The duet of Lara and Natalia announced last week continued to dominate the news for Lara this week (at the time of this writing, the last seven threads on Lara’s official FB page are about it]. The items include:
**The release on iTunes worldwide of the two versions of the song, French and English, and English only;
**It’s also available on Spotify and Deezer, and on youtube;

Everybody concerned is making a big deal of this, and I suppose given the fractious nature of the relationship of the two nationalities in Belgium, it certainly seems groundbreaking. It does offer Natalia an entryway into the French culture, not only in Belgium but in France as well, as indicated in her now scheduled appearance with Lara in Paris. And for Lara, in addition to appealing to the Flemish portion of her country, it provides another English language song; perhaps she could include it on her new English album (but see below].

A question was asked of Lara’s team as to how much Lara contributed to this song. They responded that Lara wrote the French lyrics, so the lines in [brackets] indicate which words were originally in French.

One would have to say that Lara’s lyrics have her usual depth, and provide additional context for the ‘razorblade cuts’. The one caveat about Lara including this on her English album: as noted above, the English version is the one she didn’t write the lyrics for. The English lyrics given above are for the ‘radio edit’ version; one wonders if there were additional stanzas in the full-length song, or if there were just repetitive choruses that were cut.

Lara Fabian and the LGBT communities: a love story
The love story between Lara Fabian and the LGBT communities is a long-standing romance. In 2013, during an evening in support of marriage equality held at the Théâtre du Rond-Point in Paris, Lara Fabian sang part of “Deux ‘Ils,’ deux ‘Elles,’ ” an ode to the love between two men and two women. Her sensitivity toward same-sex love also gave birth to the song “La différence,” a genuine plea for the respect of love. A true “gay icon” adored by millions of fans, Lara Fabian carries with her the message of love for all.

This is not part of her ‘Canadian’ tour for ‘Ma vie dans la tienne’; it will be interesting to see how her set departs from what the tour has offered. The past few times Lara has sung at non-tour events in Canada, she has peppered her set list with some of her older Canadian songs, those most likely to be remembered from her days in the country 20 years ago. One could imagine that an appropriate set would include various songs of love and tolerance.
In other news, it was noted (by ‘Sebastian Lam’ on several sites) that 2 CD sets of several of Lara’s albums will be made available starting July 15th. Some of this project with Natalia clearly has taken Lara’s time, and one does wonder what has happened to the English album in all of it. Lara’s obviously not in Sweden!
