The big news this past week was, of course, the release of the second single from Lara’s upcoming ‘Papillon’ album, entited “Je suis a toi”. It can be heard on various streaming sites, including Spotify, and is available from iTunes among other venues. It’s a catchy, up-tempo song, well-sung, and the chorus provides an injection of emotion. One can imagine that this will be a tuneful favorite on any upcoming tour. It does end abruptly, like some of the songs on Camouflage, and is short, only 3:19 – again, like some of the songs on Camouflage (see below). It would appear that the two albums may thus have much in common, as might have been expected from two “electro-pop” albums.
Here are the translated (approximate) lyrics - thanks to the Lets Sing It lyrics site (https://www.letssingit.com/lara-fabian-lyrics-je-suis-%C3%A0-toi-5xvnv4t) for the French lyrics:

I’m Yours
Lara Fabian / Sharon Vaughn / Moh Denebi
This morning, Love covers
But one must put it to sleep
You wake me up, I'm yours
You...
Under my sheet of snow
Our two bodies are two
You touch me and I am yours, ah
My thought will remember
All those moments there
For ever, I'm yours
And my soul will surrender
Without the slightest fight
Completely,
I'm yours
I talk to my weaknesses
And shake my fears
With all my strength, I'm yours
If one day my memory
Deserted my story
Never will I forget that I am yours, you
My thought will remember
All those moments there
Forever, I'm yours
And my soul will surrender
Without the slightest fight
Completely,
I'm yours
All this is not a dream
It is well my reality
You my imagination
Who will go up in smoke
My skin will remember
All those moments there
Forever, I'm yours
And my soul will surrender
Without the slightest fight
Completely,
I'm yours
--------------------------------------------
Interesting song…while Lara expresses her wholehearted love and surrender, she also comments that "their bodies are two", that she has to face her fears to give herself over, and that, at some level, the version of him she sees is in her imagination, and that it will go up in smoke. In other words, love, but keeping perspective. Perhaps that’s why Lara doesn’t like to sing “Tout” anymore…she may feel it doesn’t have perspective.
Associated with this release is the possibility of pre-ordering the new album itself. Even though its release is still several months away, pre-ordering does give them some indication of how much to produce, to market, etc. The short clip advertising it, along with a bit of “Je suis a toi” can be found at:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=4JQw5n1drrw
and Lara herself had a brief message concerning it, and the single release:
www.facebook.com/larafabiantonautre/videos/766180420385236/
On Lara’s site, they indicate that one can pre-order the album on:
Canada: Musicor.lnk.to/LaraFabianPapillonPreSaveFA
France: WarnerMusicFR.lnk.to/xI4eOFA
Belgium: tinyurl.com/papillonprecommandeBE
Other countries: Itunes store in your country.
One additional place that it can be done is on FNAC; here’s the (translated) blurb accompanying it (https://musique.fnac.com/a13101983/Lara-Fabian-Papillon-CD-album?omnsearchpos=1&fbclid=IwAR0aNaWXZm_gTjwHkfkqjjTMf63YBtK4uiR8vW_vvoTiXcP-Bxi5YCYjlao):
“After her last album certified "platinum" in France and an international tour in 2017, Lara Fabian returns with a 14th album entitled "Papillon". "Papillon" was created and recorded in Montreal and directed by Moh Denebi, one of the most talented producers of the new pop sound. Bringing together Lara Fabian's vocal signature, combining an electro-pop production and a classic orchestration, "Papillon" offers a sound that is both modern and timeless. "Papillon" is an important turning point in the artistic development of Lara Fabian, who co-wrote and composed all the tracks on this album.”
One imagines this will be the blurb for the album everywhere; it’s very similar to the blurb written for ‘Camouflage’ (which probably won’t be noticed by the francophone media).
On Apple music in Canada, one can see the list of the 11 songs on the album and their length. [Note: iTunes in the U.S. has a different order, and is missing two of the songs, while adding the radio edit for Papillon - is this intentional, will there really be two different releases? If not, Lara's people should really get iTunes there to correct it. And if so...why?].
Papillon 3:58
Je Suis a Toi 3:19
When the pre-ordering became available for Camouflage, we went through a similar exercise concerning the length of that album (News Update 8-8-17). That album was 41 minutes long, and as we said at the time, it was shorter than all of Lara's other albums except EWIM (37 minutes) and Lara’s first self-titled French album (39 minutes). As can be seen here, this is now the third shortest album Lara has released.
The comment made by others is that ‘electro-pop’ albums often are short – and indeed, in that update, when we checked on the top 10 Electropop-Synthpop bands/artists as determined by ranker.com who have released albums in the last three years, the average length of songs on those albums was 3.7 minutes; Lara’s value here is about 3.6 minutes (and for Camouflage, it was 3.4 minutes), and so not out of line.
We also said at the time that quality and quantity are not necessarily correlated, and when we finally got to hear Camouflage, it turned out to be excellent. That may well be the case for Papillon; the two tracks we’re heard so far have been very catchy/tuneful, and Lara has sung well. Just don't expect long, intense ballads...
