Lara was back with her family in Quebec this past week, but there were still a number of interesting media events. First, finishing up from her last week in the States, her appearance on the Hallmark Channel show “Home and Family” was aired. It can be seen at:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=xDPY1Wm8Rn4
Lara was her usual great guest, and she and Moh Denebi performed their acoustic version of “We Are the Flyers”. In a sense it is ironic, that this is done with only a guitar, while Lara’s tour show has no guitars at all on stage, a rarity in this day and age.
She posted some nice pictures from the show, at:

and a few more photos at:

We have a few ‘left over’ videos from last weeks' concerts. First a wonderful set covering the show from Chicago:

Part 2: www.youtube.com/watch?v=IsUt1qFzCi8
Part 3: www.youtube.com/watch?v=YIwbw4PMzro
Part 4: www.youtube.com/watch?v=-bFvoZ3ZTbw
And then a remaining song (not available in time for last week’s Update) from Los Angeles:
Je suis malade: www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXHzgIr8wCU
While in Washington, Lara was on the RM (Roger Muntu) Show on Voice of America Africa. It can be found (in French) at:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=NZdQ7fHXmmE
and in English at:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hAQk83xKAKM
Here are the main points (from both the French and English interviews):
**Lara is nourished by the response she’s gotten on the tour so far;
**She indicated that the tour would have 37 dates, and would end in Brazil in late September and then, finally, in Montreal;
**Lara said it was the first time she would sing in concert in Brazil (she was on TV shows there back in ~2000);
**She discussed how Camouflage is her favorite song on the album, about the masks that we have to drop at some point, even though they do help us to fit in;
**She likes to alternate songs in French and English;
**She wants to age gracefully with new current styles (electro-pop);
**She thinks people do love her new album;
**When working on a new album, she needs to be connected, in a family-way, with her co-writers;
**George Perris is a favorite European singer;
**and while there are many possibilities for an American singer, she chooses Michael Jackson;
**As for favorite African singer, she chose Youssou N’Dour; here’s what Wikipedia says about him: “Youssou N'Dour is a Senegalese singer, songwriter, composer, occasional actor, businessman, and politician. In 2004, Rolling Stone magazine described him as, "perhaps the most famous singer alive" in Senegal and much of Africa.”
**On hearing that people in Africa, even in villages, sing her songs, Lara said she’s so lucky. [Not counting Egypt, there are some 360 people from Africa (chiefly from Algeria, Tunisia and Morocco) who have ‘liked’ this site].
**Her goal now is to transmit her knowledge in a school, in a safe area;
**Lara sang happy birthday to him (Quebecois version);
**She danced with him to Chameleon.
It is nice that Brazil and Quebec do get to see this wonderful show; better late than never!
Then there was the second round of blind auditions from La Voix, in which Lara picked up three more singers for her ‘team’.
First, here’s the picture Lara put on her FB site:

She wrote (in translation):
-----------------------------------------------------------
“While watching La Voix tonight, I relived some very strong emotions in me. What a privilege to have before me such great talents.
I welcome this evening in my team three talents as distinct as astounding:
Miriam, this high-voltage voice. I could only give all to advance at her side in this beautiful adventure.
Pamela, by her incredible spectrum, seems to be connected directly up there when she sings with such an impressive passion.
Redgee, a voice not possible which possessed more notes than on a piano! It was good to hear him and see him again tonight!
My heart welcomes you with a sincere joy in #teamLara

for Pamela Boyer:

for Redgee:

Mirian had a preference for English (hard for the other judges to beat Lara in that). In the case of Pamela, Lara was the only choice, but Pamela said it was a great pleasure (to have Lara as her coach). One thing for sure – when Lara wants a singer, she makes no effort to hide it! In the case of Pamela, one wonders if the other judges were afraid to go up against Lara, who is now assembling a strong team. TVA must be thrilled to have someone like her who seems to be made for this competitive TV show (in Quebec).
However, not all are appreciative of Lara’s “enthusiasm”. In La Presse (http://www.lapresse.ca/debats/chroniques/hugo-dumas/201802/19/01-5154375-descendre-les-envolees-dune-octave.php) there is the following (translated) article (showing only the parts that concern Lara and the other judges):
---------------------------------------------
Descending the flights of an octave
Hugo Dumas
"I like Lara Fabian's combativeness, as well as her precise vocabulary, but she has to take down her poetic enthusiasm an octave. Question of credibility, "writes our columnist Hugo Dumas.
When Lara Fabian told VRAK Mix 4 winner Redgee, 21, that she had as much to learn from him as she could teach him, I had a long sigh in front of my TV.
Serious? A singer with as much profession, talent and albums sold as Lara Fabian who pronounces these words much too intense for the quality of the performance of the young man? It's refused.
Of course, these great lyrical flights are part of the game of seduction with competitors, which the Belgian-Canadian singer won, by the way. Well done, Lara. But this outbidding of superlatives and compliments becomes repetitive and tiresome. We do not believe it at all (although Lara, she, still believes in it).
We say to ourselves: well yes, yes, the coaches are still trying to sell us the next Maria Callas, while we know very well that this person does not have at all the artistic qualities that have been attributed to him. Do not take viewers for nonos. They have ears, too.
To the Mix 4 champion Lara Fabian also said that his voice contained more notes than a Bösendorfer piano. It's big as an affirmation, that. A piano called standard aligns 88 keys, while an imperial model of the manufacturer Bösendorfer has 97.
Throughout yesterday evening, we were entitled, according to coach Fabian, to a holistic voice that goes to the sky, to a laser beam voice, to a voice that has the ability to transmit light and even to a prism through which pass all the lights of its dimension. Excessive, perhaps? In any case, not always clear.
I like the combativity of Lara Fabian, as well as her precise vocabulary, but she must tone down her poetic enthusiasm an octave. Question of credibility.
For his part, Alex Nevsky abuses the word "man" is almost a tick of language. Man, you should come with me. Thank you, man. Bravo, man.
Garou remains cool and relaxed, without promising the sea and the world to the candidates on the stage. That's why I appreciate him. Even though his reply appeared written in advance, Éric Lapointe launched a very good: "If we could steal a voice, you would need to block your doors and put a good alarm system, because I would go for a ride”. Sacred Eric. We love him.
--------------------------------------------------------
In other news, Lara was at the “date karaoke bar” in Montreal, and there are videos of her singing “Je t’aime” there, with the crowd; one can see it at:
www.facebook.com/datekaraoke.bar/videos/2002152806720245/
and also
www.youtube.com/watch?v=TuHH4-YkoT0
In addition there is another youtube video discussing this, at
www.youtube.com/watch?v=BuDVbRjMV5g
It was reported that Lara appeared suddenly, and after she was finished, disappeared just as quickly. The owner of the karaoke bar said stars from Star Academy and La Voix often appear there (he joked it’s necessary for them to sing well).
You may remember, Lara is to be one of the three invitees for the Canadian program “La Vraie Nature” (“https://videos.tva.ca/page/lavraienature). The show featuring her will air March 4th. [note, it will be available primarily in Canada].
Interesting photo(s) of the week: An extremely beautiful picture of Lara associated with La Voix, from the Lara Fabian Mexico site:
www.facebook.com/LaraFabianfromMexico/photos/a.556367684417296.1073741826.556364357750962/1585081231545931/?type=3&theater
While in L.A., Lara posted a picture of herself on her Instagram site,
http://instagram.com/p/BfHGiN6ntKU
with the caption, “Wisteria Lane.. Desperate Housewives…Vous vous souvenez? Big kiss to my dear friend @evalongoriaofficial”
And on ending her U.S. tour, Lara posted this picture:
www.facebook.com/larafabianofficial/photos/a.622966977744803.1073741829.201065806601591/1925264257515062/?type=3&theater
with the caption, “Thank you Los Angeles, Chicago, Washington D.C., New York City and Miami for this magic start of the “Camouflage World Tour”. Returning now home to Montreal, to rest a few days.. and then, Russia and Ukraine!”
And, yes, Lara has concerts later this week, starting in Moscow this weekend, (2/24,2/25); St. Petersburg (2/27); and then three in Kiev (3/2 – 3/4). Hopefully she will dress very warmly…in Moscow the temperatures are supposed to range from -2°F at night, to 11°F during the day. Perhaps when Lara is there she will meet with Igor Krutoi – and maybe they can even discuss whether there will ever be a Mademoiselle Zhivago album #2 (which was supposed to be ‘ready’ years ago, and which we may have heard some songs from at various New Wave Festivals). With an upcoming French album on her agenda, it may be too much to hope for; but Lara might consider that another album for that market – Russia and eastern Europe – could well be a lucrative venture, following the English and French releases. If nothing else, the Russian speaking audiences she found at some of her venues in the States could serve to emphasize that.
And we can look forward to the next round of blind auditions for La Voix. Lara now has five candidates; each coach must recruit 12 singers to their team in the blind auditions to progress onto the battle phase. She’s off to a good start!
