On Friday of this week Lara will release her new album, so last week the promotion of this new album was in full swing. Lara continued to post some ‘count-down’ pictures, e.g., for “day – 8”:

A review of the album is available already, in “Tribu Move”; here’s the translation:
--------------------------------------------
Thanks to the collaboration with her artistic soul-mates, the Swedish producer Moh Denebi ((Loreen…) and the writer-composer Sharon Vaughn, Lara unveiled in 2017 an entirely new disc in English, ‘Camouflage’. For this 14th album in French (11 titles) this team has breathed new life and modernity into its universe. They have achieved the feat of combining her lyric flights and her classy French pop to an electro-pop (the arrangements mix subtly electro sounds and classical instruments). The Diva is therefore well and truly back. After the energetic atmospheric electro "Papillon" where she sings the beauty of the Earth (a true ecological hymn), and "Je suis a toi", the new single, is the ballad "Por Amour". An opus, fully co-written and co-composed by Lara where we find her unique and timeless DNA. Power ballads to heal the heart and the soul, dance flloor hymns with background ("Alien" ...). The “50” World tour, January 9, 2020 at Forest National in Brussels, Belgium and March 24 and 25 at the Olympia in Paris.
--------------------------------------------
A wonderful first review!
In another good sign, the single of “Papillon” is still on the adisq charts in Quebec (https://palmaresadisq.ca/fr/tops-ventes/chansons/?fbclid=IwAR2XTTzWIroze2JWRqoGQnJM-s77Viwx7bB3pvjGJZ53GSi7t9CjIb5fO9k), as the 9th best selling Francophone song.
In other promotional activities, after her exclusive early listening for fans and media last week, Lara was interviewed by DansTaBulle.TV. It can be seen at:
www.facebook.com/DansTaBulle.tv/videos/2276376229280465/
She talks about creating a current album without limits at her home in Montreal. In response to a series of questions, in particular what she wants to transmit, she answered confidence, hope, and justice.
In another hold-over from last week, if you remember Lara was co-host for two mornings on “Deux filles le matain”. As noted previously, the first show was on medical issues including hearing problems – something Lara knows all about. The second morning was on ‘passion’ – something Lara also is quite familiar with! They couldn’t have picked two better shows.
Coming up, Lara will be on the program "Ça finit bien la semaine" on the day of the album release, February 8th. The description of the show reads, “Next Friday, THE show you do not want to miss this winter! Julie Bélanger and José Gaudet welcome Lara Fabian , Simon Leblanc and Jean-Charles Lajoie! A promotional video can be seen at:
www.facebook.com/cafinitbienlasemaineTVA/videos/2090504467671958
Presumably this was pre-recorded, for on that same day, Lara will be recording the show ‘On refait la tele’ at 10:15 local time (tickets to be in the audience are available). So Lara will be in France on that day, and as we heard previously, in Europe for most of the month doing promotion.
And Lara is in “Echos Vedettes” advertising the new album, the cover can be seen at:

Release of her new album, “Papillon’
“Without my husband, I would not have the same serenity”
After a last album in English Lara Fabian returns to her maternal language with “Papillon”, a disc much more pop and dancing. Love in all its form including the breakup, remains the subject of predilection of the singer with 12 million discs sold around the world. Before her return to the couch of La Voix, she confides about her latest production.
In returning to live in Quebec, the land that saw her artistic birth, Lara Fabian has not only returned to her roots, but she has also acquired a level of serenity that she had never attained beforehand. “What is exceptional in the writing of this album, it is the manner in which it is done. We were in my house. It was a great comfort to do it like that. We settled in the cellar, in the workshop of my chum, who is a magician engineer. He has a bric-a-brac workshop, where a makeshift studio has been set up. This approach has diluted all the work stress. I love to write at home. I was lucky to be able to go down in pajamas. I reconnected with the way I wrote at the beginning of my career, when writing was not an issue.
The week of relaxation in the month of March, 2018 permitted Lara and her two writing accomplices, Moh Denebi and Sharon Vaughn, to produce an album in seven days. “It was surprising, even for us. We were in a space of total vacuum. We were in a room, with a piano, a sound card, and two or three ideas which we had spoken about the night before, at supper. We had a beautiful exchange, in a very simple manner, like a conversation. The first day, we wrote the title song, “Papillon”. We spoke about contemplation, of this manner that we have of being incapable of taking a step back from the events, to be always close to our worries and our anxieties, which crushes our inspirations of life. I think that to make music, you just have to plug into the right place. If we can connect to it and it's in our DNA, it's pretty surprising what can happen."
According to Lara, the influence of Quebec is felt in the serenity she experienced when making this record. "When I arrived in Quebec, I felt like I was at home, even though I was a little Belgian with Italian roots. For a reason that I can not explain, I always had the feeling to be at home."
Astonishingly, may of the songs of the new album talk about breakups or lovers deceptions, which is completely the opposite of what Lara currently lives. “It was something that inhabited me in a universal way. We have all experienced something like that. This is one of the themes I wanted to deal with in a resilient way. There is no reason why or because ... That's what came to me as the melodies were born. Music is a language, it already contains the theme inside. We must listen to what the melody dictates. It arrives most of the time first; it's a constant in my case.”
Since their meeting in 2012 in Sicily, Lara Fabian lives a great love with Gabriel Di Giorgio, who she married in June of the following year. “Without him, I certainly would not have the same serenity, and I would not feel the peace which lives in me now. I would not have the profound communication which this relationship permits me to live. I would not have the idea of the woman that I can become. The strength of a great love, it is what permits you to be you, finally. I think to have met the person who loves who I am, that permits me to be much more at peace with myself and with who I am.”
Magician by profession, Gabriel works in the shadow since he met the singer. "The day he wants to share what he is, he will present his material, but I do not push it. I said that now he wants to live something else, and he wants to do things differently. In his mind, he is much more in the construction of the next thing he will do. It does not just happen through a process of intellectual creation, but also through engineering. I let him live at his own pace; it is necessary that it matures."
And for those who pose the question, it is not Gabriel that one sees in the clip “Je suis a toi”, where Lara sports with a half-devil Apollo. "Since it's a love story that speaks to everyone, I think it would not have been elegant to show us like that. There is so much said for him in the song, I preferred that another and me be the actors in a love story, even though I was inspired from mine to write it."
A birthday tour
In January 2020, Lara Fabian will celebrate her 50th birthday, a step she will highlight from next autumn. “I will do a great tour through fifty countries for my 50 years. But for me, it's just a number. We can imagine it as a little monster moving forward, but that's not my case. In fact, I am already in my 50th year, but above all, I still feel like I'm in my thirties. Physically, I still do not feel like a woman in her fifties. Sixty years old, it's likely to annoy me a lot more. I have the impression that there is something physical which must begin to change at this age. For the moment, all goes well. I'll be scared later.” Samuel Pradier
------------------------------------------------------------
And concerning the concert tour for 2018/2019, which Lara said above will encompass 50 countries, the Lara Fabian web FB site added some additional dates: the Sala Palatulu in Bucharest, November 18 and 19th; and the PCC "Cosmos" in Ekaterinburg, Russia on October 5th. Interestingly, the advertisement for the Bucharest show calls it a “Greatest Hits Remix”. We had previously noted the shows in Moscow and St. Petersburg in October, as well as Sofia, Bulgaria in December. So assuming all of these are real, and most if not all are selling tickets, this brings to six concerts in 2018 that are still not listed on Lara’s “Events” section of her FB site. What are they waiting for?
Meanwhile, Lara’s people were busy trying to relieve the consternation associated with her remarks last week, that this might be her last album release.
To recapitulate, from last week’s News Update: in an interview with ici.radio-canada, entitled “Lara Fabian presents what may be her last album, but not her goodbyes”, Lara had this to say:
----------------------------------
“I wrote an album that, in this format, is perhaps the last I will do, since we do not know if an album is viable, in the absolute.”
----------------------------------
Then, in an article published in the Journal of Montreal, entitled “My Mom is a Star”, the following comments appeared:
------------------------------------
She also took the opportunity to announce that this album, expected in stores on February 8, would be the last to benefit from physical support. The singer intends to turn more towards digital in the years to come.
"It's not the music that's disappearing, but the records. It is no longer economically viable to make an album. I do not think we should be bitter about what is changing", she says.
---------------------------------------
And then, in an interview with “985FM.CA” entitled “Lara Fabian: a new album and the project of a singing school”, she amplified on the concept further:
----------------------------------
Aware that music is no longer selling in the same way as before, Lara Fabian said she was at a turning point in her career.
LF: "It does not change everything economically, because music does not necessarily cost less to produce. But, that will change everything in a future perspective. That's why I said that in this form, Papillon will be the last. [...] My daughter listens to a lot of songs, but I've never seen her listen to a full album. Never."
Lara Fabian believes that the days of physical or digital albums in their traditional form are numbered. In an interview with our cultural columnist Catherine Beauchamp, she suggested that she could publish one song at a time, for example.
-----------------------------------
From these different extracts one can see that (1) Lara has doubts about the physical release of CDs, and would prefer to emphasize digital releases; and (2) she also has doubts that an album is a viable commercial entity, and may go to smaller releases, perhaps even one song at a time.
Lara’s fans were very disquieted by this news, for it smacked of a de-emphasis on her musical career. We suggested here that an album release garners publicity and promotion, with tours to support it, something a single release, without the prospect of an accompanying album, is unlikely to do. ‘Ocelot’, in response to Lara's comments in the last Update, noted that more artists are releasing EPs of 5 or 6 songs, or even trilogies of three songs each (which could be viewed as making up an album). Though Lara explicitly mentioned “one song at a time”, perhaps she also meant something of that nature - though even that would likely not have the same benefit of publicity in the media, nor tours to support it. As Ocelot also wrote, this approach “is especially popular for some independent artists with a strong fan following due to previous success”. I’m not sure Lara would want to be classified as an ‘indie’ artist, even if its definition [“music produced independently from commercial record labels or their subsidiaries, a process that may include an autonomous, do-it-yourself approach to recording and publishing”] does seem to fit except for her music distribution by commercial record companies.
Perhaps in response to the consternation these sentiments caused, there was an attempt to “walk back” these comments. Lara’s manager, Matt Ersin wrote the following:
-----------------------------------
Hello. Regarding the article recently published on the site "Ici Radio Canada: there is no question of plans to stop the production of CDs for future albums. Lara's commentary in the interview concerns only her personal thoughts about the possible disappearance of the "CD" format in the future of the music industry, following a question from the journalists about it. This is not an "announcement" of Lara in this sense. As long as there is a demand for CDs and a commercial distribution of albums in the "CD" format, Lara's albums will be marketed in this format. 9 Productions
------------------------------------
This directly addresses only one of the two comments Lara made; certainly people would miss the physical CDs, but the bigger issue is the question of future albums. He implied in his comment that there will be future albums; however, Lara seemed to have a real opinion about this, and after all, she is the one who would have to make them. We’ll see what happens in this regard – it’s conceivable that Lara is preparing herself for ‘Papillon’ to be unsuccessful commercially, and so is downplaying the importance of albums in her own mind. Perhaps its commercial fate, following that of ‘Camouflage’, will determine what she does in the future.
In other news, although not album related, Lara used her “day – 7” post to announce that she will be appearing in the comic book “Mes papas & Moi” written by Milk Mayer. First here’s Lara’s posting:
www.facebook.com/larafabianofficial/photos/a.215378125170359/2553948427979972/?type=3&theater
with the caption:
Lara, soon in comic character:
"Mikl Mayer returns with a second volume of the comic strip "Mes papas & Moi", less than a year after the reissue of volume 1 "Portrait of family" (with the presence of Line Renaud, Arielle Dombasie, Amanda Lear and Navii).
The Summary: Florian has a secret. He would be the father of a little girl he would have had with Melanie in high school As he prepares his marriage with Tristan, the announcement of the news will shake the life of the couple. Meanwhile, their son, Zack, is asking questions about sex.
Humor and suspense are new in an adventure that promises many twists.
With the exceptional presence of Lara Fabian and Mathieu Wilhelm, this album also benefited from the participation of Jonas Ben Ahmed, the first transgender actor to play in French fiction.”

