Some book-related news this past week. Lara left the following post on her FB and Instagram sites
--------------------------------
- JE PASSE A TABLE
{ Baby, I loved my Sicily, and I must say that it has never changed.
Everything is different out there.
The color of the sky.
The color of human skin.
The color of the clothes
The color of the fruit.
The color of the vegetables
The color of the plates.
The color of the moods.
The color of light .... }
I share with you an excerpt from my book "Je passe a table"... I share this recipe of an orange and fennel salad with oregano, a tasteful memory of those moments that rocked my childhood and remain engraved in me forever 💕✨
----------------------------------------
She then left the referred picture/recipe at:
www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=469787291172236&set=a.259330805551220
and
For those who can’t see it, and are interested, the ingredients are:
4 large sweet oranges
1 large bulb of fennel
90 ml (6 tbsp) olive oil
salt and pepper
0.5 ml (1 tsp) oregano
1 red onion, thinly sliced
And the instructions are:
1. Cut the oranges into supremes (i.e. remove the skin, membranes and pips) or into simple slices. Set aside.
2. Cut fennel into thin strips. Set aside.
3. In a bowl, mix olive oil, salt, pepper, oregano and red onion.
4. Add oranges and fennel, and mix gently. Place nicely in a dish.
And her overall comment reads, “This recipe is a marvelous antipasto, but it can also serve as an accompaniment to a grilled fish.
In related book news, Lara The Ring Fabian posted Lara’s appearance on ‘Ca finit bien la semaine’ from November 12th, with his usual addition of English subtitles (again – many thinks to him!), at
www.youtube.com/watch?v=ndhyT1Hycjs
On it, the hosts discussed Lara’s book. They called it “stunning” and “gorgeous”, where one can find many fine recipes – and that the apron suits her! Lara repeated that she found the idea of an autobiography half-way through her life “redundant and draining” so she tried to find a “common thread” that could be the basis of her story. That could allow her to tell her story “with a grain of salt, with humor, and a bit of distance”. So sitting at the table was where all these things could converge. Also “living moments around a table” had always been fundamental in her life. She noted that “I sit down at the table” is a French expression for “telling your story” – coming from the time when prisoners would not ‘tell their story’ until they were given food to eat. Feeding people so that they would confess – similar to how she provides ‘confidences’ in this book alongside her culinary recipes.
[And, as a non-sequitor, one has to say – the ‘supernatural’ stories Lara told on that show are mind-blowing].
[How the book is going to be handled here, is that each week we’ll present a translation of a few pages/story Lara provides – this will become a ‘usual’ occurrence, similar to the “interesting “photos’ of the week].
On another related show of consequence, Lara discussed the book on “Tout le monde en parle” (https://ici.radio-canada.ca/tele/tout-le-monde-en-parle/site/segments/entrevue/378767/guy-lepage-lara-fabian-musique-autobiographie-?fbclid=IwAR23ZR8Kk9ELjr5oq7FEIOFh9x6k1q5HELmJT8S7AVG7F2K3KapRUggX0ZE). Here’s a brief summary (which also helps summarize, at least partly, which stories are in the book):
----------------------------------------------
**Although this is a book with many recipes, the hosts were much more interested in the stories Lara had to tell.
**As said elsewhere, Lara indicated she was looking for the ‘red line’ that could unite all the different stories, and she found that ‘at the table’.
**Lara noted the story about the ‘demagnetized tape’ that her Father heard, leading to his thinking he had thrown his money away, but it was eventually cleared up (a year later).
**The importance of Rick Allison, who changed her life.
**The importance of ‘Je suis malade’ which helped make her career in France.
**The violent confrontations with Sony about her image in the U.S.
**The eating disorder associated with her ‘never being blond enough, never being thin enough’ to meet the U.S. demands.
**Her problems with the French media, esp. the Guignols
**Lara’s having to sing for Gorbachev with a stress fracture of two verterbrae.
**On her role with the Star Acadame: “...to sit with them listening, not just in the fact of teaching them technically the things or to teach them a kind of interpretation which seemed to me to be right, but especially to be there for the listening. We don't measure right away to what extent a young person who is a human being behind an artist needs to be listened to, needs to be heard, needs to be understood, and that was the most important thing for me as director of this Star Academy, to have been able to be there because they just needed a final ear.
-----------------------------------
In other news, the ‘Lara Fabian est ton autre’ FB site noted that Felix Lemelin had posted a nice picture of himself with Lara, available at
Felix’s accompanying text reads:
-----------------------------------------
“Again, a huge thank you for your beautiful comments since the release of "Chez nous"! 🙏🏻
This song means a lot to me as it was created by Lara and Gabriel, two incredible people who have a special place in my heart. As soon as I heard it for the first time, the song immediately spoke to me. I've always felt a bit like that, searching for the place where I can be me and dream. And it was in learning to be myself that I found my place.
For me, home is music, my family, my friends and my girlfriend. No matter what paths we take in life, we always end up back home. ❤

This week’s translated excerpt(s) from ‘Je passe a table’:
-----------------------------------------------
Opening quote: The pleasure of the table is of all ages, of all conditions, of all countries and of all days; it can be associated with all the other pleasures, and remains the last, to console us of their loss. – Anthelme Brillat-Savarin
Dedication: Good, proper and just, carpe diem [seize the day]!
This is the credo of my life, inspired by my mom Luisa,
inspired also by an art of living passed on from generation to generation, from woman to woman, sometimes wives and mothers, sometimes rebels and adventurers.
All seated in turn around the table of my life, they have shaped my memory and nourished my flesh, with resilience in constant elaboration.
I dedicate this book to Louis and to Lou.
The two women whom I love the most in the world.

A good place to start!
