Lara has been getting a lot of very good reviews for her appearance on the various Star Academia segments, and in response she posted the following picture on her sites, at
www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=283173506500283&set=a.259330805551220
and
with the caption, “Ready to attack another week full of energy and good mood ✌️💕 and I take this opportunity to thank you for all the lovely messages of love and sympathy... miss you too... so strong... Love ❣️”
As for the show itself: The latest episode of the Star Academie (#2 of the actual competition) took place Sunday night. Here are some notes concerning it. Again, all the musical performances discussed below are available in the link to the Journal de Quebec provided in the article following these notes.
**The general vocal quality definitely picked up, now that the official candidates are on display…
**The idea for this segment was that three candidates who were “in danger” were to compete, the audience was to choose one to ‘save’, and the judges picked another. Therefore one would be eliminated, bringing the number from 15 down to 14.
** The first competitor was Maeva Grelet. She sang “Rise Up’ of Andrea Day. She has a great voice, capable of handling different octaves and rhythms, fortunately so because the song is really all over the place. She did a good job, and in my opinion was the best of the night.
**Maeva acknowledged Lara helping her, and a segment of that can be seen at
www.facebook.com/larafabiantonautre/videos/210990450727422
**The second Academician was Olivier Faubert, who sang “Tener debout” of Fred Pellerin. He admitted to being afraid and having trouble picking his song, but he chose this one because it actually pertained to his state of mind, and the need to stand up to what comes. The song wasn’t great, and he was not great either. The least successful of the night (IMHO).
**The final candidate was Shayan Heidari who sang “Make it Rain” from Ed Sheran. He was quite good, giving an emotional performance with fine vocal quality.
**One difference from the previous show is that after each performance the judges didn’t speak, but fellow Academicians, friends or relatives got a chance to compliment the singer.
**The audience vote chose Shayan, and then the three judges (same as for the first show) chose Maeva. Hence, from my point of view, the two best candidates did advance.
**While the songs sung this time were longer than last week, the whole competition didn’t take all that much time. A good part of the show was filled with the full suite of Academicians joining guest singers for medleys of their songs, among them Roch Voisine and Charlotte Cardin, who also sang her new song “Meaningless”. It was good to get to see the other candidates, even if they weren’t directly competing. This makes them more familiar to the audience, and gives them a fuller experience. In effect, this is really a variety show featuring the Acadamecians, even more than being simply a competition.
Here’s a review article (https://www.journaldequebec.com/2021/02/21/un-premier-au-revoir-a-star-academie):
-------------------------------
A first goodbye to "Star Académie"
Candidate Olivier Faubert, 28, from Montreal, is the first to be eliminated from “Star Académie 2021”
Goodbye, Olivier: the oldest Academician in the group was the first to leave the Star Académie adventure on Sunday after a variety that was much better mastered than last week.
Interviewed when he left the stage, the 28-year-old young man, who had defended himself with the play “Tenir debout”, said he was happy to have been faithful to his values ... and to have opted for a song in French.
"I am proud of what I projected on television," said Olivier Faubert. I have received good comments. My one and only disappointment is that no song in French was chosen by the public. The French language, in my opinion, is fading a little from the general public in Quebec. And that I can do nothing about."
“Maybe I played the wrong cards. I do not know. But I received a number of messages telling me to continue singing songs in French. I also stayed true throughout the adventure. It's the thing I'm most proud of. The person you saw on TV is the person I am at home, with my friends, with my family,” added the person who works at Café Lézard on avenue Masson in Montreal.
“I miss my dog, I miss my girlfriend. It's going to be a gentle comeback.”
Better successful variety
Well-inhabited space, better positioned musicians, addition of sound and visual effects, more defined lighting and mood enhancers, guaranteed dance steps: the improvements made to this second Sunday Star Académie gala, compared to the first, were as numerous as remarkable, and foreshadow high-level shows for the continuation of the Star Académie 2021 journey.
Add to the portrait the contagious pleasure of the Academicians, more and more comfortable in their sequined dresses and chic jackets. Moreover, a nice find to ask young talents to comment on the services of their friends after these performed.
In the animation, Patrice Michaud has gained even more status, always more comfortable and relaxed in his master of ceremonies shoes.
Encouragement
We reconnected with several strong elements of the Star Académie from the old days during this second meeting.
For example, participants in danger can now count on the presence of two or three of their relatives to encourage them, by way of assistance, necessarily limited. "There are 10 of you in the room! It reminds me of my first tour ... ” joked Patrice Michaud.
