As expected, various media appearances dotted Lara’s landscape this past week. What they had in common was the promotion of her new album, often through the vehicle of her second single, carrying the album’s name, ‘Ma vie dans la tienne’. We’ll start with the TV shows.
Leading off is Lara’s appearance on ‘La Grande Soirée Cap48’ shown on La Une (RTBF). It is a Belgian telethon to help support the charity that deals with people with disabilities. The highlight of the evening for Lara fans was her performance of ‘Ma vie dans la tienne’, which clearly has taken over as the single to be pushed from the album. This show celebrates ‘hits’ from the past, hence the medley. Nevertheless, it is appropriate that the two songs from ‘Nue’ were used, since Lara’s been comparing the new album to it. In fact, the brief glimpse we had of the official video for ‘Ma vie dans la tienne’ reminded some fans of the one for ‘Aimer deja’ from ‘Nue'. On to the radio programs: Lara was on Vivacité on RTBF in Brussels (although one could also see it on the web, at www.youtube.com/watch?v=NruuHINAvsE). It didn’t start out very well, since she was stuck in traffic and didn’t arrive in time for the live interview to be held in person, so she had to call in. Nevertheless, the interview itself had a light air about it, and we got to hear brief extracts of two other songs from the album, "Envie d'en rire" et "L'illusionniste" (they are available at 3:19 and 4:00, respectively), and they further the conception of this as a thoughtful album.

**Marc Levy, whose book Lara held up in the video for ‘Quand je ne chante pas’, kindly agreed to write her biography for the new album;

That the ‘Illusionist’ was dedicated to him, and he was moved by the song. But as he is a very reserved person it was only via his eyes, which were burning, that she could tell. ‘Le Coeur qui tremble’ was dedicated to her daughter, and ‘Ma vie dans la tienne’ to her best friend. The album tells of the joy of love, and the pain of the victims, all of which has been refracted through the prism of her life.
**The Moderator came across a promotional interview of some 20 minutes that she had given in Canada, and was very surprised to hear Lara talking with a Canadian accent! [We are well aware that she does this
]. How was this possible? Lara replied that her musical ear adapts, her whole life she has had this strange ability – and then proceeded to discuss ‘Ma vie dans la tienne’ using a Belgian accent.

**Writing the album with ‘David’ and ‘Elodie’ was like a second beginning, where, like on your very first album, you just write without thinking about any kind of recipe for success, without caring whether it will succeed.
** "Le coeur qui tremble" ("trembling heart"), which the moderator called ‘a great song’, is written with Lou in mind. It is about the anxiety that a parent feels for her child, with worries such as will they be safe, and am I being insufficiently strict. That the concern for the child becomes both a strength and a weakness.
**The ‘Illusionist’ was written, not surprisingly, for her husband Gabriel – not because of ‘tricks’, but because true love is without tricks, and in that it almost makes us believe in true magic. Lara never thought it would really happen to her, and now she feels that anything is possible.
**Concerning the ‘colorful’ album cover: Even though a cover is not so essential or apparent nowadays, when people buy a lot of digital music, Lara still feels it’s important, and she wanted one with bright covers that are consistent with the spiritual fullness of the album. She noted that when you hold a smartphone to the cover, you will automatically be able to download an application that will alter it with 5-7 different photograms.
**Concerning the ‘Concert in Prague’: Lara said, “It is a time card from my trip around the world, which I have done with all my songs in different languages, and especially in French. The peculiarity of the concert is that the French, French-language music has traveled everywhere. And no matter where I was in New York, Los Angeles, Moscow, Prague, Berlin, ... no matter where I was, of course, and in Canada. Everywhere, wherever I sang songs, and I sang in my native language, and I was heard. And I wanted to preserve the photograph, card, the memory of the moment when my career was presented in the French language around the world. "Evening around the world" - is a gift to the French-speaking fans who could not be there because I was away. But the concert was not shown in the French-speaking countries of Europe. It's a gift to them, lets say, "Look, thank you for all the French-speaking songs that you love to travel with me and in other countries, to some extent, it is thanks to you."

