Lara’s touring schedule went back to normal this past week, after the debacle of last week in Eastern Europe, because she was in France - and that apparently is being handled by someone else in a responsible manner. The concerts so far were Paris on the 5th, Caen on the 6th, and Nantes on the 9th. Definitely a relief for her to get back on stage rather than sitting in a hotel room, not going on because they're not being paid. And with her weekly appearances on The Voice (discussed below), she potentially has a lot of resonance between the people who come to her shows, and those who watch the program. A win-win for all involved.

Lara Fabian Raises the Paris Olympia
PARIS | Lara Fabian made a triumphant return Wednesday evening at the Paris Olympia, 17 years after giving her last show there, as part of her 50 World Tour . The Belgian singer delivered a vibrant biographical show, accompanied by three Quebecers, the Riverin sisters.
The Journal attended this new concert staged by Joël Legendre and presented in 50 cities around the world, which celebrates her 30 years of career and her 50th birthday anniversary.
In a city where she was "both worshiped and hated", Lara Fabian, who had been the subject of fierce criticism from the French for several years, has not performed at Olympia since 2003. Her return was expected: the hall was fully booked for a long time, as were the two other dates planned for the same place in March.
A show worthy of it
"This evening represents one more reopening to the wide open arms of the public," said Lara Fabian to the Journal , feverish and moved, a few hours before going on stage. "It’s a great gift to me.”
The concert in Paris was a milestone of her 50 World Tour, which began in New York on September 16 and that will stop the 1st and 2nd of April in Montreal and on April 4 in Quebec.
This new show, which brings together the most famous and beefy pieces of her repertoire, is judiciously structured so as to tell her life in four acts. Some of her hits are transformed into dancing songs like we have never heard them, while others are interpreted with a theatricality that tears us away from the emotions.
The one who called on a director for only the second time in her career finally finds herself with a show worthy of the artist she is and the voice she has. On stage, the vocal contribution of the Riverin sisters, three choristers from Saguenay, is felt every time they push the note.
Canceled shows
Lara Fabian has the wind in its sails. The singer made many packed rooms with this successful and acclaimed show around the world, including in Russia and the United States, in addition to being a coach at The Voice, in France.
However, a shadow darkens the picture. The singer canceled two shows last week, in Greece and Romania. The producer of her international tour (not the one in France) would simply not pay her for her shows. "To my great despair, I had to put my foot down," she told the Journal on Wednesday.
According to her, the problems have persisted since last March. There will be prosecution, says the singer, who refrains from going into details for a possible trial. "What is happening today is really the comet tail of a bad mooring of people I trusted," she commented.
Even if this story was often at the heart of discussions on Wednesday, it did not let unfortunate events spoil her pleasure to go back on the boards of the legendary Parisian hall.“I completely dissociate what happened from the luck I have to be here. Here I count my blessings and I don't knit my pains. It's finished. It's going to be a war, severe. But not tonight."
A CRAZY DAY WITH
The Journal had the privilege of following the star during the crazy day that preceded her return to the Paris Olympia. Here is our account of this behind-the-scenes visit, hour by hour.
2 p.m.
Lara Fabian joins her Quebec choristers, the Riverin sisters, her musical director Manu Pitois and her director Joël Legendre, at the Hôtel Les Jardins du Faubourg, in the 8th arrondissement of Paris, to share a dinner before the big evening. She takes news, discusses the latest shows. In this noisy place, the singer takes care not to speak too loud to preserve her voice. "It's a vocal homicide being here," she says, laughing. For dinner, she will have eaten ... only one egg.
2:45 p.m.
Lara Fabian retires for at least an hour in her hotel room, to clear the air before the evening. She will have, like "every day of (her) life", a session with her voice teacher, Pierre-Yves Dufresne. Wednesday, she will have some with him.
4.30 p.m.
After giving an interview in her car during the trip to the theater, Lara Fabian arrives at the Olympia. She takes the time to meet fans massed outside, under the famous marquise.
5:45 p.m.
Lara Fabian goes on stage for the sound test, after kissing her father who came from Belgium to attend this important date of the tour. In rehearsal, under the benevolent gaze of her singing teacher and her director who both tell her that she is not articulating enough, she sings the song in tribute to Maurane, her great lost friend. "The last time I sang it with her was here," she recalls with tears in her eyes.
8:40 p.m.
"She's ready," says her voice teacher Pierre-Yves Duchesne at the exit of her dressing room, five minutes before she goes on stage.
Midnight
Lara Fabian has still not left Olympia. She meets each of the guests who came for her. Beside her, her husband, Gabriel Di Giorgio, watched over her all day. "This is the first time he has come on tour with me," she says.

