As expected, all of Lara’s upcoming concerts were ‘postponed’, and they now all have new dates in September. Her team started with this statement:
“Following the announcement of the Minister of Health preventing the assemblage of more than 1000 people, the dates of the 50 World Tour expected for the month of March in Lyons, Marseille, Geneva, Le Cannet and Paris will be postponed and now cancelled.”
That was then followed by this:
------------------------------
After the announcement of the postponed French Tour, we have now managed to reschedule these dates.
However, we will now also have to reschedule the dates for Moldova and Odessa that were due to happen this week.
We are so sorry for any inconvenience during this turbulent time.
Here are the new dates:
French shows :
- Le cannet September 4
- Lyon September 5
- Genève September 6
- Marseille September 8
- Paris September 10 and 11
Ukraine & Moldova shows:
- Odessa September 27 and 28
- Chisinau September 30
I look forward to coming and performing for you all soon....
Take care ...
Love
-------------------------
And then, following that, there was this for the shows in Quebec:
-----------------------------
Dear friends of Quebec,
I was looking forward to seeing you again on stage, we'll have to wait longer for these appointments.
Take good care of yourself,
Lara

COVID-19 | Quebec concert dates
The performances scheduled for April 1st and 2nd at the Wilfrid-Pelletier Theatre of Place des Arts de Montréal are postponed until June 19 and 20, 2020. The performance scheduled at the Centre Vidéotron de Québec on 4 April is postponed to Sunday, June 21, 2020.
Ticket holders for these shows are asked to store their tickets and do not communicate, at this time, with the office of the theaters concerned; these are currently responding to a critical mass of calls. Ticket offices will be in touch with customers over the next few days.
------------------------------------
Lara then posted a very appropriate picture,
We'll see whether activities really will resume in June...
What’s more: today Lara also postponed the release of Papillon(s); here’s her statement:
“Following the announcements of the authorities related to the fight against the Covid-19, I inform you that we are postponing the physical and digital release of the album "Papillon( s )" originally scheduled for next March 20.
I wish to offer you a beautiful outing, serene and peaceful, around which we can find ourselves in beautiful shows in order to share this project together... But now it is time to take our responsibility in the face of this epidemic, it is essential to protect us and preserve those we love by respecting the barriers and instructions of the authorities.
In the meantime, I ask you to take care of yourself... to be patient and supportive... And of course we keep the link here...
I kiss you very much
Love
Lara”

Prior to all that, Lara posted a video to promote the release of Papillon(s) (which presumably will occur at some point). It can be found at:
She discusses the creation of the album during winter break a year and a half ago (most of which is known to us). Lara had 8 days off between her tour and recording of La Voix, and so she asked Moh Denebi and Sharon Vaugn come to Quebec to see what they might do together. They played around and came up with the central concept of the album, and within the space of those 8 days they had 7 or 8 songs written. Some time later, in the space of some 4 days, they wrote 3 or 4 more songs – so in total, it took just 11 days. To record it, Moh Denebi asked Lara to sing as if she were doing a live show (with the audience just him and Gabriel), and it took one night. Lara said it was free of the ‘over intellectualization’ which gets in the way of the music; she feels it was a “small miracle”.
As noted above, the album release is now postponed. When it does become available, hopefully that will include outlets in the States and elsewhere; in the run-up to this (now non-release), it was not and therefore would have had to be gotten from one of the French websites (e.g., in digital from amazon.fr, as a cd from FNAC).
The one entertainment involving Lara that has not been restricted is of course The Voice on TF1, which was pre-recorded before the virus made its appearance. First a correction from last week: in the battle between Rita and Melodie, it was mistakenly written that Melodie had won, when actually it was Rita (who I thought should have won, and the decision had seemed puzzling). This has added resonance, because Melodie strongly disagreed with the verdict, and said so to the press (https://www.programme-tv.net/news/evenement/the-voice-9/250984-the-voice-2020-une-candidate-eliminee-aux-battles-par-amel-bent-sen-prend-violemment-a-son-ancienne-coach/), as translated below:
-----------------------------------
The Voice 2020: a candidate eliminated in battles by Amel Bent violently attacks her former coach
In an interview, a candidate of The Voice 2020 eliminated last Saturday during the first battles of season 9 attacks her former coach Amel Bent. And they clash strongly ...