LF: "This album was a highlight for me, despite this most difficult stage in my life”, says Lara Fabian, who had almost lost her hearing after an auditory accident. “This is almost nothing more than a bad memory now. It's been two years. I have almost completely recovered. And the part I have not recovered, I live in sound completely differently. The body is an incredibly intelligent machine. When something lacks, it makes space for another way. So I listen to music more with my body than with my ears today. But it is a miracle that I was able to recover so much from my deafness "
What allowed you to keep going?
LF: "My family, my entourage and my husband (Editor's note: the magician Gabriel Di Giorgio to whom she dedicated one of her songs, L’illusionniste) in particular. An unfailing support every second. Between me and myself, also I succeeded in turning this moment of silence into an incredible gift. I got closer to some thoughts. What do I really want? Not what do I do but who am I really? Full of answers that led me to compose this album. "
With ‘Ma vie dans la tienne’, you repeat the story of your life?
LF: "It is in any case an album written without filtering where I speak to many people around me as one would write them a letter. It speaks of joys, of the great accomplishments and loves of a life but also the obstacles and sacrifices to achieve it. And in that it is very personal but also universal. For we all seek this connection to each other. My songs are ferrymen of emotions, of feelings and of messages."
As this hymn to the woman that is ‘Quand je ne chante pas?
LF: "In a way, yes. Although I have written rather to create a link between what is seen of me and what one does not see that I live. I am really like everyone else, I embrace my daughter coming home from my concerts. I am simply in a profession that requires great devotion and a real boost of joy. I am a girl who wakes up in a good mood and who considers that she has very good luck in doing what she does and having the family that she has. I'm a serene girl and full of gratitude."
Who sings, to paraphrase your title, that's all she knows to do…
LF: "Yes, well, I do not cook too bad either (smiles) No, but that is what really defines me, it is what I am. If I had not been a singer, I would have truly been in trouble [in the ‘shit’]. Even though I'm sure I would have done something for children, in social services. Everything that concerns their welfare, positioning in society, which sometimes they miss."
Especially since it is not easy to be a ‘singer of voice’ nowadays...
LF "Music is a constant renewal with cyclic musical orientations. Just like the definition of success. But it is normal, we change. I do not only listen to Barbra Streisand and Ginette Reno. At one time I was listening to Vanessa Paradis until I had a headache. It is a definition that belongs to Europe as in the US, whether it be Beyoncé, Rihanna or Katy Perry, they continue to legislate. They do not have this etiquette in the USA, it is a French phenomenon. The music still has a place. Even the singers of voice. Me, I have the desire to return to the tradition of the great popular songs that I've always written and sung."
With its share of critics. How to deal with this kind of setback?
LF: "Like all artists. These are the fries and mayonnaise. It doesn’t exist, careers of 25 years, where everything is pink, beautiful and nice. It affects, it is clear, but at some point you have to mature and grow old with it. Surely there were real reasons why a part of what I was, was not quite perceived as you yourself sent it. I am something of an extreme, passionate and very open, some need more silence. Today I am almost 46 years old. One is not the same, one grows up on camera. Young, we put ourselves in phase with our extravert or introvert side. Shyness is sometimes seen as snobbery. The people of our milieu suffer sometimes from their character traits. We are misunderstood. But I got it where for me there might have been contempt and I have no bitterness ."
The older we get, the stronger one is?
LF: "Or the more we accept our weaknesses. We stop dressing it up. Younger, we want to do so well that we mess up. As we age, we just simply welcome all that is. One is not trying to disguise. It is more in phase with what one is than what one did. I listen more to the sense of my instincts, much less to the sense of listening to me speak as I have done in the past ."

As usual, another wonderfully intelligent interview; ask Lara a question and you get a probing and profoundly considered reply. As far as the video is concerned, Lara admitted that she knows nothing about ‘football’ (soccer) (that she is a ‘blond’ and she admits it!), she prefers tennis - but the next time she is asked she will know the names of at least two of the Belgian soccer team members. Also that she has never written a song about Belgium, as she has done about ‘Rio’ and ‘Quebec’ [‘Je me souviens’], but it was a good idea. The Belgian style is to live in a relaxed manner, “live easily and with pleasure”, to have fun, go to the bar and chat. That she ‘loves to have fun’, to meet new people, even if her audience doesn’t really know that. That is the ‘Belgian’ (‘debonair’) side of her.
Another event associated with this was a contest for fans. As explained by Lara’s ‘team’: “The readers of the Belgian Daily, the DH.be, have had, through a competition organized by the journal, the opportunity to meet Lara yesterday and listen with her to a few titles [3] of her new album "Ma vie dans la tienne". This coming week will mark a break for Lara from live promotional events at least, although the new video should be appearing on the 15th. Lara will be in Turkey for her three concerts, from Oct. 15-17; hopefully there will be some video from them. It will be a change of pace for her, once again singing full songs, live. Actually, it is curious timing, coming in the middle of her build-up for the new album, which one expects she will jump back into by next week.

