The past intruded on the present this last week, partly because, with Lara on vacation, the present did not have much publicly going on. The true lead story was not even driven by her (and in fact if she knows about it, she probably disapproves of it). That involves the appearance of a hitherto embargoed video associated with the Mademoiselle Zhivago film, from 2012. But before we get to it, we’ll lead off with the very opposite emotional state, one of great positivity and love. As expected, Lara spent the past week on vacation in Sicily, which she noted in the picture posted on her FB site,

including the caption, “Summer walk in love... from my island I send you a thousand kisses... #Sicilia
A very nice summer interlude; as we know, once the 50 World Tour starts next month, she will have few uninterrupted time periods.
Occasional articles are appearing associated with specific dates on this tour. One such, for Israel, appeared at (https://fr.timesofisrael.com/lara-fabian-et-il-divo-en-concert-en-fin-dannee-en-israel/?fbclid=IwAR32TTvzdZs69yOXKF-8HYbhoRKB-hp_6B1-VwnZhwfF401d8lhA6Wz4qU0); here’s the translation:

Lara Fabian and Il Divo in concert at the end of the year in Israel
Lara Fabian will perform at the Menora Mivtachim Arena in Tel Aviv on December 14th, and Il Divo at the same location on October 26th.

Lara Fabian will perform at the Menora Mivtachim Arena in Tel Aviv on December 14th at 9pm.
The Belgian-Canadian singer will present her latest album, the fourteenth recorded in the studio, "Papillon", released earlier this year.
This new tour, "50 World Tour", will be the occasion to celebrate the fiftieth birthday of the singer and will take her to 50 cities around the world.
Her last visit to Israel dates back to 2015. At Eurovision 2010, Israeli singer Harel Skaat joined her on stage to perform together her hit "Parce que tu pars".
In 2012, she canceled her concerts in Lebanon after receiving threats because of her support for Israel during a concert in Paris celebrating the country's 60th birthday in 2008.
Samah Idriss, director of the "Campaign to boycott Israel's supporters in Lebanon", had said: "We have researched and verified some facts. She has already done so many things proving that she is involved in Zionism and supports Israel."
"I will not sing under the threats of which I am a victim ... I do not walk with hate ... I walk with tolerance, generosity and truth," said the singer, who has sold more than 20 million albums since the beginning of her career.
-------------------------------------
The article spent most of its time discussing Lara’s past problems with Lebanon, perhaps as a way to entice people to her concert, with just two sentences concerning what this concert will be about - not exactly Lara's stated 'modus operandi'. However, outside of presenting songs from Papillon, the concert is about the past, Lara’s career of nearly 30 years. And in a case of synchronicity, the article's last paragraphs dovetail with the new video made available by Alan Badoev about a past activity (and also, to some extent, is relevant to current events in the U.S.).
The ‘Lara Fabian est ton autre’ FB site provided a link to an article in which Alan Badoev returns to the subject of the ‘Mademoiselle Zhivago’ film. As we know, Lara had strong objections to it, and prohibited its theatrical release as an actual movie. The Badoev article (in Russian) can be found at (https://www.facebook.com/AlanBadoev.Director/photos/a.360918223932500/2649062295118070/?type=3&theater) . Here’s the (google) translation:

Six years have passed since the publication on the internet of the musical project #Mademoiselle Zhivago. And despite the very difficult fate of this work, I love it madly and thank the universe for giving me such experience and the opportunity to create like in a dream.
I am grateful to Igor Krutoi for inspiration, patience and of course boundless trust.
I sincerely admire Lara Fabian, exactly at the moment when I look at her through women's images, which she embodied from ‘novel’ to ‘novel’. She managed to play completely different women and dedicate beautiful songs to their fate.
But most of all I am grateful to the talented and dedicated people - to my team! Friends, you are real gold, I have the honor to know you.
We are starting the retrospective of #mademoisellezhivago. On my page www.instagram.com/alanbadoev/ you will be able to watch the novels in order, I will tell in detail about each of them.
On the page of #badoevteam on instagram we show how the project was created and tell a lot of interesting details of the shooting.
In my opinion, time has made many segments even sharper, in that for some things we managed to predict the events that today are our reality.
Enjoy watching, I'll wait for your thoughts.

