The main, indeed almost only story this past week for Lara publicly was the live broadcast of the semi-finals for La Voix in Quebec. And even in this case, most of it was less about Lara than the show and its contestants. Concerning Sunday night’s program, here’s the (translated) report from the Journal of Montreal (http://www.journaldemontreal.com/2018/04/29/la-voix--miriam-jonathan-yann-et-yama-passent-en-finale):
------------------------------------------------------
"La Voix": Miriam, Jonathan, Yann and Yama go to the final
Miriam Baghdassarian, Jonathan Freeman, Yann Brassard and Yama Laurent are the four finalists of the sixth edition of "La Voix" broadcast on TVA. They were chosen by the public and their coach, Sunday evening, during the semifinal of the show.
Spontaneous and intense, Miriam Baghdassarian delivered a vitaminized version of "Il est où le bonheur" of the French Christophe Maé, which allowed her to win the hearts of Quebecers. She took away 76% of the public votes. Alex Nevsky told her that one needed her dynamism and freshness in the musical landscape of Quebec. Her coach remains always amazed by her talent. "You're only 18, I can not even dare to imagine what you'll do later," Lara Fabian said.
Félix Lemelin, for whom Lara Fabian really fell in love, sang "When We Were Young" by Adèle.
By singing Offenbach's "La voix que j’ai", Jonathan Freeman has introduced himself as he is, with his low, warm, if particular voice. The audience was receptive to the sensitivity of the young singer, from Sept-Îles, who gathered 59% of the votes. "Your voice takes us inside, that's what touches us," Lara Fabian said after his performance, while his coach Éric Lapointe was proud and told him to continue singing in French.
Karine Labelle did not disappoint with a very heartfelt interpretation of Aerosmith's "I Do not Want to Miss a Thing".
Stolen by Alex Nevsky in Lara Fabian's team, Yann Brassard continues to amaze and seduce the audience at each of his appearances. With his interpretation of "Superstition", he once again showed the extent of his talent. The public chose him at 62%. "I am a very proud coach," exclaimed Alex Nevsky. You have so much confidence, it's beautiful. You are hatching, I find you your place. "
With great intensity, Édouard Lagacé interpreted "On s’est aimé à cause".
Once again, Yama Laurent completely overthrew the hearts of the public who overwhelmingly (73%) voted for her, after her so intense rendition of "A Change Is Gonna Come" . "You're bigger than music," Lara Fabian said after her performance. If there's a voice here, it's you. "
Her coach, Garou, remained almost speechless, throwing a very sincere: "Yama, thank you for being here."
Samuel Babineau lived quite a moment in jamming with the musicians around a fire during his performance of "La ballade de Jean Battler".
In opening the night, Roch Voisine sang some of his big hits with the semi-finalists.
"The moment with the candidates has passed very quickly. It's always a little frustrating because we spend more time preparing the number than doing it."
Since he spent the last months in Europe, Roch did not really know the candidates.
"I thought they were humble, kind and I was pleasantly surprised. I participated in other shows elsewhere in the same concept and it was not the same thing. They are aware that what they are experiencing is exceptional."
On the contrary, Roch Voisine admits that it would be difficult to occupy the coach chair.
"I always say it's hard to live up to the image you're projecting. When I work, I am very direct, sometimes a little stiff. I do not think I have the right profile. The coaches have to walk on eggs all the time, that's normal. The people in front of them do not do this job. I am much less diplomatic. That does not mean I'm not fair, but less diplomatic."
--------------------------------------------------------
And there was a brief article on Miriam herself (http://www.journaldemontreal.com/2018/04/29/miriam-de-la-voix-passe-au-finale-en-chantant-la-chanson-que-tout-le-monde-chante-depuis-un-mois#cxrecs_s), translated below:

Miriam from "La Voix" goes to the finals by playing the song that everyone has been singing for a month
Miriam Baghdassarian has tackled the song of the moment for the semifinal of La Voix : "Il est où le bonheur", of the French singer Christophe Maé.
This piece brought her luck, since the young candidate, who was still learning French when she went to the Blind Audition, became the finalist of the Lara Fabian team.
She took back 76% of the popular vote, leaving no chance to her rival, Felix Lemelin.
The latter had chosen to redo the song “When We Were Young” by British singer Adele.
---------------------------------------------------------------
My personal feeling is that the finals will be a contest between Miriam and Yama, two very distinctive singers who are as different as they could be. It may come down to how much of the audience likes each their particular styles of song.
