The final auditions for Star Academie were shown on TVA this past week, with Lara participating, all of which had been recorded some time ago. However, the Star Academie show in which she was to appear live this past Sunday night was not held. Jean-Philippe Dion, the ‘showrunner’, posted this photo of the smiling judges, at

but then followed that with an ‘empty set’ picture

- IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT -
POSTPONEMENT OF THE FIRST VARIETY AND THE FIRST WEEK OF THE STAR ACADÉMIE DAILY
It is with regret that we learned last night that a fourth candidate tested positive for COVID-19. In order to protect all the candidates and the entire team in front of and behind the cameras, TVA, Québecor Contenu and Productions Déferlantes have made the decision to postpone the first Variété of Star Académie, which was originally scheduled for tonight, as well as the first week of La quotidienne. Under the circumstances, all the candidates have been in preventive isolation since last night. The health and safety of our teams is our priority.
In a week's time, viewers will learn the identities of the 15 new Académiciens and Académiciennes who will realize their dream of participating in Star Académie. The Grand Première will be presented on TVA on Sunday, January 23 at 7:00 p.m., followed by La quotidienne from Monday to Thursday at 7:30 p.m. starting January 24.
---------------------
Presumably Lara was available for the show, after being in isolation for a week; another week off probably won’t hurt her. It does raise several questions: can they be sure that all the contestants will be well by January 23? If not, will they remove affected candidates from the show (it has happened in other reality TV programs for one reason or another)? Will this push the program schedule back by a week, having it go further into May, or try to make it up somehow? Eventually, the show will resume, but there will probably remain some uncertainty for the next few weeks, at least. Here’s a promo for the first show, whenever it occurs,

If you’re interested in the 19 candidates (who will be trimmed to 15), the Star Academie has provided introductions to each of them on their FB site, www.facebook.com/staracademietva/. And one can find their picture here

[There presumably was a live Instagram of Lara with the Academicians: (https://www.qub.ca/tvaplus/video/sa22-live-instagram-16janvier-1063890349?fbclid=IwAR0D_LtcftXcLMVgmVxNZ1lP5UV27ymKadFycE3o2ZHDUvKuoQb4uLuxrcU); if it did take place, it was not available for viewing outside Quebec].
In other news, one last nod towards Lara’s 52nd birthday on 1/9 can be found in a nice dedication published in France (https://www.journaldesfemmes.fr/people/evenements/2686815-lara-fabian-age-couple-enfants-mari-photos-52-ans/?fbclid=IwAR2rnS0wH7yM0CnwZd-KjNzGiYu4MR_RepBbraxXXL-cjdmEbtJNhFxRCgo); here’s the translation:

Lara Fabian turns 52: PHOTOS of a star singer, sincere and natural
Lara Fabian blows out 52 candles on January 9, 2022! Total artist, seasoned sportswoman and accomplished mother: the singer leads her life as a woman with strength and brilliance... and reveals her dramas with sensitivity.
Once is not customary: the year 2021 will have been rich in emotions for the beautiful Lara Fabian! The Belgian-Canadian singer of Italian origins, born in the city of Etterbeek near Brussels in 1970, celebrates her 52nd birthday on January 9, 2022. After 30 years of career, the international star continues to seduce her fans with her natural beauty, her elegance, her velvety voice and her always right words! If she has not returned for another season of The Voice in France, the artist has become the director of the sixth promotion of the Star Academie, relaunched in Quebec. But above all, Lara Fabian put on her kitchen apron for the publication of her autobiography of recipes entitled Je passe à table! This is a promising program for 2022.
--------------------------
And one hopes for more in 2022: a return to in-person concerts, and maybe a new album.
With respect to the comment “reveals her dramas with sensitivity”…nothing could be more appropriate for the next extract from Lara’s book “Je passe a table”:

