The prime public activity for Lara this past week featured her appearance at station RFM in Bordeaux, in southwestern France. Meeting with fans, being interviewed on the air, and giving a mini-concert at the ‘Femina’ theater made it an extensive outing. Lara’s performance, which lasted about 20 minutes, was one of four given there,
The concert featured songs from the new album, and the interview was basically about that as well. In effect, one can almost look at it as the unofficial beginning of her ‘tour’, which as Lara noted is starting in less than six weeks:

The official video of the interview can be seen at:

Both Lara and the host emphasized the compassionate and empathetic nature of the album. They also discussed the love for her evidenced by Lara’s fans (15-20 of whom were present and won their place by sending in their name), that transcends simply the music. Lara feels it is because of the connection and communication she has established via the emotions associated with her work, and that seems to be a good way of explaining it.
As for Lara’s concert, first there is a video of her enthusiastically-received entrance, at:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=tixwmcqcpq0
Then she performed four songs, for which we have videos of varying quality. She started with ‘Ma vie dans la tienne’ at:

or (in an even larger version)
www.facebook.com/166959643357708/videos/961012463952418/
She followed that with ‘Ton desir’, available at
www.youtube.com/watch?v=aX8ic_c_hMA
She then sang ‘Quand je ne chante pas’. That can be seen in the full recording of Lara’s appearance taken by ‘Nathalie Pierre’, from approximately the 9:34 mark to 13:37, in the video at
www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cbfx5arf4Lg
Unfortunately, the camera (or more likely the phone) was rotated; for those who want to see this song with Lara in an upright position, I took the liberty of extracting and rotating it. That can be downloaded from
app.box.com/s/1im3rupw4wtzi2xru3nh320fvb9m3cv6
Lara then closed it out with a powerful rendition of ‘Je t’aime’:

The days of being ashamed of presenting the power of that song to the French public are apparently over!
One must say that after months of watching Lara primarily giving interviews, appearing on game shows, cooking, etc. it is really nice to see her back doing "what she knows how to do", singing before a live audience. She was in excellent voice, as we’ve come to expect over the last few years, and in ‘casual’ dress (validating the ‘fashion’ sense she described in GAEL magazine). That can be seen additionally in some of the pictures available, e.g., at:
www.facebook.com/166959643357708/photos/pcb.961567390563592/961567300563601/?type=3&theater
and
As a fan pointed out, and one can see on the videos, Lara did appear to be looking down at a teleprompter for the words, so one chore she has remaining in the next six weeks is quite clear!
Her choice of songs to present from the new album was interesting – one would have expected her to present the three singles, but instead ‘Ton desir’ was substituted for ‘L’oubli’. Whether that was because of its more uplifting theme, its simpler instrumentation, or just being easier to sing is unclear. But if ‘L’oubli’ is to be an effective third single, all of those issues will have be overcome.
Portions of Lara’s meeting with fans was captured on video, at:

Given the work required for her impending tour, it’s not clear how many more such promotional opportunities we may expect in the coming six weeks. But Lara’s time is not completely circumscribed, as is evident from a photo of her made public by ‘La Villa’ restaurant [in northern France] (thanks to the Lara Fabian web site for the link), at:

with the (translated) caption “I Looooooove….La Villa!!!”
At the very least, there is still the show filmed in Sicily with Thomas Van Hamme (discussed in the last Update). An article concerning it appeared in ‘Le Journal Intime de…’ (thanks to the Lara Fabian – PHQ site for the scan). Here’s the translation:
-------------------------------------------------
Lara Fabian after Annie Cordy and Adamo
Thomas Van Hamme will next present a broadcast dedicated to the singer
It is again in the direction of Italy that Thomas Van Hamme has embarked, like he did for a nice portrait dedicated to Adamo. This time, still for the needs of the eventual broadcast on RTL, ‘Le journal intime de….’, the host of ‘Bel Matin’ has found there another star of song. She is also Belgian, and also of Italian origin.
Some days ago, the smiling host, who particularly appreciates the exercise of the interview and of confidences, accompanied Lara Fabian to their countries of origin to lay the foundations in an exceptional report that will be dedicated to the artist on RTL-TVI.
On his Facebook page, Thomas shared this meeting and a little of the sunny Sicilian: “Second day of filming in Sicily with the delicious Lara. An authentic artist, profoundly humane and incredibly sunny. Thanks to you Lara Fabian”.
Fabian the artist but also Lara the woman will be discussed in this ‘Intimate Journal of Lara Fabian’, third of the genre after those consecrated to Annie Cordy and Adamo.
The date of broadcast of the program is still unknown, all the filming not having been finished.

