The dominant news this past week was Lara’s celebration of her 46th birthday last Saturday. She noted the event on her FB page, first with a message about her family’s celebration, “In this morning's birthday... My daughter and my husband have prepared such a beautiful table... And my daughter made me pancakes!" The accompanying set of four picture can be seen at:
www.facebook.com/larafabianofficial/photos/pcb.1045533058821524/1045533002154863/?type=3&theater
The message /photo received over 32,000 likes, and there were over 7,000 comments wishing her happy birthday, in one language or another.
Of course, the various fan sites provided their own birthday greetings for her. Among these, perhaps the most ingenious was organized by the 'Lara Fabian Is Here' site, which put together a video of people from different countries singing ‘Happy Birthday’ to Lara in their respective languages. People from the following countries participated: Italy, Slovakia, Cyprus, Germany, Czech Republic, Israel, Bulgaria, Belgium (Flemish portion), USA, France, Russia, and Turkey. [Actually, it covered many of the countries Lara actually visited in the last year]. It can be seen at:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=XwHnVanUtN4
[Fortunately, a judge just ruled that the song ‘Happy Birthday’ was no longer under copyright protection! E.g., variety.com/2015/biz/news/happy-birthday-song-public-domain-copyright-1201600319/].
Part of their accompanying message read, “Who is Lara Fabian ? She is just a great singer ? We just love her songs ? No, of course not.. We love her heart, her soul, her character, her thoughts. She touches our lives. She teaches us to love the world, the people, everything and everyone. Religion, language, race is not important for her. People are people, and everything starts with the love of people. You can find personal feelings and social issues in her songs .She touches our hearts and our souls…”
Also impressive and sincere was a video of about equal length (7 minutes) put together from appealing clips of Lara plus personal testimonials/wishes from Brazilian fans, available at
www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7UkHNgmuPc&feature=youtu.be
The ‘Lara Fabian est ton autre’ site used a beautiful picture of Lara in their Happy Birthday wish,

while the ‘Operation Fan Club Lara Fabian’ had a gorgeous picture with Lara’s name and appropriate accompanying sentiments, at:
www.facebook.com/OperationFanClubLaraFabian/photos/a.674006339373232.1073741828.673991206041412/887788977994966/?type=3&theater
From the Lara Fabian Mexico site and the fans in Latin America,

And the media chipped in: MFM Radio publicly wished her a happy birthday,
as did other notables, e.g., the dress designed Igor Gulyaev (via the Lara Fabian connecting people site)
vk.com/lf_cp?z=photo-121236_401133079%2Fwall-121236_211572
- among numerous other sites, people and media outlets.
In response to all this, an excited Lara wrote, “Thank you for all your messages, your gifts, your love.. Thank you! I love you! ❤” and included a video saying pretty much the same thing, visible at:
www.facebook.com/larafabianofficial/videos/1046259198748910/
That then received more than 16,000 likes and more than 1700 comments expressing love for her in one form or another. [It’s also available at www.youtube.com/watch?v=nagBtqsNp18].
The Lara Fabian – PHQ site posted a general ‘horoscope’ for Capricorns, featuring Lara’s picture, by Deborah Barsky . (https://www.facebook.com/353946178085395/photos/a.353954938084519.1073741828.353946178085395/796387957174546/?type=3&theater). Here’s what it says (in translation)
----------------------------------------------------------
LOVE:. Pluto doubled the Sun in your sign incites you to re-evaluate things and consider your emotional life in a new light. You might reconnect with a love of the past or decide to start on a sound basis with your spouse. Venus protects you. Tuesday, a good evening appears.
MONEY: If you look for a job, the stars shall help you finally find the way in which you will flourish. Mercury transforms you and modifies your behavior. You become more adult. An important meeting takes place Monday.
HEALTH: Your form proves radiant.
------------------------------------------------------------
There would seem to have been some truth in the ‘Money’ aspect over the past year, and Lara certainly hopes the ‘Health’ reading is 100% accurate!
In a further honoring of her birthday, ‘puretrend.com’ has an article entitled “The six most notable looks of Lara Fabian” (http://www.puretrend.com/article/lara-fabian-ses-dix-looks-les-plus-marquants_a144696/1) [thanks to Lara Fabian Web for the link]. The article starts out, “Not a diva who wants, Lara Fabian has understood: sexy necklines to vestal gowns, the Belgian-Canadian singer has dared the most extravagant outfits. Of what to rival Mariah Carey ...” and then for each of 10 different pictures of Lara’s usual outfits, they provide a critique. It is worth detailing them here:

Except for error in material or color, smoking masculine is rather a safe bet on the red carpet. Befits many morphologies and its simplicity makes it an excellent base, so this is a no-fault for Lara who plays the male / female card to the first degree, glamorizing all with her cascade of curls.