“We are living a dream”: the three Riverin sisters on a world tour with Lara Fabian
PARIS | When they were very young, they sang the choruses of “Je t’aime”, “Je suis malade” and “Humana”, in the family home. Tonight, it is on the stage of the legendary Paris Olympia that the three Riverin sisters, originally from Saguenay, will sing these songs again. And this time, with Lara Fabian.
Since September 16, the sisters Karine, Caroline and Marie-Ève Riverin have been singing on the biggest stages in the world as singers for the 50 World Tour of Lara Fabian. Met on Tuesday in Paris, halfway through this tour, Quebecers still couldn't get over having won this huge contract that will allow them to give more than 70 shows in 50 countries.
So far, they have performed in the United States, Russia, Israel and Belgium, among others. Hungary, Switzerland and Ukraine are also on the itinerary until June 2020.
"We are living a dream", marvels Marie-Ève Riverin. "We listened to it all our childhood. It’s a singer’s dream to be able to tour the world. And a sister's dream to travel the world together. It’s a huge gift Lara gives us."
The Riverine sisters have always sang together. As choristers, they have accompanied many Quebec artists, such as Ginette Reno, Nanette Workman and Bruno Pelletier. They have been singing for over 20 years in Quebec Issime productions.
A meeting at La Voix
At the same time, Karine Riverin is a real estate agent, and her sister Caroline owns a café. Marie-Ève has been responsible for vocal harmonies for three seasons at La Voix, in addition to having been a pre-hearing judge.
This is where she developed a bond with Lara Fabian. On the very last day of filming they had together last spring, the singer asked her if she would accompany her on a world tour. With her sisters.
"I was overturned," says Marie-Ève Riverin. "I asked her how she knew my sisters and she had done her research. She had seen the December show and had listened to our albums, and seen all of our performances available on the web.”
In the foreground
The singers of a show are often in the shade. Not this time. The Riverine sisters share the stage in the foreground with Lara Fabian and one musician, the Franco-Quebecer Manu Pitois.
"Lara wanted proximity with us," explains Marie-Ève Riverin. "Sometimes we feel like we're in a bubble, we are so close on stage. At first we were a bit uncomfortable.”
They sing on all the songs of the show.
"It's a very demanding vocal repertoire," says Karine Riverin. “We have to be really fit. Tour discipline is very important and Lara helped us a lot with that. For us, this is the first time that we have experienced all the time differences, the country changes. At first, we woke up very early to go visit, but we arrived almost exhausted at the show. We don't do that anymore!”
Looking forward to being in Quebec
If they still pinch themselves to make the Olympia, where the greatest of French singers have sung, the Riverin sisters also say they are eager to present the show at home.
Lara Fabian’s tour will stop in Quebec on April 1 and 2 in Montreal, as well as on April 4 at the Videotron Center.
“We often think about it. We can't wait to show all the work to our loved ones,” concludes Marie-Ève Riverin.

WORLD TOUR: A DIRECTION BY JOËL LEGENDRE
Lara Fabian called on the expertise of another Quebecer for her world tour. She entrusted the staging to Joël Legendre.
The two artists have known each other since the early 1990s.
"We met on a television set, I think it was Les demons du midi. We sympathized immediately. I saw all of her shows," recalled Joël Legendre, met on Tuesday in Paris.
While they were dining together last year, Lara Fabian asked him to get involved in the creation of her new tour. It was one of the first times in her career that she hired a director, she told him.
Intimate, but flamboyant
Lara Fabian wanted to revisit her entire career with this show and celebrate her 50th birthday. She was on stage on January 9, the evening of her 50th birthday.
"The goal was really to tell your life, like a biography," explains the man who has been directing for 15 years. "I came up with the idea of doing it in four acts. I was nervous because I had carte blanche, I was afraid that she didn't like my idea. But in the end, she was very moved.”
Lara Fabian wanted a very intimate setting. She is only accompanied by the Riverin sisters and her longtime accomplice, the Quebecer of French origin Manu Pitois, who reworked her greatest successes.
“She makes big rooms, so we had to find a way that the show was flamboyant while being intimate. We used a London company for the video projections.”

