Like in so many other areas, the COVID-19 virus has insinuated itself into even the discussion of Lara-related news, in this case her upcoming concerts. We’ve already wondered whether there will be problems with her two shows in the Ukraine (on March 13 and 14), and the one in Moldova on March 16th, due to her “not being paid for her international concerts”; but now the question arises concerning the major portion of her French tour, that was supposed to satisfy all of those fans who have been waiting to see her. There are five such concerts scheduled between March 18 and 25, in big halls such as L’’Olympia in Paris, L’Amphitéatre – Cité Internationale in Lyon, Le Cepac Silo in Marseille, La Palestre in Le Cannet – all of these have capacities of 2,000 seats or more. The trouble is, none of these may be allowed (thanks to Charles-James McCearney for bringing up this topic). Here’s a relevant article (https://www.france24.com/en/20200308-france-bans-gatherings-of-more-than-1-000-people-to-contain-coronavirus):

France bans gatherings of more than 1,000 people to contain coronavirus
Issued on: 08/03/2020 - 21:56
Modified: 08/03/2020 - 21:56
France on Sunday banned all gatherings of more than 1,000 people in a bid to curb the spread of the coronavirus as the death toll from the outbreak increased to 19 with 1,126 cases confirmed nationwide.
Following an emergency meeting led by French President Emmanuel Macron at the Élysée presidential palace, Health Minister Olivier Véran said the country’s coronavirus alert level remained at Stage 2, with the government focused on protecting citizens while responding with proportionate measures.
These included a ban on public gatherings of more 1,000 people. Protests, exams and public transportation could be exempt from the ban on large gatherings, because they are “useful to the life of the country", said Véran. “Prefects and ministries will come up with lists of events considered useful,” he added.
Véran also suggested that nationwide municipal elections, set for March 15, would carry on as scheduled.
Reporting from the Élysée palace after the emergency meeting, FRANCE 24’s Luke Shrago noted that authorities had issued “a message of reassurance” for the French people. “This is not a matter of trying to put people in quarantine, it’s really a matter of scientifically, when necessary, putting measures into place, a matter of proportionality, to keep life going while doing their best to limit the spread of COVID-19,” explained Shrago.
French authorities had earlier banned gatherings of more than 5,000 people in confined venues.
Véran also announced new measures to make telemedicine more flexible and available to the public by enabling patients to connect online or via video-link to doctors.
The new measure will have major consequences for sporting and entertainment events, with cancellations including a book fair and a tattoo salon.
Paris Saint-Germain's Ligue 1 game at Strasbourg on Saturday was postponed, as well as the women's Six Nations rugby showdown between Scotland and France.
"This evening we are still in the second stage, meaning that our priority is to do everything to slow the spread of the virus in our national territory," said Véran.
France on Sunday reported 1,126 coronavirus cases, up 19 percent from the day before, the second largest number of cases in Europe after Italy.
-------------------------------
It’s hard to imagine that Lara’s concerts would qualify as “useful to the life of the country” [though they very well may be!]. Of course there is a chance that this will be rescinded in the next week, but that seems highly unlikely.
Sure enough, in response, ‘Decibel Productions’, managing Lara’s tour (in France, at least) released the following statement:
“Following the bans on assemblies formulated by the Ministry of Health last night as part of the fight against the Coronavirus, we make our best efforts to inform you within 48 hours of the dates of postponements that could affect the tours of Alain Souchon, Christophe Mae, Lara Fabian and Peppa Pig ...”
Seeing what has happened with other artists, it wouldn’t be a surprise for Lara’s concerts to be postponed until September, but we’ll find out… Will she really be able to reschedule all of these concerts if they really are cancelled?
One other note: Lara also has a concert scheduled for Geneva, and the following was posted on the Lara Fabian web FB site by Martine Busset Lina: "For Geneva I don't know if she will be able to come because it's March 19th and our country has set rules because of the coronavirus (no gathering of more than 1000 people) and the room will be complete with 1350 people.” So it looks as if this one will be off as well.
On to a brighter note, a documentary is being done about Lara. She left the following statement on her facebook site:
---------------------------------------
This is the very first time there will be a documentary of this order about me. I have to admit, it made me laugh to think you might be interested, then I decided to trust the great talent and instinct of Jean-Philippe Dion. I've seen some images that have upset me in the course of a truth that I've never allowed myself, until now, on television. I felt myself a spectator of these extraordinary events experienced all over the world with you and the simple, beautiful or less pleasant moments that I have experienced and which I believe will make you realize that despite our lives that can sometimes seem to be at the opposite, in reality we all, in our own way, live the same quest.