2) static1.puretrend.com/articles/6/14/46/96/@/1603656-lara-fabian-a-46-ans-624x0-1.jpg
Let's face it, satin is to be consumed with care ... Her brilliant aspect sometimes flirts with the synthetic and leaves no room for poorly localized roundness. Even if one understands that the precious stuff could seduce the ‘singer of voice’ in search of glamor, it does not validate the dress with the effect of gift wrapping paper ... but we salute the audacity!
3) static1.puretrend.com/articles/6/14/46/96/@/1603636-lara-fabian-a-46-ans-624x0-1.jpg
We are not against the asymmetry, nor the white…but the buxom figure of Lara would have deserved a shot a little closer to the body to be highlighted! This outfit however has the merit of making the hits of ABBA resonate in the minds of the most nostalgic among us!
4) static1.puretrend.com/articles/6/14/46/96/@/1603631-lara-fabian-a-46-ans-624x0-1.jpg
Told you we are not against the asymmetry! Bare shoulders and necklines, cutout graphics that value the figure, vestal inspiration ... Here are the ingredients of an invincible diva dress!
5) static1.puretrend.com/articles/6/14/46/96/@/1603621-lara-fabian-a-46-ans-624x0-1.jpg
When she dares the transparent, Lara does it with subtlety and elegance. Loose fitting bat effect sleeves may not appeal to everyone but it gives a small side seam which singer of voice can not do without. Adele had better watch out.
6) static1.puretrend.com/articles/6/14/46/96/@/1603616-lara-fabian-a-46-ans-624x0-1.jpg
It is not only the "fiery couple" Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake who will have had their total denim look moment: Lara Fabian has not gone through the early 2000s without participating in the game of denim ... and that, that deserves to be noted.
7) static1.puretrend.com/articles/6/14/46/96/@/1603641-lara-fabian-a-46-ans-624x0-1.jpg
From her duet with Johnny Hallyday, Lara Fabian has retained a certain taste for leather but, far from falling into the Californian biker style, she assumes a tight dress with feminine cuts that flirt with transparency.
8) static1.puretrend.com/articles/6/14/46/96/@/1603601-lara-fabian-a-46-ans-624x0-1.jpg
Lara loves chocolate, oh, oh, oh lala .... Okay the cause is tempting (14th edition of the Salon du Chocolat), but whether it be a matter eating or wearing it, chocolate does not forgive any excess ....
9) static1.puretrend.com/articles/6/14/46/96/@/1603606-lara-fabian-a-46-ans-624x0-1.jpg
Perfecto red, satin tight pants: this is an outfit of L5, not of a diva. Veto. [Note: L5 was a French girl group playing popular music].
10) static1.puretrend.com/articles/6/14/46/96/@/1603686-lara-a-46-ans-624x0-1.jpg
Lara this is how we came to know her, it is like that that we love her: long black coat half open on a minimalist top, in short, the best of the 90s! Which makes us want to retake "Je t’aime" repeatedly.
----------------------------------------------------------
Admittedly, over the years Lara has not been known for her outfits. In fact, a review last year mentioned the audience shouldn’t expect flashy dresses, that for Lara putting her voice out front is the important thing. Yet she doesn’t get enough credit for some of the clothes she does wear, and it’s nice that this article provides that perspective. Lara can be as adventurous in this domain as she is in others, when she has a mind to be.
As far as promotional and other media appearances, there were a few. As scheduled the broadcast of “Une Nuit avec les héros de la santé” took place. It featured a video of Lara joining medical personnel at a hospital dealing with patients with the HIV virus, and on stage to honor these ‘health heroes’, visible at:
www.facebook.com/353946178085395/videos/795709830575692/
Pasco Obispo was there on behalf of his work the Sidaction initiative to fight AIDS.
From the compassion side Lara would have made a wonderful medical practitioner, although one doesn’t know how squeamish she would be. She did openly admire the courage of the people she was with during her time with them for this show.
On this program, Lara presented the song ‘Ma vie dans la tienne’, available at:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=mSJTwUSDIIg
Lara provided a link to this on her FB page, even though it appears it was done via ‘lip-syncing’ for no apparent reason, given that there were plenty of musicians on stage with her. One must say that that was not in the spirit of the show, where the ‘courageous’ medical personnel do no just ‘go through the motions’ in their jobs.
