A week of cancellations for Lara, with many questions…What these cancellations really imply remains to be seen…
During this ‘break’ between concerts, Lara put the following picture on her FB site
www.facebook.com/larafabianofficial/photos/a.215378125170359.50343.201065806601591/1124885184219644/?type=3&theater
with the caption, “Before the continuation of the tour, just the time it takes to enter into the studio and work on a surprise project.”
The picture of a studio, and the statement, seemed to suggest that Lara was recording something, perhaps even a new English album, although a few weeks would not seem to be enough time. And, as it turned out, the time wasn’t sufficient, for next there was an announcement on Lara’s official FB page:
------------------------------------
“Lara is currently working on important projects, with surprises which will be announced shortly. These projects require a change of dates for three concerts of the tour: the three concerts in POLAND scheduled in May will have to be postponed to a later date (exact dates to be announced soon). The tickets will remain valid for the new dates, but are also reimbursable (at the selling points where they have been purchased). We apologize for the inconvenience.
In the same time, other concert dates are being added to the tour: Antalya, Cesme, Istanbul (Turkey), but also London (UK), Dubai, Slovakia, Spain, Germany, Austria, Canada, Brazil, the USA, Azerbaijan, and other countries..” Team Lara
------------------------------------
A new English album would fit in nicely with all the international tour dates. Nevertheless, one wonders why that would necessitate a relatively abrupt cancellation of concerts that would take her no more than a week. The concert tickets will be valid for the new dates or will be refunded, but as fans have pointed out that may well not be true for the airline tickets and other arrangements fans had to make. To postpone concerts, especially three of them, is a serious step. Hopefully we’ll find out that the ‘important projects’ (and note the plural, so apparently there is not just one) are worth it.
Putting the issue in greater doubt, Lara then cancelled her participation in the Eva Longoria “Global Gift” charity event. Lara had first put notice of her participation on her FB page two days earlier, with the statement, "Happy to participate in the evening of The Global Gift Gala in Paris, May 9, intended to raise funds for the benefit of Eva Longoria Foundation, Global Gift Foundation, UNICEF and La Bonne Etoile." She included a photo celebrating the event (here from the ‘Lara Fabian and Emmanuel Moire LE duo’ site, as the whole thread was subsequently removed from Lara’s):
www.facebook.com/LaraFabianetEmmanuelMoireLEduo/photos/a.199122136821054.50267.160613337338601/1079438258789433/?type=3&theater
Then, at what was practically the last minute, Lara tweeted “Although I cannot be present this evening, I send all my love to Eva, and to the @globalgiftgala this evening #GlobalGift @evalongoria” ([Apparently Tina Arena has taken her place].
Fans expressed their concern about this turn of events. It forces one to wonder whether these two cancellations are in any way related, although it seems unlikely (though not impossible) that this one night’s absence is related to ’working on important projects’. A more personal matter seems more likely. Speculation at this point would seem useless; we’ll just have to wait for more information, if we ever get it. Let’s hope for the best…
On a more positive note, Lara included ‘Dubai’ in her list of upcoming concerts, and in fact it turns out that she will be there next September 23rd as one of the candidates for the ‘Big Apple Music Award’; this can be seen at:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=VxWQH7BkGik&app=desktop
Assuming she has a concert in addition to that, it would make sense that it would take place in conjunction with this visit. Lara also noted several other particulars about her upcoming tour, such as that New York and Los Angeles would be included in the U.S. tour. Again, when offered the chance to make some comment about Italy being included, they responded, “We’re working on it. Patience.”
Concerning the concert covered in last week's Update, a wonderful video of the complete show in Budapest on 4-26 is available, at:

In other news, there were some more press interviews with Lara that became available. The Lara Fabian – PHQ site provided the scans for an article in the magazine ‘Move in Liege” for March/April of 2016 (https://www.facebook.com/353946178085395/photos/pcb.869547396525268/869547349858606/?type=3&theater). As you can see, the interview is a few months old. Here’s the translation:

Lara Fabian
Elegance and Simplicity
In new music, the year 2015 had marked the very media-intensive return of the attractive Lara Fabian. After the success of her last album, “Ma vie dans la tienne”, the singer with more than 12 million albums sold returns on tour and will be with us March 18th and June 8 at the Liege forum.
Her Journey
“Tout”, ‘Immortelle”, “J’y crois encore”, “Tue es mon autre”, “La difference”…All the world hummed the hits of Lara Fabian. Smiling and always available for her fans, in her last album one of the most beautiful of the Francophone voices confides like never before. “Ma vie dans la tienne, it is the story of our lives to all. The moment when one stops to tell it, a little like one writes letters to those whom one loves. In this album I have written a song for my little girl, for my husband, my best friend, for my family. It is my method for myself of telling things to those whom I love. Letters of love to transmit. We are all the son or daughter and it is not always easy to say ‘I love you’. It is therefore a small package of words which are easier to say in song. Me it is in my nature of sharing these feelings with those close to me.”
For this 14th studio album, Lara is surround by a duo of other composers. “I participated in the writing. All three of us sat around a table and began to write these songs, like one talks about, with sincerity, without filter and without any fear. It’s been a long time that I haven’t been in this complicity, this transparency, it was very refreshing.”
Even if she has never stopped exercising her metier with faith and passion, this last work permits her to renew herself with some popular songs, like from her beginnings. “You can have all the will in the world, music is a wild and mysterious animal. Sometimes it works, sometimes not. Here we had the desire to write simply. We didn’t say that we wanted to make a hit. But it is true that the melody, the lyrics, all that can relate to the great songs that I made at the time of my arrival in the francophone musical landscape.
Her News
It is moreover on stage that the singer of ‘Quand je ne chante pas’ will defend her album in the month of March. The occasion for the audience to discover her new compositions, but also the great hits that have marked the career of this Belgian-Italian. Veritable beast on stage, Lara alternates without stopping between laughter and emotion. “In everyday life I am a real clown. The spectators who come to see me regularly know it and wait for these small touches of humor. It is in my nature, I take this from my Belgian grandmother. She taught me to laugh at myself. The laughter permits me to traverse the stages of my life with more grace."
This March 19th, it is therefore on the stage of the Forum that she will be presenting. A region that she has often had the occasion to frequent in the more than 25 years of her career. “I adore the public in Leige, it is incredible and very warm. It is also inspiring to make a small tour of your area”. But there is no point in dragging in the streets of the square in the hope of crossing her, the young mother is not plugged in to leave. “On tour, I am very athletic. I eat four hours before, I make my concert, I almost never eat afterward, then I’m going to bed. It is necessary to give the best, it is quite demanding. My desire it is to be at the height for the people who come out and who come to share a moment with us.”
Successful singer, sincere, simple and spontaneous, Lara Fabian manages marvelously her professional and personal life. A beautiful person in sum.

And in another article, this one from Montreal published more recently (May 7), from www.tvanouvelles.ca/2016/05/07/lara-fabian-plus-heureuse-que-jamais (thanks to the Lara Fabian Is Here FB site), here’s the translation:

Lara Fabian, Happier than Ever
Nicolas Fauteux | QMI Agency
RENE BAILLARGEON / JOURNAL DE QUEBEC / QMI AGENCY
Like a ray of sunshine, she entered the small library of the Hotel Gault in Old Montreal. During this day ahead which is more than busy for her, Lara Fabian took time to talk to us, opening for us her heart without hiding anything. Meeting with a fulfilled woman.
RB: You are passing to Quebec to promote the deluxe version of "Ma vie dans la tienne”. What is your latest album?
LF: This [the DVD] is a postcard of an international tour in which I sing my successes of the last 25 years. We also find there unpublished pieces as well as the entire album "Ma vie dans la tienne”.
It is important to feed the public that sustains us, to offer it something more. It really was important to me.
RB: Lara Fabian, as a singer, was transformed; we also see it moreover very well on this disc. How do you see this?
LF: There arrives at a moment during the journey which is life where we perhaps embody a little more serenity. Beyond 40, 45 - I'll be 47 soon - I think there is something that arises in us, and the voice is the instrument that expresses it. I can’t explain exactly what has passed, but I can say that I am very comfortable with getting older and I rarely felt better than now. I have seen some green and some not ripe, and even of all colors, but there are lessons in all this, even if they are painful.
RB: Do you feel stronger today?
LF: Strength is the alter ego of fragility, and it often oscillates between the two, sometimes being dismantled, sometimes not dismantled ... But I would say that I feel more stable.
RB: There are songs on "Ma vie dans la tienne" that are very personal. You are talking to your mother - who is ill - to your father, your sister [sic]...
LF: And my daughter, my husband, my best friend ... This is a disc filled with gratitude so as to say, "Thank you, I love you and I see you." That's really it. This is an album written without filter. It was obvious to me to do this album. There are things at a time we want to speak of through our music. And then, it just seemed to me to say, these beautiful and less beautiful things, and even suffering, as the song that I wrote for my mother. I am not asking questions in writing. I want to speak of what I live but without trying to pass a message.
RB: At the same time, we feel that you are living very positive things, including your relationship with the Italian magician Gabriel di Giorgio. Now you've gone through several storms in this area in the past ...
LF: You know, the day when we finally love, we discover what might be called the just love. True love does not happen as long as we do not like ourself... Often the tumults are the consequences of our choices, because we are always trying to find in each other a way to be supported, to moor, to exist in symbiotic way ... Of course, passion is essential - and God knows I live a deeply intense relationship! - But there is no more that dimension where one "sucks" the other to look for one’s own love we don’t have. When I started to love myself, the door is open to everything. I saw a beautiful love.
RB: You say that now, you love yourself. Has it been a long journey?
LF: It’s been a long journey. There was no one morning when I woke up and looked in the mirror, teling myself that I was beautiful and that I loved myself, all of a sudden. It took years of work on myself, on all the little things from which I had so much misery.
RB: What means did you take to do this work on yourself?
LF: I used a lot of "spiritual technology" for it. I made real stuff too, like sports activities. We all have our keys, our instruments, to find this place where one is good. It is possible to do. When I sit down and I look at my career over the last 10 years ... I think it's beautiful! That said, I've never stopped looking for a way to feel better.
Like everyone else, I like happiness, but sometimes it's hard to let it into our lives. It's crazy how you can be refractory to happiness. But when we decide to be ourself and what that is, it gets results.
RB: Beyond the clichés, how has motherhood transformed you?
LF: It is sure that what I saw is partly the same as what every parent lives. But another part of my reality is the great challenge that motherhood means to me. I feel a duty that goes beyond emotion ... With all the humility that to be a parent demands, I want to be a guide for my daughter, Lou, to transmit values. I do not want to have the pretension of pushing her to be what I am not able. It is a great challenge to find for our children concrete ways to live in this world which, should we say it, is not doing well and where it will not be easy to make one’s place. Looking at everything which is happening, my heart is trembling for my daughter. And this is not a poetic figure ...
RB: In this context, the recent terrorist attacks in Belgium had to touch you quite directly ...
LF: It touched us all. Whether we are Belgian, French or Canadian, we are all concerned. For sure, the day of the attacks, I walked while holding a piece of my heart in my hand and I was looking for the rest of it ... I was wondering what one was going to make of it. Except that I do not have time to be angry. I want to find the way to promote peace I want to see prevail in the world, even if this is only at my level, as an artist. I have no power except that of conveying emotions. Beyond the sadness, despair and misunderstanding, we must roll up the sleeves and, every day, be ferrymen of concrete values.
RB: At eight years old, you knew you wanted to be a singer. Your daughter, Lou, who is eight years old, has she manifested the desire to follow in your footsteps?
LF: Not at all. You can not imagine how much that child does not care for this job! And it's so refreshing to live with a child who loves you just because you're her mother! My daughter wants to be chef. It's her dream, and she told me a long time. Well, when cooking, then it is necessary to call the fire department! (Laughs) It's everywhere! She is good for breakfast; she makes delicious pancakes. I'm speechless. She tells me: "I am chief" like I said "I'm a singer" at her age ... We'll see. Children travel in their dreams.