“Charts in France” (http://www.chartsinfrance.net/Lara-Fabian/news-108722.html) had an article about this release, translated below:
----------------------------------------------
"Je suis a toi": Lara Fabian makes a declaration of love on her new title
Lara Fabian unveils the second excerpt of her new album "Papillon", expected next February. The singer is romantic about the intense "Je suis a toi". To listen on Pure Charts!
Lara Fabian is looking forward to the top of the rankings with her new album "pop and contemporary". After "Camouflage", a disc sung entirely in English, the singer returns to the language of Molière, a first since "Ma vie dans la tienne" , released in 2015. Please note now the date of February 8, 2019 because it will unveil her 14th studio album called "Papillon" . "It's my totem since I was little. My grandmother called me "farfalla", so it's an animal that has always followed me" she explained to 'La Dernière Heure', revealing to have composed her new songs in ten days. A project, recorded with Swedish producer Moh Denebi (Pink, Britney Spears , Loreen) or Sharon Vaughn, which will contain 11 tracks, as revealed by the tracklist unveiled for opening pre-orders. After the title "Papillon", unveiled a few weeks ago to give the color of this new album, Lara Fabian now reveals a second excerpt: "Je suis a toi".
"My skin will remember all those moments"
And it is a declaration of love whose passionate text is carried by a spinning production that Lara Fabian proposes us here. "My skin will remember all those moments / For ever, I am yours / And my soul will surrender, without the slightest fight / All of you, I am yours " she sings with her powerful voice on a exhilarating chorus, where the violins spin. A title that should appeal to radio programmers even if the ambition of Lara Fabian is elsewhere. "It's not beneficial to think in these terms because it's terrible for creativity. If you start thinking about writing something that will work, you will inevitably write something that will not work at all. It is the rule! It's stupid but it's like that" confided the singer of "Growing Wings" in an interview with Pure Charts.

Lara Fabian sings an indelible and total love with "Je suis a toi"
Marie Guillot Farneti November 30, 2018 | 15 h 04 min
Lara Fabian continues to draw the contours of her upcoming album Papillon. It reveals the romantic "Je suis a toi" .
2019 will mark the return of Lara Fabian with an album in French. Papillon, whose cover and tracklist have just been unveiled, will be available on February 8, 2019 and will have 11 tracks." It's my totem since I was little. My grandmother called me farfalla, so it's an animal that has always followed me, "she told the Belgian newspaper La Dernière Heure about the origin of the name.
A few weeks ago, the Belgian singer unveiled the eponymous title co-written and co-composed with Moh Denebi (Pink, Britney Spears, Måns Zelmerlöw ...) and Sharon Vaughn. An amazing piece marking an evolution in the discography of Lara Fabian. In response to "Papillon", Lara Fabian decided to rely on the romantic song "Je suis a toi".
"I'm yours forever "
As is often the case with Lara Fabian, it is about love. There, it is a happy, unconditional and time-resistant love that the artist sings. "This morning love covers / My sleeping shoulders / You wake me up and I am yours, you / Under our sheets of snow / Our two bodies are melting / You touch me and I am yours" do we hear her sing about a powerful and passionate story. Musically, the molt started on "Papillon" continues and seems to reserve many surprises ...
--------------------------------------------------
Again, this is not really a song about blind love, but about overcoming resistance and noting love's limitations. Note also that there is some variance between the lyrics this article quotes (and on the "Lara Fabian est ton autre" page), and those that appear towards the top of this Update from "Let's Sing It". On listening to the song, to me, the words from Let's Sing It appear more likely to be correct.
In news associated with La Voix, on their facebook photo page they’ve been putting up a picture of a piano with a Christmas tree in the background, and counting down the days – they are now up to “2 days” in the foreground. (https://www.facebook.com/lavoixtva/photos/a.327556664006515/1939448282817337/?type=3&theater). One can speculate that there may be some musical release coming about shortly, perhaps associated with the holiday season (if perhaps no more than in the sense of a gift). We’ll find out shortly...
In other news, Lara will be on the program “Les Annes Bonheur”, on December 15th (http://www.leblogtvnews.com/2018/11/les-annees-bonheur-le-15-decembre-avec-yannick-noah-sheila-lara-fabian-jenifer.html?fbclid=IwAR30UZ57RIxdq4G5h-XLlF-kWT9c12FX5W--M46WgVjrpdXXiKtUR0--nbk) on France 2, with Patrick Sebastian as host. There will be many guests as one can see in the announcement. It was apparently recorded in October, when Lara was there.
Lara’s album cover dominated the ‘photos’ on the various websites, as it was also used as a backdrop for the new single. Showbizz.net called it a ‘superb cover’ (http://showbizz.net/2018/11/30/lara-fabian-superbe-en-couverture-de-son-nouvel-album/?fbclid=IwAR0xml2EQUOKvsbFACTfg782z5kj6O63hAOJPQSGOy4hpNg_Wgzqm1pRmUk).
In the coming week, perhaps we’ll find out more about how this second single is received by media and fans; and also what La Voix has in mind with their countdown. Otherwise one imagines Lara, and many others, will be shifting into holiday mode as the year winds down.