Also Lara was featured on France Bleu’s ‘Tour de chant France’ with a 25 minute show featuring a discussion of her full recording history, including extracts from her career (e.g., ‘Tout’, ‘I Am Who I Am’, ‘La Difference’) as well as the new album. The 'Lara Fabian Web' site put the audio recording of the program on their multimedia site, specifically at
www.larafabianweb.com/media/audio/passagesradios/Maviedanslatienne2015/LFTOURDECHANTFRANCEBLEUNORMANDIE10012016.mp3
This morning Lara’s FB page provided a link to a publication featuring her, ‘Tribu Move’, a publication primarily for the LGBT community in France and Belgium. The ‘Lara Fabian Is Here’ site provided the complete scans. It starts with a review of the new album, and then continues with the interview. Here is the translation:
-------------------------------------------------------
If ‘Le Secret’ (2013) was a mystical quest, philosophical and spiritual, Lara continues her interior introspection in the search for happiness.
Today, she sings her life, our life, life in general, with its highs and its lows, its joys and its pains as witnessed by the two first singles: ‘Quand je ne chante pas’ and ‘Ma vie dans la tienne’.
Everyone will identify with the lyrics of the album ‘Ma vie dans la tienne”, available in CD standard (11 titles) and Deluxe (bonus 2 titles + DVD clip and making-of).
This optimistic 16th album, co-written and co-composed by David Gategno (Celine Dion, Lovane…) and Elodie Hesme (Florent Pagny…) takes guts as it is upsetting and will touch our souls and our hearts. If it does not contain the secret of happiness, it gives the tracks and the keys to get better and especially to recover!
A true musical psychoanalysis, with its themes serious and light, which permits Lara to re-center the human being on the chessboard. She thus returns to the first aim of music: to be interconnected by the emotions which unite use. This connection, while our society is prone to individualism, can save us from ambient loneliness (one of her battles).
Lara proposes for you to join her for a great musical communion: 18 March (Brussels), 19th March (Liege). 20 March (Anvers), 3 June (Paris)…
-----
What was the trigger to make this new album?
LF: The trigger, it is this moment of great silence induced by this auditory accident where I lost hearing. A time that I am at home, surrounded by my whole family. I reflected and I asked myself these questions: Do you remember why you do what you do? Do you remember the sense of that for yourself? What is it which continues to be involved in your momentum of joy, or your enthusiasm, of your determination? What is the meaning? What is it that you do here? What is it that you want to do? I then remembered why I work in this métier, but especially how I do it, before being in a space or like all artists, one tries to reiterate a success, to balance a notoriety, to continue to exist…Before all that! When I wrote songs, not to do something, but just because I was that. I remembered that moment, and I said to myself: “It is that which I want to do!” I want simply to put myself in a place where I wrote, where without filters, I translated some emotions that I felt without trying to make a hit. Rather than when I was what I did, how was I? And especially how did I feel? I have reconnected to this essential. It is like that, that ‘Ma vie dans la tienne’ is born. On its heels I dreamed of working with David Gategno. I called him and went to see him in the studio and it was like proof. I am sure that he was my brother in music and Elodie Hesme was a soul sister in music and in writing. In meeting them, I understood that I had found my musical family for which I had been searching for a long time.
Do you think that one can get lost?
LF: You can be loyal to a philosophy, be linked to your family without compromise, but after all you don’t do this métier all alone, you are surrounded by many people who in their way contribute to helping your career continue to exist. It is sometimes that one losses a little the view that the only thing that can truly contribute to the longevity of the career of an artist, it is that never, one doesn’t forget the reason and the sense of that which one does. At a given moment, you look for it! You are perhaps no longer in connection with the first reason. I understood at a given moment that it was perhaps not the key. The key, it is to renew with a way of writing. You are always the direct filter between what it is you live and what you write. In ‘Le Secret’ I was in a total introspection, in phase with all sorts of therapies and cures which suggested to me a way of life. Our search, our maturation, our evolution, we do it across our albums, but not in a confidential manner. ‘Ma vie dans la tienne’ is the universal expression of joys, of pains that we all know and which interconnect us. ‘Le Secret’ was a phase of my life where I was rather centered on myself.
Do you realize that this album can help others move forward, recover…?
LF: For once, I have not tried to make something (laughs). I’ve truly said, written and sang things without filter. The first aim of music, it is to be interconnected by some emotions which unite us. That is my aim and my objective! If I have succeeded in that, I am delighted!
You go to the depths of the human being like a musical psychoanalysis.
LF: That speaks of true emotions, of true joys and profound pains that we have been able to live. That speaks of what we can all live with the deepest portions of ourselves. A psychoanalysis, it is simply to be capable of analyzing in all our dimension, what we are inside.
There are some words which come: love, compassion, empathy, connection, honesty and peace.
LF: The connection is important for me for we actually suffer from isolation, from solitude, from terrible pains which put us on the margin of others and the sense of life as a human being, it is to contribute to the other and that the other contribute to our life. This can only happen through a sincere connection.
How did you work with David Gategno and Elodie Hesme?
