La belle province…
Obviously the big news this past week was Lara’s appearance at the ‘Montreal Pride’ LGBT festival. She gave it the proper run-up on her FB page, first with a picture of Montreal from the airplane as she flew in
www.facebook.com/larafabianofficial/photos/a.215378125170359.50343.201065806601591/1200531833321645/?type=3
then with a rehearsals picture [also see Rob Mancuso’s video, further below]
www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=10154531799469255&set=a.10150092510084255.279291.636394254&type=3
- note Manu Pitois at the piano, her long-time musical collaborator who lives in Montreal.
That was then followed by her appearance on ‘Rouge FM’ in Montreal, where she discussed her participation in the Gay Pride program. In the studio she played an acoustic version of ''Ton desir''; a video of this is available at:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=2XbuwQlOPcY
And then a picture of the sound check,
www.facebook.com/larafabianofficial/photos/a.215378125170359.50343.201065806601591/1202250679816427/?type=3
Lara also gave an interview with Sucre Sale, available at
www.youtube.com/watch?v=i2VlWb3n4c0
in which she talked about how she was brought up to respect others and how only love matters. Also, that as a world traveller, she sees that there are regions of the world where the battle for equal rights still must go on [and that includes even portions of France].
Finally the show itself in Montreal, before some 10,000 people plus an international Internet audience. Originally scheduled to begin at 10PM (local time) it actually didn’t start until ~10:45. This was annoying since it was advertised on Lara’s site and others as a ‘live streaming’ event, so people were on-line waiting to watch it (some of them from France/Belgian, where it was 4 AM). What made it worse was that once the show started, the demand quickly overwhelmed their streaming capacity, and the show blinked on and (mostly) off for the next 50 minutes. While that overload could be looked upon as a compliment to Lara, it might have been anticipated, and the result left a frustrated, somewhat sleep-deprived audience. [There have been a number of streaming concerts from big European festivals this summer, and while there have been occasional minor glitches, the sites were all better prepared].
However, all of that is of minor importance compared to Lara’s appearance at the event. The songs she sang (many from her current tour) were: ‘Immortelle’ [an interesting first choice; just what was Lara intending to say with it?], ‘Ton desir’, ‘La Difference’, ‘I Will Love Again’ (thanking fans for their loyalty), ‘Abba Medley’ (new on her current tour), ‘J’y crois encore’, ‘Je t’aime’, and ‘Je me souviens’. Lara indicated that she wanted to emphasize songs of love; of course; ‘La difference’ for its theme; and ending with the emotional ‘Je me souviens’, her ode to Quebec (and which she concluded with “I return”). But also she wanted to give people a ‘good time’, hence the upbeat songs in the middle of the set. She was in decent voice, and appeared very appreciate of being there – which made the audience even more appreciate of her being there.
Despite the streaming problems, there is a complete video via a locally recorded version from the festival, at
www.youtube.com/watch?v=HxkXZ5TpTSo
or alternatively,
www.facebook.com/fiertemontrealpride/videos/10153568068371261/
From the streaming itself, several songs were complete, available from
www.facebook.com/delisoft/ (with the ends or beginnings of other songs attached):
Ton desir

(and again, just the song itself, at www.youtube.com/watch?v=ORzRXWUyxcI)
Rob Mancuso, who has worked as Lara’s sound engineer and produced occasional ‘home-made’ videos of her - but not for the last 3 years – was back, and posted a video he took, first of the rehearsal (including Lara sitting on Gabriel’s knees), and then of Lara singing ‘Immortelle’, from a backstage view.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=nOlJg9iNX5w&feature=youtu.be
(He also indicated there would be other videos).
And there were a few others that fans made available:
Immortelle: www.youtube.com/watch?v=mx_vjwOj3tY
and also, www.youtube.com/watch?v=ljAejXVkAMU

La difference, I Will love Again + Abba Medley (from Nick Therrien): www.facebook.com/nicktherrien/videos/10210170909378795/
There were some nice pictures taken by Delisoft, at:

As one can see, Lara was dressed in a unique (for her) outfit…perhaps this was the surprise she had advertised? (more likely it was the Abba medley). After much discussion on some websites, it was concluded that she was wearing pants, rather than fishnet stockings and a short skirt…
Concerning other photos from Lara’s trip to Montreal: the Lara Fabian Voice of Passion site has collected a number of them, available at:
www.facebook.com/LaraFabianTheVoiceOfPassion/photos/a.1483526364996167.1073741877.720473304634814/1483526701662800/?type=3&theater
Prior to her show, Lara was featured in several press stories, including one with ‘The Journal of Montreal’ (http://www.journaldemontreal.com/2016/08/12/une-premiere-pour-lara-fabian). Here’s the translation:
-----------------------------------------------------------------
The performance that Lara Fabian will offer tonight as part of Pride Montreal will mark a first in the career of the artist. Indeed, one who is said to be near the LGBT community for years had never sung on the occasion of one of their big rallies.
"It's been a long time, in my life, that I feel totally united to the community", she affirms in an interview with one to whom we owe such pieces as ‘Duex ils, duex elles’ and ‘La difference’. "The fact, simply, talking about respect, love and tolerance, in my songs, binds me to it. "
The singer, whose last concert in the city dates back to January 2014, was pleased to have the opportunity to perform for her fans in Quebec in a unifying context.
"The idea is to celebrate our humanity, our tolerance and openness within a show that unites us all, eventually."
Offered as part of the show Diva Den, which will feature 12 other singers, Lara Fabian will deliver a presentation that should last about 45 minutes. ‘La difference’, ‘I Will Love Again’, and classics drawn from her entire repertoire are scheduled.
Shocked
The traditional moment of silence which will take place in the March on Sunday will be dedicated to the 49 victims of the killing of Orlando, a tragedy that struck the LGBT community in the heart, but also shook the artist.
"When a human being cuts oneself off from what is most precious that he has, that is to say from his love towards himself and towards others, that's when tragedies occur", she said. "When I see things like that, I am completely appalled and upset. "
One that will continue her world tour until December says she has the intention to continue to use her music to convey messages of openness and respect.
"It is sad to realize that we must still write songs which speak about openness to the world and openness of mind. At the same time, it is suitable for an artist to continue to be proactive and to do so with depth and lightness at the same time, in a space that could open minds."
--------------------------------------------------------------------
Most of all, in her coming for a two day visit from Europe, in her happiness in appearing at the event – she called it a gift they were giving her – and in her overall demeanor and respect for everybody involved, Lara made everyone feel important and better. Herself included.
‘Montreal Pride’ which lasted a week, was a big success. Including the parade, over 500,000 people participated in the activities. For the first time the Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, attended the parade. There are many more pictures (including a few of Lara) and more information available at the Montreal Pride website, www.fiertemontrealpride.com/.
In the little other news that was available, the larafabianweb site provided a link to an article on the ‘mfm radio’ site talking about the best moments of the year for Lara (http://mfmradio.fr/news/people/21498/les-moments-forts-de-l-annee-de-lara-fabian). Here’s the translation:

The Highlights of the Year for Lara Fabian
A busy year!
This year Lara Fabian has known a great success with her new songs and her album ‘Ma vie dans la tienne’.
Moreover, a reissue of the album (with CD and DVD), which is in partnership with MFM Radio has been available for several months. Her return to the music scene has therefore been a triumph and the singer can be proud of herself.
On the personal side, Lara Fabian looks very radiant and the star recently confided that she was living the best time of her life! Talented artist and fulfilled woman, she has everything to be happy and radiates happiness ... and it shows! Recently, the young woman has posted a picture of herself on the social networks on vacation and she is very sexy.
We hope for her that next year be as beautiful as this one and moreover you will find her elsewhere, perhaps on the red chair of "The Voice" at ‘the return’ [September], since Lara Fabian could take the place of Zazie!
------------------------------------------
Actually, ‘Montreal Pride’ may well be on Lara’s personal highlight list. And the year isn’t over yet – still time to get even better! However, it hasn’t all been rosy, what with the illnesses of Lara’s parents…even when so much is going well, one always has challenges...
This station has been very supportive of Lara’s latest French album; it will be interesting to see their response to the new English album, which Lara will presumably have a renewed opportunity to work on, for a little while at least.
Interesting photo(s) of the week: from Delisoft’s capture during Lara’s concert,

He also included the following (translated) statement:
------------------------------------------------------
“I hummed her songs during my childhood... with her voice she made me live strong emotions! After meeting her in person, I can tell you that @larafabianofficial is a human being who truly vibrates love!!!
Love, it always comes down to love. This is what will heal our world, disoriented and in search of peace...
You want to improve your life? Start by really loving yourself and express that love around you. You'll see, it works!”
----------------------------------------------------
Lara is presumably back home by now, but not for too long. In less than eight days she will be off to Turkey for two concerts as part of the ‘Ma vie dans la tienne’ series. She will be arriving in a country that is experiencing its own share of challenges “d’esprit”. Another test for love and music…