ENTERTAINMENT UPDATE: Singer Lara Fabian cancels Bucharest concert hours before start over lack of payment
Singer Lara Fabian, who was due to perform in Bucharest on February 3, canceled her concert a few hours before the scheduled start hour. In a Facebook post, the singer explained that she cannot go on performing without being paid.
UPDATE: The organizers of the event, International Creative Talents SRL, said they will file a lawsuit for the false claims that she was not paid, Digi24.ro reported.
The organizers said they prepared the concert to the very last detail, and that most of the tickets were sold. They say the artist decided to leave the concert venue around 16:00 in the afternoon and head for the airport, without discussing this with any representative of the organizers and without offering an explanation.
The singer explained that the show was canceled because of circumstances “independent of her will” and that the person who was supposed to pay for the shows was unable to do so.
“I can’t accept to remain blind to such abuse, nor can I continue to perform, when I obviously have to pay all of my crew and concert expenses, without being paid myself to cover it all. It’s just such a horrible situation. I’ve tried to keep going, hoping it would all sort itself out but it’s only gotten worse and regrettably we have now been put in a situation that I can’t go on. This has caused me enormous pain and stress over the last few months, to the point I have been so ill I physically could not perform the last time I came to Bucharest in December,” she explained.
The singer said she cannot tolerate the situation and will make use of all “legal means” to be able to return to Bucharest as soon as possible.
“Bucharest, I promise you, soon I will sing again for you ...And yes, we will celebrate music and love together in the joy that binds us.”
Fabian was due to perform at Sala Palatului as part of her 50 World Tour, promoting her 14th studio album Papillon.
Initially, the concert should have taken place in November 2019 but it was rescheduled for February of this year because of some health issues of the artist.

So we now know the ‘organizers’ who Lara has in her sights, and who say they will file their own lawsuit. It would seem there has to be an answer to this – either she was paid or she wasn’t.
As for Lara’s participation in “The Voice – la plus belle voix” – episode 4. As usual, Lara posted a picture of herself prior to the show on her Instagram (and Facebook) sites,

(1) Melba (25) sang “Toxic” by Britney Spears. She has a strong, emotional, alto voice. Amel and Pascal turned around for her (in the ensuing discussion, Lara said nothing). Pascal thought she had “almost sung as well as Britney Spears”. Nevertheless, she chose Amel.

(3) Nataly Vetrano (53) sang “I’ll Never Love Again” by Lady Gaga. Her sister Lisa Angell who represented France in the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 (and did poorly) was on last year’s program, and so now Nataly decided to try her luck. She has worked in clubs a long time, singing since the age of 20; having failed to break through, she even joined a convent for two years. She has a good voice, and Pascal said that he only knew of three singers who could sing like that, Celine Dion, Lara and Maurane. That caused Lara to cry (and then Nataly as well). She chose Lara. So for the night Amel picked up 3 team members, Lara and Marc two each, and Pascal one. Overall, Lara has 9, Marc and Amel have 8, and Pascal has 7. It turns out that each team is ultimately composed of 14 members (not 12 as I had been assuming).
Some thoughts about this show (and the previous ones):
**Turning around first is a great commitment – you never know whether anyone else will turn, and so you will have this person on your team if that doesn’t happen. Thus you have to be sure. Lara often is not.
**The distinction between being chosen and not being chosen almost seems ‘karmic’; on many occasions the judges themselves are not sure why they haven’t turned around, and certainly the best voices are not necessarily chosen (even the ones showing emotion). More often it seems to be 'atmospheric' voices that beguile the judges. This is definitely not an exact science!
**The youngest candidates – 16, 17 – are never chosen. One wonders why the show keeps putting them forth.
**The show certainly does a good job of bringing in different ‘flavors’ of music, even if sometimes the judges don’t know what they would do with them. The judges were more open to that diversity on this particular night – maybe because as time goes on, the judges realize they have to add members to their team.
**The judges have become much friendlier with each other, as they’ve gotten candidates on their team and feel less pressured. So when Lara said (after the blind auditions) that the judges got along very well, that does (now) seem to be the case.