In other news, today Lara/her team provided fans the ability to read her February GAEL magazine article on-line for free. On her FB site there was the following message:
---------------------------------------------
I am the Guest of the Belgian magazine GAEL this month! The writing has produced over 20 pages about me, including interviews, photo shoots and personal recipes inspired by Sicily and Canada. I offer you the opportunity to read this GAEL online for free! Visit www.gael.be/lara and use the access code: GAEFR2016ED02
---------------------------------------------
If one follows the instructions it does work, although you do have to include your contact information. The articles on Lara come in three sections: the personal interview (pp. 6-11 ), her meeting with Milow (pp. 96-99) and her Sicilian and Quebecoise recipes (pp. 132-139). The translation of most of this material was provided in the News Update of 1/26. However, there was an editorial introduction that wasn’t; it’s provided below:
-------------------------------------------------
When I was in secondary, in the high school in Waterloo [i.e., 15-16 years old], the students had at their disposal a classroom where they could exercise their musical talents at lunchtime. I well recall one of the budding students. Her exceptional voice, the emotion that she released, this technique and this assurance had impressed me. And what admiration when at the fancy fair, she sang on the stage of the gym room, accompanied by her father on the guitar.
Ten years later, I savored my independence proudly gained on my way to one of my first editorial meetings. Suddenly, on the radio, I thought I recognized this voice so remarkable. As well as this first name singing, Lara…What a coincidence! But Lara was called Crokaert, not Fabian.
It was not until I fell upon her on TV and in the magazines - suddenly, we heard only "Tout" and "Je t’aime" - for me to grasp that it was the same Lara, who, under an artist’s name, had perfected her talent in Canada, written albums and conquered the hearts of numerous fans.
Twenty years later, Lara counts more than 1,100,000 ‘likes’ on Facebook! In inviting her as the GAEL guest of this current issue, we have had the pleasure of discovering a little of the road that the woman has travelled, in parallel to that of the star. We learn moreover why, even if the means of modulating her power has evolved, Lara still sings with all her soul, like at those ‘lunchtime musicals”, as if she “doesn’t know how to do anything else” (as she says in her recent album ‘Ma vie dans la tienne’). Moreover, I can tell you, dear readers, she also excels in at least three other talents: making hyper love with her husband magician, Gabriel; raise with humor her daughter Lou; and cook with a virtuosity "that would make a recent widow merry” as one of her dear friends so aptly said to her.
Good reading,
Anne-Sophie Kersten,
Editor in chief.
------------------------------------------------
In addition, we can now see all of the recipes that Lara provided to them. They cover her following dishes:
**Caponata (Sicilian eggplant)
**Hamard grille aux herbes (Grilled lobster with herbs)
**Involtinis (de veau) (rolled veal)
**Tortiere quebecoise (Quebec meat pie with ground beef)
**Cannolis
**Pain dore au sirpo d’erable (French toast with maple syrup)
Don’t read these recipes on an empty stomach – they are mouthwatering!
Somewhat less appetizing, the new album dropped another 9 places last week on the French charts (to 64th in physical sales), estimated now at close to 80,000 discs sold. It rose one place to 12th in Belgium. We have not yet received any further news as to when the video for ‘L’oubli’, for which one can have very high hopes, will be finished/released.
Interesting photo(s) of the week (in addition to those taken by RFM of Lara with her fans, and of Lara at ‘La Villa’):

And an interesting one of Lara with Gabriel, from the “L’adorable Lara” FB site
www.facebook.com/621559817932666/photos/a.621567507931897.1073741827.621559817932666/965014416920536/?type=3&theater
We are now entering what would appear to be a ‘valley’ or sorts, between the extensive promotion of the album, that has tapered off quite a bit, and the upswing for the next tour, for which one assumes there will be a new round of publicity (in addition to the concerts themselves). We can expect Lara’s time will be increasingly devoted to rehearsals and planning. But it seems Lara and her team, with her now hyper-active FB site, are creatively providing news each week – may that continue!
