sold, it has long been the concept that English language albums outsell French ones by something like 10 to 1, though the English language dominance may be changing (https://www.musicbusinessworldwide.com/english-language-music-is-losing-its-stranglehold-on-global-pop-charts-and-youtube-proves-it/). For example, the best selling English album of all time is Michael Jackson's thriller, with 67 million in sales. The best selling French album is Celine Dion's "D'eux", which sold 10 million copies. So Lara's nominal 20 million disc sales, however that is arrived at, would need to be amplified for comparison to English language artists, though of course Lara's number is boosted somewhat by her first English album.
The Star Academie program is now down to the semi-finals, with four candidates left to be reduced to 2 in the next show. More likely than not, Lara will only have two more shows to go as director. Release from that obligation will likely free her to move on with her own recording career, and whatever else she has planned. Stay safe everybody,
David
