Lara appeared to be on vacation for at least part of this last week, as indicated by the selfie she posted at
www.facebook.com/larafabianofficial/photos/a.215378125170359.50343.201065806601591/1164633183578177/?type=3&theater
with the caption ‘On the Beach’… [Hopefully it had nothing to do with the Nevil Shute novel of the same name, about a nuclear disaster overtaking the world..] This followed her indication last week that she was in Sweden, working on the new English album. One assumes her time this month, during which she has no scheduled appearances, will be split between those two activities.
[In the picture Lara is wearing an ‘Iceland’ cap…when asked if that meant she had been supporting that team over France in the [football] ‘Euros’, she (or her team) explained she had been rooting for France, and that it was a “cap of consolation” [France won, 5 to 2]. Actually Lara has said numerous times that she is not a big sports fan – at least not of [European] ‘football’; when asked on the show ‘Sucre Sale’ whether she preferred football or hockey, she answered ‘hockey’ with no hesitation. You may remember she even sang the Canadian National anthem at a hockey All Star game many years ago].

Lara Fabian on vacation: she dares sexy selfie on the beach
By Charles Rémi July 04, 2016 at 10:49
Lara Fabian enjoying her summer vacation in Italy. And the diva decided to share this moment of relaxation by posting a selfie on the beach in a swimsuit.
The year 2016 has not been easy for Lara Fabian. The singer, whose latest album 'Ma vie dans la tienne' was certified platinum in France, is touring all over Europe. But this summer, it is an opportunity for her to relax. As she told her fans on social networks, she is currently on holiday in the country where she grew up: Italy. Enjoying the sun and the beach, the singer of ‘J’y crois encore’ posted a photo of herself in a swimsuit.
Radiant, tanned complexion and a smile on her lips, she seems to forget all her worries of everyday life. Indeed, just a few days ago, she revealed to the Canadian Radio that her dad, Pierre Crokaert, is sick. "My father has fibromyalgia and they are almost intractable diseases in the sense that everything neurodegenerative is, there is no solution," she told the comedian Stéphane Rousseau during a joint interview. Fibromyalgia is a disease characterized by pain in the body.
And the father of Lara Fabian is not the only one sick. Her mom Luisa, aged 75, suffers from dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB), a syndrome that is similar to Parkinson's and Alzheimer's. It is with the song ‘L’oubli’ that the singer had decided to reveal the evil that haunts her mom. "I've realized that the stigma of this disease is terrible, the silence in which it locks some patients and their families is a real suffering. As a public figure, I can move consciences," she explained .
The vacations of Lara Fabian will nevertheless be of short duration. Not only does the diva work on her next album with Swedish teams, but also her world tour will soon resume. On 12 August, she will perform in Montreal, and will link up with dates in Turkey, before resuming her French tour. October 2, she will be on stage at the Grand Rex in Paris.
----------------------------------------------------
Lara is pretty much voluntarily ‘out of circulation’; someone else is also going out of circulation voluntarily, and Lara certainly won’t mind. Yann Barthes, the host and creator of the show ‘Le Petit Journal’, that has been running on Canal + in one form or another since 2004 is voluntarily retiring to do other things, and June 23rd was his last show (http://www.huffingtonpost.fr/2016/05/09/yann-barthes-quitte-le-petit-journal-canal-plus_n_9866648.html). Actually, its ratings have fallen precipitously, and the channel was looking to cut costs. Along with ‘Les Guignols’ on the same channel, also now discontinued, the programs took particular delight in tormenting Lara, exaggerating her personal quirks and ridiculing her to its audience of 1 to 2 million. Of course, Lara was hardly their only target; the channel was known for its satirical and often caustic take on many celebrities, politicians and events. Nevertheless, she is undoubtedly happy to see the last of this program.
In fact, Lara was asked about the show’s demise and responded more or less as one would have expected (http://mfmradio.fr/news/people/20226/le-coup-de-gueule-de-lara-fabian); here’s the translation:

The rant of Lara Fabian
The singer is fed up with the critics…
If the announcement of the end of the "Petit Journal" has saddened many, this is not the case of Lara Fabian. In a joint interview with Stéphane Rousseau for the show “L’autre midi à la table d’à côté ", the singer came back to the criticism received during her career. She took the opportunity to attack the team of Yann Barthes who made fun of her accent when she returned from Quebec.
She first explained the issue of celebrity: "You have to constantly protect yourself from a part of what generates your image. Me, when I arrived here in Quebec, and I hear the music of the language and that automatically I take the Quebecois accent [she lived there 15 years, Ed] there is Le Petit Journal who will take what I did by saying, 'Look how she talks when she's in Quebec.' While it is entirely legitimate what I do, I swear I do not even think about it."
She did not appreciate their remarks and made it clear: "Basically, I’ve had enough of having to justify myself about who I am because it is not a sin of being at the same time from this place and a few others [Belgium, her country of origin, Ed] and of integrating everything that makes us who we are. Me, I was born to an Italian mother and a Belgian father, of an American grandfather, my aunt is Andalusian, I speak four languages more or less correctly, I will not apologize for being that."
What do you think?
----------------------------------------------------------
This is far from the only problem Lara had with them, so she must find consolation in the fact that she has (professionally) outlived them, at least for this show (Yann Barthes will be joining TF1) – Lara has often said that the true test of success is durability. And on their last day, they destroyed their stage
(http://mfmradio.fr/news/people/20104/le-plateau-du-petit-journal-detruit), quite in keeping with their ‘take no prisoners’ attitude.
Periodically we check in on how Lara is doing relative to various other female French singers (the last time was in the News Update of 8/11/15), and on this otherwise slow news day, we return to it once again. The assessment we use is the ‘Facebook’ likes; this is far from perfect, as it is not necessarily the social media of choice in France. Indeed, a number of French singers who are arguably more popular than Lara, at least in terms of record sales, do more poorly than she does in this regard, primarily due to the international character of Lara’s fans. That said, here is the latest tally [restricting ourselves this time to the top six in our survey…]
Singer (date of birth) FB likes
Shy’m (1985) 1,681,028
Jenifer (1982) 1,231,486
Zaz (1980) 1,218,804
Lara (1970) 1,167,860
Alizee (1984) 1,037,273
Mylene Farmer (1961) 838,074
Compared to ~11 months ago, Lara has moved from fifth to fourth place among these ‘contestant’s, and she trails singers who are at least a decade younger than her (and thus would tend to have younger, more social-media savvy fans). This might be of some use to the Production company deciding who could replace ‘Jenifer’ in the ‘French Voice’ , although not necessarily if their focus is Franco-centric. Results like these however do presumably reinforce Warner’s desire for another English language album from her.
In other news, and in what is becoming old news very quickly, Lara once again had to issue words of sympathy after a bombing incident, this time in Istanbul. She issued the following (translated from the Turkish):
--------------------------------------
“" I pray really hard for that everything is coming together
If there's someone up there
We're back to zero..."
... Istanbul, my condolences, it's the last time..
--------------------------------------
But unfortunately, it won’t be the last time (and in fact, it already isn’t with subsequent bombings around the world). Perhaps in an effort to indicate the positive, this morning Lara did put a message on her FB site saying “Happy Eid [which marks the end of Ramadan] to all my beautiful Muslim fans! Happy Bayram!” This was accompanied by a picture of very attractive candy, visible at
www.facebook.com/larafabianofficial/photos/a.215378125170359.50343.201065806601591/1165328736841955/?type=3&theater
Lara has a good heart! [And given that terrorists were appeared to be using Ramadan as a way to convince ‘believers’ that suicidal sacrifices are called for, its ending is an additional source of relief…].
Various sites are reporting that Lara is continuing to add concerts to her fall schedule, the latest being in Craiova, Romania, for December 11, 2016 (https://www.facebook.com/premiumbooking/photos/a.652514211427050.1073741832.652029918142146/1210152192329913/?type=3&theater). This has not yet been officially listed on Lara’s ‘Events’ page, but tickets are already available (http://www.bilete.ro/lara-fabian). The Lara Fabian Romania site has this to say:
----------------------------------------
“Newest and beautiful surprise!!!
Spectacular end of the year for the public in Craiova!!!
On 11 December 2016, 19.30 pm, the hall will be in Craiova where shall sound "Je t'aime" unique interpretation of Lara Fabian!

[In this context, it should be mentioned that there is another article, this time primarily about Natalia in ‘Le soir’, again fostering the idea that she and Lara are trying to cross the ‘linguistic frontier’ to “reunite the two Belgiums”. We don’t know the proportion of time Lara will be spending on vacation in Italy versus working on her new album in Sweden, but she certainly deserves ‘time off’ after a very productive first half of the year. We wish her (and her parents) well!
