Lara began her last long series of concerts in France on the ‘Ma vie dans la tienne’ tour, in Niort. It got generally very good reviews, although there were reports that Lara was a bit sick though it didn’t detract from the positive comments. Particular mention was made of ‘Non coupable’ (which due to its inclusion only on the ‘re-release’ of ‘Ma vie dans la tienne’ has not gotten the attention it deserves. As we noted at the time, that may have been intentional on Lara’s part, to avoid irritating her ‘critics’). There are no videos available from this concert, although a nice picture from Niort, by Francois Taraud, is shown here (via Lara Fabian Greece, while available on other sites)

Her following concert in Yerres received uniformly excellent reviews, and we have a few videos from that:

And so it was, last night (Monday) Lara was in Marseilles; we have more videos from that performance (the vast majority due to Saïd-Nébil Oudjane, to whom we owe thanks, even if they often come with annoying off key ‘singing along’):

Lara’s team posted the ending of “Je t’aime” on her FB site, at: www.facebook.com/larafabianofficial/videos/1296651840376310/
along with the caption, “Marseille, thanks”. [Note, ‘Marseille’ in France is often spelled ‘Marseilles’ in English].

Again the concert got sterling reviews from the few who have commented so far; one can see how relaxed Lara is performing these songs, with a little more than one month left to go in this tour.
And so appropriately, the future is already beckoning. In the days leading up to these concerts, Lara’s team posted a picture of a street in Los Angeles in which the ‘’Chateau Marmont” can be seen [at least a French name ], with the accompanying caption, “The team is continuing the work on the English album”. This didn’t exactly say Lara was there, although that’s possibly the implication. When asked for a ‘press contact’ in Los Angeles, Lara’s team answered,, “Hello, the press contact will be that of the label (information to follow on the page)”. That didn’t clarify anything either, unless it will be ‘Nine Productions’, Lara’s own label. The one definitive statement that was provided was when they were asked when the album would be released, and answered “2017” (which we already knew).
One can speculate on what was being done in Los Angeles, realizing there are many possibilities. Obviously Lara or her ‘team’ could be working with studio musicians there, recording various tracks – today this is often done remotely. Or, if the record were further advanced, some or all of the tracks could be being mixed; artists often do prefer to be present for that, as they have their own ideas as to what to emphasize. Finally, if the record were finished, it could be being mastered, which would not involve their participation. There are numerous mixing studios in L.A. (e.g., soundbetter.com/s/los-angeles-ca; studiocitysound.com/Services/mixing-mastering/ ), and obviously many relevant studio musicians.
As an aside, it is interesting to note that when something like this is posted on Lara’s site, the fans writing in have two repeating themes: they ask if there will be any ‘ big’ songs, like ‘Adagio’ and ‘Broken Vow’ [or, really, ‘I Will Love Again’, though she didn’t write it]; and then they also say that their favorite English language album of hers is ‘A Wonderful Life’ (which doesn’t have any such ‘big’ songs…). It will be interesting to see in which direction Lara moves…my ‘bet’ is on the latter, though Lara has said in the past that the only way a European performer can sell a lot of records in the States is to have a very big hit that can ‘jump the pond’.
In that regard – we haven’t revisited the best-seller charts in quite some time, as there was no obvious reason to do so; neither Lara’s wonderful single ‘Ton desir’, nor her duet with Nathalia on ‘Razorblade’ really went anywhere, sales-wise. The best chance for ‘Ma vie dans la tienne’ to be on any chart, one year after its release, is of course in Belgium, but, alas, it is not there in the top 200 albums. There are other albums on that chart that have stayed around that long, or even much longer. For Lara in particular, if she wants to keep an album selling in a particular country, she probably needs to be present and performing there, something to keep in mind for the English album’s sales in the U.S.

Lara has four more concerts on this leg of her France tour, starting tonight in Voiron, followed by shows in Nice and Ajaccio (the first time ever in Corsica) and finally St.Omer [which oddly is not included in Lara’s ‘events’ section; we assume it is still on, as last Wednesday her team included it in their notice of upcoming shows]. She then has almost two weeks off before another set of ‘Ma vie dans la tienne’ concerts, in the ‘countries to the east’ and also Turkey. Thirteen concerts left in support of this album (not including any she gives next year, e.g., in Quebec).
