The big news this week was Lara’s announcement concerning the next season of “The Voice – la plus belle voix”. She provided it on her Facebook site and also on her Instagram site, in conjunction with her picture, at
Here’s the translated text:
------------------------------
My adventure @ thevoice_tf1 was a real joy, an opportunity to do what I perhaps love the most about my job: transmit and support.
The shootings were intense in emotion and in human and artistic discoveries ...
I spent incredible moments with my friends @amelbent, @marclavoineofficiel and @pascalobispo, all under the benevolence of the adorable @nikosaliagas and the professional teams of @itvstudiosfr, @matthieugrelier, @pascalguix @raniabedia and all the technicians who work to make this musical show one of the most beautiful on French television, without forgetting @olivierschultheis and his extraordinarily gifted musicians ...
Unfortunately, this year I could not be part of the coaches and find my red chair, the health situation being particularly cloudy and unpredictable, I made the decision to stay in Quebec so as not to endanger the filmings if the situation that we are going through had to get worse and prevent me from meeting my commitments ...
Other projects are underway, and I will be sure to get back to you to keep you informed in due course so that we keep our connection ... so precious ...
I wish a good season to @amelbent, @marclavoineofficiel, @pagny_officiel and @vianneymusique ... who will be those 4 a sublime quartet to discover the talents of tomorrow, and I will look with pleasure at those who will present themselves to us for the 10th season ... I kiss you very hard ... 💕💕💕
-------------------------------
This seems a reasonable decision given the circumstances – and the reality that she couldn’t even be present for the last live shows from last season. At the moment there would be no problem in flying to France – as her upcoming concerts might indicate – though she would have to quarantine herself when getting back to Quebec each time she went (and there would be numerous times). But, as will be discussed more below, things are getting worse in France, and who knows, as Lara said, what the situation will be like in the late fall, winter and spring, when the show was being recorded. All in all, a good experience for Lara, re-introducing herself (once again) to the French audience, as she did with “La Voix” when she returned to Quebec. And since ‘La Voix” will no longer be broadcast in Quebec, there’s no chance of her rejoining that show either. “Other projects are underway”, as she said, recognizing that without a TV audience Lara will have to work harder to keep herself relevant, for both the Quebec and French audiences.
As this indicates, there will be a new quartet of judges on ‘The Voice – la plus belle voix’. Here’s one translated article discussing it ( www.20minutes.fr/arts-stars/television/2845383-20200824-the-voice-vianney-va-faire-partie-jury-saison-10):
------------------------
"The Voice": Vianney will be part of the jury for season 10
Xavier Gandon, director of the TF1 group's TV and digital channels, unveiled the composition of the jury for season 10 of "The Voice"
A new quartet of coaches for season 10 of The Voice . If Amel Bent and Marc Lavoine re-emerge, Pascal Obispo and Lara Fabian leave their red chairs.
To replace them, Xavier Gandon, director of TV and digital antennas of the TF1 group, announced in an interview with our colleagues from Ozap, that the singer Vianney was going to be part of the jury for season 10.
This season 10 will also be that of the great return of Florent Pagny, who has already served as coach from season 1 to season 7.
Pascal Obispo left a message
Pascal Obispo, meanwhile, leaves his chair. At midday, the singer of Millésime tweeted that "the adventure of The Voice has been great, both emotionally and professionally." He describes his meeting with Abi, the winner of the last season who was part of his team, "pure gift, enriching and precious".
Who from Amel Bent, Marc Lavoine, Vianney or Florent Pagny will find the most beautiful voice? Response in 2021 on TF1.
-----------------------------------------
Maybe the article was written before Lara's notice, or maybe they didn't want to emphasize the coronavirus as her stated reason for leaving. The situation looks a little more complicated when one reads the article referred to above, in Ozap (https://www.ozap.com/actu/-the-voice-vianney-arrive-florent-pagny-revient-amel-bent-et-marc-lavoine-confirmes/596194):
------------------------------------------
"The Voice": Vianney arrives, Florent Pagny returns, Amel Bent and Marc Lavoine confirmed
Pascal Obispo and Lara Fabian for their part are leaving their red armchair.
Info puremedias.com. "The Voice" reviews its copy. According to our information, while season 10 has been signed, the quartet of coaches will evolve. Thus, Amel Bent and Marc Lavoine will be back for their second season in the red armchairs. But as for their spring 2020 buddies, they will hang up since neither Pascal Obispo - who was in his second participation in the program - nor Lara Fabian, a little newcomer, will be there.