"Annoying," tiring "," aggressive ... ": Amel Bent, a new coach of The Voice who divides!
Elimination that does not pass! Saturday March 7, TF1 offered the first episode of The Voice 2020 Battles . During the evening, Marc Lavoine , Pascal Obispo , Lara Fabian and Amel Bent brought together the talents they had selected during the blind auditions. During the evening, the youngest of the coaches took the risk of opposing two singers from her team, Rita Kassi and Mélodie Delabarre on the hit 'Back to Black' by Amy Winehouse . After their performance, Amel Bent chose to take Rita Kassi further into the adventure. A choice that remained stuck in the throat of Mélodie Delabarre who decided to shoot red bullets at her former coach.
"Get me out by a wedding singer, I have the balls ..."
"I had no explanation from Amel Bent, neither on the set nor in private”, she criticizes her in an interview with the magazine people Public. I don't want to play the bad loser but I don't know if Amel really has a place as a coach (...) I think I had neither the right coach nor the right opponent. I did not really understand her choice to put us in competition". Because Mélodie Delabarre goes further and tackles her "rival" during the battle. "Get me out by a wedding singer, I have the balls”, criticizes the Tahitian. “Rita is more about mimicry, superficiality and I really tried to interpret the song. I felt more accomplished than Rita". Not very fair play all that.
--------------------------------------------
Again, it seemed the right decision to me for this song, but her point that this was not a good song for her is also well taken. Her general point that Amel does not make good choices has some validity, as illustrated by the first of this past week’s “battles”:
1) Mareva vs. Ryadh sing “Mon frere” of Maxime le Forestier
Mareva has a beautiful voice with much vibrato…Nevertheless, Amel chose Ryadh, which was a very odd decision.
www.tf1.fr/tf1/the-voice/videos/the-voice-2020-mareva-vs-ryadh-chantent-mon-frere-de-maxime-le-forestier-62824146.html
2) Emmanuel Obre vs Enso S sing “Who Wants to Live Forever” of Queen
Enzo S was sensational. Lara and Amel seemed to really enjoy him. Lara chose him.

The Voice 9: Lara Fabian plebiscites Enzo S.
The Lebanese artist wins his ticket for the K.O., the next stage of the French show "The Voice: la plus belle voix", broadcast on TF1.
A few weeks after his blind audition, Enzo Sabbagha was back tonight on the set of The Voice. For this second stage, the 24-year-old Lebanese artist fought a duel with the Marseilles-based Emmanuel Obré, also a member of Lara Fabian's team. The Belgian-Canadian coach that Enzo had chosen did not disappoint him. At the end of the duel, she decided to continue the adventure with him and eliminate his opponent.
"It's not easy," she confided, following their performance on Queen's "Who wants to live forever". It was magnificent; I'm proud of you. What you did tonight was exceptionally generous. But there are resonances that are sometimes stronger and at this moment, at this moment, my heart resonated absolutely with Enzo," she said.
Lara Fabian barely hid her enthusiasm for the young singer during the performance. She also made a point of saluting the work done during rehearsals, during which she had asked to "feel shivers", calling on Enzo to be more relaxed. "She's a technician, a magician. She can tell me exactly what she wants from me," Enzo added.
An almost unanimous jury
Although Pascal Obispo preferred not to give preference to one of the two talents, he made a point of reminding us that "few people can sing a Freddie Mercury song like that".
For his part, Marc Lavoine, the only coach who had not turned for Enzo during the auditions, said he would "go rather" to the Lebanese singer. "We saw two brothers singing together, thank you. I am very impressed," he added.