LF: Not at all. I was very much paralyzed by my insecurities, my doubts, my frailties. I never thought that one day my name would be at the top of the poster. I never imagined besides that success went hand in hand with [financial and popular] success. For me, success is to establish a lasting bond with its audience and to be able to last.
GALA: Do you always feel this insecurity?
LF: Yes, of course.
GALA: What is it that reassures you then?
LF: The benevolent gaze of people. When I'm told "You know, Lara, this song got me out of the rut.” My husband also reassures me. There are equally some members of my team, my family, my friends who have nothing to do with the world of showbiz. The same ones since I was 12-13 years old. We then took the bus together to go to music theory lessons. They have evolved, along with me. They are a programmer analyst, chemist, aikido teacher, pastry chef ... With them, I am and I remain Lara Crokaert. There is no mask.
GALA: To what extent has your job influenced your love life?
LF: Over time, this metier forces you to know yourself better, to find yourself in front of yourself and to make more relevant emotional choices, than when you are young and inexperienced. I met my husband very late, I was forty-two years old. As I got older, I managed to separate things from what I didn't want and what was right for me.
GALA: Who listens to your work first?
LF: It has evolved over time. At the beginning, it was my mom, who was very lucid, never complacent. she helped me a lot. Then there was Rick Allison [companion and debut producer]. We were both novices, really in symbiosis. Today is my husband. When he doesn't like it, he doesn't take off gloves to tell me. But I already know it by his way of moving his head. A small gesture that I know well.
GALA: Your daughter Lou has she an artistic fiber?
LF: Yes, but she doesn’t’ express herself through music, even if she plays the piano and sings very justly. It’s pastry which interests her. I found her internships for this summer and she is taking lessons outside of school. I find this great passion inspired.
GALA: And she joins you often on tour?
LF: She came to France for three weeks for the holidays at the end of the year. She was there when I celebrated my 50th birthday on stage in Brussels (January 9th). She left just after…
GALA: How do you approach your fifties?
LF: With a lot of joy, much serenity. I don’t have the sensation of having this age, neither in my body nor in my head. And I have no regrets. For me, success is not necessarily to get what you don't have, but to appreciate what you have.
GALA: After your fiftieth birthday, your family has therefore returned to Montreal where you live…
LF: Yes. Gabriel takes care of my daughter. He manages when I go on a trip for ten days. They cultivate a very beautiful relation the two of them. If my husband had continued to perform in public, someone would have had to take care of Lou. So we made choices. He designs his "stuff" at home, and sells it to other magicians. We have set up a laboratory, a workshop so that he can work out his numbers. It is a fairly large space where he can fly a horse or a piano! And we live near the school of Lou who goes there by bicycle or by bus.
GALA: Why have you chosen to live in Canada?
LF: I am a child of winter, I adore snow. I also had to settle down there when I became a juror there in La Voix. And then Lou wanted to stay in Montreal where she made lots of girlfriends and boy friends. For them, I am Lou's mother, nothing else. In her class, there are twenty-three different nationalities, but they all speak with a Quebec accent. There, everything goes without fuss, with much less ceremony than in Europe. One time, when I left the house, one of them said to me: "You are funny, you are not like on TV, you are normal after all!" Yes, I'm terribly normal.