To replace them, TF1 and the producer ITV Studios France called on a newcomer and a comeback. Thus, viewers will discover the first steps in Vianney's program. Good news for the chain as for the production which coveted the interpreter of "Pas la" and "Je m’en vais" for several seasons. And alongside Vianney, Marc Lavoine and Amel Bent, this season 10 of "The Voice" will be that of Florent Pagny's great return. The emblematic coach of seasons 1 to 7, victorious with Stéphan Rizon and Slimane, is therefore back in "The Voice" ... as he had already announced.
Indeed, in June 2019, guest of "Laissez-vous tenter" on RTL, Florent Pagny had indicated that he wanted to return to the program for this tenth edition. "I told them that I will be back for my 60th birthday so it's okay, it's 2021. (...) Everyone was saying 'So' The Voice '? So the tour?' I said 'Wait a minute. I just finished! ' I will come back for my 60th birthday and my 60th birthday, it's 2021", he said at the time. It remains to be seen whether these changes will succeed in continuing the good momentum recorded last season - except for the two-month break imposed by confinement.
----------------------------------
So back in June it was known that Florent Pagny would likely be returning to The Voice in 2021. It also sounds as if they had been interested in having Vianney join for several years. If Lara had wanted to return, would they have asked her (or did they ask her?). It’s true that the coaches are now 3 men and 1 woman, probably not their ideal gender distribution, which would have favored keeping Lara. And as indicated below, the show was deemed successful with her in it – here is an article from a few months ago (https://www.nouveautes-tele.com/136856-the-voice-tf1-des-resultats-tres-positifs-le-samedi-soir.html):
-------------------------------------
The success of The Voice: a strong brand for TF1
The Voice 2021 is back for season 10 on TF1, it is no longer a mystery given the success of the reality TV show. Matthieu Grelier, director of programs and development ITV Studios France explains to Media + on June 5 that he is already actively working on the casting for the next season … and for the official renewal, it is traditionally TF1 that communicates. He reviews the excellent audiences of The Voice edition 2020: “This year we achieved, on average, 5.2 million viewers on D + 7 (up from 449,000 followers over 1 year). Even though the containment has had an effect on Total TV, it is not the only indicator. We are making progress on all criteria and all targets, even before the period."
If the semi-final of The Voice 9 could not be done at the Palais des sports due to the health crisis… there is no doubt that it is postponed for The Voice 2021 (season 10). Lara Fabian expresses her desire to return to The Voice but everything is in the hands of TF1. Will The Voice 2021 jury change? to be continued!
A TV performance study was unveiled by admo.tv at the end of April on the results of the reality show The Voice on TF1. Without taking into account The Voice audiences linked to the containment of covid-19.
Heloïse Fouquet who is lead media analyst at Admo.tv confides in the Media + letter "The Voice, TF1's big television brand on Saturday evenings, is very successful on commercial targets (15.4% of sales and 33% of of FRDA-50 years). The FRDA50s have a particular interest in distribution as household managers (+ 54% of spots around the show compared to the rest of the schedule).
The affinity between the program and the target allows a good CPV, whereas it is a program diffused on an expensive time slot ”.
------------------------------------------
Yes, at that point Lara had indicated in interviews a willingness to return, but she couldn’t have known the extent to which the virus would still be around as the fall approaches. In her current statement she’s reported it was her idea not to return, and we will probably never know anything different.
Lara’s explanation was not presented on TF1s URL for “The Voice – la plus belle voix” nor was it provided on their facebook site, when they made their announcement of the new judges. Perhaps they didn’t want to present it as a ‘loss’, but as a gain with the new people. Thus, most of the people reading about the four coaches did not know why Lara was no longer there. It was also interesting to read the reactions to the new lineup; as one person estimated, 96% of the responses were dismayed that Amel Bent was still there. Here are two such examples:
Vanessa Levy
The comments are unanimous, super great Florent's return but Amel, unbearable!
We don't know what she's doing here
I hope the production will read all the comments and thus they will change their minds and replace Amel because she is not at all in her place.
She's just good for kids. [She was on The Voice Kids before the adult show].
Please replace her!
Sandra Thévenoux
Lara instead of Amel and it was perfect!!

There were a few suggestions that the dislike for Amel was racist, but it did appear people felt she was annoying, and didn’t understand how to be a coach or panelist. A number writing in said they would not watch the show as long as she was on it. On the other hand, the majority who commented were sad to see Lara no longer there – as one person said, she has great expertise, is an international star, has a wonderful voice and showed great empathy for the candidates.
In other news, in contrast to all the exercise pictures/videos Lara has been providing, to start this week, Lara gave herself a well-deserved little treat:
along with this explanatory caption: “Small photo taken yesterday, a little Sunday rest after a good sporting week ... and reward a good cake by me thanks to the delicious gluten-free flour from @lulubelle_co ... just a treat!”
Lara’s concerts in France are set to resume in 10 days. Presumably she is taking the opportunity now to rehearse and prepare with other members of her musical team. As to what the situation will be like when she leaves and gets there, here is our usual update on the current situation:
Quebec: "Over the past week there have been about 490 news cases, and in the past 24 hours 68 new cases; 2 deaths have occurred in the past 24 hours, to which is added 1 death which occurred between August 17 and August 22 and another one which occurred before August 17; the number of hospitalizations decreased by 2 compared to the previous day." The situation therefore appears stable, and while the virus has certainly not gone away, the reopening of all activity sectors that has taken place has not led to a big uptake in new infections. Overall a good situation, especially compared to their neighbor to the south .
And here are the rules with respect to indoor events, such as concerts:
Promoters who organize indoor activities must ensure compliance with all instructions concerning gatherings in indoor public spaces:
**control entrances and exits;
**always ensure that the number of people present does not exceed 250;
**make mandatory the use of face coverings for everyone 12 years of age and over;
**promote the maintenance of a distance of:
2 metres between participants when they are standing up;
1.5 metres between participants when they are seated in auditoriums or film theatres, except for individuals from the same household.
**Seated spectators can remove their masks or face coverings but must put them on when moving around.
**The situation is changing from day to day. For the time being, it is impossible to foresee what will happen in the fall or winter. It is also hard to predict when bigger gatherings will be authorized.
So obviously Lara could not hold her 50 World Tour concert in Quebec at this time, it wouldn’t be financially practical. Perhaps the situation will change before her concerts in that province set for December.
As for going to France, it is allowed from Quebec, and allowed from France. However, after returning to Quebec she must quarantine herself for 14 days – with a whole list of the necessary instructions given at www.quebec.ca/en/health/health-issues/a-z/2019-coronavirus/instructions-for-travellers-covid19/#c58168).
France: 4,897 new cases were reported on Sunday, the highest daily level since the end of the two-month lockdown in May. The infections were essentially happening among 20 to 40-year olds at parties, but cases among older people were starting to rise too. Despite this, health minister Olivier Veran indicated there would not be a total lockdown in France. And the death toll was not rising – in the past 24 hours there was just one more recorded death, three more people registered in intensive care, while the number of people in hospitals declined by 2 from the previous day (to 4,709).
As indicated in last week’s update, Lara will be able to give her concerts in France, and starting September 1 there is no limit on how many people can attend (i.e., it can be more than 5000). Nevertheless, Paris is now in the “virus circulation active area” as described below (sortiraparis.com/news/coronavirus/articles/211802-coronavirus-in-france-the-situation-on-monday-august-24/lang/en):
---------------------------
Paris in “virus circulation’s active area”: what changes?
Paris and Bouches-du-Rhône now are “virus circulation’s active area” since Friday August 14, 2020. In concrete words, it means that prefects of these departments can make local calls to limit the spread of the epidemic. Closing schools, closing public places, limiting trips, or even limiting gatherings, are measures they can implement.
---------------------------
So the situation certainly bears watching, but tickets are still being sold for her concerts, and there is no indication she is not going through with them.
Lara also has a concert scheduled for Geneva on September 6th and it is sold out. Nevertheless, here are the official rules for Switzerland:
Switzerland: Switzerland's Federal Council has increased the maximum number of people allowed to attend indoor public gatherings from 300 to 1,000 with no social distancing, according to a government site. The decision, which applies to concert halls, theaters and cinemas, does contain some limitations aimed at slowing the spread of COVID-19. In cases where the attendance exceeds 300 people, audiences will have to be separated by partitions or rooms holding up to 300. Events with more than 1,000 people remain banned until at least August 31st, 2020.
So either Lara’s concert has less than 1000 tickets sold, or the restriction will not be in effect past August 31st.
Therefore with 10 days left, all signs point to Lara giving her concerts in France and Switzerland, then perhaps taking time to visit her father in Belgium. It will not be without risk, for either her audience or herself, but it seems to have developed its own momentum through the ticket sales and there’s nothing (yet) in the way to prevent them.

As unlikely now as we think it will be, if Lara is going to cancel her upcoming concerts in France, this coming week will be her last chance to do it. Otherwise, assuming that is not happening, she will presumably spend her time getting ready for them. It will be good for her morale to get back on stage (and hopefully, OK for health as well), and her fans will GREATLY enjoy it. Let’s hope it all happens.
