The news this week about Lara cannot be separated from the political events of the past week concerning the bombings in Paris. Lara left the following (translated) statement on her FB site:
“I'm horrified by these abominable acts. My condolences to the French and to France. I pray for all the families who have lost a close being....”
and on her Twitter site, a picture of a candle,
twitter.com/search?q=LFabian%20Official&src=typd
and the caption: "Humanity in mourning ... my prayer, my lighted candle .... stay united ..."
The event has even more relevance to Lara than first met the eye, as it’s now becoming clear that the heart of the planning seems to have gone on in Molenbeek, Belgium, a municipality in the northern part of Brussels, which has been implicated in terrorist activities previously. Lara lives in (or at least has a house in) Waterloo, about 18 km south of Brussels, so not too close to that region. Nevertheless, there is justifiable concern if the authorities in Belgium have difficulty controlling terrorist groups in their own country. The Belgian Prime Ministers Charles Michel said, “There is almost always a link with Molenbeek. That’s a gigantic problem of course.”
‘Audrey Testa’ for ‘la page des fabianesk’ has put Lara’s song “Relève toi” to relevant pictures – it is both heartbreaking and fortifying at the same time.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXCooEHc-cw
Lara should release this as a new single – and that is not (only) a commercial suggestion, but one that could be salutatory for the emotional state of the country. [The fact that she wrote and released it prior to the incidents of concern would make it clear that she was not capitalizing on the horrible events, after the fact].
As has often been said, art, in its search for truth, can transcend political differences, so we now turn our attention back to Lara’s artistic activities, without minimizing these other circumstances…
The first returns have come in concerning sales of Lara’s new album, ‘Ma vie dans la tienne’. In France, it opened up on the French charts for the week of November 2, #3 in physical sales with 14,902, plus 1335 digital sales, for a total of 16,237, good for #4 place in total sales. Actually these total sale numbers are pretty similar to those of ‘Le Secret’ the first week, which you may remember opened at #1, but then dropped to #11, #26 and #34 in subsequent weeks. So this opening, while impressive, is not as important as its endurance, something the following weeks will tell us. It is also #3 in Belgium in its first week.
The iTunes sales, as of this date (11/17), are: #11 Belgium; #31 France; #49 in Russia; #70 Belarus; #150 Luxembourg; ; #183 Mauritius. Interestingly, as of three days ago, one of the bonus songs, ‘C'est ma terre’, was #168 in Azerbaijan (!).
There are videos available for her promotional events, some of which occurred before the Friday incidents, hence the more lighthearted approach…The links are shown below, along with their duration, and a brief summary of what went on:

What friendship really means; the album being a rebirth associated with her accident; without a filter addressing emotions as she’s never done before; 32 million records sold, is what is said, she says she had previously thought there were only 20 million; then a cooking lesson with pumpkin.
The question of how many ‘records’ sold is really quite an ambiguous one, not only for Lara but really for every artist. If one were to take literally the ‘Charts in France’ tally, including both albums and singles, one comes up with ~12 million. That’s undoubtedly an underestimate, as, for example, they have no real number for ‘I Will Love Again’, no real idea of how many ‘Mademoiselle Zhivago albums were sold in Russia or the ‘countries to the east’, and their numbers for many of the singles in Canada, even from ‘Pure’, are completely missing. This should then be taken as a (very) lower limit at best.
Wikipedia lists more than 20,000 million, which is probably closer to the truth. The 32 million figure that is now being thrown around associated with publicity for this album presumably came from somewhere – maybe Warner France has a more complete accounting. At this level, does it really matter?

LARA FABIAN ON THE SHELVES ALREADY WITH ‘MA VIE DANS LA TIENNE’
Published November 12, 2015 by Steph Musicnation
Lara Fabian already a hit with 'Ma vie dans la tienne'
Released last Friday, the new album of Lara Fabian called 'Ma vie dans la tienne' is already quite naturally among the best-selling albums in France.
Preceded by the singles 'Quand je ne chante pas' and 'Ma vie dans la tienne', this new step in the discography in the already great career of the singer could be described as moving, real, sincere but not only because the album is full of songs more punchy, more rock like the titles 'Le desmour', 'Ton desir' or 'Elle Dance'.
Lara Fabian offers to her audience an album that resembles her, bright and tender at the same time, 'Ma vie dans la tienne' is a very beautiful album with beautifully and brilliantly written lyrics.
Among the titles that close this album, one could cite ‘L’oublie’, S’il ne reste qu’un ami’, or ‘Le coeur qui tremble'.
It is necessary to fight in the charts at the end of the year in view of the dense music news but Lara Fabian ought to play the game well with 'Ma vie dans la tienne' which the artist will defend on tour in the month of March 2016 with a passage in Paris at the Palais Des Congress on June 3rd!

Another very positive review, obviously. I’ve posted my review of the album in the separate thread. I encourage anyone interested to comment on it, and/or to add theirs as well.

