Album introduction by French novelist Marc Levy
At silence’s end, when life’s sounds returned to her, Lara wished to write.
To write without asking the sorts of questions that an established career and past accomplishments give rise to; to write with a sole desire – to find a renewal that comes with carefree beginnings. Moments where one creates without worry as to whether or not success will follow, but rather for the sole joy of singing and sharing.
And then one night Lara dreamed about David Gategno. She found his contact information and called him the next morning. A meeting was arranged right away, and a train-ride later they greeted one another in the studio. A true encounter, human and artistic.
And so it was with the complicity of David Gategno and Elodie Hesme that this album would be created in the days to come …
The shared creative idea that propelled them would be to write lyrics that brought Lara happiness and to break away from solitude, from the isolation in which a fleeting yet cruel deafness had plunged her. To express an absolute need to reconnect with others while telling her story.
To accept that their inspiration be free from high-stakes or premeditation, and rather carried only by a burst of joy.
The musical color of this album is at once somber and modern. Lara wanted songs that could both be re-sung and re-listened to.
This is the result, a veritable ode to life, a strange sort of ‘second-time’, she says.
And it’s true – all the songs on this album tell stories. No only her own, but those of the many who have listened to her for many years, and indeed those who are rediscovering her now.
Of the 11 songs that comprise this album, her favorite is ‘L’Oubli’ (Forgetting.). It speaks to a subject that touches her in particular: solitude, and the loss of oneself that can follow from it when one goes so far as to forget oneself and disappear, so as to no longer suffer.
But it is time for rebirth. She will come to erase the torments of the past without ignoring them, for indeed they are at the source of the emotions that comprise the creative temperament of an artist.
And this album illuminates a new path for this artist – frank yet generous – like a golden autumn that portends, rather than winter, the renewal of the year to come.
‘Ma vie dans la tienne’ (My life in yours) is a confessional song about the wish to give. A declaration made to someone who has loved us profoundly even as we have neglected them, or rather, to someone we have profoundly loved without having always been loved in return.
‘Ma vie dans la tienne’ is dedicated to her best friend, a testimony to the differences, the things unsaid, even those forbidden, though ultimately to the incontestable love, in friendship, that she holds for her.
The album also testifies in its multitude of musical colors and lyrical range the artist’s multiple origins: At once Belgian, Canadian and Italian, Lara fluently speaks English, Spanish and Italian.
