An exciting week for Lara and her fans as the ‘Camouflage’ world tour opened, first in Miami on 2/2, and then in New York last night. [For those of you who plan to go to one of the shows, and prefer to be surprised, I strongly advise you to skip the rest of this section, up to the double line…].
Starting first with the show in Miami. The performance lasted about 1:45 minutes, with several musical interludes performed by a band of (mostly) five musicians. There were two backup singers.
The setlist in Miami was reported to be as follows: Chameleon; Growing Wings; Keep the Animals Away; If I Let You Love Me; We Are the Flyers; Humana; Painting in the Rain; J'ai zappé (remix); We Are the Storm; Je t'aime; Choose What You Love Most (Let It Kill You); Broken Vow; Pas sans toi; Je suis malade; Camouflage; I'm Breakable; Perfect; Communify; I Will Love Again; Requiem pour un fou; Adagio [there's some uncertainty on the order of the last three songs; this list was as it was performed in NY].
As can be seen, all 12 of the new songs were included, as well as three of her most popular English songs from her first English album. There were also six French songs, again mostly the very popular ones (except “J’ai zappe” which was likely chosen for its fast pace). It was nice to see ‘Humana’ resurface, again fitting the pace and percussion-heavy show. ‘Requiem pour un fou’ was in homage to the passing of Johnny Hallyday. The number of French songs might indicate the expectation (or knowledge) on Lara’s part that despite the locale, and the language of her new record, a significant part of the attending audience is French speaking. Or simply a desire to provide fans with the favorites they want to hear. We’ll see how/if this changes in other locations.
The audience reaction to the concert was extremely favorable, as can be seen on Lara’s website. Fans appeared very satisfied.

Lara Fabian - Camouflage World Tour Kicks Off in Miami
MIAMI - February 5, 2018 - (Newswire.com)
Superstar Lara Fabian's highly-anticipated world tour kicked off in Miami with rave reviews and heads to NYC tonight! After selling more than 20 million albums worldwide, Fabian returns to the international scene with her thirteenth studio album, "CAMOUFLAGE" and world tour, which debuted in Miami and now heads to New York, Washington D.C., Chicago, and Los Angeles, before hitting another 36 cities worldwide.
"I am thrilled to be in the US," says Fabian. "Miami was amazing; there was so much energy from my fans! I can't wait to share the songs from my new album in the other cities."
The Camouflage World Tour is visually stunning and innovative. The set list is based on the new album, as well as music from Lara's previous English albums, and her international hits.
THE CAMOUFLAGE WORLD TOUR is Lara Fabian's first tour based on her English-language album "Camouflage", which was released on October 6, 2017. Co-written and co-composed by Fabian -- together with Moh Denebi and Sharon Vaughn, and produced by Moh Denebi (Stockholm/Los Angeles) -- "Camouflage" revisits Fabian's vocal-pop roots combined with a contemporary progressive pop sound that is Moh Denebi's signature. The first single from the album, "Growing Wings", was released on August 4, 2017.
Fabian first came to the scene with the release of her self-titled US album in 1999. The album, written and produced by some of the most respected figures in the music industry including Glen Ballard and Walter Affanasief, featured several titles that topped the Billboard charts, such as the No. 1 Billboard dance/pop hit "I Will Love Again".
Other titles, such as "Adagio", "Love by Grace", and "Broken Vow" were global hits covered by many artists. Following her initial success, she released a second English album in 2004 titled, "A Wonderful Life" featuring "Review my Kisses", written by Desmond Child, "I Guess I Loved You" and "No Big Deal". The dance/pop song "I Am Who I Am", remixed by Hex Hector quickly became an underground club hit.

There were also a number of pictures made available. The FTI Agency presented a collection of some 31 photos, both from the concert itself and of Lara’s fans. They can be seen at:

Then last night the basically sold-out New York concert took place, and again the audience response was extremely positive. Having attended that event, here are some quick impressions:
**A very professional production, everything seemed to work right, quite an achievement for it being just the second show (and without all that much time for rehearsals).
**The show itself was spectacular, with something for everybody, in that it covered both the new album, and ‘old favorites’.
**The live versions of the new songs were all excellent, and showed how good those songs really are. It would be nice to hear her record a ‘live album’ of this tour (in addition to any full concert video).
**If one had never seen Lara before, on watching her perform the new songs (and a few of the older ones), one would be forgiven for thinking she’s an electro-pop performer. To put this in perspective, of the five musicians, one was the drummer, and another was a conga player!
**On some of Lara’s old songs, it was just her and the pianist, and the atmosphere was much more intimate, with Lara often sitting.
**While the new songs were highly musical and very entertaining, the most emotionally involving part of the concert remained, yes, Lara’s older ballads. She had to notice that almost every one of the standing ovations came for those songs (except for I Will Love Again, which was also received with ‘gusto’, and the wonderful rendition of the Johnny Hallyday song).
**Another very spectacular part of the concert were the visuals projected on the screen behind her. Whoever came up with them deserves an award for ‘visual effects’! Highly creative, they augmented the songs.
**It wasn’t clear in the beginning how good Lara’s voice was, because most of the new songs don’t present opportunities for her to fully use it. Then when she had her first chance – Je t’aime – it sounded like she wasn’t fully warmed up. But after that her vocals took off, and she was as good as one could have hoped.
**It’s interesting to speculate as to which of the new songs could make it into ‘another concert’, i.e., for upcoming albums. As you may have noticed, albums go by without much remaining from them in terms of live performances in subsequent shows (e.g., Neuf, Le Secret). My guess would be that ‘Chameleon’ may very well have a long shelf-life, for it fulfills the up-tempo portion of a setlist.
**One can strongly recommend that if you get a chance, come to one of these concerts. You will get to see Lara like one normally doesn’t see her – the electropop performer – and also the Lara you know very well and love.

As far as the rest of this week’s tour is concerned, Lara’s team posted the following announcement:
---------------------------------------
A limited number of "Lara Fabian VIP Experience" tickets now available for LOS ANGELES (Pasadena), February 11th. Don't miss the chance to assist to the rehearsals in the afternoon, and to meet Lara for a short "meet and greet" backstage after the show. ("VIP Experience" tickets do NOT include concert tickets / access to the concert, which need to be purchased separately).
---------------------------------------
That means that all of the U.S. shows will now have had the ‘VIP’ experience, and these have sold very well. As far as concert ticket sales are concerned, Washington D.C. still looks like it is only about 1/3 full, Chicago a little more than half, while L.A. is probably at ~60%. People don’t really know what they’re missing…
In other news, another major event to have occurred in the past week was the release of the ‘remix’ version of “Camouflage”. It can be heard on the various digital music services (Spotify, Deezer, etc.), or on youtube, e.g.,
Radio edit: www.youtube.com/watch?v=b7dIaCN4Pek
Extended version: www.youtube.com/watch?v=2l4PlmIXkMw
They can also each be purchased for $0.99 each on iTunes and amazon, if you want to contribute to Lara’s sales total for the single.
One can understand why Lara’s people were so excited about its release – it is truly sensational. The song was made for this sort of remix, which emphasizes the components it already contained in a more muted form.
An article about it appeared in “aficia” (http://www.aficia.info/actualite-musique/lara-fabian/139551); here’s the translation:

"Chameleon": Lara Fabian revisits her new single with Tomer G. And it's dancing!
Lara Fabian put on the title "Chameleon" to defend the colors of her new album Camouflage . It's for listening on aficia!
Lara Fabian is giving this Friday, February 2nd the kickoff of a world tour - Camouflage World Tour - in Miami, across the Atlantic, following the release late last year of Camouflage . First album since Ma vie dans la tienne (2015), this project is also the first written entirely in the language of Shakespeare after A Wonderful Life, in 2004. For this new work, the singer of "J’y crois encore” is surrounded by Swede Moh Denebir and American Sharon Vaughn (Måns Zelmerlöw, Helena Paparizou ...), looking for as she explains in the ‘making-of’ to tie a classical orchestration with a resolutely modern sound .
The DJ of Britney Spears and Mylène Farmer
Camouflage contains 12 custom-made pieces, like so many cases for Lara's nostalgic, romantic and luminous thoughts. "Growing Wings" and "Choose What You Love Most" were the spearheads of the promotion and now give way to "Chameleon". On the occasion of her first American show, the new coach of "La Voix" (Quebec version of "The Voice") presents a new version of her song produced by the Israeli DJ Tomer G (Britney Spears, Mylène Farmer ...). What gives him every chance to be broadcast in clubs?
Unique concert on June 16th
Lara Fabian thus offers a more muscular version of a song already dancing, but which primarily retains the attention for the message it conveys. "We can be chameleons" repeats the artist on a unifying refrain, urging us to take our destiny in hand and live as we see fit. It remains to be seen whether this will be enough to allow Lara Fabian to get a new hit in France, waiting to see her on the stage of the Zénith de Paris on June 16th . A unique date!
-----------------------------------------------------------
Another article concerning it appeared on the site of Cherie.fm (http://www.cheriefm.fr/artistes/lara-fabian/actualites/lara-fabian-sort-enfin-son-nouveau-single-354953). Here again is its translation:

Lara Fabian finally released her new single!
Lara Fabian is back with a new single, "Chameleon". A title with electro-pop accents that may well make you dance!
Lara Fabian had already signed her comeback in October with her new album, "Camouflage" , and now she returns with a new single, "Chameleon", from this opus. This is of course a song in English, as the title suggests, and just like the entirety of her album.
Lara Fabian sticks to her time
Lara Fabian's heart is not to be old-fashioned, and that's why she wants her music to be of her era. In fact, it is an electro-pop title that she offers us here, and it already gives us a desire to dance as the weekend approaches!
Lara Fabian soon on tour
To promote the release of this new album, Lara Fabian will be well-heard on tour around the world. Beginning of hostilities: February 3 in Miami, Florida. And for France, it will be necessary to wait until June 16, because the tour of Lara Fabian will stop at the Zenith of Paris on that date. To note on your calendars!
-------------------------------------------------
And an article in Charts in France:
--------------------------------------------------------
"Chameleon": Lara Fabian connects with a single electro-pop for the dance floor
To promote her last album in English "Camouflage", Lara Fabian called upon the producer Tomer G and unveils an electro remix of its title "Chameleon". To discover on Pure Charts!
On October 6, Lara Fabian made her return to the bins with "Camouflage", fully sung in English. A habit for one who has in the past known great success in the world charts with "Adagio" or "I Will Love Again". "When you make an international career and you sing in several languages, you have a little duty to "chameleonize" onself. It's completely in my nature. I come from several concrete origins, I speak several languages since I was little, I always listened to all the music that my diverse cultures of my family proposed to me. It's natural for me to be one and the same while singing in many languages," said Lara Fabian in an interview with Pure Charts, unveiling the colors of this new project. “It sticks well to its time. it is well of its time. It mixes the organic side, acoustic and electro side, respecting the old code to write a song that one can despite all sing just with a guitar or a piano .
"We can be chameleons"
Introduced by the splendid clip of "Growing Wings" - shot in Iceland "- and by the ballad " Choose What You Love Most ", the album" Camouflage "will give rise to a great world tour which will start on February 2 in Miami, before stopping in New York, Los Angeles, Moscow, Berlin, Milan, London, Barcelona or Paris, June 16 at the Zenith. The opportunity for Lara Fabian to prove that she remains a modern artist perhaps interpreting the new version of her next single. It's on the song "Chameleon" that the new juror of "The Voice" in Canada has set her sights. Produced by Moh Denebi (Loreen, Måns Zelmerlöw), the title already had a well-designed electro-pop but for its launch on radio, Lara Fabian wanted to propose a more muscular version, remixed by Tomer G (Mylène Farmer ). "We can be chameleons / Change at our convenience" she sings in the middle of a storm of digital beats. Warm up the dance floor!
--------------------------------------------------
If Lara has any chance for a ‘hit single’ in English from this album, this would appear to be a very good candidate. What we don’t know is if she has that possibility, i.e., whether any station will play an English single from her, regardless of how good it is…as the first article states, even in France, it remains to be seen. But reaction so far has been very positive.
Actually, the original, album version was used by TVA to promote their ‘World of Dance’ program in Quebec, as can be seen at:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=yWPlgqSL6hU
And that brings us around to the other main issue, Lara’s participation in La Voix. A video of Lara with Charles LaFortune can be found at:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_V7eRjEM-4
They chose slips of paper with questions on them for each other and one for Lara was, what pleased her most about being a coach? As usual Lara said she wants to be in a position to transmit what she has learned. She said she forgets she’s seated in the ‘red chair’, she’s just empathetically connected to the talent, and then later has to sit back and decide what she can contribute.
Another set of ‘teasers’ can be found at:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=LhGwyHFO9ok
Again the show starts February 11th (when Lara is in L.A.).
Interesting photo of the week: After the Miami concert, Lara posted this:
www.facebook.com/larafabianofficial/photos/a.622966977744803.1073741829.201065806601591/1909804449061043/?type=3&theater
with the caption, “Merci Miami..Thank you for a beautiful beginning of this new journey..”. You can see one of the many spectacular visuals from the show behind Lara.
This coming week Lara will conclude the U.S. portion of her tour. It will be too bad if she doesn’t fill the houses in the three remaining cities; the show is worthy of doing so, and it’s almost a guarantee that people will leave very satisfied. Congratulations to her and hear Team for having put together such a successful production while everything else was going on. Meanwhile, we can hope for more videos/pictures from the recently completed shows, as well as the new ones.