My life in yours.. ".... An album written without a filter…"
Before the release of her new album ‘Ma vie dans la tienne’, the Belgian-Canadian singer confided to DH and to her fans.
LF: "This album was a highlight for me, despite this most difficult stage in my life”, says Lara Fabian, who had almost lost her hearing after an auditory accident. “This is almost nothing more than a bad memory now. It's been two years. I have almost completely recovered. And the part I have not recovered, I live in sound completely differently. The body is an incredibly intelligent machine. When something lacks, it makes space for another way. So I listen to music more with my body than with my ears today. But it is a miracle that I was able to recover so much from my deafness "
What allowed you to keep going?
LF: "My family, my entourage and my husband (Editor's note: the magician Gabriel Di Giorgio to whom she dedicated one of her songs, L’illusionniste) in particular. An unfailing support every second. Between me and myself, also I succeeded in turning this moment of silence into an incredible gift. I got closer to some thoughts. What do I really want? Not what do I do but who am I really? Full of answers that led me to compose this album. "
With ‘Ma vie dans la tienne’, you repeat the story of your life?
LF: "It is in any case an album written without filtering where I speak to many people around me as one would write them a letter. It speaks of joys, of the great accomplishments and loves of a life but also the obstacles and sacrifices to achieve it. And in that it is very personal but also universal. For we all seek this connection to each other. My songs are ferrymen of emotions, of feelings and of messages."
As this hymn to the woman that is ‘Quand je ne chante pas?
LF: "In a way, yes. Although I have written rather to create a link between what is seen of me and what one does not see that I live. I am really like everyone else, I embrace my daughter coming home from my concerts. I am simply in a profession that requires great devotion and a real boost of joy. I am a girl who wakes up in a good mood and who considers that she has very good luck in doing what she does and having the family that she has. I'm a serene girl and full of gratitude."
Who sings, to paraphrase your title, that's all she knows to do…
LF: "Yes, well, I do not cook too bad either (smiles) No, but that is what really defines me, it is what I am. If I had not been a singer, I would have truly been in trouble [in the ‘shit’]. Even though I'm sure I would have done something for children, in social services. Everything that concerns their welfare, positioning in society, which sometimes they miss."
Especially since it is not easy to be a ‘singer of voice’ nowadays...
LF "Music is a constant renewal with cyclic musical orientations. Just like the definition of success. But it is normal, we change. I do not only listen to Barbra Streisand and Ginette Reno. At one time I was listening to Vanessa Paradis until I had a headache. It is a definition that belongs to Europe as in the US, whether it be Beyoncé, Rihanna or Katy Perry, they continue to legislate. They do not have this etiquette in the USA, it is a French phenomenon. The music still has a place. Even the singers of voice. Me, I have the desire to return to the tradition of the great popular songs that I've always written and sung."
With its share of critics. How to deal with this kind of setback?
LF: "Like all artists. These are the fries and mayonnaise. It doesn’t exist, careers of 25 years, where everything is pink, beautiful and nice. It affects, it is clear, but at some point you have to mature and grow old with it. Surely there were real reasons why a part of what I was, was not quite perceived as you yourself sent it. I am something of an extreme, passionate and very open, some need more silence. Today I am almost 46 years old. One is not the same, one grows up on camera. Young, we put ourselves in phase with our extravert or introvert side. Shyness is sometimes seen as snobbery. The people of our milieu suffer sometimes from their character traits. We are misunderstood. But I got it where for me there might have been contempt and I have no bitterness ."
The older we get, the stronger one is?
LF: "Or the more we accept our weaknesses. We stop dressing it up. Younger, we want to do so well that we mess up. As we age, we just simply welcome all that is. One is not trying to disguise. It is more in phase with what one is than what one did. I listen more to the sense of my instincts, much less to the sense of listening to me speak as I have done in the past ."

As usual, another wonderfully intelligent interview; ask Lara a question and you get a probing and profoundly considered reply. As far as the video is concerned, Lara admitted that she knows nothing about ‘football’ (soccer) (that she is a ‘blond’ and she admits it!), she prefers tennis - but the next time she is asked she will know the names of at least two of the Belgian soccer team members. Also that she has never written a song about Belgium, as she has done about ‘Rio’ and ‘Quebec’ [‘Je me souviens’], but it was a good idea. The Belgian style is to live in a relaxed manner, “live easily and with pleasure”, to have fun, go to the bar and chat. That she ‘loves to have fun’, to meet new people, even if her audience doesn’t really know that. That is the ‘Belgian’ (‘debonair’) side of her.
Another event associated with this was a contest for fans. As explained by Lara’s ‘team’: “The readers of the Belgian Daily, the DH.be, have had, through a competition organized by the journal, the opportunity to meet Lara yesterday and listen with her to a few titles [3] of her new album "Ma vie dans la tienne". We don’t know what the first ‘Un soir autour du monde’ is – could it be the whole film, or more likely, just the trailer for it, with then the two songs, Immortelle and Pas sans toi, selected out as the next item. The‘Making of’ is presumably about one of the clips or perhaps the film itself; Lara has a photo of the filming of ‘Ma vie dans la tienne’ on her Instagram site, at
http://instagram.com/p/8hrngCB850. But where are the ‘unreleased Krutoi songs’, that FNAC promised – and that they are still promising at the top of their page? From the titles it doesn’t sound as if they are the two bonus songs, although anything is possible.
More promotional events are on the way. Lara has recorded the program ‘Face to Face’ for RTL TVI in Belgium, that will air later on. Her team posted a picture of her at the event, at:

It has also been reported that Lara will go to Quebec to appear on an interview show with Éric Salvail; Lara’s team has confirmed a Quebec promotion. This coming week will mark a break for Lara from live promotional events at least, although the new video should be appearing on the 15th. Lara will be in Turkey for her three concerts, from Oct. 15-17; hopefully there will be some video from them. It will be a change of pace for her, once again singing full songs, live. Actually, it is curious timing, coming in the middle of her build-up for the new album, which one expects she will jump back into by next week.
