In this week straddling the old and new years, Lara pretty much maintained her ubiquitous media presence. She participated in various TV and radio shows celebrating the end of the year including a big spectacular New Years’ Eve program on TF1, ‘Le 31 tout est permis avec Arthur’. Videos of Lara can be seen at:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=q3ir_RMnNo8
getting to dance a bit, and at
www.youtube.com/watch?v=5OMEUKdB6_E
with brief a cappella version of her ‘greatest hits’, all good-naturedly.
Then there was a ‘Mime Chain’ – it’s a game like ‘Telephone’, or ‘Chinese Whispers’, but instead of passing on a whisper, one passes on a ‘mime’ from one person to another along a line. Lara, playing the role of ‘the blond’ to perfection, screwed up by saying her guess out loud – they then had to start over . The ‘Mime’ truly changed with time, from ‘King Kong’ to ‘La Cage aux Folles’! Lara then got the expression, “to have an hourglass figure’ , which too was subject to great misinterpretation as it went along. This segment can be seen at:

Another highlight of the show was an acrobatic couple dancing on roller skates on a platform (doesn’t involve Lara except as an amazed on-looker; several of the other guests however were taken for a ride!) but truly worth seeing, at:

Also broadcast on the 31st was Lara’s appearance on ‘L’annee des stars’ on RTL TV with host Maria Del Rio (and others), available at
vimeo.com/150575495
(and also the full show on Nabbox.com). As reported last week Lara and Maria displayed a great rapport, discussed various topics especially the new album, also her ‘French’ tour around the world, and included an ad-hoc a cappella bit of ‘Croire’. There was also a nice segment on Lara’s recent dedication signing show in Belgium. All in all it was a very complimentary appearance. [On the full show there were also a few other intervening segments including one on the charismatic singer/actress Louane Emera, so Lara’s portion in all totaled a bit more than 15 minutes].
In a related event, in what Lara called “keeping the tradition of TV at the beginning of the year", an excerpt of bloopers from the show was broadcast on RTL TV (on ‘Le Grand Bêtisler), and linked to by Lara’s site:
www.facebook.com/larafabian.artist/videos/782557655221532/
Shortly after the New Year, Lara’s appearance on the game show ‘Le Grand Blind Test’ aired; the whole program can be seen at:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=JBzLur0vhJ4
An extremely enjoyable time, in which the contestants had to name the singer of songs whose first few moments were being played (they had a multiple choice of four singers to choose from each time). Lara did quite well, as might have been expected, while Veronic Dicaire shone (and did a wonderful interpretation of Lara’s intensity in singing ‘Je t’aime’); however, neither of them was on the winning team, dominated by Anggun, Jean-Luc Lemoine and Vincente Niclo. Vincente won the individual competition at the end. It was easy to be amazed by how well these people did, a program not to be missed! BTW, one could hear how far Lara’s songs deviate, in general, from the popular music that dominated the program.
Another highlight was the airing of the Showcase that Lara did for Bel RTL a little while ago. The six songs she sang are available, thanks to the Lara Fabian – PHQ site. Specifically,

