Peripatetic as always, Lara’s trip to Montreal ended last week, with a few more media appearances, and then she left for Russia. First, the remaining Canadian shows...

Topics discussed are her feelings and relationship with Quebec, the new album, Brussels’s attacks, and her mother’s ailment. There were jokes about the name of the show (which means exchanges but in popular parlance stands for ‘swingers’; here it refers to ‘participants exchanging news, etc.’), and Lara participated heartedly in those exchanges. Overall, one gets the feeling that Lara’s affection for Quebec made all of the people feel that it was more important in their eyes, as well.

‘Ma vie dans la tienne’ marks your return after one of the biggest tests of your career: the loss of your hearing. In the song ‘Releve-toi’, you say " to fall from on high to be reborn better". Is this the album of the rebirth?
Lara: This album has been written as one talks about something without filter and without any other objective than that. Is it the moment when we stop all intellectualizing that we are reborn? I think so. To try to repeat a success makes us forget the first instinct with which we write music. Before success grabs me and makes me make this incredible sinusoidal journey, I went down in my basement in pajamas to go tell stories that had the sole purpose to put me in connection with others. The day when one has success, one enter this highly intellectualized maze. ‘Ma vie dans la tienne’, it is the moment when, sitting in silence after my hearing accident, I had this little sign telling me to write just to say what I feel. This is to reconnect to oneself, as one is reborn.
What happened ? Were you afraid of never being able to sing any more?
Lara: This accident is a little like a badly wrapped gift, a mandatory break which allowed me to hear things that I had not heard until then. A human error has caused an impact of decibels that no one could bear. I fainted, as if I had received a heavy blow on the head. I heard nothing more. The ear is the way of the voice, but I never believed for a second that it would stop there.
Your loved ones all have a little of their song on this album. ‘Ma vie dans la tienne’ is dedicated to your best friend. Who is she?
Lara: Nathalie is in my life for 30 years. I wanted to say thanks to her for teaching me, through my errors and my journey, how it is ultimately easier to love than I thought. She taught me to love being free.
‘L’oubli’ refers to the neurodegenerative disease of your mother. Did you hesitate to reveal that part of intimacy?
Lara: I decided to do it there is very little time. My friend told me that it was a love song for my mother. She has some small lucid moments and, when she gave me her approval, she freed me from this silence.
On ‘Ton desir’, ones discover another facet of Lara Fabian, more mischievous.
Lara: Comes an age when we love a little more. I've always been a clown. But there is the TV syndrome: how to be the best for three minutes? In doing so, it ruins everything. One day, we understand that we must stop trying to look good. This song is the most fun part of me.
You've changed a lot of record company and management. Who takes care of you today?
Lara: One is always working to try to make this career last in time, to find a way to diversify myself. I have also had the beautiful occasion of joining Warner. They agreed to enter into my logic of authentic accounts. Today nobody asks me to put on a miniskirt! In the late 90s, it was a very different approach in the record companies.
In 1999, you were trying to break into the US market with I Will Love Again. Will you again attempt the experience?
Lara: I do not see things like that. I believe in an alignment in life where when you enter into coherence with yourself, your destiny is revealed and that is what is happening to me. This is embryonic, but I have an incredible offer which brings me to America.
On the title ‘Non coupable’, you say: "From all I am capable, even to shout “Je t’aime". How did you feel about being categorized as a ‘singer of voice’?
Lara: I sing it from the first as in the second degree! I am an intense person and for that I was criticized. It's very French, not at all Quebecoise. "Singer of Voice" means one covers more than an octave. I can not say I struggled to support something which, at base, is positive for me. But it was also a negative adjective applied by the French media. It was necessary that it strikes me like a blow on the head for me to understand that in their eyes being me was a problem. At 26, it is true also that one sings with the foot in the carpet! After, we understand that some stories do not need higher bid. We can say things simply, sing differently than if one is going to die tomorrow.

The box is really for the album 'Ma vie dans la tienne', but when you do a collector's box, you still have to offer a minimum of more for people. You can not only add a new song to the album.
The album 'Ma vie dans la tienne' was released in November. How has it been received?
Lara: In a very nice way. I'm really glad of the welcome. The album is platinum (100,000 copies sold), both in France and Belgium. I am very happy because the music goes through a different filter today. We are in an era where music is consumed more than ever, but not necessarily purchased. I am very happy to have such a reception, both physical and digital.
You will go play in Moscow in a few days. Why are non-francophones so interested in your music?
Lara: I'm not a very good analyst myself. It's true that I played in Los Angeles, New York, Moscow, Rome and Prague. It is very surprising. I prefer to stay in a form of surprise, which affects the gratitude and continue to taste this thing like it's very precious and rare, rather than spend my time analyzing it. I say much more "thank you" than "why".
How is life in Belgium since the attacks of last month?
Lara” We all have a broken heart. It's a little hard what is happening right now in Europe. I was at Brussels airport the day before the attacks, in the evening. My flight to Marseille was scheduled for March 22 at 10 am in the morning, but it was full. So I took the flight the day before. When I heard the news, I collapsed. Everyone called me because everyone thought I was at the airport at that time. For a few hours, there was panic. When your time has not come ... "