LF: We spoke to one another. There was no hierarchy of writing. We knew some incredibly profound moments. Either we were in tears, or we couldn’t stop laughing. There were some moments that we were so upset by the honesty, that we could finally propose, without being in judgment, we were safe and we could put everything on the table, the good and the less good and we made this album. I am happy with this disc, positively moved, I am also happy that that corresponds to many people for they tell me that it touches them.
What did you want to say to your best friend in ‘Ma vie dans la tienne’?
LF: It is an exceptional relationship, it has lasted for 30 years. Nathalie, she is the love without adjective, the love with just a capital letter, there are never any expectations, demands, requests of social contract…Our love is that one that we would all live, even in our amorous relationships. I draw a parallel with the amorous relationships that we can have. I should transcribe the love we have in my own relationships with each other.. I thank her for having me learn that it was possible.
Is there an ambiguous part?
LF: One can interpret it like that, but it is more a way of saying: the teaching that I have of our love is one that I should have had with my loves. If I had known I was going to take myself so far, I would have put my life in hers! The unique ambiguity that one can see there, it is that I say: “It is you that I would have chosen to love”, where the sense of the term love, whereas what I mean, it is that I would have integrated this means of loving in my amorous relationships. Nathalie is an exceptional being: if there were more Nathalies on Earth, there would be less problems between beings!
What are the fights that you take to heart now?
LF: Since always, it is tolerance. I’ve done it for many biases and by God I’ve endorsed the gay cause. I’ve always been extremely linked to that for very personal reasons. Certainly, it is not easy every day, but today, we advance. It is magnificent that gay marriage is legal in the United States. For me, my cause, it is tolerance irrespective of the form in which you can interpret it. It is grace: open our hearts to others, stop being judgmental, stop with the verb to be in the sense of judgment, just let people live how they are. In tolerance, there is the true possibility of sharing, of healing, of comprehension and of communication, My battle is still and always that!
What is your position on homosexual parenting?
LF: Me, I am for life. For two people who love one another for a long time, for whom it is the absolute desire to see the entrance of another life in theirs and of educating it as if it were there child, personally, I don’t see the problem. In my clip, ‘Deux ils, deux elles’, there is a gay couple with a small girl. I am for all the rights that allow one to choose life. Is is a battle that one can lead or simply an opinion that I express? For me, this should not be a battle!
Many adolescent gays are today rejected by their family.
LF: It is terrible. I lack air in my lungs! Me who am a parent, I cannot comprehend that one could reject one's offspring. I would be the first to stand up.
---------------------------------------
A very interesting interview. Note that Lara’s position on one-gender parenting has evolved over time; at one point, she felt it was necessary for both genders to be represented, but now she apparently feels love and fulfillment are more important.
The promotional aspects are now winding down, and so the fate of the new album will be largely in its own hands. It has fallen in the last two weeks from 23 to 30 and now 36 in the total sales charts in France (from 22 to 24 and then 29 in physical CDs), with an estimated 76,000 in sales. In Belgium, it moved up one place, and is now 8th, having been in the top ten all 9 weeks. One expects that a third single may well be released at some point in preparation for the beginning of the March tour.
In related promotional news, it was announced that Odacity is now going to be ‘in charge’. Here is their announcement

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
After having embarked on a journey with Lara Fabian with the single "Make me yours tonight" in 2014, and been in charge of the coordination of the promo, communication and media work of her new album "Ma vie dans la tienne" in 2015, we are entering now a new phase in our cooperation. We are happy to announce that, as of January 1st 2016, Odacity has been appointed as the Management Company of Mrs.Lara Fabian. As the Odacity Team (including the "Team Lara"), we look forward to develop great projects with Lara Fabian in various countries in 2016.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Congratulations to them! We had (mistakenly) attributed the increased professionalism of Lara’s ‘Team’ to Warner France’s influence, when actually it seems Odacity was primarily behind it. Let’s hope they continue their successful approach!
In some past news, Nathalie Delhougne posted (on the Lara Fabian – PHQ site) a video of Lara singing various songs at the Bel RTL Showcase from last November, at
www.facebook.com/nathalie.delhougne.1/videos/558410487650877/
Links to the audios of the six songs themselves were given in last week’s Update.
On a personal note, this week marks the 10- year anniversary of these News Updates. The first Update was on 1/14/06; it noted the report that Lara was in Los Angeles to record a multi-language album. The report later turned out to be untrue! (as so many of the rumors over the years have!). I note this to emphasize that one should not believe everything one reads – even here!
At the risk of alienating the Gods through hubris, I can say that the News Updates have been posted every week over this 10 year period, i.e., 520 weeks in a row. All of these Updates are still available on-line, at

Upcoming events are few, but this Thursday, ‘L’Oeuf ou la Poule’ [The Egg or the Chicken] will be broadcast on D8. At some point after that one assumes Lara will be working on the setup for her concerts, starting in March. We’ll see if any promotional events will be held leading up to that.