It was a wonderful performance, and a chance for us to hear these songs live before her concert tour. A replay of the full two hour program can be heard at:
www.rtl.be/belrtl/emission/le-showcase-de-lara-fabian/1325.aspx
Early last week Lara called in to support the program ‘Viva for Life’, to push for donations to help poor children in Belgium. A video of the call-in can be seen at:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ni6H17G2J98
Also discussed there was Lara’s appearance on the show ‘C'est votre vie P. Sébastien’, which had Lara’s well-received song to him. She was excited by the whole thing, and the host had trouble getting in a word edgewise!
After all this Lara went away on vacation in Spain for the beginning of the New Year. We know this because another thing Lara has continued from last year is keeping in touch as on her FB site, in this case with a couple of photos.
First there were four interesting pictures, at:
www.facebook.com/larafabianofficial/photos/pcb.1041801655861331/1041800705861426/?type=3&theater
with the caption, “I just picked up the tree... Put on my raincoat.. And I'm off to see the orange trees in Andalusia... I want to share with you crazy laughter and sun...
Then, at:
www.facebook.com/larafabianofficial/photos/pcb.1042353402472823/1042353169139513/?type=3&theater
with the caption, ‘Breakfast a la francaise, delicious…at the Honore in Spain.
One would presume this holiday is giving her a chance to practice her Spanish. Maybe it will even encourage her to take a business trip to South America and give concerts to fans living there (even if the most obvious ones, Brazilians, speak Portugeuese).
‘Purepeople’ has noticed how often Lara is now posting on her site, including last week’s Christmas revelations, so they said of her that she, "like her colleague Celine Dion is a true ‘open book’ about her life”. (http://www.purepeople.com/article/lara-fabian-devoile-les-dessous-de-son-noel-en-famille_a170187/1)
The positive publicity would seem to be having the hoped for effect in terms of fan response. Lara’s single ‘Quand je ne chante pas’ was elected by fans ‘Song of the Year’. on Bel RTL. Lara’s picture with Serge Jonckers can be seen at:
external-lga3-1.xx.fbcdn.net/safe_image.php?d=AQDE0B2vIoIgfMV7&w=300&h=300&url=https%3A%2F%2Fscontent-cdg2-1.xx.fbcdn.net%2Fhphotos-xtp1%2Fv%2Ft1.0-9%2F12400487_1041875849187245_4823613094569451201_n.jpg%3Foh%3D3779d4050f1f663e0f71b88fa29964f3%26oe%3D57072066&cfs=1&sx=84&sy=0&sw=525&sh=525
Also Lara was named as one of the contestants for the "D6bel Music Award " of the RTBF in the category "lively artist " [certainly an appropriate moniker for her!]. From Lara’s FB site: “The prize will be awarded on January 22, at a ceremony broadcast on rtbf. The votes are open, and you can vote to support Lara by following this link! : www.rtbf.be/d6belsawards/nommes
We're counting on you! Team Lara”
On the charts, France does not seem to have updated their rankings this past week, probably because of the holidays, but sales have by now certainly exceeded 70,000. The new album remains at #9 in Belgium, therefore staying in the top 10 for its eight straight week.
In the past month, Lara’s habit of mocking herself good-naturedly has come to the fore, and produced very positive results in the media. She actually discussed this in an article in the Parisian at the beginning of December. The translation is provided below (thanks to the larafabianweb site and Pascoule for the link).
----------------------------------------------------------------------
The words not to say to children, the importance of the second degree…
The singer, age 45, recounts for us that which life has taught her.
Each week, a personality takes a photo for us and delivers, pell-mell the small lessons of her life. Useful tips for the day or surprising anecdotes.
“NOT TO TAKE ONESELF SERIOUSLY IS THE KEY TO APPEASEMENT. Before I was very first degree, I reacted badly to the least barrage that was thrown at me. But thanks to Gad Elmaleh, who practices self-derision so well, I’ve learned that to know how to mock oneself was essential for feeling good about oneself.
IN SICILY, THE WOMEN ARE THE BOSSES. I am Italian origin, so I know something of it. On the exterior, one has the impression that Sicillian men are true machos, that they direct the family with an iron hand. In reality, it is the women, with their natural aplomb, who make all the important decisions.
THE HEAD CHEF, HE IS A PRIEST. I have a girlfriend cook who works 15 hours a day in her establishment! With this rhythm, you sacrifice your social life. Pity, because I have always dreamed of opening my own restaurant. Perhaps that will come, but for the moment, I don’t have the time.
THERE ARE SOME WORDS ONE DOESN’T SAY TO A CHILD. When I was small, I wanted to become a dancing star. I came to a classical dance class and the teacher said to me: “You truly believe that one day someone could lift you?” Good, it is true that I had some kilos too much at the time, but his worlds truly wounded me. Suddenly, I completely stopped dancing.
WE REPEAT OUR FAILURES IN LOVE. A girl to whom one always said “You are ugly” or “You’re not worthy of us” is going to unconsciously look for a companion who will treat her the same way. Because she knows only that, quite simply. And then there is an awareness, at a given moment, which you make the discovery that there are many other ways of being loved.
A WOMAN HAS A HARD TIME FINDING HERSELF BEAUTIFUL. Quite simply because she finds beautiful all that which doesn’t resemble her. A girl with curly hair will always want it straight, and inversely. We don’t generally have confidence in ourselves, it is like that. It is because of that that our men must remind us without stopping at what point they find us magnificient.”

In upcoming events: as noted on her FB site, Lara will be the guest of Michel Drucker, for a special broadcast in order to pay tribute to the nurses, orderlies, doctors, researchers and other "Hero of health". It will be broadcast this evening (January 5) on France 2; a promotional video for it, including showing Lara in a white medical coat, can be seen at:

Lara has certainly had her own recent medical experiences from which to gain more appreciation for the work these people do.
On January 14th, Lara will be on the show “L’Oeuf ou la Poule” (the Egg or the Chicken) on D8. A picture from that can be seen at:

According to the site, “On the show, personalities compete at a game, but only one of them will walk away with the Golden Egg.”
And of course, this coming Saturday, January 9th, is Lara’s 46th birthday. We wish her another 46 years, of wonderful health and serenity, increasing wisdom, with much joy – and of course, great music!
