We’re now deep in the heart of summer, and Lara seems to be appreciating it to its fullest, as she shared some pictures of what she calls “Beach Day” on her website:

That probably depicts the essence of what we all wish was our world these days…
Lara’s other post this week, on her Twitter account, was in honor of the French victory in the World Cup. After previously backing the Belgian team, and then pulling for France in the finals, she wrote at:
“Congratulations to the French team for their victory at the World Cup!”
Belgium did finish third.
Otherwise, it’s no surprise that with everybody away on vacation, there was no public progress on any of the questions concerning Lara’s activities. Her ‘events’ page still lists only the Sao Paulo concert at the end of September, and the three concerts in Quebec in October (the two in Montreal are sold out, with tickets apparently still remaining for the one in Quebec City). Replacement concerts in Germany are probably not likely by this time.
One month ago (News Update, 6/12) we provided the translation for an article at (http://www.melody.tv/actualite/lara-fabian-va-proposer-un-nouvel-album-en-francais) which mentioned that ‘Camouflage’ had only sold 10,000 copies. For some reason that article has now found its way to a number of Lara’s fan sites, and people writing in seemed amazed at how little that number was. In responding, the hosts for at least one of the sites noted how little promotion there was for the album, as Lara had gotten involved in “La Voix”. While it’s not clear that any amount of promotion would have worked in the United States, it is definitely a warning for the next French album – if her work for “La Voix” dominates her attention while the album is out, it will come at the expense of record sales. [Of course, she may not be on La Voix]. Perhaps Lara doesn’t really care…she certainly seemed to enjoy herself, both on La Voix and on the Camouflage ‘World Tour’, without seeming to be worried about the sales numbers. Lara’s Team, in response to a question about this, said that they were “in it for the long haul”, which seemed to imply that there might be additional English albums, and that Lara would build up an audience for them over time. While there may not be great concern over the commercial fate of her first English album in more than a decade, if numbers are this low for the next French album, it is likely there will be concern…
It’s often interesting to look at how Lara is doing with sales of her other albums on iTunes in the different countries. For example, today the list shows:
Album: Lara Fabian [English]
iTunes:
#11 Bahrain
#34 Uzbekistan
Album: A Wonderful Life
iTunes:
#3 Bahrain
Je t’aime
iTunes:
#14 Egypt
I defy anyone to have predicted those results!
In related, though off-topic, news, an article in Charts in France (http://www.chartsinfrance.net/Maurane/news-107452.html) notes that Maurane’s daughter Lou will be releasing a posthumous album of Maurane in October. In translation:
------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Lou, who will be the artistic director of the project, explains today why this record is so dear to her heart. "The last time I saw her was in the studio," she confides, before going back to the causes of her death.
The last few weeks before her disappearance, Maurane was working on a cover album of Jacques Brel , her idol since always. While it was not finished, her label Polydor (Universal Music France) will finally market this project posthumously, under the impetus of her daughter Lou Villafranca. "It's a way of paying homage to her one last time. She began to sing again, to return to the stage, to have a taste for music. She died brutally without having time to finish this album of which she was very proud. She would have liked that this disc is finished" justified the girl to the Parisian, assuring that "there are pearls in what she recorded". With Philippe De Cock, the pianist of his mother, Lou will take care of the artistic direction of the album.
If Maurane had recorded only draft songs for her project, and she was just getting ready to go into the studio to finalize the record before her death, her daughter Lou assured that her mother left ‘models of quality’: "There are fourteen exploitable songs. We will see if we keep everything. There are some very nice things in piano voice. We must add arrangements. We have a lot of work. The idea is to make it as authentic as possible . Aged 24, Lou Villafranca is therefore given the task of perpetuating the unique voice of her mother, Maurane, who had also made her listen to several songs on the album before disappearing: "The last time I saw her it was in the studio. She was working on those songs. That's also why I wanted to take over this project. Our last exchanges took place in the studio. I gave her advice. I made remarks to her.”
On the causes of Maurane's death, Lou was very clear. "It's an accidental cause. I do not want to say more. She had a fall," she said, sweeping away rumors of suicide. The posthumous album of Maurane, which will contain the covers of "Ne me quitte pas", "Quand on a que l'amour", "Vesoul" and "La chanson des vieux amants", should be released in October.

It’s probably too late for this coming French album, but one wonders whether it has occurred to Lara to write a song in honor of Maurane (or Johnny Hallyday, for that matter)…
Interesting photo(s) of the week – and it is a ‘photo’ - from the ‘Lara Fabian Notre Raison de Vivre’ site,

And in this next case, it is a painting of Lara, as posted on the Lara Fabian Mexico site, at:

One has to say it is an excellent likeness, which seems to capture who Lara is…
We can expect little in the way of real news from Lara or her people until their vacation is over. That might extend ‘til September, although presumably the French album needs to be finished and decisions made about the timing and choice of the first single (if not already done). Otherwise, we, like Lara, should enjoy the summer!
