Once again ‘political reality’ has intruded into the world of individuals and entertainment, with the news that this morning, shortly before 8 AM local time, explosions at the main international airport and in the central subway station in Brussels have killed at least 13 people. The city is in a state of virtual shutdown, with all flights, subway, bus and tram service shut down. Eurostar canceled its trains connecting Brussels with Paris and London.
The Brussels airport is in the town of Zaventem, about 11 km northeast of the city center; Lara lives in Waterloo which is ~18 km south of the city. Thus her home wasn’t directly affected, and given that she has a concert tonight in Marseilles, chances are she wasn’t even in the country. On her official FB page, Lara issued the following statement: “I am shocked by these horrible atrocities against my country, against us all, against humanity. My thoughts go to all the victims and their families.”
We have a choice here – we can let this destructive news dominate our view of events of the past week, or we can put it aside in favor of focusing on the creative aspects of what occurred over that time in Lara’s world. Lara’s Team put the following message on her FB site: “Thank you to avoid this moment of pain and sadness, and political analysis on this page, you can post on your personal pages.” In the same vein, we choose to focus on the positive; we assume that this news, however horrible, will (fortunately or not) pass from our emphasis over the coming weeks, while Lara will (hopefully!) be going on with her life and career, of which this past week was an important part. So – provisionally – we will turn away from this sad story, and report the news of Lara’s week that exists in a whole other, better, Universe. We return to it, briefly, at the very end of this Update.
--------------------------------------------------------------
The opening of the new tour leads the items in this Update, but there is also some news on additional concert venues for it, and the re-release of the new album with extras, scheduled for later this week…
Lara’s new tour, “Ma vie dans la tienne – Le Concert” began this past week in Belgium, with stops in Roubaix, Brussels, Liege and Antwerp. Here’s the tracklist (not in order): Ma vie dans la tienne - Elle danse - Le désamour - Immortelle - Je t'aime - J'y crois encore - I Will Love Again - La différence -L'oubli - S'il ne reste qu'un ami - Ton désir - Tu es mon is autre (duet with Gabriel) - Abba Medley - Envie d'en rire - Le coeur qui tremble - Quand je ne chante pas - Non coupable - Relève- toi
All the songs from the new album are presented, as well as some of the standard ‘oldies’. Notable additions are the Abba Medley (remember, in a recent article Lara noted how much she liked ‘Dancing Queen’), the ‘duet’ with Gabriel on ‘Tue es mon autre’, and, particularly, ‘Non coupable’, which will be available on the re-edition as a ‘bonus’ selection [it really should have been the 12th song on the album, and given its appearance at these concerts – and the fans’ response to it – one imagines Lara might now agree]. Also as can be seen on the videos (below), Olivier Ciappa's ‘Imaginary Couples’ pictures were used behind ‘La Difference’. Pictures were used numerous other times as well, e.g., with the imaginative opening; behind ‘Quand je ne chante pas’; of Lara’s mother (behind ‘L’oubli’); of Nathalie, Gabriel, etc.
A cute picture advertising the concerts can be seen at:

An article about her appearance in Roubaix appeared at (http://www.nordeclair.fr/info-locale/lara-fabian-en-terre-conquise-sur-la-scene-du-colisee-de-ia50b12891n1065350). Here’s the translation:

Lara Fabian in conquered land, on stage at the Coliseum in Roubaix
Belgian singer Lara Fabian was on the Coliseum stage on Wednesday night for the first concert of her tour "Ma vie dans la tienne."
“I do not hide that I am filled with fear.” Lara Fabian chose the Roubaix Coliseum for her comeback last night. Faced with a public that did not keep sitting more than thirty seconds, she strung together her hits and songs from her latest album ‘Ma vie dans la tienne’. It is moreover with this title, which gives its name to the disc and the tour, and a wall of photos in back of her that she launched into the concert and paid tribute to her public. "My life in yours, it's just you and me and all those who do, that I am today what I am," she told her fans, conquered. The Belgian singer began a series of concerts that will lead her to Belgium, France, Switzerland and to Poland. She will be back in the area, in Saint-Omer, 16 December, on the stage of Sceneo.