LARA FABIAN: "NO QUESTION OF BECOMING EMBITTERED BECAUSE OF ATTACKS ON SOCIAL NETWORKS"
By Serge Igor
Lara Fabian withdrew from showbiz for ten months to treat partial deafness. Cured, she returns with a new album, ‘Ma vie dans la tienne’, and it is a woman with a calm face and confident smile whom we met.
CLOSER: YOU RELEASE AN ALBUM AND TOUR THAT WILL START MATCH 16, 2016. A SMALL MIRACLE THAT AFTER THAT WHICH OCCURRED…
Lara Fabian: It's almost a very old and bad memory. During this period, my body behaved like an admirably intelligent machine, and offered to me another way to listen to music, even if I did not immediately recover my hearing. Today it is behind me and not at all a problem.
TO RECORD, IT WAS NECESSARY TO FIND YOUR VOICE, A VOICE DIRECTLY TIED TO YOUR EAR…
Yes, completely tied to the ear. It is like losing the use of her legs for a dancer, or of her eyes for a painter. For a singer, hearing is almost more important than the voice, for it is the road which leads to the sound.
YOU HAVE THEREFORE RECUPERATED COMPLETELY, IN THE BASE AS IN THE TREBLE?
I confirm it to you.
IT IS YOUR INTERNAL LEFT EAR WHICH SUFFERED, IS IT THAT?
Both. In fact, I received 1000Hz in stereo in a headphone. One ear suffered a little more, that’s true…
HOW DID YOU RECUPERATE WITHOUT YOUR HEARING?
There is a very strict medical protocol but, essentially, it is that I had to never believe that it was irreversible. That was the most important thing, more important than treatment.
YOU NEVER HAD A MOMENT OF DESPAIR WHERE YOU THOUGHT YOU WILL NEVER SING ANYMORE?
Yes, in the beginning, when the diagnosis fell. I was extremely upset. After, I adopted a more valiant way of envisioning things.
YOUR DAUGHTER LOU WILL BE 8 YEARS OLD IN NOVEMBER. DID SHE FEEL THE DIFFICULTIES THAT YOU WERE EXPERIENCING?
Even if I was upset, it was first to me to protect her. I arranged that she never be touched by the difficult circumstances. But I have had the good luck of having put into the world a little sage who has been a support, more than an observer. She and my husband played a major role.
AND YOUR PARENTS?
Yes, they were there, like they have always been, as well as my best friend, Nathalie. I have quite a solid clan around me and very tight for a long time. It is how I held back these events, it is how my family has been – supportive.
BUT WHEN ONE CAN NO LONGER HEAR THEM…
I stopped for ten months, but my problem didn’t last as long.
HAS THAT CHANGED YOU?
I am someone more at ease, more serene, capable of taking things with a little more distance. This isn’t exclusively from what happened, but all the more or less beautiful steps that one traverses in a life and which participates on this road that we make towards ourselves. One lives more with the sense of the being than of ‘doing’ or of ‘being active’. No, that did not begin with this auditory accident.
FROM WHEN THEN?
From when I turned 40.
YOU CO-WROTE MOST OF THE SONGS OF YOUR ALBUM. WOULD THEY HAVE BEEN THE SAME IF THERE HADN’T BEEN THIS ACCIDENT?
I think that ‘Ma vie dans la tienne’, which speaks of the great joys and great pains that interconnect us, is an album in phase with what I am today. Transparent and without filter. It is written with that which composes me today.
WE SPEAK OF ‘L’ILLUSIONNISTE…
Ah yes! The song for my husband…
YOU WRITE – L’illusionniste is the only man who knows what love means. HE IS THE MAN FOR WHOM YOU HAVE WAITED?
Yes, that, it is truly very fair.
YOU ARE THEREFORE MARRIED MORE THAN TWO YEARS WITH THE MAGICIAN GABRIEL DI GEIORGIO. BUT IN LIFE, HE IS NOT…
It is that (laughs). It is all his art…At the same time, L’illusionniste speaks to all the women who see in their lover someone capable of creating this magic while loving. It is that which Gabriel does daily. He is capable of creating a world of lightness, of magic and of a rare simplicity.
WITH THIS TITLE, YOU WOULD HAVE A GOOD OCCASION OF HAVING HIM ON STAGE AT YOUR SIDE. HE IN ITALY WHERE HE WORKS, YOU IN FRANCE FOR YOUR TOUR, IT WOULD BE A BEAUTIFUL WAY OF NO LONGER BEING SEPARATE…
It is a beautiful invitation in any case. (Smiles). We are in the course of imagining the concert of ‘Ma vie dans la tienne'. That is therefore not excluded. When one has a lot of love – and God knows there is that in our relationship –that could contribute to nourish the happiness that one finds on stage.
GABRIEL IS ITALIAN, THE FATHER OF LOU, GERARD PULLUCINO, WITH WHO YOU LIVED FOR SEVEN YEARS, IS OF ITALIAN ORIGIN…YOUR ITALIAN ROOTS (THROUGH YOUR MOTHER) ARE ESSENTIAL?
I have always been Italian in my soul. With my husband, who is from the same town as my mother, I live still more concretely my ‘Italian-ness’. I am so Italian in my manner of loving, of cooking, of protecting my family, of loving my daughter. Moreover, my husband and my daughter call me ‘mama’ !
YOU HAVE ALWAYS INSISTED ON THE FACT THAT YOUR SEPARATION WITH THE FATHER OF LOU HAS BEEN A SUCCESS. ON YOUR CD, LE DESAMOUR SPEAKS OF KNOWING TO SPLIT UP IN PEACE. IT IS AUTOBIOGRAPHICAL?
Not at all. Although I have experienced difficult situations in love. It is a disenchantment that we all can live one day. Certain songs speak of me and others, no.
THE LIST OF YOUR DESIRES SAYS THIS: “I HAVE MUCH BETTER FOR YOU. ME COMPLETELY NDUE. THE ONE ON THE OTHER WHERE YOU WOULD LIKE” . SAY, THIS IS DARING!
You find? We have fun, no?
YOUR NEXT SHOW, WILL IT BE DIFFERENT FROM THE PRECEDING, THAT YOU HAVE PRESENTED ON THE STAGES OF THE WHOLE WORLD, EXCEPT IN FRANCE?
Yes, for it will be based on this new album. November 6th, you could see in the cinema ‘Un soir autour du monde’, the best-of of this international tourney, recounting 25 years of career, where I sing in five languages. It is a gift to the French fans who weren’t able to see this show.
C.: YOU SAY THAT YOUR RIVALRY WITH CELINE DION WAS A COMPLETE FABRICATION. HAVE YOU ADDRESSED THE SUBJECT WITH HER?
LF: We have never had the opportunity to speak, although we met several times. But I'm sure that it makes her laugh as it makes me laugh! I know that there are some clans of fans who clash, who try to protect and put in front their artists, but I do not carry any accusation. One has always put us in parallel, which is in a manner legitimate, because we belong to the same family of voice. I see it more as a comparison that honors an artist than like a war exhibited. I have a profound respect for Celine.
C.: MANY SINGERS CLAIM TO BE INJURED BY WHAT THEY READ ABOUT THEMSELVES ON SOCIAL NETWORKS. HOW TO AVOID IT?
LF: There is no way to avoid it, just do not take it to oneself. When it's nasty, very aggressive, very frontal, like any human being we defend ourselves ... We must not become bitter about that.
YOU READ THEM NEVERTHELESS?
Ah, no, not me! That is not part of what surrounds me in life.
C: IN YOUR DEBUTS, THE TELEVISION REALITY SHOWS DO NOT EXIST. WOULD YOU BEEN ABLE TO BE CANDIDATE?
L. F.: Absolutely. I do not know if I would have possessed everything that I needed for that. At the time, Eurovision, where I competed was a window. Today, it is these broadcasts that are the windows. Some magnificent artists have emerged: Nolwenn Leroy, Jenifer ... I'm not part of the detractors.