Very intriguing! Jean-Philippe Dion is a Quebec TV host and producer, having been involved with a variety of programs on TV and radio, as well documentaries. He made his debut as producer of content on the documentary “Céline around the world” for which he followed her in many countries during the ‘Taking chances” world tour He is host of “La vrai nature” on TVA, a Quebec adaptation of the French show 'La parenthèse inattendue'. It sounds, from Lara’s comments, that it will not be a ‘puff’ piece, but a full look at her life and career. Fans wrote in on her web site asking when it would be broadcast, and whether it be available outside of Quebec, but there was no answer provided.
As expected, Lara was on the show "Ça finit bien la semaine" this past week. A short extract of the show, which is not available outside of Quebec, can be seen at
www.facebook.com/cafinitbienlasemaineTVA/videos/494055441228426/
Lara said the 50 World tour, with its number, is like a “freeze-frame” which is being provided, and one that makes her feel good.
Lara, for International Women’s Rights Day, had this to say:
“My message for women would be to stay faithful no matter what, to look at life not for what it could bring us but for what it includes and enter a huge space of harmony with what this life has to offer us. And first of all, what I wish for women is joy and inspiration."- #LaraFabian 💖
Associated with this, Lara was on a show celebrating “Super Nanas” (https://www.rtbf.be/vivacite/article/detail_lara-fabian-rend-un-bel-hommage-a-sa-maman?id=10449880&fbclid=IwAR3GRxuqj0f9HJLBd-eyaDSa8ss6fmil0UI2guOqV0vXkhA_Xpty8PHgXNw); a video is provided, as well as an article - here’s its translation:

Lara Fabian pays tribute to her mother
Almost a year after the disappearance of her mother, Lara Fabian wanted to honor her on the occasion of International Women's Rights Day.
Invited in "Super Nanas", the exceptional program of VivaCité which brings together Sara De Paduwa, Cathy Immelen, Ophélie Fontana and Fanny Jandrain this March 8, the singer sent a beautiful message to all women from Canada where she is currently.
"My message for women would be to remain faithful no matter what, to look at life not for what it could bring us but for what it entails and to enter a huge space of harmony with what this life has to offer us. And above all, what I wish for women is joy and inspiration", she expresses herself.
And the woman who inspires her the most is her mother, who died almost a year ago:
"She has been, for a lifetime, an example to follow, an inspiration in the sense of all that she has been able to transmit to me with so much love and so much patience."
It was on social networks that the artist announced her death in March 2019, revealing that it was "the most painful moment of all those [that she had] experienced to date."
A year later, it is only natural that she recognizes that resilience is one of the qualities that she values most in women. "What I like most about women is their immense ability to be resilient, to go through an ordeal with the courage it takes and to make difficulty sometimes an opportunity", on the air of "Super Nanas".

Now on to 'The Voice'.
The coaches opened the ‘battles’ with their own set of duets, a nice performance of “A ma place” from Axel Bauer and Zazie, that can be seen at:

Prior to the broadcast of the first of the ‘Battles’, Lara provided a video of which she said, “A little snippet of my coaching with Maria, Cheyenne and Amaury for the first episode of the Battles on Saturday in The VOICE... So glad to have them on my team... it will be very difficult to choose.... 💖” The video is available at:
www.facebook.com/larafabianofficial/videos/232773961090503/
Here's the transcript:
Lara: Cheyenne has a very very great voice. A very very great voice. That’s why I turned around during the blind audition.
Cheyenne: “I do not know how to make my voice, there, in truth, since I am afraid of making a chest voice and that it is really ugly.”
Lara: “But no, you're not going to give us a chest voice, up there. No but it is not necessary especially that you are going to do it for us, in your part, all alone.”
Cheyenne: “This piece is the opposite of the style I usually do so I find it hard to get on the tonality of the song.”
Lara: “I turned on Amaury in the blind auditions for the dimension of play that I heard in his voice, something a little unique. You, Amaury, it's going to be beautiful up there.
Amaury: “Huh”?
Lara: will it be beautiful for you?! “It’s high anyway.”
Lara: “Is it too high for you?”
Amaury: “Yeah, it's still super high. It is more difficult to find one’s place among a trio.”
So in this teaching segment, Lara showed us members of her team who were not happy with the song they were being asked to sing – interesting that she chose that!
Despite this...the highlight of the evening was the ‘trio’ that Lara was providing. It was made necessary because she only ended up with 13 members of her team. The trio of Cheyenne, Maria and Amaury sang “You Raise Me Up” from Secret Garden available at:
www.tf1.fr/tf1/the-voice/videos/the-voice-2020-cheyenne-vs-maria-vs-amaury-chantent-you-raise-me-up-de-secret-garden-battles-76930242.html
It was magnificent! with all three singers performing really well, and as you could see, the other judges came over to congratulate Lara, who could barely restrain her tears from flowing (once again!). As to what happened next, an article about it can be found at (https://www.telestar.fr/actu-tv/the-voice-2020-lara-fabian-change-les-regles-et-cree-une-premiere-dans-l-emissio-496728?fbclid=IwAR16_-HUVo7dwPj6sLHlXMJkhNv9bEO4qPjr7fpWrwRWUAHWu-MEKUjhzOM); here’s the translation:

The Voice 2020: Lara Fabian changes the rules and creates a first on the show
At the end of the first battle of her talents this Saturday March 7, Lara Fabian made a specific request which was granted to her by Nikos Aligas. According to our information, the regulations have not been changed. Decryption.
A dramatic twist on Saturday March 7 in the program The Voice. At the end of a first battle which saw a trio oppose (Maria Cuche, Cheyenne and Amaury), Lara Fabian asked to keep two candidates instead of one. And if this request dumbfounded her three fellow judges, Marc Lavoine, Pascal Obispo and Amel Bent, it was granted, as confirmed by Nikos Aliagas on set! The coach was therefore exceptionally entitled to one more talent and this for a simple reason: she had selected only 13 instead of 14 during the first phases of selection otherwise called blind auditions. Maria and Cheyenne were therefore both able to access the next stage of qualification for The Voice.
The rules have not been changed
At the start of the bonus, Lara Fabian's team was indeed made up of Sam Tallet, Maria, Romain, Cheyenn, Emmanuel Obé, Jimmy, Amaury, Nataly Vetrano, Gustine , Margau, Enzo S, Maxyme and Matteo: 13 talents. According to our information, the rules of The Voice have not been changed for this case, but an adjustment has been made so that the team of Lara Fabian can align with the same number of talents as the others coaches. A request that was a first on the show which is blowing out its 9th candle this year.
---------------------------------
And another (translated) article, this time from Charts in France (http://www.chartsinfrance.net/The-Voice/news-113106.html):
-----------------------------------------
"The Voice": Lara Fabian breaks the rules to save two candidates
Unprecedented sequence in the history of Battles of "The Voice"! Destabilized in her team with one less candidate than the other coaches, Lara Fabian decided to select two talents, Cheyenne and Maria, instead of one to continue the adventure.
"This season 2020, we will remember" proclaimed Nikos Aliagas on the set of "The Voice". And he was right! Since its start in January, the ninth season of TF1's flagship reality TV show has been rich in strong and moving sequences. As the show now begins the battles, it has resulted in a new memorable streak on Saturday night. Indeed, Lara Fabian found herself somewhat destabilized since her team had only 13 talents, against 14 for those of Marc Lavoine, Amel Bent and Pascal Obispo. Therefore, her first battle had to be organized in trio and not in duo as it is usually the case. For the occasion, the singer of "C'est la heure" decided to put in competition three flagship candidates of her team: Maria, the blind singer who had made her cry at the auditions, the atypical Amaury and the country girl Cheyenne to cover "You Raise Me Up" from Secret Garden.
"My task is unfair"
After an interpretation at the same time moving, powerful and poignant which also charmed the three other coaches, Lara Fabian decided to thwart the rules of the show. “Tonight, you really made us fly and dream. Thanks to all three, I'm so proud of you. Each of you is extremely unique and my task is unfair,” began the Belgian-Canadian singer, who seemed undecided in her choice. After having decided to continue the adventure with Cheyenne, Lara Fabian made an unprecedented decision in the history of reality TV: “Nikos, as you know, I ended up on one leg because all my comrades ended up with 14 talents, I only with 13, so I had to make a trio of one of my battles. So, in knockouts, I end up with six talents finally. If you allow me, I would like to take the right to have a seventh”. The production then gave its agreement so that Lara Fabian selects a second candidate “to be on the same level as the others”, as specified by Nikos Aliagas. A decision approved by Marc Lavoine, Pascal Obispo and Amel Bent. And it was finally Maria who was chosen second to continue the adventure, to the applause of a jury on the verge of tears. A nice story!