The article also contains six photos of Lara on stage. The same article was published elsewhere (http://www.lavoixdunord.fr/region/tout-le-colisee-de-roubaix-se-leve-pour-lara-fabian-ia24b58797n3390728?xtor=RSS-2), the only difference being the title which read “All the Roubaix Coliseum rises for Lara Fabian”. Lara Fabian, back on stage, moved to find her audience again
News published on 03/17/2016 at 18:52
Michel Serra
Lara Fabian yesterday gave the kickoff of her new tour in Roubaix. In front of the conquered fans, the singer sang her greatest hits, and many of her new songs.
It is in front of 1700 spectators of the Coliseum in Roubaix that Lara Fabian gave Wednesday night the kickoff of her new tour. A concert that includes almost all of her latest album, ‘Ma vie dans la tienne’ (Warner) and some of her greatest hits.
And according to our colleagues at La Voix du Nord, the comeback of the Italian-Belgian diva was expected. If the entire room shared its joy to welcome the singer, this latter was in a pretty state of stress. "I do not hide that I am full of fear," she started, "facing an audience that did not stay seated more than thirty seconds."
It is necessary to say that the singer of 46 years had not produced in France since the cancellation of her tour “Le Secret’ at the end of 2013. She had been forced to rest after suffering a violent shock of the inner ear.
Smiling, Lara Fabian has opted for simplicity for this return. Forget the complicated scenery of her last tour, it is before advancing steps and a giant screen that the singer introduced herself to her audience. And for the appearance on stage, no fuss either: jeans and a jacket will do.
Lara Fabian will be on stage until the end of the year in France, but also in Belgium, Switzerland, but also in Poland, Romania, Russia or still the United States. She will be in Paris on June 3rd at the convention center, and October 2nd in the hall of the Grand Rex. Her album ‘Ma vie dans la tienne’, published in November last year, is certified platinum in France and gold in Belgium.
----------------------------------------------------------
There were many very positive reviews from Lara’s ‘Angels’ and other fans, posted on her site. I’ve chosen in this Update to provide reviews from sites that have been known to be critical of Lara at times, so as to give an indication of how widespread the appreciation of these concerts is. Anthony Vhl on the MZ FB site wrote the following review:
---------------------------------------------------------
Small personal return of the concert of Roubaix:
A Lara very present vocally! She has lost nothing, at the level of the show, she speaks less than before and strings songs from the new album with some old and some good surprise like an Abba Medley; on the other hand a reprise with her husband on ‘Tu es mon autre’ could do better ...
No great thing on stage four musicians with her and a platform ... and giant screens but visually nice.
One regret no change of dress and lack of chorus.
1:30 of the show no longer it is still short compared to Celine, or even Johnny or even Zaz 2 hours on average ... In any case, one finds the Lara Fabian from her beginning and as I have always loved.
----------------------------------------------------------
You may remember that Lara has indicated that because of her hearing issues, she cannot perform for more than 1 hour 30 minutes.

And Geoffrey Faucon, on Lara’s site, indicated that Maurane was also in the audience, as a spectator. She left the following message on her Twitter site (
“Thank you my @lfabianofficial croquette you were dazzling with talent, nuances, strength, simplicity, sensitivity. I love you strongly.“
Review of the concert in Brussels from Benjamin-Nathanian Lemmens on the LFIAG Select site:
---------------------------------------
A superb concert in Brussels... She's fine. It is well her voice, her sneakers, her clothes. She’s feeling good! No tricks, no metaphorical sense, no end of a cycle and simultaneously the beginning of another, no women who has to be built. Just her and her show. In brief, Soooo 2002! I loved it...

As for those sneakers: Lara put a picture of herself with her new sneakers, and the caption “Thanks to Free Lance for the sneakers! I adore!

