This past week had a potpourri of news in what was somewhat of a lull before the pickup of activity later this coming week (and presumably continuing on through the new album’s release in about a month). There was some scattered info concerning the album, the remix of the single, the tour, as well as a general interview, followed by some more news about the film ‘Cello’.
Lara showed a picture of a test pressing of a vinyl record of Camouflage,

with the caption, “Sounds good, even with a Gramophone.” Hence the album will be available on vinyl as well, although that doesn’t seem to be offered by amazon.com or FNAC at this moment.

And me, I’m not usually much of a fan of dance remixes as most of them are pretty unimaginative, and often only created to breathe life into a dying single.
Offer Nissim’s dance remix of Lara Fabian’s ‘Growing Wings‘ I like, though.
Because it is beautifully composed — with its frantic beat and fast-paced intro that fades off as Fabian’s vocals first emerge strong and slow, only to gather its strength and rush off again all intense, vibrant and dramatic with Lara Fabian now all echo-y, frantic and synth-y above it.
In fact, Offer Nissim’s dance remix of ‘Growing Wings‘ is a track I would actually dance to, and one I can see doing very well in the clubs. Come on, it’s a song that actually makes you want to dance — and, thus, it succeeds where a lot of dance remixes do not.
As for Offer Nissim, he has been offering his talents to do official remixes for years for some of the world’s most popular singers — Madonna, Christina Aguilera, Pet Shop Boys, Beyonce, Shirley Bassey, Jennifer Lopez, and Billie Ray Martin to name a few.
Now, with ‘Growing Wings‘ he has added Lara Fabian to his repertoire and, hopefully, it won’t be the last time.

There has been a lot of publicity concerning Lara’s five concerts in the U.S. for this new English album; but equally important, if not more so, is Lara’s attention to western Europe, an area close at hand to her but surprisingly ignored for much of her career. Besides the 5 concerts in Germany, she will also be singing in Spain, Italy, Austria, and Slovenia as well as the Netherlands, some of these for the first time, i.e., countries that have not seen much of her when she’s toured for her French albums. The English language work allows her to fill in this noticeable gap. The main countries missing from this mix are the U.K., and the Nordic countries – ironically, locales that she visited with the recent French album or on the ‘Best of’ tour, but for whom this album would be much more suitable. Apparently Lara’s people have not gotten the right proposals, though it’s hard to understand why promoters in these regions would have come up with something suitable for her French language concerts but not for the new English one. Very strange!

LF: This title is also the title of one of the songs on the album, and that speaks just about this subject ...
How would you define this album?
LF: An album full of different colors, a pop sound, made in Sweden by Moh Denebi, may be unexpected for many of my fans, they who are used to listening to me in a register more "French songs" or "classic ballad ". At the same time, it is an album that is in logical continuity with my previous English albums, which also reflected the sound of their era. And written texts in collaboration with the magnificent Sharon Vaughn, a legend of American music.

Since the title ‘La Difference', 20 years ago, you regularly intervened to defend the LGBT rights (‘Deux ils, deux elles in 2012, the sublime photo of Olivier Ciappa with Eva Longoria, you also participated in Montréal Pride last year). What explains your interest in defending LGBT rights?
LF: My commitment to LGBT rights comes from a sense of justice, that I carry since my childhood. Equality of rights and something that is not negotiable is a human right. Beyond legal rights, respect for men and women, irrespective of their sexual identity, race or creed, is something that is indisputable. I am not an activist for another cause than that of human rights and the cause of love. I am pleased to see progress on the legal rights of the LGBT community in France, Germany and elsewhere. But there is still a long way to go.

Undoubtedly, Lara has had some successful moments with English language songs, so there was truth in her answer. But it is equally true that the English language career has not met her expectations, or those of her fans, up ‘til now; perhaps this record will put her on the path to rectifying that.

Jeremy Ch on the LFIAG Select site pointed out that at least one of them has been recorded, by Sumi Jo (Angels Pass Away, lyrics by Lara, music by Krutoy), and that Lara’s duet with Sumi Jo (on ‘Sons and Daughters’) and her ‘triplet’ with Sumi Jo and Dmitri Hvorostovsky (on 'Ti Amo Cosi') are on the album as well. Lara’s single, ‘Choose What You Love Most’ is due to be released on Friday (9/8); when it is, a thread will be posted here inviting you to provide your opinions of it. The Lara Fabian – PHQ site posed a related short video/audio, in effect choosing ‘what they loved most’ for a single, a medley of powerful singing from Adagio, Intoxicated, and Parce que tu pars. From Lara’s comments, including those in the interview above, one has reason to doubt that will be the approach for this song, but we’ll soon find out. (It’s reported that a music video will be released later). On that same day, we’ll apparently get to hear Lara’s rendition of “Remember Me”, from the soundtrack of ‘Cello’. If so, then the contrast of the two recordings should be most interesting - please feel to post about that, as well

That is the first we heard about Lara’s aunt…we obviously have the greatest sympathy for her, and for what she’s going through…
And speaking of recordings…remember the songs Lara sang at the New Wave Festival over the course of several years (2013, 2014) that she has never recorded (Furious; Running; Yin and Yang; Angels Pass Away), songs written with Igor Krutoy? Jeremy Ch on the LFIAG Select site pointed out that at least one of them has been recorded, by Sumi Jo (Angels Pass Away, lyrics by Lara, music by Krutoy), and that Lara’s duet with Sumi Jo (on ‘Sons and Daughters’) and her ‘triplet’ with Sumi Jo and Dmitri Hvorostovsky (on 'Ti Amo Cosi') are on the album as well. BTW, Lara will not be going to the New Wave Festival in Sochi, Russia this year; one suspects it is simply a matter of her concentrating on the new album and related publicity.

Lara’s single, ‘Choose What You Love Most’ is due to be released on Friday (9/8); when it is, a thread will be posted here inviting you to provide your opinions of it. The Lara Fabian – PHQ site posed a related short video/audio, in effect choosing ‘what they loved most’ for a single, a medley of powerful singing from Adagio, Intoxicated, and Parce que tu pars. From Lara’s comments, including those in the interview above, one has reason to doubt that will be the approach for this song, but we’ll soon find out. (It’s reported that a music video will be released later). On that same day, we’ll apparently get to hear Lara’s rendition of “Remember Me”, from the soundtrack of ‘Cello’. If so, then the contrast of the two recordings should be most interesting - please feel to post about that, as well

And there will be more promotional work up-coming: Lara will be doing a series of promo appearances on TV and radio shows, and press interviews in Belgium, France, Switzerland, Germany and Austria in September and October (the U.S. will be targeted at a later date); there is an unofficial report saying that the new album was sent to radio stations for promotional purposes at the beginning of this month.