The artist performed at the Olympia for the first time in 17 years
PARIS | Lara Fabian made a triumphant return Wednesday evening at the Paris Olympia, 17 years after giving her last show there, as part of her 50 World Tour . The Belgian singer delivered a vibrant biographical show, accompanied by three Quebecers, the Riverin sisters.
The Journal attended this new concert staged by Joël Legendre and presented in 50 cities around the world, which celebrates her 30 years of career and her 50th birthday anniversary.
In a city where she was "both worshiped and hated", Lara Fabian, who had been the subject of fierce criticism from the French for several years, has not performed at Olympia since 2003. Her return was expected: the hall was fully booked for a long time, as were the two other dates planned for the same place in March.
A show worthy of it
"This evening represents one more reopening to the wide open arms of the public," said Lara Fabian to the Journal , feverish and moved, a few hours before going on stage. "It’s a great gift to me.”
The concert in Paris was a milestone of her 50 World Tour, which began in New York on September 16 and that will stop the 1st and 2nd of April in Montreal and on April 4 in Quebec.
This new show, which brings together the most famous and beefy pieces of her repertoire, is judiciously structured so as to tell her life in four acts. Some of her hits are transformed into dancing songs like we have never heard them, while others are interpreted with a theatricality that tears us away from the emotions.
The one who called on a director for only the second time in her career finally finds herself with a show worthy of the artist she is and the voice she has. On stage, the vocal contribution of the Riverin sisters, three choristers from Saguenay, is felt every time they push the note.
Canceled shows
Lara Fabian has the wind in its sails. The singer made many packed rooms with this successful and acclaimed show around the world, including in Russia and the United States, in addition to being a coach at The Voice, in France.
However, a shadow darkens the picture. The singer canceled two shows last week, in Greece and Romania. The producer of her international tour (not the one in France) would simply not pay her for her shows. "To my great despair, I had to put my foot down," she told the Journal on Wednesday.
According to her, the problems have persisted since last March. There will be prosecution, says the singer, who refrains from going into details for a possible trial. "What is happening today is really the comet tail of a bad mooring of people I trusted," she commented.
Even if this story was often at the heart of discussions on Wednesday, it did not let unfortunate events spoil her pleasure to go back on the boards of the legendary Parisian hall.“I completely dissociate what happened from the luck I have to be here. Here I count my blessings and I don't knit my pains. It's finished. It's going to be a war, severe. But not tonight."
A CRAZY DAY WITH
The Journal had the privilege of following the star during the crazy day that preceded her return to the Paris Olympia. Here is our account of this behind-the-scenes visit, hour by hour.
2 p.m.
Lara Fabian joins her Quebec choristers, the Riverin sisters, her musical director Manu Pitois and her director Joël Legendre, at the Hôtel Les Jardins du Faubourg, in the 8th arrondissement of Paris, to share a dinner before the big evening. She takes news, discusses the latest shows. In this noisy place, the singer takes care not to speak too loud to preserve her voice. "It's a vocal homicide being here," she says, laughing. For dinner, she will have eaten ... only one egg.
2:45 p.m.
Lara Fabian retires for at least an hour in her hotel room, to clear the air before the evening. She will have, like "every day of (her) life", a session with her voice teacher, Pierre-Yves Dufresne. Wednesday, she will have some with him.
4.30 p.m.
After giving an interview in her car during the trip to the theater, Lara Fabian arrives at the Olympia. She takes the time to meet fans massed outside, under the famous marquise.
5:45 p.m.
Lara Fabian goes on stage for the sound test, after kissing her father who came from Belgium to attend this important date of the tour. In rehearsal, under the benevolent gaze of her singing teacher and her director who both tell her that she is not articulating enough, she sings the song in tribute to Maurane, her great lost friend. "The last time I sang it with her was here," she recalls with tears in her eyes.
8:40 p.m.
"She's ready," says her voice teacher Pierre-Yves Duchesne at the exit of her dressing room, five minutes before she goes on stage.
Midnight
Lara Fabian has still not left Olympia. She meets each of the guests who came for her. Beside her, her husband, Gabriel Di Giorgio, watched over her all day. "This is the first time he has come on tour with me," she says.

The Riverine sisters have always sang together. As choristers, they have accompanied many Quebec artists, such as Ginette Reno, Nanette Workman and Bruno Pelletier. They have been singing for over 20 years in Quebec Issime productions.
A meeting at La Voix
At the same time, Karine Riverin is a real estate agent, and her sister Caroline owns a café. Marie-Ève has been responsible for vocal harmonies for three seasons at La Voix, in addition to having been a pre-hearing judge.
This is where she developed a bond with Lara Fabian. On the very last day of filming they had together last spring, the singer asked her if she would accompany her on a world tour. With her sisters.
"I was overturned," says Marie-Ève Riverin. "I asked her how she knew my sisters and she had done her research. She had seen the December show and had listened to our albums, and seen all of our performances available on the web.”
In the foreground
The singers of a show are often in the shade. Not this time. The Riverine sisters share the stage in the foreground with Lara Fabian and one musician, the Franco-Quebecer Manu Pitois.
"Lara wanted proximity with us," explains Marie-Ève Riverin. "Sometimes we feel like we're in a bubble, we are so close on stage. At first we were a bit uncomfortable.”
They sing on all the songs of the show.
"It's a very demanding vocal repertoire," says Karine Riverin. “We have to be really fit. Tour discipline is very important and Lara helped us a lot with that. For us, this is the first time that we have experienced all the time differences, the country changes. At first, we woke up very early to go visit, but we arrived almost exhausted at the show. We don't do that anymore!”
Looking forward to being in Quebec
If they still pinch themselves to make the Olympia, where the greatest of French singers have sung, the Riverin sisters also say they are eager to present the show at home.
Lara Fabian’s tour will stop in Quebec on April 1 and 2 in Montreal, as well as on April 4 at the Videotron Center.
“We often think about it. We can't wait to show all the work to our loved ones,” concludes Marie-Ève Riverin.