Lara Fabian in "Mes papas & Moi"
posted the February 1, 2019by Mikl Mayer
The first poster of the next album of "Mes papas & Moi" was unveiled today by Lara Fabian, who will make an appearance with Florian, Tristan and Zack
After Pierre Palmade (Mes papas avant moi 2), Arielle Dombasle, Amanda Lear and Line Renaud (Mes papas & moi) or the late Maurane ( Les d’jeunes 4), it's the turn of Lara Fabian to make an appearance in an album by Mikl Mayer.
The poster was unveiled today by the famous singer, and presents the full cast of the album, as well as its title “Les liens qui nous unissent” [The links that unite us]. With Lara, we will meet again Mathieu Wilhelm (Chronicler on BFMTV, producer and comedian), as well as Jonas Ben Ahmed (Plus Belle La Vie), of whom you can find the interview here, who collaborates on the character of Valentina. This new installment of the series should be launched in April on Ulule, for a release, if it reaches its financial goal in June.
This is not the only news of the singer, who will very soon release her 14th album "Papillon", scheduled for February 8.
The artist wanted to combine her world of romance and variety with more modern sounds, with a talented duo composed of producer Moh Denebi (Pink, Britney Spears ...) and singer-songwriter Sharon Vaughn, already at the helm of her previous opus "Camouflage".
--------------------------------------------------------
If one is unfamiliar with this work, following is the description from amazon.fr (https://www.amazon.fr/Mes-papas-moi-Mikl-Mayer/dp/B015Z6Q89U):
----------------------------------------------------------
Since June 2014, the cartoonist and scriptwriter Mikl Mayer has published on the internet “Mes Papas & Moi”, a humorous comic book about two men who raise their son: through a series of small funny and striking scrapers, Mikl Mayer tells their parents' disappointment in facing their pre-teen, the sometimes homophobic reactions of society, the ups and downs of a couple's life…

Interesting photo of the day: from Lara, her “day – 6” post,
As Friday is the release day for Papillon, there will likely be a lot of material to cover in the next News Update. Given Lara's recent comments…it may be her last CD/album release – probably not, but you never know. So let’s enjoy it fully!

with the caption:

As Friday is the release day for Papillon, there will likely be a lot of material to cover in the next News Update. Given Lara's recent comments…it may be her last CD/album release – probably not, but you never know. So let’s enjoy it fully!