Poetic interview with Lara, as usual. Let’s hope that recent developments have not changed the way she feels.
As a number of sites have pointed out, Lara is one of the artists whose picture is up in the Paris metro, promoting Decibel production artists,
www.facebook.com/decibelsprodDP/photos/pcb.524671621050590/524669234384162/?type=3&theater
The Lara Fabian web site reports that Lara was on the program “Alcaline l'instant" d'Amir. For those in France, it can be seen at: m.pluzz.francetv.fr/videos/alcaline_l_instant.html
Lara had several Mother’s Day statements. For one, she tweeted, “"Mother's love is peace"... a thought for all struggling mothers across this planet...” and provided an appropriate picture, at:
And on her FB site, she wrote, “Happy holiday to all the mothers (for French mothers it will be May 29th).” She then posted the lyrics to ‘Le Coeur qui tremble’, and also the link to the Lara Fabian Mexico (Spanish subtitled) post of a concert video of it, at
www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xmc6xHk1-iA&feature=youtu.be
Lara’s album has dropped from #68 to #91 overall (48th to 62nd in physical CDs) in France, while it has slipped one place, to #19 in Belgium. It has now been on the charts for 25 straight weeks.
Interesting photo(s) of the week: At Kasteel van Gassbeek, from Lara’s FB page

The first name Lara is a Greek surname.
That first name Lara, like its principal variant Larisa, is related to a Greek term meaning “seagull”.
Lara is charming and you will struggle to resist her.
Sensitive and sociable, she will be surrounded by friends who will be dear to her heart. The creativity that she will develop will open numerous doors for her.

Were Lara’s parents prescient, or does one live up to one’s name?
This coming week we may learn what Lara’s new projects are, important enough to cancel her scheduled concerts in Poland. We may also learn why she had to cancel her charity appearance last night. And we may find out some specific dates for the promised upcoming international concerts. Or… we may learn none of these things – we’ll see! Again, let’s hope for the best.

During this ‘break’ between concerts, Lara put the following picture on her FB site

Then, at what was practically the last minute, Lara tweeted “Although I cannot be present this evening, I send all my love to Eva, and to the @globalgiftgala this evening #GlobalGift @evalongoria” ([Apparently Tina Arena has taken her place].

The translation reads:
-------------------------------
The first name Lara is a Greek surname.