WORLD TOUR: A DIRECTION BY JOËL LEGENDRE
Lara Fabian called on the expertise of another Quebecer for her world tour. She entrusted the staging to Joël Legendre.
The two artists have known each other since the early 1990s.
"We met on a television set, I think it was Les demons du midi. We sympathized immediately. I saw all of her shows," recalled Joël Legendre, met on Tuesday in Paris.
While they were dining together last year, Lara Fabian asked him to get involved in the creation of her new tour. It was one of the first times in her career that she hired a director, she told him.
Intimate, but flamboyant
Lara Fabian wanted to revisit her entire career with this show and celebrate her 50th birthday. She was on stage on January 9, the evening of her 50th birthday.
"The goal was really to tell your life, like a biography," explains the man who has been directing for 15 years. "I came up with the idea of doing it in four acts. I was nervous because I had carte blanche, I was afraid that she didn't like my idea. But in the end, she was very moved.”
Lara Fabian wanted a very intimate setting. She is only accompanied by the Riverin sisters and her longtime accomplice, the Quebecer of French origin Manu Pitois, who reworked her greatest successes.
“She makes big rooms, so we had to find a way that the show was flamboyant while being intimate. We used a London company for the video projections.”

ENTERTAINMENT UPDATE: Singer Lara Fabian cancels Bucharest concert hours before start over lack of payment
Singer Lara Fabian, who was due to perform in Bucharest on February 3, canceled her concert a few hours before the scheduled start hour. In a Facebook post, the singer explained that she cannot go on performing without being paid.
UPDATE: The organizers of the event, International Creative Talents SRL, said they will file a lawsuit for the false claims that she was not paid, Digi24.ro reported.
The organizers said they prepared the concert to the very last detail, and that most of the tickets were sold. They say the artist decided to leave the concert venue around 16:00 in the afternoon and head for the airport, without discussing this with any representative of the organizers and without offering an explanation.
The singer explained that the show was canceled because of circumstances “independent of her will” and that the person who was supposed to pay for the shows was unable to do so.
“I can’t accept to remain blind to such abuse, nor can I continue to perform, when I obviously have to pay all of my crew and concert expenses, without being paid myself to cover it all. It’s just such a horrible situation. I’ve tried to keep going, hoping it would all sort itself out but it’s only gotten worse and regrettably we have now been put in a situation that I can’t go on. This has caused me enormous pain and stress over the last few months, to the point I have been so ill I physically could not perform the last time I came to Bucharest in December,” she explained.
The singer said she cannot tolerate the situation and will make use of all “legal means” to be able to return to Bucharest as soon as possible.
“Bucharest, I promise you, soon I will sing again for you ...And yes, we will celebrate music and love together in the joy that binds us.”
Fabian was due to perform at Sala Palatului as part of her 50 World Tour, promoting her 14th studio album Papillon.
Initially, the concert should have taken place in November 2019 but it was rescheduled for February of this year because of some health issues of the artist.

So we now know the ‘organizers’ who Lara has in her sights, and who say they will file their own lawsuit. It would seem there has to be an answer to this – either she was paid or she wasn’t.