A total of seven talents from Lara's team will survive the Battles, and will face off in the knockout rounds, the last stage before the live bonuses. Next week, Matteo el-Khodr, another Lebanese candidate from season 9, will take on Quebec's Margau in a much-anticipated duel.
------------------------------------------
3) Hakob vs. Tirso Rafael sing “Chanter” of Florent Pagny
Very very similar voices, Hakob a bit more of a tenor. Pascal chose Hakob.
www.tf1.fr/tf1/the-voice/videos/the-voice-2020-hakob-vs-tirso-rafael-chantent-chanter-de-florent-pagny-11994478.html
4) Abi vs. Raimana sing”Un homme heureux” of William Sheller
Again very similar voices, Raimana a bit higher with a bit more energy. Pascal chose Abi.
www.tf1.fr/tf1/the-voice/videos/the-voice-2020-abi-vs-raimana-chantent-un-homme-heureux-de-william-sheller-14941816.html
5) Antony Trice vs Julian sing "With or without you" of U2
Julian had a more substantial voice, though again they were quite similar. Marc chose Antony, though the decision was not strongly supported (including by Lara).
Even Antony had doubts about it, as expressed in an article at (https://www.programme-tv.net/news/evenement/the-voice-9/250944-antony-trice-apres-sa-battle-ratee-dans-the-voice-je-sais-que-ma-qualification-pour-les-k-o-va-faire-jaser/).
However, the ‘highlight’ of this (and the show) was a disagreement about this duet between Lara and Pascal. An article about that can be found at (https://www.voici.fr/tele/the-voice-grosse-prise-de-bec-entre-lara-fabian-et-pascal-obispo-676450).And here’s the translation:
-------------------------
The Voice 9: big spat between Lara Fabian and Pascal Obispo
Tonight in The Voice, the tone rose between Lara Fabian and Pascal Obispo. The two coaches passionately debated the appropriateness of two talents from Marc Lavoine, Antony and Julian.
It was the highlight of this second session of battles, broadcast on March 14 on TF1. At the end of the duel between Antony Trice and Julian Deleria, Lara Fabian and Pascal Obispo disagreed. The two talents of Marc Lavoine sang ‘With Or Without You’ by U2. An interplanetary hit that Julian did not know and who did not smile at Antony either. At the end of the battle, all the coaches agreed that the two singers had barely missed. Yes but here, for Pascal Obispo, technical perfection is not everything and he was not shy to tell Lara Fabian. The singer of Je t'aime had just underlined the "falsehoods" by Julian and Antony, "something that cannot pass" Enough to make Pascal Obispo jump, who replied to his colleague: "Excuse me but when we sing on stage, extreme accuracy is not always enough for me". A lively debate between the two stars took place on the set of TF1, each remaining on their positions.
Lara Fabian fan of Pascal Obispo, she makes him a moving statement
Not enough to change your mind Marc Lavoine, who was once again touched by the fragility of Antony Trice, the candidate who tragically lost his sister . But between Lara Fabian and Pascal Obispo, things did not stop there. Following their spat, the Belgian-Canadian finally made ... a fiery declaration to the singer of Lucie : "Pascal I want to tell you something that is super important. You have this unfortunate tendency to say that you do not sing well or that you do not sing just and sometimes I have the impression that in the mirror, you protect yourself from things that make you feel guilty or that you convince yourself about yourself. I think you are a huge singer with a magnificent voice ”. Lara Fabian then confessed to her colleague that she had come to see him in concert and that she had been disturbed by his "incredible universe", but also by his unique voice. Which moved the husband of Julie Hantson .
----------------------------------------------
6) Michael Bucquet vs Kaël sing "Comme d’habitude" of Claude François
Very creative presentation from Marc’s team. Michael was a better performer, Kael had a better voice. Neither sang great. Marc chose Michael.
www.tf1.fr/tf1/the-voice/videos/the-voice-2020-michael-bucquet-vs-kael-chantent-comme-dhabitude-de-claude-francois-10056966.html
7) Gustine vs Maxyme sing "Symphony" of Clean Bandit ft. Zara Larsson
Lara’s team. Very creative, Justine starts with the harp, has an on-key fluttering voice. Maxyme (17 years old, from Quebec) moves very well. Lara chose Gustine, and Marc came up to congratulate her.

An article about this can be found at (https://www.music-covers-creations.com/en/the-voice-gustine-remporte-sa-battle-face-a-maxyme-et-nous-met-encore-les-frissons-video/)
Again, here’s the translation:
--------------------------
Gustine wins her battle against Maxyme and still sends shivers down our spine.
This battle will undoubtedly remain in the annals of "The Voice, la plus belle voix", so much it was a source of emotion, so much it was rich in intensity!
The current tonight was on TF1, between two free electrons, Gustine and Maxyme, the 16-year-old Quebec candidate.
In the Lara Fabian Team, they distinguished themselves on Clean Bandit's worldwide hit "Symphony" feat. Zara Larsson.
Gustine, with her voice and harp, literally magnified the song.
Maxyme brought out her boundless energy and vocal power.
Both were captivating to the max! The charisma and talent were there.
"Original, in symbiosis and totally enjoyable" is how the coach reacted.
"You've offered us something very rare" said Marc Lavoine.
The choice was complicated to say the least, but Lara Fabian finally decided.
And it is Gustine who continues the adventure, as the big favorite of the competition.
Gustine had appeared stressed during the preparation of this battle.
Gustine, 32 years old, alias Marine Bailleul, from Reims.
With her harp, she had covered, during her blind audition, one of the most beautiful songs of the French chanson: "Les Yeux Revolver".
The author and performer of this hit, composed by Fabrice Aboulker and released in 1985, now coach of the famous "reality show", couldn't resist the idea of doing a duet.
A magnificent duet whose preview broadcast on the networks had generated a real buzz and won the hearts of Internet users.
This duo had scared all the viewers away!
Once again, Gustine generated a lively emotion that hit the bull's eye, as it was once again acclaimed by the jury of the show presented by Nikos Aliagas.
-----------------------------------
Gustine was good, but not as exceptional as the article suggests (IMHO).
8) Toni vs Isilde sing "Toute la musique que j’aime" of Johnny Hallyday
Amel’s team. Great presentation, Toni a bit fuller voice, Isilde moves sensationally. Amel chose Toni, which is probably appropriate (and all the judges agreed), but it will be a shame not to see more of Isilde.
The battles were all quite good; and in most but not all cases, the more deserving singer won. Lara’s choices were pretty easy, and so far she has good candidates to go to the ‘knockout’ round. The ‘battles’ continue next week.
In another “Voice” related occurrence, there was an article in ‘Cine Tele Review’, the Belgian publication (https://www.cinetelerevue.be/actus/lara-fabian-je-vous-presente-mon-co-coach-dans-voice?read=true#more) in which Lara presented her ‘co-coach’ for the program. It’s translated below:
---------------------------------------------
Lara Fabian: "I Present to You My Co-coach in 'The Voice'"
Pierre-Yves Duchesne supports Lara Fabian both in "The Voice" and in her professional life
Pierre-Yves Duchesne opened his musical school in Paris fifteen years ago and plans to create a singing school in Belgium with Lara Fabian.
CTR: Pierre-Yves is not only your voice coach, he is also your co-coach in "The Voice", on TF1!
Lara: It's incredible. We're like slippers between the two of us. The first thing he brings to talent is the really technical aspect of the song. He can tell you that you were not breathing in the right place, that your back is crooked. He scans you, analyzes you, and then realigns you. And then, he is also an extraordinary guide for interpretation.
CTR: How long have you known each other?