There was one article about Lara in connection with La Voix (http://www.tvanouvelles.ca/2018/04/21/lara-fabian-une-coach-devouee); here’s the translation:
---------------------------------------------------------
Lara Fabian, a Dedicated Coach
The singer Lara Fabian draws up a balance sheet of the most positives of her first participation among the coaches at "La Voix". An experience that has exceeded her expectations.
Making "La Voix" will have been "one of the greatest joys I had in my career as an artist," said Lara Fabian. "Transmitting is something new for me, but it's my lighthouse on the horizon. That's what I want to do later. It gave me extraordinary intellectual, emotional and musical nourishment "
She was far from imagining living so many things by sitting down for the first time in the red chair. "You have to live fifteen hours in a row with us to understand what's going on. It's demanding, but the production team is impressive, and it's so nourishing. And see the heads of these children (laughs). See how they react, how their cells light up when the audience starts to applaud, their first contact with the public ... This is exceptional. The experience has totally exceeded my expectations."
This season, we talked a lot about chemistry between coaches. According to Lara Fabian, it is the combination of several factors. "I knew that Eric Lapointe is a particularly good human being, that Garou is a gentleman, intelligent, kind and humble. I did not know Alex Nevsky well, but I have not been surprised by his profound light. Me, I'm a team girl, and I like guys (laughs). We all have fun, we are all really happy to do that."
As for the reception of the public, she did not expect at all what happened. "It's like I'm gone on a long journey and when I come back, the door opens again with the same love I had left. Every day, I receive testimonials, whether at the market, at the Metro, when I take my daughter to school ... I would just like to thank everyone for their welcome. I am deeply moved by that."
[Then Lara talked about some of the candidates (at the time of the second quarter-final), but in addition about Miriam, the only one for whom here comments are still topical…]
Miriam: "I love her so much. She is an 18-year-old young girl with the power of a dragon. In five, six, ten years, when she will open out, she will be astonished. I think she will go very far. 'La Voix' is a punctuation in her life, but she will realize later that it was the premise of what she was going to open up in her. Music is really in her DNA. "

‘La Voix Extra’ on Sunday had a nice feature on Miriam. BTW, if one wants to see that, or any of the shows (with some delay), check out www.nabbox.tv/. It helps if you make a donation. The rule is that to be able to download any of the videos, you have to leave a message – many people just say, ‘thank you’.
Some videos of last week’s quarter finals have now become available on youtube, and for Lara’s three team members, one can see them at:
Felix: www.youtube.com/watch?v=XlJFSt4wSQk
Elodie: www.youtube.com/watch?v=NZq0BZal2D0
Kelly: www.youtube.com/watch?v=2T0eI6eQX90
As implied by the article in the press last week, it does appear as if Lara was won over particularly by Felix’s choice of the song “Angel”, which she felt was 6 points better than Kelly’s very competent performance.
In other news, Yann Perrot on the LFIAG Select site posted a link to Lara’s singing of Adagio in Italian, being played as the background for fireworks,
www.youtube.com/watch?v=iEu0vveI1So&feature=share
It brings to mind that of all the places Lara is going on this tour, Italy is not one of them (and she still has never given a concert in her ‘native’ country). It was initially – in the tentative schedule that was available at the beginning of May 2017, Lara was to perform in Milan on April 15th, and Naples on April 17th. These shows, in addition to ones in Vienna and Ljubljana (Slovenia) apparently fell victim to the programming schedule for La Voix, and were not made up. It was noted last week that the total number of ‘Camouflage’ concert dates fell short of the original expectations. The requirement to be in Quebec for La Voix is certainly one of the major reasons why. And this is not the only way “La Voix” has undercut “Camouflage”, since it deprived it, in general, of time, promotion, and focus. Lara considers the opportunity to move back to Quebec and be in La Voix as a great gift which has certainly made her very happy. On the flip side it was bad luck for her first English album in more than a decade (and perhaps her English language career) that it happened right at this point in time.
Interesting photo: Lara’s, of her getting ‘made up’ for her appearance on the semi-finals of La Voix, from Lara’s Instagram account,
with the caption, “In preparation for the semi-finals of #lavoix!”
So next Sunday is the final show of La Voix, in which the audience gets the only ‘voice’. After that, Lara goes back on tour, starting on May 17th in Amsterdam, and then her two shows in Greece. Following that she has several weeks off before the next concert – she might not know what to do with herself! One imagines that if the new French album is to be out in the fall, this would be a good time to focus on it. There is also the question of once La Voix, and Lara, are off the ‘airwaves’, how much exposure will she continue to get through the auspices of TVA? We’ll see, but at least there is one more week of her being in the public eye, and clearly enjoying herself.