Her sister Lisa Angell who represented France in the Eurovision Song Contest 2015 (and did poorly) was on last year’s program, and so now Nataly decided to try her luck. She has worked in clubs a long time, singing since the age of 20; having failed to break through, she even joined a convent for two years. She has a good voice, and Pascal said that he only knew of three singers who could sing like that, Celine Dion, Lara and Maurane. That caused Lara to cry (and then Nataly as well). She chose Lara. So for the night Amel picked up 3 team members, Lara and Marc two each, and Pascal one. Overall, Lara has 9, Marc and Amel have 8, and Pascal has 7. It turns out that each team is ultimately composed of 14 members (not 12 as I had been assuming).
Some thoughts about this show (and the previous ones):
**Turning around first is a great commitment – you never know whether anyone else will turn, and so you will have this person on your team if that doesn’t happen. Thus you have to be sure. Lara often is not.
**The distinction between being chosen and not being chosen almost seems ‘karmic’; on many occasions the judges themselves are not sure why they haven’t turned around, and certainly the best voices are not necessarily chosen (even the ones showing emotion). More often it seems to be 'atmospheric' voices that beguile the judges. This is definitely not an exact science!
**The youngest candidates – 16, 17 – are never chosen. One wonders why the show keeps putting them forth.
**The show certainly does a good job of bringing in different ‘flavors’ of music, even if sometimes the judges don’t know what they would do with them. The judges were more open to that diversity on this particular night – maybe because as time goes on, the judges realize they have to add members to their team.
**The judges have become much friendlier with each other, as they’ve gotten candidates on their team and feel less pressured. So when Lara said (after the blind auditions) that the judges got along very well, that does (now) seem to be the case.
**Lara’s two additional team members at least seem to have good voices, in comparison to some of her earlier choices. She only turned around 3 times on this show, seeming to become more selective. In general she was somewhat less involved, with Amel and Pascal really dominating the show vocally.
The audience for the show was 4.96 million, up from 4.7 million the previous week. So it's holding up, with some 26.5% of the viewing public. In the public's eyes, the judges must be doing o.k.!

LF: Yes, of course.
GALA: What is it that reassures you then?
LF: The benevolent gaze of people. When I'm told "You know, Lara, this song got me out of the rut.” My husband also reassures me. There are equally some members of my team, my family, my friends who have nothing to do with the world of showbiz. The same ones since I was 12-13 years old. We then took the bus together to go to music theory lessons. They have evolved, along with me. They are a programmer analyst, chemist, aikido teacher, pastry chef ... With them, I am and I remain Lara Crokaert. There is no mask.
GALA: To what extent has your job influenced your love life?
LF: Over time, this metier forces you to know yourself better, to find yourself in front of yourself and to make more relevant emotional choices, than when you are young and inexperienced. I met my husband very late, I was forty-two years old. As I got older, I managed to separate things from what I didn't want and what was right for me.
GALA: Who listens to your work first?
LF: It has evolved over time. At the beginning, it was my mom, who was very lucid, never complacent. she helped me a lot. Then there was Rick Allison [companion and debut producer]. We were both novices, really in symbiosis. Today is my husband. When he doesn't like it, he doesn't take off gloves to tell me. But I already know it by his way of moving his head. A small gesture that I know well.
GALA: Your daughter Lou has she an artistic fiber?
LF: Yes, but she doesn’t’ express herself through music, even if she plays the piano and sings very justly. It’s pastry which interests her. I found her internships for this summer and she is taking lessons outside of school. I find this great passion inspired.
GALA: And she joins you often on tour?
LF: She came to France for three weeks for the holidays at the end of the year. She was there when I celebrated my 50th birthday on stage in Brussels (January 9th). She left just after…
GALA: How do you approach your fifties?
LF: With a lot of joy, much serenity. I don’t have the sensation of having this age, neither in my body nor in my head. And I have no regrets. For me, success is not necessarily to get what you don't have, but to appreciate what you have.
GALA: After your fiftieth birthday, your family has therefore returned to Montreal where you live…
LF: Yes. Gabriel takes care of my daughter. He manages when I go on a trip for ten days. They cultivate a very beautiful relation the two of them. If my husband had continued to perform in public, someone would have had to take care of Lou. So we made choices. He designs his "stuff" at home, and sells it to other magicians. We have set up a laboratory, a workshop so that he can work out his numbers. It is a fairly large space where he can fly a horse or a piano! And we live near the school of Lou who goes there by bicycle or by bus.
GALA: Why have you chosen to live in Canada?
LF: I am a child of winter, I adore snow. I also had to settle down there when I became a juror there in La Voix. And then Lou wanted to stay in Montreal where she made lots of girlfriends and boy friends. For them, I am Lou's mother, nothing else. In her class, there are twenty-three different nationalities, but they all speak with a Quebec accent. There, everything goes without fuss, with much less ceremony than in Europe. One time, when I left the house, one of them said to me: "You are funny, you are not like on TV, you are normal after all!" Yes, I'm terribly normal.