--------------------------------------------------------------
Lara Fabian: The Day When I Met My Future Husband, Gabriel
In 2012, after a lovers separation, I was in Sicily, my native land, when I met the man who would change my life.
As told to Anthony Verdot-Belaval
I just left Gerard Pullicino, the father of my daughter, Lou, five years old. If the separation was in fact, smooth, nevertheless I need to find again my marks. I want to occupy myself anew. A friend proposes to me then to work as a vocal coach on a project of musical comedy in Acireale in Sicily. I hesitate. But I can not resist. Acireale is the birth city of my mother. Down there, the fishermen fish opposite Etna and among the churches and old ports, there is the Academy of the Arts.
Having just arrived, I am presented with the team of “Casanova”, the future musical comedy. The following days, I am involved with the first auditions. A man with long hair comes on stage last. He is named Gabriel di Giorgio. He is at the same time an instructor and a member of the troupe. He looks at me but doesn’t say a word. That day, I am a washed out version of myself: hair not done, no makeup, and not dressed to my advantage. However…I will learn much later that at a single glance Gabriel is certain of it: I am the woman of his life! Me, I do not share his enthusiasm. I am in my bubble. Here is work, one focus that’s all.
During the course of the rehearsals, I go to discover Gabriel. First the artist who can sing everything easily. Then the man. Of Sicilian origin from Acireale. In some months, I fall in love. One event, when the sky was clear, we were sitting facing the sea. Gabriel and I see then at the same time two stars moving. In my mind, even if this is infantile, I take it as a sign and I say to myself: “Lara why are you waiting to kiss him?” It is the beginning of our romance.
In June 2013 we are in agreement: it is time for us to marry. Like it’s obvious. To celebrate this union, Gabriel offers me a brilliant hematite. Ever since, I keep it always on me. It is my good luck charm. This stone reminds me that I am loved. To the infinite. A Sicilian loves his woman in a sacred manner and protects her. Thanks to Gabriel, I believe again in love.

We know Lara has a dog – but we don’t often see her on a show promoting the welfare of animals.
She also has several more appearances planned for later in the month, on November 27th – a showcase in Brussels at the studios of Bel RTL, and the program ‘Stars sous hypnose’ on TF1.

Hopefully, the barbarism of this past week will not obscure for us the good that exists in the world. Lara and her work exemplify this quality; through all the ups and downs, she has tried to build a life for herself and to provide value fulfillment to others through her art. To create rather than to destroy. There could not be a greater contrast.
