The latest Star Academie show is once again the main story, not surprisingly.
Lara was asked why the three contestants were ‘in danger’ this evening. She replied,
“Charles is one of the incredibly rich beings, filled with all kinds of excitement. I would also say that he was a tree. And I would also say that he has perhaps need of measuring the power of silence. Which is incredible music too, silence has power in music, that of being music itself. And I think we have arrived this week. I did the same lying on the floor at one point. He is there to measure the power of silence.” As shown in his segment, she also said he is “in need of an infinite embrace”. In the segment about him, we also saw that he is very emotional, and has great doubts about himself.
“Rosalie is there because, I think the results will not contradict me, we all really wanted Quebec to have her tonight. Give her another opportunity. To be able to have this chance to be seen for the incredible talent that she is. That's why she's on the edge.” In her segment she said she was surprised she was ‘in danger’, but after she got over it, and met a teacher who told her to be proud of her appearance, she looked forward to the opportunity to perform.
“Zara, she also has a need like Charles of being seen, but above all to send a message in the sense that she is part of this generation which at the moment is going through a very difficult period. The parents have done the best that one can to protect them but I find that her voice, which is what she has to say as a young person, Zara, to address this youth, the best tool we have is love. And that is why she is in danger, to speak to us of this love with which one can do miracles.” In her segment, she indicated she has had trouble releasing her emotions, and accepting that she deserved to be here. Hence, as Lara said, like Charles.
So here were the performances of the three candidates; as usual, the videos mentioned in this review, and more, are available in the Journal de Quebec article linked to below. (In particular, don’t miss the Academicians singing “Le blues du businessman”). Note also that a number of the ‘daily’ videos from the show, and others are available at the “Lara Fabian Connecting People” site,