As in the "good old days", the candidates in the hot seat received surprise encouragement in the early evening (from her grandmother and her French cousin for Maëva, from her ex-colleague of Le Petit Prince, Michel Rivard, for Olivier, and singer Jack Met, of the group AJR, for Shayan).
Dashny Jules even got an invitation from Corneille to record a song in the studio with him, the kind of gift that was common at the Star Academy of old.
With an enthusiastic Charlotte Cardin, the Academicians revisited the singer-songwriter's successes, from "Faufile" to "Daddy" via "Passive Aggressive". Zara and Meghan were rulers on Fous n’importe où, and Charlotte later returned to “christen” a new song, “Meaningless”.
Roch Voisine revisited his immortal "Hélène" in a more rock sound (or "rock"?), While near him, his new colleagues shouted on "Là-bas dans l’ombre", "J’entends frapper", "Tout me ramène à toi" and another old favorite "Darlin".
Welcome, Éloi!
Much to our amazement, top-performing Judi Richards, Patsy Gallant and Kim Richardson took turns joining the merry band during an invigorating disco segment. We were also treated to a sober version of “Quand les hommes vivront d’amour”, welcoming Raymond Lévesque's fresh departure of less than a week.
We also highlighted the arrival of baby Éloi, the second son of Academician William Cloutier, born earlier this week, by giving the young dad a huge teddy bear, accompanied by a bright potpourri on the theme of childhood and love ("Tant qu’il y aura des enfants", "Un enfant", and "What A Wonderful World").
The songs performed by the three candidates in danger on Sunday are available now on QUB Music and all streaming and download platforms.
And now about the candidates:
Shayan Heiradi (People's Choice)
In Thursday's daily, rehearsing with Lara Fabian, Shayan seemed determined to perform on a high note the entirety of Ed Sheeran's “Make It Rain”. Sunday, we saw that the young artist had undoubtedly listened to the advice of the director, because his delivery of the piece which celebrates the happiness of authenticity was perfectly balanced. Ariane Moffatt seemed spellbound during Shayan's number.
"This performance is at your level, which is already very high", mentioned Jacob Roberge to congratulate his new roommate at the Academy. Shayan was both shaken and happy when he learned that he had won the public vote.
Maëva Grelet (Choice of teachers)
"I love you, I love you!" exclaimed Maëva several times when she learned that she was returning to the Academy on Sunday, having obtained the favor of the faculty. The young woman offered an intense rereading of “Rise Up”, by Andra Day, woven with powerful vocal surges, to symbolize the love she has for her mother. In the room, her mother seemed to be excessively moved by her interpretation, just like a marveled Lara Fabian and a jubilant Xavier Dolan. “Listen, my love! Look, you put tears in my eyes! This is exactly what I wanted you to do! (...) I am so proud of you!" Annabel Oreste launched to her comrade to compliment her.
Olivier Faubert (Dislodged)
Gregory Charles had warned Olivier that "Tenir debout", a David Portelance tune popularized by Fred Pellerin, was a "tough monument to climb". Olivier nevertheless tackled it with skill, pronouncing each word carefully, visibly putting all his heart into it, never taking his eyes off the camera. He himself seemed shaken after his own performance. His colleague Charles Kamoun reiterated his unwavering friendship for him and his pride in him, nicknamed him "my brother".
-------------------------------
With all due respect to his point of view, I don’t believe that singing in French was what called Olivier to be ‘dislodged’, but we’ll see whether any pattern develops in the subsequent shows.
Lara noted on her FB site that the ‘post mortem’ for each of the shows is available on the Star Academie FB site, and is open for everyone to see. It features Lara reviewing the performances and teaching the various students (for over an hour!). The post mortem for last night’s show was to be found at
www.facebook.com/staracademietva/videos/461417248385762
(the show actually started at about 16 minutes in on that video – it took a while for Lara to arrive in Waterloo). Lara is therefore actually more prominent on this TV program than she ever was for The Voice/La Voix shows. However, as of this writing, it is no longer available outside Quebec; perhaps it was only available for a limited time.
A short interview witj Lara related to her ‘directorship’ can be heard on rhythme FM at

In the same vein, on the site for “Audnaturelle”, a jewlery designer, there are these pictures of Lara (thanks to the ‘Lara Fabian est ton autre’ site for the link),
As an escape at home from all this, Lara left the following set of pictures on her FB site,

LARA FABIAN SHINES IN AN ELEGANT BLACK DRESS AT STAR ACADÉMIE!
Lara Fabian drew all eyes on Sunday evening on the set of the second variety of Star Académie !
The star shone in a black dress chosen by stylist Patrick Vimbor . She was made up by Marco Marsolais and styled by Marcus Villeneuve. The result is astounding!
Here is the magnificent style of the director of the Academy (and they show those pictures)…
Wow! She is sublime!

Finally, the Lara Fabian America site has some pictures of Lara from the ‘post mortem’ show, available at

No question of how Lara’s time will be spent this coming week, or any of the weeks to follow for the next several months. It looks like the ‘Director’ position is a highly prominent one on these shows, and Lara is getting plenty of opportunity to teach, even though she’s not formally one of the teachers. And combined with that, she gets to stay in the vicinity of her family. All of this is probably making her very happy!