Eighth Story. Tidal Wave
France
After the period of immense success in Quebec without really being able to predict it, one of my songs is taken over by one of these famous star alignments.
I cross the Atlantic with a bang, thanks to the song 'Tout'.
I wrote this song sitting on the bathroom floor in my first home in Beloeil, Monteregie near Montreal. I wrote it because I knew that Rick and I were over.
I wrote it with a heavy heart saying to myself that if there is anything left of us, it will at least be music.
In June 1996, 'Tout' took all of us by surprise. It becomes an earworm, turns on the French-speaking radios of the whole world. The sales in single: more than 3 million copies.
We dream.
After that, it is the tidal wave.
The successes follow one another.
The Zeniths fill up.
The awards are pouring in, in France, Belgium and in many other countries of the French-speaking world.
We are the talk of the town in the offices of the American majors, overtaking by the absurd rate of our sales Bryan Adams of the international Billboard, himself with his historical success that breaks all records. We go number 1, in front of his (Everything I Do) I Do It For You, the theme song of the movie Robin Hood with Kevin Costner.
Dad, mom and Rick are ecstatic.
Personally, I don't understand anything anymore.
We receive a totally surreal call.
The three bosses of the biggest international record companies in the United States want to meet with us and discuss our future in English.
In France, I don't know what to call myself anymore. I am everywhere and nowhere at the same time. In spite of the success I achieve, I am not used to this atmosphere, very far from the bonhomie and kindness of Quebecers.
In spite of the growing love of the public, and my lightning success, I perceive the ambient cynicism and I feel very well that the one who is praised today could very well be destroyed tomorrow.
For me, this feeling will only be the beginning.
But we are not there yet.
And for now, I'm enjoying it.
What I remember from this period, are the private and rare moments. The ones that mark the moments of overwhelming and unprecedented success. These are my returns to Brussels.
They make me happy.
During my promo trips between Montreal and Paris, I always manage to take a little time apart and go see Nath, sit on the terrace at my friend Leslie's, chez Wittamer (Wittamer is a century old patisserie on the Grand Sablon square in Brussels). I see my friends and family.
I don't sleep in a hotel, but at mom and dad's place.
In the small apartment where I was born.
What a blast...
All of us sneak in and, on those days, mom, as you will have understood by now, prepares a majestic meal for us. One of the things she cooks that I love most in the world is eggplant parmigiana. But above all, it is her osso buco, veal shanks and marrow bones that cook slowly and for a long time in a white wine and tomato sauce. At the end of the cooking process, it is topped with creme champêtre and gramolata.
A dream.
All served with egg tagliatelle, bought by dad from his friend Hugo. He knows one of those Piedmontese (Northern Italy) mothers who mastered this ancestral art and who produced pasta to console a widow of the day before. Yes, again...
My friends will confirm that if I were asked the famous question of the last meal before dying, I would say without any hesitation that I would like to eat the osso buco of the mamma and the egg pasta that dad brought back.
And for dessert?
His crepe comedie francaise.
All washed down with an amarone from Tenuta Giuseppe Quintarelli.
I can die.
But for now, it's better to stay alive. The promotion, the travels often take over the day after these wonderful and too short evenings.
By the way, right after the osso buco prepared that night, I'm going on a trip the next day.
And not the least.
Signature in the USA
I boarded the Concorde to go and meet one of the three leaders of American multinationals in New York.
The one from Sony.
In the end, it is with him that I will sign, after having made the tour of the grand dukes.
Something tells me that he is from the South.
Something tells me that, maybe, he will understand me better than the others. Nothing could be further from the truth.
During this same trip, I meet one of the greatest producers of his generation and of his time at the Factory in New York, the mythical studio where the greatest of this world have recorded.
In the following months, we start the production of my first self-titled album in English which will include the hits: Adagio, I will Love Again, Broken Vow, Love By Grace and others.
The fight of the egos and the tensions begin.
International success and descent into hell
Between abuse, intimidation and bad docking of karmas, I'm in the wrong love door. I don't listen to anyone.
My descent into hell begins.
Slowly but surely.
My relationship with my loved ones changes, my relationship with food too.
Following a series of violent confrontations about my image with "experts" in the field, following violent and unplanned engagements that I will talk about later, but especially following this toxic and disturbing relationship with this producer, I start to feel bad. Very bad.
At the end of April 1999, in a popular restaurant in New York called Scalinatelle, where all the Oscar-winning cinema people come, where I am a regular customer with my showbiz "friends", for the first time I don't keep my meal.
After swallowing a mountain of white truffle tagliatelle, I headed to the bathroom like an automaton. I will never forget how I got out of that bathroom...
My mother and my manager are there. They understood perfectly what was going on. Both of them are desperate.
From this moment on, it will be a long journey through the desert.
I fight against an animal called complex food disorder.
I will hurt myself.
It will last seven long years.
I will oscillate between weeks when everything is apparently fine. Weeks where I will eat an apple cut into seven wedges for each day. A green apple on which I will plant little flags with the name of each day of the week.
Other weeks where I will spend entire nights with my head in the toilet.
It is the desire to live and have a child later that will save me. But also a cohort of exceptional women who, like a blessing, will appear in my life one after the other.
Each one in her own way will try to get me out of this slump.
All these women, whose names I prefer not to mention out of respect for confidentiality, will not let me out of their sight.
During long years, they will commit themselves, they will repeat themselves, they will also get angry... They will do everything possible for me to recover. It will work, it will take years, but I will heal.
I went through all the strategies. All the steps, all the phases.
I'll go through the most undrinkable concoctions.
I'll read books that are edifying and where I'll find treasures. I will learn spiritual techniques that will become my daily life, my credo, my rebirth.
Very slowly I will regain hope, I will regain a taste for everything.
I will touch again the borders of what defines me, beyond the shadows.
The pleasure, the sharing, the joy of sitting at the table, around a dish that gathers, because it is made with love.
-------------------------
Quite sobering…while fans were generally aware of her eating problems, the degree of difficulty and the length of time she experienced it were not widely appreciated. Although Lara doesn’t mention their names here, we know that the ‘famous producer’ was Walter Afanasieff, and the head of Sony Music, who Lara so misjudged, was Thomas D. Mottola. When one wonders about Lara’s albums and actions in the mid-2000’s, when her popularity started decreasing, this provides perspective on what she was going through…
Interesting pictures/videos of the week:
From the Star Academie, a wonderful picture,

It's TONIGHT [last Sunday] that we discover the last candidates who will meet at variety this Sunday and those who will go directly to the Academy!
On your marks, get set, sing!”
Make that next Sunday (hopefully)…The tissues were obviously used for another purpose...

This upcoming week would seem to be an easy one for Lara, with all the daily Star Academie shows cancelled. Stay safe everybody.
