A week of celebrations, on very different scales. Lara put a post on her official FB site, writing “Happy Canada Day” (+ many hearts). She linked to her singing of the song “Oh Canada” in both English and French. It’s a truly extraordinary rendition, and can be found at:

BTW, do you remember Lara sang “Oh Canada” at a hockey game? That can be seen at:

Canada Day was Sunday, July 1, though it was celebrated as a national holiday on Monday, July 2 this year. It commemorates the joining of Canada's original three provinces (Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and the Canada province, which is now Ontario and Quebec) as one nation in 1867. The holiday was previously called Dominion Day, for the Dominion of Canada in the British empire. According to CNN, “Events start early in the morning and go until the evening. They include parades, barbecues, fireworks displays, concerts, and also welcome ceremonies for those who recently became citizens. Members of the British government have also celebrated the holiday. Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip attended the celebration in the capital, Ottawa, in 2010, and Prince William and his wife, Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton, attended in 2011.”
[CNN also noted that “In predominantly French-speaking Quebec, the holiday is celebrated alongside Moving Day, a totally inconvenient day when many leases end or begin and residents are relocating.” In which case “Canada Day” might very well be pronounced with a very different inflection! ]
Of course it has special resonance for Lara this year, with her return to Quebec for “La Voix”, and perhaps for good. We shall see…Speaking of which, the four finalists from La Voix have been making numerous joint appearances in association with the show, as can be seen at: “https://www.facebook.com/pg/lavoixtva/posts/. There is no mention there yet of anything having to do with the choice of judges for next year.
In another type of celebration, Lara used her Twitter site to post a picture of a rainbow behind the Eiffel Tower, with the statement: “For the Equality of Rights, Against Discrimination”.
It can be found at:

The Gay Pride Parade was held in Paris on Saturday, June 30th, with more than half a million people attending.
And, continuing to work backward in time, June 27th was Lara and Gabriel’s 5th wedding anniversary. We (belatedly) wish them congratulations! The Lara Fabian Greece site provided a wonderful picture, seen at:

So Lara had three celebrations, of descending scales: country; gender; and personal.
Last year at this time we reviewed the top “Facebook likes” of some women French language singers, so it’s appropriate to do it again, and see how things have changed. Here is that listing, and its update:
2017 2018
Shy’m (1985) 1,681,028 1,575,730
Jenifer (1982) 1,231,486 1,191,074
Zaz (1980) 1,218,804 1,328,429
Lara (1970) 1,167,860 1,224,372
Alizee (1984) 1,037,273 1,060,289
Mylene Farmer (1961) 838,074 823.073
Amel Bent (1985) 1,577,089
Of the six listed last year, Lara has moved into third place among them (some have actually decreased, as FB removes 'likes' associated with defunct accounts). However, Amel Bent was not included previously, and she would actually rank highest. The birth year is also listed in parenthesis to indicate that Lara is considerably older than all except Mylene Farmer, a testament to her continued popularity. Facebook 'likes' are not necessarily a measure of commercial popularity, as evidenced by the sales of ‘Camouflage’, and it is not as much a ‘European’ thing, so Lara was probably helped by moving to North America, and (at least to some extent) her English language album; but it is one measure of ‘relevance’ in today’s world.

Hopefully Lara is taking time to enjoy herself and her family this early summer period. Well earned after the hustle and bustle of the past 10 months. Hopefully, too, all you will have the time to do likewise.