Charles Kamoun: He sang “Casting” by Christophe Mae. Obviously he doesn’t have a great voice, but it does have power, and his emotional presentation of this song was impressive. His honesty and vulnerability showed through. Far from a classical singer, but there is definitely something appealing about him.
Rosalie Ayotte: She sang “Alone” by Heart. She did a good job on an emotional song that allowed her to showcase her range, and she got better as the song went along.
Zara Zargsyan: She sang “J’ai 12 ans” by Diane Dufresne [Actually, Zara is only 16 years old, so it’s not that great a stretch!] She said she was singing it for her mother, to tell her things she’s been afraid to say to her. She doesn’t have the greatest voice, but she presents a pretty appearance, she was very relaxed, and she gave the impression of actually being a “singer”. Perhaps when she gets older her voice will get stronger and more accurate. It seems this could be the proper profession for her. Lara said that “this evening she had left the space where she had been afraid of being herself.”
It was a tough choice…I picked the first two performers, guessing that the audience would choose Charles, and the judges would pick Rosalie. In fact, the public chose Zara (appearances make a difference). The program showed Lara after the announcement, and while she took special care with Zara this past week, she didn’t look particularly overjoyed - maybe because as Gregory, who had to make the announcement of the choice of the four judges, indicated, it was not an easy one to make. They chose Rosalie. I have no great disagreement with the decision, though, as indicated above, I expected that the depth of the performance Charles provided would have carried the day for him; apparently voice quality matters also!
Meanwhile, Charles made a statement at the end in which he said that if he had won that second place, he would have given it to Rosalie, because he missed his fiancee greatly and wanted to start a family. He then said how much he loved his experience with the teachers, and his fellow Academicians. The Emcee spoke for everyone there when he said “There is only one Charles”. It was announced that the ‘dislodged’ candidate would appear the next day on the program “Salut Bonjour” and Rhythme 105.7 FM, so he will have one last hurrah from this experience.
Johnny Orlando, who just turned 18 and is thus not much older than Zara, was one of the stars and performed several songs with the ‘Academicians’. It was mentioned previously that there is an increasing amount of English in the musical industry in Quebec – and his songs, and speech to the audience, were all in English. However, in other respects, French songs were well represented, as indicated in the following article in the Journal of Quebec (https://www.journaldequebec.com/2021/02/28/soir-de-legendes-a-star-academie-1):
-----------------------------------
Evening of legends at "Star Académie"
Little Simard, always much bigger and at the top of his game, and a dignified and haughty Claude Dubois: it was the evening of legendary Quebec monuments at Star Académie on Sunday.
“Le blues du businessman”, which opened the evening in the mouths of academicians, stuck well to this third variety, where it was good to reconnect with giants who we have sorely missed during this last year of confinement.
It started with René Simard in brilliant good humor, who had dragged out his infectious laughter. It was 60 years anniversary evening for the darling of the province, who is also celebrating 50 years of career.
After having sketched for the thousandth time the steps and mimics of the video for "Tourne la page", René was the star of a medley without too many artifices, woven around his passion for the musical (Chantons sous la rain , The Phantom of the Opera and ... Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious, difficult diction exercise for academicians!)
In video, Dominique Michel had recorded a little word to wish a happy birthday to his friend René Simard.
Dubois, a rock
But first, looking moved, Gregory Charles from the outset admired his students sharing the words of "Besoin pour vivre", "Bébé jajou la toune", "Pas question d’adventure", "Infidele" and other "Artistes" by Claude Dubois, and playing the chorus by circling in the distance the 73-year-old rock. [Covid-spacing]
The latter, alone in his space in the middle of the main stage, straight as an oak, pushed his "hits" effortlessly, the power and intensity still intact. Singing still seems so natural and easy for Claude Dubois.
"I think that our young people have just had quite a moment", hissed Patrice Michaud at the end of the number, which Lara Fabian had introduced by mentioning that Claude Dubois is to French song what Anticosti is to Quebec, to illustrate the greatness of his 61-year career.
More insurance
At the turn of 8 p.m., the darlings of the charts, 2Frères, took to a pretty forest and campfire setting to draw out their words that Quebec now knows by heart. Black History Month was also celebrated with a supercharged Motown-flavored segment (where contestants Dashny and Shayan shone like masters), and future legend, young Canadian singer Johnny Orlando, breathed new life into novelty at this evening of sure values.
Among academics, we take a little more tone each week. The smiles widen, the movements of the “Maintenant et partout” choreography become more precise, the wrong notes and nervousness gradually fade away. It was good, Sunday, to see the shy Jacob Roberge coming out of his shell, on the first bars of "Blues du Businessman" or the chorus of "Nous autres". Lunou Zucchini equally gained in assurance.
As for the Star Académie Squad , Mathieu Dufour and Pierre-Yves Roy-Desmarais pushed the madness up a notch, by cooking a family recipe for Rosalie Ayotte with the drag queen Rita Baga, and pretending to be Zara Sargsyan a whole day, at her home, with her parents and her best friend ... delicious!
Serene Charles
As for the dislodged of the week, Charles Kamoun, he leaves home with his head held high, not at all bitter. If he had been the choice of the public, he would have stayed in the adventure. On the other hand, even if it had been the choice of the professors - he was not - he would have given way to the determined Rosalie. He even specified it to the latter while the professors made their choice.
"I am very serene," said the boy from Quebec in an interview after the show. "I already have texts and compositions. The Academy was the best experience of my life, but I learned what I had to learn there. Yes, I certainly have something else to learn, but I'm very proud of my performance, and I've worked with the best team. I know that, for the public, with a personality like mine, you like it or you don't like it, but this is only the beginning for me.”
The 27-year-old already has a musical excerpt to present to the public up his sleeve, and his wife will take on the role of his manager. And Charles was serious when he said on television that he wants to start a family quickly.
"We're getting married this summer, and we're going to try to have a baby tonight!" he said, looking happy.
The three songs performed by the candidates in danger are available on QUB music and on all streaming and download platforms. [and with this article]
The Presentations of the Candidates
The sweet Zara, so strong and mature for her 16 years, could not have chosen a better piece to show off than Diane Dufresne's "J’ai douze ans", which suited her like a glove and which remains so relevant today, more than 40 years after its writing. Her colleague Meghan Oak wiped a tear at the end of her performance. No one was probably surprised to see her “saved” by the public “You had all the courage this week. You have gone through all modesty", said Lara Fabian to the "little big Zara”. "Thank you for letting us enter your heart." The Director had particularly taken the youngest of the Academy under her wing this week, Zara having gone through a small depression due to her distance from the family home.
We felt Rosalie fragile in her interpretation of "Alone" by Heart, a wise choice given her vocal capacity. The candidate could not avoid some false notes, and we would have liked to hear more flights from her at the crucial moments of the song. The teachers' vote was difficult between her and Charles Kamoun, admitted Gregory Charles, but Rosalie, who was so keen to continue the adventure, was the lucky one. Ariane Moffatt had previously had several good words towards the young woman from Saint-Tite. “Rosalie, you are a free woman, and you don't see one every day. You are able to put yourself in the shoes of a "melody" (...). You have completely opened up, you have given yourself completely, you are one of the people who sing for the right reasons,” said the teacher of musical creation.
Authentic, Charles Kamoun remained so until the end, revealing that even if he had not been excluded by the teachers, he would have left of his own accord and would have ceded his seat to Rosalie. "I have a family to start, I miss my woman very much!" said the endearing Charles. The latter had yet offered his best performance in three weeks at Star Academy on "Casting", by Christophe Maé, Gregory Charles saluted him. His almost spoken line reading was intense like him, and seemed to delight Lara Fabian. “You sang so instinctively. There is something so natural about you (...). There are no limits where you are able to go”, praised Gregory Charles.

From what we’ve seen, while Lara may be the ‘director’, she appears more and more to be a prime teacher. Whether this was the original intention or not, segments like this, as well as her “post mortem”, would seem to indicate that this TV program is so far fulfilling her need to ‘transmit’ her knowledge and experience to young prospective artists. But what happens when the Star Academie ends in a few months? Will she be satisfied with this short term ‘transmittal’, or will she be even more interested in opening up her own school, as she still is supposed to be doing with Pierre Yves Duchesne in Belgium?

In that same vein, (duplicated from last week) linked to by the ‘lara fabian est ton autre’ FB site, from the account of Marco Marsolais
with the caption, “a little Bardot”.
And…finally… an interesting painting of Lara by Mohammed Attam, as linked to on the Lara Fabian Coeur de Lumiere FB site,
The all-consuming nature of Lara’s work on the Star Academie practically guarantees that most of her time, and news, will be devoted to it in the coming several months. Meanwhile, Covid cases continue to decrease throughout Europe; perhaps by June Lara will be able to get in those concerts after all! Stay safe everybody.

with the caption, “a little Bardot”.
