Lara celebrated her 51st birthday this past week (January 9th), posting a picture on her FB and Instagram sites,
www.facebook.com/larafabianofficial/photos/a.622966977744803/4965349706839820/
and
with her caption, “And yes I'm 51 this morning....
Thank you all for your many messages of love... I love you too.... ♥️🥰♥️”
And many messages there were: the FB announcement had 27,000 comments (with good wishes, creative emojis and cartoon pictures), and the posted picture had 71,000 likes, while that picture on Instagram had 34,000 likes. And with respect to that picture: it was largely make-up free, as Lara wanted to be honest about her age-related appearance. More power to her!
Various fan websites celebrated her birthday in their own way. For example, the ‘Lara Fabian est ton autre’ FB site posted the video of fans celebrating her 50th birthday from the ‘Lara’ documentary, www.facebook.com/larafabiantonautre/videos/1119704638464716. and the ‘Lara Fabian America’ had a nice video with pictures (https://www.facebook.com/larafabianamerica/videos/186802593173043). Other sites included photos of their choice. We wish Lara a very happy birthday (belated, as usual!) as well!
Cherie Belgique, in honor of Lara’s birthday, asked people to indicate how they discovered Lara, i.e., from which of her songs?

Interestingly, on that website the great majority of the 18 replies chose “Tout”, the song that is now in exile in Lara’s opinion, due to its (her) lyrics.
Another top story was Lara’s appearance on “Ici TV”. The show was called “Priere de ne pas envoyer de fleurs” (Please do not send flowers). As described on their site,
“Imagine for an hour that in a humorous and fictitious way, your favorite personalities are killed and then witnessed a great posthumous celebration rendered by talented artists. Songs, monologues and tickets, humor, dance and music: all talents are called upon to create each week a great hour of variety to the glory of our guest.”

with the caption, “With the departure of Lara Fabian, the Star Academy show lost its Academy Director. In the company of singer Brigitte Boisjoli who participated in Star Académie in 2009, Patrice went in search of the rare pearl… With Charles Lafortune.”

The last set, and one the videos above, shows one aspect of the humor, with the wrong spelling of Garou’s name…
In last week’s News Update we covered the official picture taken of the Star Academie cast. Lara posted a video she described as “Remembering a photo shoot at the end of 2020... thanks 🙏
You Rock
I love you 🥰′′. Lara was certainly ‘rocking’ in the video, available at:

And there was a replay of the TVA show “Ça commence bien lʼannée” [The year starts well], which reviews the various shows they will be putting on this coming season. Lara’s segment for the Star Academie is the first one, at

Interesting photo(s) of the day: from the Lara Fabian America site, a nice reflective picture of Lara,

And from the “Lara Fabian Je t’aime” site, an alluring picture used for their birthday wishes,

Finally, Genevieve Charonneau’s photo of Lara, which will become a classic:

This coming week (January 17, 7 p.m.), the first of the Star Academie shows will air, cutting the 60 girls and boys to 30 participants, via the first “Selection Camp”. Lara will presumably have some responsibility, but we will have to see how visible she is on the show. There is a question as to how the Covid epidemic will affect it, and Lara’s life in general. Quebec is going into increasing 'lockdown', as indicated (https://www.quebec.ca/en/health/health-issues/a-z/2019-coronavirus/confinement-in-quebec/); here’s what the new rules mean:
As of Saturday, January 9, 2021, a curfew will be in effect. Between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. Quebecers must not leave their homes except in cases that justify travel. Because of the recent changes in the epidemiological situation, all of Québec, except the Cree Territory of James Bay and Nunavik, will be on Maximum Alert (red zone) from January 9 up to and including February 8, 2021.
In particular, prohibited will be indoor or outdoor visitors from another address to homes and cottages, and indoor or outdoor private gatherings.
Here are the exceptions:
*a person whose presence is required at the person’s place of work or who is transporting goods needed for the ongoing activities of the person’s enterprise;
*a person who is going to a pharmacy to obtain medication or pharmaceutical, hygienic or sanitary products;
*a person who must go to or return from a hospital, a clinic, or a dentist’s or optometrist’s office;
*a person who must visit a sick or injured parent;
*a student who must participate in a face-to-face evening class or go to a laboratory in a recognized school;
*a parent who must accompany his or her children to the home of the other parent who has custody of them;
*a person who is going to take an inter-regional or inter-provincial bus, a train or a plane for final travel to the person’s destination;
*a person who must go out so that his dog can do its business, within a radius of no more than one kilometre from the person’s place of residence or temporary residence;
*a person who must travel in order to comply with a court judgment, to respond to a summons to appear before a court, or to exercise custody or access rights as a parent;
*a person who must accompany to a medical appointment another person who is unable to drive;
*a parent who must accompany a sick child to the hospital;
*a person travelling to give blood under the supervision of Héma-Québec;
*a parent who must accompany an adolescent to his work.
Travel between regions and cities is not recommended (except for essential travel, students, workers, shared custody, freight transportation). Non-priority commercial enterprises must close until February 8, 2021. Enterprises authorized to pursue their activities must offer only essential goods and services. Activities organized in a public place are prohibited, except for funerals.
The very first 'exception' might apply to Lara; otherwise, all of this suggests that Lara would not be able to travel from her home to the Academie building in Waterloo, as she had apparently planned, three times/week, at least until February 8th. If that were to come to pass, it’s unclear how it would affect her fulfilling her responsibilities [and hopefully the corona virus will not bring some realism to ‘the ICI TV show (!)]. If for this reason, or simply how the show is organized, Lara is not before the cameras on this and subsequent episodes, then our coverage of the show will be much more abbreviated.
Stay safe everybody,
David