Lara Fabian: A dozen years. I had just returned to live in Europe and I no longer had my singing teacher from Quebec. I was looking for someone experienced in classical technique as a vocal coach. And I was introduced to Pierre-Yves. I met a real character. While working with him, I wanted to perfect what I had learned since I was a child, but above all, I was in vocal distress, I had sung too much, and it was time to realign things. Pierre-Yves came into my life not only as a teacher, but also as a voice therapist. His technique is hyper-efficient, provided that you are diligent at the minimum
Pierre-Yves Duchesne: Lara is too modest. It's not just about being diligent, you have to be a vocal recovery stakhanovist. We have to tackle it daily. [NB: Stakhanovist referred to workers who modeled themselves after Alexey Stakhanov. These workers took pride in their ability to produce more than was required, by working harder and more efficiently].
Lara: Pierre-Yves is very clear on this. If you don't work for a week and a half, he calls you. He is demanding, but he knows my requirement too.
CTR: Isn't coaching a bit of a psychologist somewhere?
Lara: It can be. Pierre-Yves has the art of detecting in your voice if there is something: a worry, a fear, a pain. He is able to hear the problem beyond the vocal cords.
Pierre-Yves: I often tell my singers that the voice is the mirror of the soul. My motto is: "Sing, I will tell you who you are." It is not divination, just observation. I have been teaching for thirty-five years. A voice like that of Lara must be taken as a jewel, which must eventually be resized, very sparingly. But I act the same way with a celebrity as with Monsieur or Madame Tout-le-Monde. There are people who do not accept the truth and in these cases I cannot work. I had a huge international star and it lasted a quarter of an hour. She told me what I should tell her. It was not possible.
Lara: The truth is, the only element that allows you to move forward. Otherwise, we do not progress. When Pierre-Yves tells me that I have to do it this way and that it is not otherwise, I do it. At the start, it was not easy. But once you listen to it, the progress is felt quickly.
CTR: Did the fact that Pierre-Yves is Belgian help?
Lara: There is something about his cordiality, his good nature, his benevolence which is typically Belgian. We take things less in the head.
A Belgian success story
What a journey! Born in 1967 in Liège, Pierre-Yves Duchesne has risen through the ranks to become an authority in his field. "I studied at the Royal Conservatory of Liège," he reminds us. "Belgitude, I have it in me. I then arrived at the Paris Conservatory of Music, where I got the first prize." For ten years, he will thus go through the biggest lyrical stages, before turning more towards musicals. "I was the first French speaker to perform" The Phantom of the Opera "." Then, he ensures the vocal direction of the flagship musical shows of the moment. And, finally, in 2004, he created in Paris AICOM, the International Academy of musical comedy. A kind of French "Fame" where you learn singing, dancing and comedy. "We started with 25 students, we have 1,200 now! We've trained artists who sing and play all over the world all these years." At the same time, he provides vocal coaching for celebrities. Not only Lara Fabian, but also Amir or Agustín Galiana. "I've been working with Pierre-Yves for a year and a half", confides the latter. "His strength is that he's cash, he says things the way they are. That's what I like, because that's what makes me progress. All he says is for the good of my voice and my career."
However, this success did not make Pierre-Yves forget his roots. "I always have a heart that always draws from Belgium. We will also open something in Belgium in the years to come with Lara. It will be a school, we will teach singing there, but it will be different from what we do in Paris." In the meantime, Belgians can still register for AICOM. Many of them have already done so and it is likely to continue. Info: aicomparis.com

In fact, this is about the only professional thing in Lara’s world that will continue for the foreseeable future. However, At some point, later on in April and into May, The Voice will go live. Lara will need to be there, in France. Given that we have no idea what the situation will be like at that time, this is just one more unknown on a horizon that is filled with them. Nothing can be taken for granted; in fact those future live shows may well be postponed (certainly having a live audience may well be). But unless things exceed even the most dismal possibilities, the pre-recorded battles on The Voice will be broadcast next week. Stay well everybody, and good luck.
