A very sad week for Lara. As expected, Lara went to Belgium in association with Maurane’s death. An article concerning this appeared at (http://www.journaldemontreal.com/2018/05/08/lara-en-belgique-pour-maurane). Here’s the translation:

Lara in Belgium for Maurane
Lara Fabian is shaken by the death of her great friend
Deeply upset, Lara Fabian will fly to Brussels to honor the memory of Maurane, her friend and countryman, found dead at home Monday night.
According to our information, the Belgian-Canadian singer will go to Belgium in the coming days to pay tribute to the one she describes as her "other" in a vibrant message on Facebook.
"I'm sitting here in my little white office in Montreal, I do not want to realize that you're no longer ... I can not ... I tell myself that you're going to call and heckle me, because we do not see each other enough ..." writes Lara Fabian.
"I do not want your absence. I want our laughs and our mixed voices ... I want our strange connection ..." she continues.
A striking duo
Lara Fabian was very close to Maurane. In 2001, they recorded "Tu es mon autre", a song co-written by Lara Fabian and Rick Allison that had been very successful in Europe.
"Part of my life has just left with you" says the star on Facebook. I will never be the same again ..."
"Know that I'll come find you there ...", she concludes by signing "your croquette".
From Céline Dion to Isabelle Boulay
Lara Fabian is not the only artist to mourn the death of Maurane. Tuesday night, Celine Dion also wanted to share a word on Twitter. "I am deeply saddened to learn of the death of Maurane. She was an incredible artist. Her voice touched us and will continue to do so. My thoughts are with her family and loved ones," wrote the Quebec diva.
Celine Dion and Maurane have been singing together a few times over the last 20 years. On French TV, they have notably sung "Quand on n’a que l’amour" and "L’hymne à l’amour", with Johnny Hallyday, another great disappeared.
In Quebec, Isabelle Boulay described Maurane as "the Mamma of all our voices". "Good crossing and find peace in your soul that will always sing for us," wished the interpreter of "Je t’oublierai, je t’oublierai".
Elsewhere in Europe, Michel Fugain, Catherine Lara, Hélène Segara and Christophe Willem have expressed their sadness publicly.
Causes of death
The causes of the death of Maurane, who was 57 years old, have not been identified, reports Agence France Presse. An autopsy was required.
At the microphone of Europe 1, the French singer Liane Foly evoked the deep sadness of her friend, even raising the possibility of suicide. "She told me, "You know Liane, I'm not very happy." She was already telling me about this very powerful goodbye she wanted."
"She needed friendship, love. And I think she missed it, of love, to come to what we are talking about today," she added.

There will be many tears, flowers and music to pay a last tribute to Maurane, this Thursday, May 17 in the church of Notre-Dame-des-Graces, in Woluwe-Saint-Pierre, in the Brussels region. The ceremony is scheduled at 10 am, as stated in an official statement: "All those who wish to accompany her in these last moments will certainly do so with consideration and respect for the intimacy of the family, with whom we share pain. The place chosen could not better pay tribute to the artist: the large stone building, large enough to accommodate many of the faithful and friends, is also known by the poetic name of "the church of 'bird', in remembrance of a virgin venerated since the 13th century by the Franciscan monks.
If the results of the autopsy are not known for the moment, we know a little more about the circumstances of the death of the artist, who died at 57 years of age. According to Sudinfo, Maurane was in her bath at the end of the evening on May 7 when she was struck by a heart attack at her home in Schaerbeek, Brussels. Asked by Le Parisian, her artistic director dismissed the suicide trail. "She had big back problems and sometimes had trouble getting around," said Marc Lumbroso to the daily. And that had consequences for her voice. The singer was under treatment, with side effects, but she was driven by the idea of finding the joys of the stage. "She could have ups and downs, like all artists, but she was happy to prepare a new project."
I want to say that I still have time, but the time passes so quickly...
After two years of forced silence due to a vocal chord operation in 2016, Maurane was preparing to return in homage to Jacques Brel. At the beginning of May, she announced on her Facebook page that 14 demos (piano, guitar and voice) had been recorded and that a first single was due out this summer, before a tour scheduled in March 2019. Did the singer do too much in recent months? Was she stressed by the stakes? Her company was in the red, if one believes the information from Sudinfo, which had access to the accounts.
On the eve of her death, Sunday, May 6, she was back on stage for the Fête de l'Iris, in Brussels, where she shared her joy at finally finding her voice. "It's been three days that I again sing," she confided in front of RTBF cameras. It's a space of rebirth because I admit to you that I really believed, for almost a year, that I would not sing again. (...) It will go again, as we say, and then 2019, the tour ... I want to say that I still have time, but the time passes so quickly ..."
----------------------------------------------------------
There have been many, many tributes to Maurane that have appeared, way too many to discuss. She was truly adored and respected. One can see the video of her last appearance, just the day before she died, accompanying the article at (http://www.lesoir.be/155518/article/2018-05-08/la-derniere-apparition-sur-scene-de-maurane-la-fete-de-liris-video). She sang Jacques Brel's "Chanson des vieux amants" [Song of Old Lovers]. She’s certainly receiving a lot of love from those who knew her for a long time in the wake of her death…
Lara referred to the song “Mais la vie” in her parting message to Maurane. The video of the duet they did of that can be found at

It was announced that Maurane’s funeral will be held on Thursday, May 17 at 10:00 at the church Notre Dame des Grâces, avenue du chant d’oiseau 1150 Woluwé Saint-Pierre in Brussels. Prior to that announcement, Lara’s team had released the following statement: “Fyi: the recording of the TV special “Tout le monde aime” this week in Montreal with Lara has been postponed, ( or obvious reasons). Also, Lara will not be performing at the Gala Artis this [past] Sunday, as foreseen. All agenda points for the next days are cancelled. The concert planning is not affected by these changes. Thank you."
However…Lara is due in Amsterdam for her concert in Amsterdam on the evening of the 17th…could she go to Maurane’s funeral in the morning, and then fly to Amsterdam in time for the rehearsal? All while keeping her voice in shape? It may be a very difficult decision for her.
Remember not long ago when there was a vote of the best French duets in popular music, and Lara was on the list twice – with Johnny Hallyday and with Maurane? Well, they’re both now gone….

Clearly, little else was of importance to Lara, although she probably spent some time with her mother, whose issues are another challenge for her. Amid all of that is her concert in Amsterdam, followed by two in Greece. Perhaps they will help, assuming she can get up for them, by refocusing her on the joy she gets from performing and interacting with the audience. That’s life, for her.

In other news...a few left-overs from Lara’s participation in La Voix 6…
Prior to the last show there was an article that repeated some of Lara’s comments about Miriam, Yama and Felx (https://www.facebook.com/LaraFabianBienPlusQuunePassionCorseReunion/photos/pcb.832658980261613/832658950261616/?type=3&theater). Without repeating what we’ve heard before, here are the relevant points:
Miriam: She is irresistible. She sincerely doesn’t know what she possesses.
Yama: She is greater than music, greater than us. She belongs to the dimension of great singers like Nina Simone or Aretha Franklin
Felx Lemelin: I have the impression of knowing him for a long time, and it is reciprocated. He said that I was like a second mother; that didn’t surprise me, that we had had a parental link in another life. I wrote him a song because I decided to do it for us both. I gave him this song which speaks of him, which tells of him very well, and which is called “Je rentre chez nous”. And this song, that I have written with my husband, speaks also a little of me”.

Repeating what has been a constant theme – this program should not be called “La Voix”, since winning has (almost) nothing to do with the quality of the voices involved. At least in this genre, what's desired by the public are ‘performers’.
