This week featured a few more examinations of Lara’s “issues” revealed in the documentary “Lara” and her subsequent interviews on it. The particular issue that came to prominence was Lara’s discussion of her ‘body image’, for example in these two articles. First from (amomama.fr/235433-lara-fabian-propos-de-ses-inscurits-sur.html):

If Lara Fabian is now fulfilled and has full self-confidence, this was not always the case. Indeed, there was a time when the latter was particularly complexed by her physique.
In a documentary dedicated to her and which bears her name, the singer confided in the subject. Find out all the details.
COMPLEXED BY HER PHYSIQUE
In the documentary dedicated to her and which bears her name, Lara revealed many details about her private life. In particular, she poured out on one thing that kept her from flourishing in the past. Something that is none other than her complex concerning her physical appearance.
Indeed, for several years, it put a brake on her happiness. A complex which according to her was not just "in the sense of her body" but even deeper. Moreover, during the interview, she confided that she had trouble talking about it.
“When you ask me where my insecurities come from, pinpointing it with precision is something I can't quite do”, she confided.
In addition, the former coach of "The Voice" suffered so much from her complex that for a time she roughed up her body. According to her, she had done everything to lose weight and it ended up going wrong. And by dint of an anarchic diet repeatedly, her heart could no longer hold the shock and she ended up having a heart attack.
In June 2020, we remember her interview in “Tous en cuisine” with Cyril Lignac during which the singer confided the origin of her complex. According to what she recounted, it came to her after a loved one made harsh criticisms of her physique.
And if all her frustrations are now behind her, it is mainly thanks to her desire to become a mother.
"I've evolved. I look much more leniently on me (...) Of course, I am not a model, I do not have legs of 1.80 meters. But, as I get older, I feel like I have harvested the best ”, she explained in her documentary.

Lara Fabian confides in her biggest physical complexes
In the documentary Lara which is dedicated to her, the Belgian-Canadian singer made many personal confidences ... Among them: the insecurities linked to her physique.
Aged 50 (the occasion of a special tour called 50 World Tour) , Lara Fabian delivers herself with emotion in a documentary never before seen for Club Illico. The famous singer confides with emotion on the loss of her baby, her professional career and even ... her physical complexes. Interviewed by Radio-Canada , the interpreter of Je t'aime was questioned at length on this aspect. It was from journalist Kevin Sweet (to whom she confided an unexpected revelation relating to the #MeToo movement which particularly affects her, having also been a victim at least once of the inappropriate behavior of a man) that Lara Fabian has delivered. While he pointed out to her that alongside her multiple successes, the artist had a long period of "insecurities", the artist wanted to react. “When you ask me where my insecurities are coming from, pinpointing it precisely is something that I can't quite do. Because, although I understood part of that source, from its origins, I did not understand the resonance that it has through all these years" she admits at first.
Physical complexes at the origin of many periods of yo-yo
Lara Fabian has been so self-conscious about some of her physical characteristics that it has earned her many yo-yos with her weight throughout her career. Physical insecurities, but not only. "My insecurities, in the end, they're not just in the sense of my physical appearance. It's still a little deeper than just I find my legs short and then droopy eyelids. It's not just that. They were often my great teachers, my insecurities, over time, they rather guided me towards the best of me", she concludes. Touching confidences, which prove once again that the life of an artist is not (always) a long calm river!
------------------------------------------
In the past Lara said her first insecurity arose when she went to ballet school, and the teacher criticized the “size of her thighs”. That led to Lara routinely wearing outfits that covered her legs when performing. She also has indicated she suffered from anorexia (an unfortunately common disorder which, for example, affects 1% of all American women). This may have been encouraged by an undiagnosed celiac condition – which she is now aware of, and so avoids gluten. As Lara now says, she has reached the stage where she is "perfectly satisfied being who she is". [There may actually have been more about this in the documentary, but the one thing that Lara apparently asked them to minimize a bit was her self-criticism].
[BTW, the “Lara” documentary video is still available on the Russian ‘Connecting people’ website, at yadi.sk/d/AThthB9sAdbb9g].
In other news, the Lara Fabian Multimedia site added a digitally enhanced version of the ever popular “La Solitudine” with Lara and Laura Pausini from 2002 (in Rome), available at

Coincidentally, in the past week “L’univers de Lara Fabian” FB site posted Lara’s video with Gigi D'alessio of “Un Cuore Malato” from 2007 (in San Remo) and 2008, once again expertly combining two performances, at

It’s not as if Lara does duets with Italian singers on Italian songs in Italy every day…it’s hard to think of any others that meet those requirements, certainly none as popular. What must be one of the great regrets of Lara’s life is that she has not been able to generate a career in Italy (a subject that could have been covered in depth in the documentary when they went to Sicily). She has tried various times; you may remember that once she wanted to release an album of her songs in Italian, songs co-written with Rick Allison. To do so she needed his agreement. He refused, because he said she wouldn’t work with him on the project, wanting to make all the decisions herself. But the real problem, as she has noted from time to time, is that the recording industry in Italy is very insular, and would require things like turning over the copyright of her songs to them. After what she went through with Sony to get her copyrights back, she has said she would never do that again. So in her ‘native’ country, on the border of France, she is as much a stranger as she is in the U.S., more so in fact (although perhaps not in name recognition), for (to the best of my knowledge) she has never given a full concert in Italy. Weird.
Interesting photo(s) of the week: perhaps the ‘best of the year’ are the ‘femme actuelle’ pictures of Lara over the years, available at:

Wonderful collection!
Lara is presumably working on the same things noted last week: her job as ‘director’ for the Star Academie, and (perhaps) the ‘confinement’ album with “mantra-like” songs. And enjoying her family. It is fortunate that she won’t be having to go to France (or Belgium) for any ‘Voice’ activities, for as you may be aware, both countries have now entered “re-confinement” due to the spread of the Covid19 virus. In Quebec itself, the coronavirus hospitalizations rose last week and the province reported 952 new cases, with 18 more deaths last Friday. With the colder weather coming, it is braced for a further increase. Stay safe everybody!