One can see it has about 840,000 views, so it’s not been kept a secret. It actually got some positive reviews in the French press, even while Lara generally refused to discuss it. However, we also know that it was not the full movie – it comes in at 51 minutes, whereas when the movie was originally screened in Moscow it was over an hour in length. That’s because Lara subsequently objected to several of the filmed segments, which most people have never gotten to see. At least for one of those segments, and that might mean even others, this has now changed.
Badoev noted that he would post the videos/'novels' in the order in which they were meant to appear in the movie. The first five, ones we are familiar with, are indeed the first five of the film on youtube. The sixth is the previously unseen segment. Here are Badoev’s comments, links to each video (first his link on Instagram, and then from youtube), and also the song from the original Mademoiselle Zhivago album that is played during it.
(1) Toccami
Love Brings You to Your Knees?
Song: Toccami
------------------------------------
Mademoiselle Zhivago is built in such a way that the degree and pressure on the viewer is intensified with each following novella. At the beginning you are met with #TOCCAMI - the story of a Spanish whore who fell in love with her client.
I tried to present this story without deviating from the style of narration that my viewer is accustomed to. It is all about the passion, submission and sweetness of the close embrace, almost to death. This story should dissolve the viewer in beauty and activate the perception sensors that will be needed to dive into the following stories of the whole project.
--------------------------------------

2) The Same Karenin Family
Life is some kind of cage?
Song: Desperate Housewife
-----------------------------------------
What if life is a (prison) cell?... Anna Karenina is one of my desk books. I consider the internal monologues of the heroes to be textbook. Women's logic and a sense of the world of Karenina, her attitude to freedom and love, to the duties of a wife and mother, all this infinitely inspires me and helps to understand women in general.
Creating the idea of the novel “All the Same Karenins”, I was looking for a movie language that would squeeze the narration time and help me to combine the inner and outer sensations of the main character. We did not repeat the book, but created a similar model of the relationship between a woman, her husband and her lover ... Today I invite you to plunge into the second novel of the musical project.
------------------------------------------

3) The Family
Your Husband is your torturer?
Song: Llora
------------------------------------------------
What if the executioner is your husband? … The story of the third novel “The Family” was born thanks to the stories of Lara Fabian and the lyrics of the song. She dedicated this song to women who are exposed to violence in the family and cannot decide to take a step towards salvation. All suffer, all forgive. From such violence all over the world, a large number of women die or remain disabled.
Working on this topic, I was inspired by the Spanish cinema and aesthetics of old TV series, I deliberately simplified visual techniques, almost to the television, achieving realism.
--------------------------------------------------
www.youtube.com/watch?v=_wGrOWoPThc
4) Lou
Death is actually a liberation?
Song: Lou
-------------------------------------------------
What if death is liberation? ... The novella “Lullaby” was the first one I saw after listening to all the musical material of the album. It was the one that became the tuning fork of the whole project.
This shooting was very difficult for Lara, emotionally ... She came to the site and fell into a stupor, realism provided complete immersion and accordingly revealed fear. As a result, she brilliantly sagged her character from frame to frame.
Removing this novelty, I drove all the actors with logs and sand-filled sacks across the site for half a day, not letting them sit down, I wanted real fatigue and pain and despair in the eyes of the actors. Very much, especially the portraits, were shot by the method of observation, which allowed one to capture the real emotion.
This story is not about a concentration camp, it is about the possibility of a person being free even at the point of a revolver.
------------------------------------------------
5) Mademoiselle Hyde
The Price for Love is Life?
Song: Mademoiselle Hyde
----------------------------------------------
“Mademoiselle Hyde” is one of the most complex compositions from the album being filmed, I loved it from the first listen. In her so much dark passion, jealousy, the desire to possess and be forever.
I decided to tell a story about a man who falls in love with a female demon that he sees only in a dream ... And in order to get to sleep he uses the drug morphine, which gradually takes his life. A man knows that he will die, but he believes that the same Woman will wait for him on the other side of life ... And what could you give for love?...
-----------------------------------------------
6) Mother
Mother Gives Up Her Child
Song: Mama moya
-----------------------------------------------
The novel “Mama” opens up a series of three works in which we are talking about difficult topics, about which I simply cannot get past - terrorism, war, political responsibility.
In them, I do not express the only correct opinion, but argue and ask the question - “What if? ...” Mom is more than a word - it is an instinctive desire of a woman to continue and save her family. Mothers speak different languages and pray to different gods, but everything sweeps out and becomes the same when a child appears.
Mom is waiting for the first time she hears the voice of her child and only then the clock is moving again ... It was very hard both to create this novel psychologically and technically. In it, for the first time I lured the method of “staging” - according to the conditions of which only 15 actors out of 70 knew what would happen, the rest of the people perceived the event as an occurring fact.
With a few cameras, we recorded a terrible event in order to achieve a realistic impression.
Collecting material on the assembly table, I noticed such details that are not possible to play.
The action of this novel is not a reflection of documentary events, any similarities with real people are random.
--------------------------------------------------
This piece was missing from the movie's online youtube video (and so obviously has no individual youtube video, as of yet). In watching it, the first impression is that while very violent, it is no more so than a number of the other videos in this series, and, as was remarked at the time, Lara is clearly participating in it. However, note that Badoev says that when he “collected the materials” he noticed details that were “impossible to play”. Lara, in commenting in general about her attitude toward the film, said that they added things that were not part of the original shoot, and to which she, apparently, would not have agreed – though, at least in this case, what she obviously did act out is pretty extreme as it is.
7) Everland
Fear Makes You Perform Heroic Deeds
Song: Ever Ever Land
--------------------------------------
The short story "Fragility" continues my discussion of war and the incredible power of man.
In this story, the center of events is again the mother and her unborn child.
Very often, in real life, women perform miracles to save their or someone else’s child.
To emphasize this, in the realistic world of the short story, for a moment, I gave the heroine super power, an incredible opportunity, after which she again became a fragile woman.
In my opinion, women are super heroes, they give birth to a new life and this is a real miracle ... I wonder what it feels like to know your destiny from the very beginning of the journey? ... It is so unfortunate and very painful that much of this short story has now become a reality . War knocked on us. Will a miracle happen? I think so, if we can give our good.
-------------------------------------------
www.youtube.com/watch?v=3hTv-tEdCr0
Everland was the sixth episode in the on-line movie, and as Badoev said, was originally meant to be the second of three that explore terrorism and war. One guesses that Badoev will continually be adding to these (the latest was just put on his Instagram site on Monday), and we’ll see if any additional, previously unseen segments appear.
To summarize their differences: Lara believes that the purpose of an artist is to raise up people, provide hope and love, while not ignoring the real problems that exist. This elevation she feels will help people find the proper way to deal with those problems. Badoev believes that art should show the world “as it is”, not as one hopes it will be, with the goal of provoking such extreme dislike that it will lead to change. Both, ultimately have the same goal, just opposite ways of trying to achieve it through their art.
Considering the broader picture, outside of the appearance of this ‘new material’ indicating how good an actress Lara can be, the only relevance of any of this to Lara currently is that she is apparently starting a new venture with Igor Krutoi. He was the one who set up Badoev as director of the movie, and seemed to get caught in the middle of their disagreement. It also seemed, from the outside, that it was at least one of the reasons for the apparent split between Lara and Krutoi; they didn’t work together for a number of years. One wonders whether Lara will bring up the emergence of this ‘new’ material when they get together in November. It could be that this is so much in the past for Lara that she no longer cares. Let’s hope so.
First Singing Contest: Royal Academy in Brussels (finished second)
First job: cashier
First tour: radio tour for Eurovision
First time in Quebec: guest at a concert
First duo: Marc Lerchs
First dubbing of a cartoon: Esmeralda in Hunchback of Notre Dame
First car: Coccinelle VW Ferrari (her father’s)
First time with Lou: Her greatest joy
To complete our trip into the past, for the interesting photo(s) of the week, the following video was shown on the “Lara Fabian, Bien Plus Qu’une Passion. Corse-Reunion” site, of Lara sitting alone at the piano and singing ''Je m'arrêterai pas de t'aimer''.

At some point Lara will return from her Sicilian interlude and continue working in earnest one assumes, on the upcoming tour. At which point our attention will turn to what promises to be an exciting future for Lara and her fans.
