Lara is currently on vacation in Sicily. We know this because she posted a picture from there on her FB site yesterday. It can be seen at:
www.facebook.com/larafabianofficial/photos/a.622966977744803.1073741829.201065806601591/2143489552359197/?type=3&theater
This of course is the country that her mother is from, although whether her mother is actually there with her is uncertain, given that she is suffering from dementia. And Lara’s husband Gabriel is Sicilian and has family there as well. Hopefully they are enjoying their time, as Lara so often has in that location in summers past. Lara’s ‘Team’ may also be on vacation, as we have not heard from them recently.
It’s not clear whether this implies that all work is finished on the new French album – it was only a month ago that those who heard it in the pre-listening sessions indicated the vocals were not in final form, nor was all the instrumentation.
In any event, there does not seem to be any obvious rush. The ‘Lara Fabian es ton autre’ site reported that it will be released in November, 2018. When asked how they knew that, they said “Lara said it”. We have no further information as to when/where that took place, or if in fact it is a final decision, but if true, Lara probably has some time to work on it, and make final decisions. The timing is consistent with that for ‘Camouflage’, which had its first pre-listening session on May 3, 2017, one month earlier than the one for this new album (June 9th), and Camouflage was released in October (October 6th, 2017).
One decision that would need to be made is the release of which singles. To continue with the relative timing in comparison to “Camouflage”, it was reported in early June 2017 that that album was “quasi-ready”, hence 4 months earlier than its release. The first single, ‘Growing Wings’ was released on August 4th. Yet a single release was discussed as early as June of that year. Following that same path for a November 2018 release, would suggest the new album is actually more or less on the proper track, and some comment about a single may appear as early as this month (though maybe not while vacations are taking place), with the single itself released in September. That would make sense for the French market, at ‘la rentree’. Presumably they would arrange for a music video as well. Such preparations may well be going on now (hopefully).
Then there is the question of concert dates. Back in early June (see the News Update of 6/6/17) Lara was already discussing a World Tour and had fixed some 30 dates, with concerts beginning February 3rd, 2018. Tickets actually went on sale for some locations in mid-May. So given that we are now six weeks later in the year, and the album release may well be one month later, we should be hearing something about the upcoming tour pretty soon, which we assume would be primarily in France and Belgium, with some excursions to Russia, Eastern Europe/Asia, and of course Quebec.
Here’s where this whole scenario gets complicated. That one month seasonal lag if continued would put the start of the tour in early March, 2019. If Lara is a coach on the second season of La Voix, and they have the same approximate broadcast schedule as in 2018, then the from early February through mid-March would be the blind auditions, which Lara could record ahead of time (but she would still have to be around at some point to do it). But for most of the next 8 weeks, through early May, Lara would have to be present in Quebec for the live rounds (the duals, the battle song, direct competition and the finals). Practically speaking, she would not be able to start the tour in March under those circumstances, as it’s hard to believe that she would begin it and then take several months off before continuing it, although one supposes anything is possible. The difference in timing of that one month is crucial – for the Camouflage World Tour, Lara had, in effect, had some five weeks once the tour started before needing to be in Quebec (she had February, and the first part of March), during which time she gave 10 concerts; during the months of the live recording of La Voix she gave only four (which had been scheduled previously, and thus were probably not optimal for her).
Of course, she could start the tour in February of 2019 anyway, just have it closer to the release date of the album. But if so, it’s strange that we haven’t heard anything yet about such a tour – concert halls ordinary have to be booked a year ahead of time, and one would think Lara’s Team would be eagerly starting to promote them by now. There’s no indication (that I can see) for any Lara concert in 2019, on any of the advance concert notification sites.
After La Voix is finished, she could pack all of her French and Belgium concerts into the rest of May and at least the first half of June, which might be sufficient for that market, depending on how ‘extensive’ it is meant to be (a word that has been used in reference to it for those countries). That might then be consistent with us not having heard anything yet. Alternatively, and much less likely, she would have to wait until the fall, hence nearly a year after the album’s release. That would be an extreme action – would people even remember the album by then, and what would the record sales be like in the interim?
This supposes that she is actually on the second season of La Voix. La Voix is still basking in the results of the last season, as discussed in last week’s Update, and no indication of anything relating to 2019 is yet available. One presumes negotiations are still on-going. It’s hard to imagine (though again, not impossible) that they would not want Lara back, and she seemed to imply she was waiting for them to ask her before making any decisions (including where she will be living next year).
She seems to be in a difficult spot; if La Voix is not on the table, one would think she would prefer to give at least some of her French and Belgium concerts in March, closer to the album release date, as she did with ‘Ma vie dans la tienne’. But she would probably have to have booked them by now. Otherwise, May and June seem like the most likely times, for Europe at least, assuming they have already booked those halls.
By the way, La Voix releases an album with the “most memorable performers” of its season (e.g., for Season 5 from 2017: itunes.apple.com/us/album/la-voix-5/1223318795?app=itunes&ign-mpt=uo%3D4), and that includes the joint song from the coaches. We therefore should probably expect one for 2018 as well.
There wasn’t much in the way of other news; Lara’s fan sites have taken to posting old videos or pictures. In that regard, there is a ‘new’ (to me at least) old video of Lara and Mario Frangoulis rehearsing “So in Love” in 2001; it’s quite cute, with Lara playing around. Too bad they didn’t use that type of sequence in the movie "De Lovely". It can be seen at:

Accompanying this picture, they quoted Lara’s words from ‘We Are the Storm’:
------------------------------------------------------------
“As we look around on this beautiful planet, unfortunately, there's not much we can really be proud of...
But then, as I always try to find the light, a solution and some hope within the darkest moment and as I think about who we are as human beings, I believe we have lost sight of everything that we could be. If we gathered all these raindrops, if we formed into a wave, there would be so much that we could save. We could be our own salvation and our own higher grounds, if we recognize this power, this is what will save us now, because I firmly believe that we are the storm.” - Lara Fabian

You may have noticed the extraordinarily hot record-breaking temperatures that were recorded in the Northern Hemisphere this past week, in North America, the British Isles, Asia, Russia including northern Siberia…It’s not clear whether the LF Greece FB site did this in response to those extreme readings, but Lara’s words could not be more appropriate.
One assumes until hearing differently that Lara’s vacation will continue. We’ll see if any news arises associated with the new album or concert tour, or the future of Lara on La Voix. Eventually we will find out how those schedules will harmonize, or not.