In other battles:
1)Yoann Dejean opposed la Rafa Mia Ensemble, singing ‘La fille du père Noël’ of Jacques Dutronc. A real interesting oddity in which you have a solo competing against a trio. They seemed like they could work together as a quartet! Marc chose Yoann (who was a fan of the song).

2)Rita vs Mélodie singing ‘Back to Black’ of Amy Winehouse
Rita had the higher voice, and sang better. The other judges felt she was better, but Amel chose Melodie.

3) Verushka vs Samson singing "Que je t’aime" of Johnny Hallyday
A coarse male voice, with strength, vs. a better female voice, with emotion – comes down to which voice does one like better. Verushka who already participated in The Voice in Africa was embarrassed by the lyrics of the song which she found a little obscene. Nevertheless, Pascal chose her.

4) Baby J vs Laure singing "C’est comme ça" of Rita Mitsouko
Very close, maybe Laure a little better voice. Pascal chose Baby J.

5) Sam Tallet vs Romain singing "Fan" of Pascal Obispo
Romain was a bit better IMHO. The two are actually friends. Neither was very good. Lara ended up keeping Sam.
www.tf1.fr/tf1/the-voice/videos/the-voice-2020-sam-tallet-vs-romain-chantent-fan-de-pascal-obispo-battles-61061134.html
6) Kevin Dozot and Antoine Delie singing “Nothing compares 2 you” of Sinead O’Connor.
Antoine maybe a little better. Antoine was the one who moved Marc to tears during the blind audition. Marc chose him.

7) Tom Rochet VS Alexia singing "Dusk Till Down" of Zayn feat. Sia
Both had strengths – too bad they had to meet in this round. Alexia, you may remember is the girlfriend of Sam, on Lara’s team. Amel chose Tom.

8) Don Pierre and Louise Combier singing “Dis-lui toi que je t’aime” of Vanessa Paradis.
Very close, similar voices. Marc chose Louise but cried at not choosing Don Pierre. He told him, “I ask you to forgive me. Call me I will always be there for you.”
www.tf1.fr/tf1/the-voice/videos/the-voice-2020-don-pierre-vs-louise-combier-chantent-dis-lui-toi-que-je-taime-de-vanessa-paradis-battles-57643144.html
A lot of these choices were close, and once again in at least some of the battles it seemed somewhat random who ended up the winner. Viewership continued to drop, 3.88 million viewers and 21.7% of the audience.
Interesting photo(s) of the week: Lara on the show “Ca finit bien la semaine” from the Lara Fabian Web site,

This coming weekend Lara’s concerts were to start up again, and they very well might, in Odessa and Chisinau (Moldova) – if Lara feels like flying and if the promoter in charge of those concerts is not the same as the one in charge of others in Eastern Europe/Western Asia. Otherwise, the following concerts in France are in real jeopardy, and most likely will be (at best) postponed. Five concerts (in France) and probably one in Geneva are a lot to reschedule. This also throws off the timing of these concerts meant to coincide with the re-release of Papillon (March 20th). Best laid plans… However, we can be pretty much assured that the (already recorded) second ‘battles’ on The Voice will be broadcast next Saturday. Lara hit a home run with one of her battles – we’ll see if she can do it again.

And another (translated) article, this time from Charts in France (http://www.chartsinfrance.net/The-Voice/news-113106.html):

A lot of these choices were close, and once again in at least some of the battles it seemed somewhat random who ended up the winner. Viewership continued to drop, 3.88 million viewers and 21.7% of the audience.