After leaving, Lara put on her Facebook site a link to the words of “Je vais revoir l’hiver’, along with an appropriate flag picture, emphasizing her love for Quebec and the idea that she has never really left (http://www.paroles.net/lara-fabian/paroles-je-vais-revoir-l-hiver#dfjPd7LeJYaF8o3B.99) Actually, it would have been nice to provide this song with more attention which in Quebec, but Lara was in an awkward position – as we know, the ‘re-edition’ that she was pushing, and had just been released there, did not have it on it. Again she probably would have been better served to come up with a hybrid version for Canada, perhaps replacing ‘Voce’ with that song on the re-edition CD, but, again, maybe she didn’t think the sales in Canada would justify the added expense (the accompanying booklet would have had to be redone slightly, as well).
Even without this added indication of her love for the country, one would say objectively that Lara received a lot of love from fans and the media in the country, for whom she used her time very efficiently, with numerous appearances. One might also say that their sentiment has changed from anger at her leaving, to a phase of complete indifference(as for example with the ‘Le Secret’ and ‘Best of’ tours, where she was practically ignored), to appreciation at her ‘stopping by’. [Fans have pointed out that ‘Lara’s great return', as it was being called, was really only after an absence of one year, but because her outgoing attitude was so different, it seemed as if they were seeing her for the first time in a long while]. The change also goes along with the saying, from Wayne Dyer, “If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change”. Lara’s full-hearted acceptance of whatever is being served up to her has made all of her audiences more receptive to her.
Lara’s team keeps saying that she will be doing interviews and a tour of the U.S. in early 2017 as well; both for the U.S. and Canada, they say that because there are a number of concerts planned, it is taking some time to set up the complicated schedule.
Then Lara was in Moscow, meeting with Krutoi and company, and, according to some photos, giving a performance for what appeared to be a private party. The ‘Tue est mon autre’ FB site (among others) showed a number of such pictures, including some posted from the Moscow Hilton, at:

Thierry Palo on the MZ FB site stated that Lara and Krutoi have been at odds over financial matters, and that has held up the release of the second Mademoiselle Zhivago album for more than two years (and perhaps was also responsible for Lara’s failure to show up in Moscow last year for the first time in a decade, or at Krutoi's New Wave festival). While Lara will be in Moscow and St. Petersburg for concerts in late November (and for the latter venue, she just posted a reminder on her FB site), they are apparently not being produced by Krutoi. Along with having been photographed with him, and her ‘friendship’ statement above may imply that whatever rift there had been has been settled [also note that nothing concerning their ‘contretemps’ has been substantiated]. Rapprochement would be good news for all concerned, including the fans. And agreements on this front would also be in line with the general ‘bonhomie’ Lara has been generating in all her ‘countries’ over the past six months.
Lara’s visit to Moscow was well timed since she had to be in the general vicinity anyway, for her eastern European concert tour, beginning later this week. She put a note about it on her FB site, saying “Cluj, Bucharest, Sofia and Budapest.. See you soon !!!”
Back in France, the position of the latest album fell from 31st to 55th (total sales), and from 24 to 38 in physical discs. Total actual sales are estimated at 88,000. In Belgium it has dropped from 3rd to 8th (with an estimated 8,000 sales).

No question of what Lara will be doing this coming week, as she has four concerts in Romania, Bulgaria and Hungary. One might also say that their sentiment has changed from anger at her leaving, to a phase of complete indifference(as for example with the ‘Le Secret’ and ‘Best of’ tours, where she was practically ignored), to appreciation at her ‘stopping by’. [Fans have pointed out that ‘Lara’s great return', as it was being called, was really only after an absence of one year, but because her outgoing attitude was so different, it seemed as if they were seeing her for the first time in a long while]. The change also goes along with the saying, from Wayne Dyer, “If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change”. Lara’s full-hearted acceptance of whatever is being served up to her has made all of her audiences more receptive to her.
Lara’s team keeps saying that she will be doing interviews and a tour of the U.S. in early 2017 as well; both for the U.S. and Canada, they say that because there are a number of concerts planned, it is taking some time to set up the complicated schedule.
Then Lara was in Moscow, meeting with Krutoi and company, and, according to some photos, giving a performance for what appeared to be a private party. The ‘Tue est mon autre’ FB site (among others) showed a number of such pictures, including some posted from the Moscow Hilton, at:

Thierry Palo on the MZ FB site stated that Lara and Krutoi have been at odds over financial matters, and that has held up the release of the second Mademoiselle Zhivago album for more than two years (and perhaps was also responsible for Lara’s failure to show up in Moscow last year for the first time in a decade, or at Krutoi's New Wave festival). While Lara will be in Moscow and St. Petersburg for concerts in late November (and for the latter venue, she just posted a reminder on her FB site), they are apparently not being produced by Krutoi. Along with having been photographed with him, and her ‘friendship’ statement above may imply that whatever rift there had been has been settled [also note that nothing concerning their ‘contretemps’ has been substantiated]. Rapprochement would be good news for all concerned, including the fans. And agreements on this front would also be in line with the general ‘bonhomie’ Lara has been generating in all her ‘countries’ over the past six months.
Lara’s visit to Moscow was well timed since she had to be in the general vicinity anyway, for her eastern European concert tour, beginning later this week. She put a note about it on her FB site, saying “Cluj, Bucharest, Sofia and Budapest.. See you soon !!!”
Back in France, the position of the latest album fell from 31st to 55th (total sales), and from 24 to 38 in physical discs. Total actual sales are estimated at 88,000. In Belgium it has dropped from 3rd to 8th (with an estimated 8,000 sales).

No question of what Lara will be doing this coming week, as she has four concerts in Romania, Bulgaria and Hungary. After that, she’s off for another month, before returning for some concerts in Poland. While Lara’s official ‘World Tour’ of her ‘best of’ concerts may have ended, she’s obviously covering these countries (and more) again, for the new album. Given her reception in Montreal, she's off to a good start!