--------------------------------------------------------
Back from the concert of Lara in Liege:
Positive points the voice was there but a lot of problems of sounds and forgetting words.
Moments where for me the true Lara is unveiled on stage: ‘Immortelle’; ‘S'il ne reste qu'un ami’; ‘I Will Love Again’; and the medley from ABBA. A good show for summary but a bit too mechanical by now. By contrast the audience in Liege was top and respectful and that we appreciate )

Here's a review from Guillaume Ward on the MZ FB site:
---------------------------------------------------
Back from the concert of Antwerp and it was really perfect. Vocally, she sends it strongly (special mention for 'Non coupable').
Scenically, it's very pretty. Concerning the virtual duo, I haven't found that her husband was a task, quite the contrary.
High point of the concert, 'L'oubli' where she lets herself be overwhelmed by emotion on the latest notes.
Lara was very comfortable, in the exchange with the public, in attempting a few words in Dutch that made smile the whole of the audience.
To sum up, a very very beautiful concert and following after several dates , the voice is beautiful and well here!
----------------------------------------------------
There was an article from Flanders concerning Lara and this concert that she put on her website (https://www.facebook.com/larafabianofficial/photos/a.215378125170359.50343.201065806601591/1089331931108303/?type=3&theater). Here’s the translation:
-------------------------------------------------------
I’m Not Against a Duet with Natalia, No”
The Belgian-Canadian singer-songwriter Lara Fabian gives a concert Sunday at the city theater. Although she is one of the best-selling artists in our country, she has never entered before in Flanders.
Lara Fabian in her 30-year career has sold over 32 million records. That's more than Jacques Brel and Rocco Granata. Fabian represented Luxembourg in 1988 at the 33th Eurovision Song Contest. Her beginning of a spectacular career, she continued to develop in Quebec. With her album ‘Carpe Diem’ she became a world star in French, English, German [sic], Italian and even sings Russian.
Her fans know her hits ‘Si tu m'aimes', ‘La Difference’, ‘Adagio’ and ‘Je suis malade’. Still, it is odd that Fabian is better known in Russia than in Flanders. Fabian was however born Lara Crokaert in Etterbeek, grew up in Ruisbroek and now lives in Waterloo. Her father is a purebred Fleming. Sicilian temperament, she got it from her mother. Her roots, her many travels and a long stay in Canada made Fabian an international Belgian. "Because my father married an Italian, the French language was evident to communicate," says Fabian. "With my mother, he talked from the beginning French, although he was a Fleming from Retie. Some aspects of the Flemings are certainly me. I am very organized, structured, pragmatic and reliable. And I do not like coincidence. In Canada, where I lived for 15 years, I felt right at home. Belgians and the people of Quebec share the same easy living spirit. "
Fond of Streisand
Lara was brought up with music. "My father was once guitarist of Petula Clark. His passion for music he has given to me. My mother was an excellent singer. At home we began to spontaneously sing and play music for fun. My father was very fond of country. Home always had Nana Mouskouri, Maria Callas and Barbra Streisand sounding loudly from the speakers. Especially Streisand made on me a very strong impression. Much later I even met her, because she wanted to cover my song Broken Vow. She called me, but I hung up immediately because I thought it was a bad joke. She called again and said "(firm voice) Streisand here. Don’t you dare hang up the phone.” I felt then suddenly again like a little girl from my past. Later I was especially fascinated by her power to grab you emotionally. Streisand already speaks the words perfectly. She articulates so that you understand everything. That's why I've stayed so close to her approach. That's why I admire Freddie Mercury. "
Night of the Proms
Lara Fabian has even performed in the Antwerp Sprotspalace in 2006 as surprise act of the Night of the Proms. Now she brings a concert under her own name for the first time in Flanders. "I've always dreamed of breaking through the linguistic border. As Belgians we should be forced to learn each other's language. I'm sure I have many fans in Flanders, but I think those are more interested in the English side of my career. Personally, I love Natalia, although my French colleagues have no idea who she is. Maybe Natalia knows me, but her audience does not know me still. My performance in Antwerp is my humble attempt to break boundaries. I would love to ever sing a duet with Natalia. "
Chris Craps
----------------------------------------------------------
Lara's comment about the similarity of the Belgian and Quebec people is ironic, because Canada and Belgium share another attribute: each has a good part of the country that is unfamiliar with her, Flemings in Belgium, and the English population in Canada. Last year for the first time she tried to "break that linguistic barrier" for the first time in Canada, and hopefully that will continue as well.
Lara’s closing remark and picture: “Thank you Antwerp. Bye”
And on Lara’s Twitter site, with respect to all four concerts, the message “Thanks to my magical fans, for all the gifts, letter and flowers”, and she posted several pictures of a number of them at:

‘Voce’ and ‘Non coupable’ are on the CD as bonus selections. The DVD contains 18 titles, mostly from the movie ‘Un soir autour du monde’, but also including the clip for MVDLT.
An article about this release, and how it relates to Lara’s upcoming tour in Quebec, was at (http://www.rythmefm.com/montreal/nouvelles/lara-fabian-un-coffret-et-une-visite-au-quebec-766198.html). Here’s the translation:

Lara Fabian: A Box (set) and a Visit to Quebec
Lara Fabian offers a box containing her new album, two new songs and a live DVD, in addition to paying a visit to Quebec.
Lara Fabian will offer a return to Quebec next April, and offers a new collection box.
Quebec adopted, the Belgian-born singer of Canadian citizenship will be visiting Quebec's metropolis on 11, 12 and 13 of April to present ‘Ma vie dans la tienne’- collector, a box including her most recent album plus several extras.
The box includes notably two additional new songs and a DVD of the concert ‘Un soir autour du monde’. This live film made in Prague was presented in theaters in Europe.
‘Ma vie dans la tienne’, original album, received a platinum certification following its launch in the fall of 2015. It includes the extract ‘Quand je ne chante pas’ and the song and album title. Lara Fabian also recently provided a videoclip for ‘L’oubli’ [which they then show].
---------------------------------------------
News of the ‘platinum album designation’ is spreading, although one cannot see that from the sales figures given on Charts in France (http://www.chartsinfrance.net/communaute/index.php?/topic/47480-lara-fabian-mes-ventes-dans-les-tiennes/), where they list an estimate of 83,000 discs sold in France. Nevertheless, the album has jumped up 53 places (!) to 107 in total sales (88 physical, 79 digital), due perhaps to both the news surrounding the single “L’oubli” as well as the beginning of the tour (even though that was in Belgium). And in Belgium, it rose 7 places (to #22) [although it still did not get back on the charts in Flanders, despite the Antwerp concert].
In other news, Lara is showing an interesting shirt and video clip on her Twitter site:
/video/1
with the caption, “Smoking…No Smoking”. The idea is that if one rubs it (as she's doing in the video), the 'no' disappears. Thus it can either be a comment on the advisability of not smoking, or an indication of the 'hotness' of the wearer!

Lara has three more concerts coming up in this segment, which now moves to France: Marseille (22nd), Nantes (24th)and Tours (25th). All the shows have gone wonderfully so far, with Lara in full voice and happy; there’s every expectation that this tour will fulfill people’s hopes for her and provide them great entertainment. An excellent start!
[So far, there is no indication that the political events referred to at the top of this Update will interrupt tonight’s or future concerts, although undoubtedly they will affect the tone. Lara has said many times that she gives concerts in countries with political dissonance because she feels it can help raise the quality of life of people there; little did she think that would turn out to be true of Belgium and France. But the same principle applies…may these concerts help people enjoy the positive aspects of creativity and music, emphasizing the good in humanity].
David

Quebec – April 11, 12, 13 – see the article below…
In an answer to a question, Lara’s Team indicated that they were currently working on the dates for the U.S., and San Francisco would be one of them. Questions about Italy and Minsk received the standard “Patience” reply from Team Lara.
In the other big item of interest, the re-release of 'Ma vie dans la tienne' leaves on Friday; here are the contents:
