In lieu of any new performances, or even promotional events in the media, Lara and her ‘team’ have continued to engage fans through her official FB site. This past week that has included:
**We have prepared for you a little quiz about the music video of "Quand je ne chante pas". Just for fun.. Let's play" Team Lara
(advice: watch carefully the music video before playing..)
to play, click here: tinyurl.com/quandjenechantepasquiz
The questions include:
1) How many vehicles pass in front of Lara in the music video?
2) What is the title of the book that Lara holds in her hands, when she is seated on the bench?
3) What does Lara hold in her hands, when she is seated in the movie theatre?
4) What is the color of the bed sheet in the music video?
5) What is the last sentence sung by Lara in the music video?
[For me, the first and last questions were the hardest… ]
**"We plant basil at home... It smells so good!..."
followed by some nice pictures of Lara doing just that:
www.facebook.com/larafabianofficial/photos/pcb.953587641349400/953586641349500/?type=1&theater
In response, as expected, fans generally did like basil, some in fact planted it, and it reminded others of Sicily and associated food.
**"I want to review my kisses...
So you won't forget that you are mine.."
Have a beautiful Friday my angels. L. ♥
And then provided a link to the song ‘Review My Kisses’ from the album ‘A Wonderful Life’:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=94FsSonptEc
The focus on this song made people wonder whether Lara is planning to do anything more with it (perhaps a French version), or else why bring it up? You may remember the full story of this song – Lara wanted to include it on her first English album, but was prevented by Sony from doing so. It then went on to become a big hit for Leann Rimes. As a (small) consolation prize, she did manage to then have it on her second album from Sony, when she said she wouldn’t take no for an answer.
The link also reminded people on other sites that Lara has 11 studio albums now available on youtube, at:
www.youtube.com/user/larafabianoff/video
For some reason, the first (self-titled) English album is not there – an issue with Sony, perhaps, or simply oversight? The ‘Live’ albums are not there either.
**"Do you still (or again) listen to vinyls ? We have included a 45 RPM Vinyl , featuring two additional exclusive (instrumental and a capella) versions of "Quand je ne chante pas" into the Limited Edition Deluxe Box of Lara's album
To order (also international orders): bit.ly/1frDEDc "
Team Lara
The response fell into one of three categories: either fans said they were ordering it and looking forward to playing it; or they were interested in getting it as a collector’s item; or they said they had no way to play vinyl records, and so would not.
**”A beautiful memory from last July - Backstage, before the concert, with my angels in charge of the FB pages LARA FABIAN IS HERE and Lara Fabian Cyprus. I am so grateful to all of the various Facebook page editors and administrators, for all you are doing... " Lov, L.
www.facebook.com/larafabianofficial/photos/a.215378125170359.50343.201065806601591/955164011191763/?type=1&theater
A number of the fan website administrators then wrote in, indicating their pleasure in helping to support Lara, and their love and appreciation for her; she then thanked them explicitly. An example:
----------------------------------------------
-Lara Fabian Holland Thank you so very much Lara Fabian! It's such a pleasure to dedicate our Dutch fan page Lara Fabian Holland to you! We share the same passion, beautiful music and your amazing voice! Hopefully we will see you soon in Holland! Wishing you a sunny Sunday! Greetings, Marc
-Lara Fabian Thank you Marc, and see you very soon in the Netherlands [her 'team' then went on to explain that nothing had yet been set up...].
---------------------------------------------
Speaking of Cyprus, a video of many songs from Lara’s appearance in Northern Cyprus has become available on youtube; it can be seen at:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qiaEcdLmkI
**"A "selfie", found in my smartphone...A wonderful sunny week to all !"
with the accompanying picture at:

People then wrote in mentioning some reason for ‘selfies’ or just what the week had in store for them – vacation, birthdays, etc., to which Lara replied accordingly.
** "Today, a year ago.. an encounter, a friendship... Mustafa Ceceli .. and a beautiful adventure, "Make Me Yours Tonight", which accompanied me across the world..."Lara then provided a link to the English version video of ‘Make Me Yours Tonight
youtu.be/Xu6imkChHzY and accompanied the text with some photos of the two of them, at:
www.facebook.com/Larafabianturkiye/photos/pcb.697840660292716/697840450292737/?type=1&theater
That video too had its supporters and detractors, the latter feeling it was somewhat wooden and Lara did not dance, the former that it presented her in a beguiling appearance.
**In response to questions concerning the tour for the new album, there was this:
“The dates and cities for the 2016 tour are still not known. Information a propos this much later” Team Lara
Apparently there are television adds in various French cities for the Prague concert movie release; it is interesting how Lara and her team have hitched the new album, and her whole image in France, to the showing of this movie. And also how the publicity has ramped up even though it is still several months away. One wonders if it is going to continue non-stop for all that time – and whether it is going to work...
In the same light, one imagines that this whole ‘interactive’ approach also has a strong commercial incentive propelling it. [Not that Lara does not enjoy her fans/angels… but she likely did so when she had no new album on the horizon, and didn’t post anything on her site for weeks on end]. We will see how long it continues after the new album’s release…Nevertheless, it is welcome, not least by the same fan site administrators whom Lara acknowledged above, for it gives them (us) something to write about in this otherwise somewhat fallow time!
In other news, the new video for ‘Quand je ne chante pas’ is still inciting mixed reviews, while it is getting continual exposure. Some of the on-line sites that highlighted it this past week include:

Hence it Is being seen outside of France/Belgium, e.g., in Europe and Russia (and probably elsewhere).
Here are some generally positive (translated) comments from the last link:
-------------------------------------------------------
The charming Belgian singer Lara Fabian introduced the clip to the new song ‘Quand je ne chante pas’. The composition is written in the singer’s native French. The repertoire of the 45-year-old legend has compositions also in English, Spanish, Russian and Italian.
The music video shot in the director's complex long frame technique shooting continuously without the use of mounting episodes. Actions take place on the stage of the clip. All decorations are made of cardboard. What is happening in the scene resembles a school play. Lara Fabian moves smoothly between decorating installations, performing a song at the same time. The actress does her job quickly and with a smile, so that the clip is generally perceived positively.
The composition ‘Quand je ne chante pas’ is part of the eleventh album of Fabian ‘Ma Vie Dans la Tienne’, whose premiere is announced for November 6 this year. Earlier, in February and March, the singer released two collections of the best songs in her work.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
And, on the other side, a (translated) article from (http://www.potins.net/musique/lara-fabian-clip-enfantin-ne-lunanimite-140913.html#.VbkOEvSqdpk.facebook) :
----------------------------------------------------------------
Lara Fabian: Her childish clip does not pass unanimously
Lara Fabian is back with a magnificent song that seduced well the French: ‘Quand je ne chante pas’. The video clip of the title was released yesterday exclusively on the Internet, the singer is very proud to announce the news to her fans on her Facebook account.
Since her terrible hearing incident last year, Lara Fabian had to stop her career for several months. She had lost hearing due to improper handling of a technician that occurred on a television set. Depressed and suffering, Lara Fabian has had to overcome this difficult time. But it is finally with her beautiful smile she returns to the front of the stage with a brand new title, fresh and sparkling.
The song is meant to be intimate. It speaks of Lara, her daily life as a woman like others. And no doubt, this is golden and already a great success, especially since she has performed it live[sic] on television the evening of the Festival of Music.
Unfortunately, the video is not up to expectations, far from it. Lara Fabian announced the arrival of her video Friday, July 24 on Facebook, asking the opinion of her fans.
“And here is my music video for “Quand je ne chante pas”. Do you like it, my angels ? Lov, L.”
And most of the answers are irrevocable. Examples:
“It is disappointing, such a beautiful song, a clip so light. I don’t adhere to it sorry, I’ve known better from Lara…”
Or again:
“Sorry, I'm very disappointed. This clip lacks soul and a little teaching. It would have been superb shot in the true reality by following the words of the song. What a pity!”
Oops! Coming directly from the great admirers who follow her on her Facebook page, this is bad…Our opinion? We are a little in accord. If the song is really pleasant to listen to, the clip is not exciting.
The sets are simplistic and childish. A desired effect but not always successful, which is not at the height of this song, that is nevertheless very female and very adult. As for Lara Fabian ... if she is resplendent and smiling, perfectly coiffed and highlighted in a light and casual way, she lip synchs. And we know, lip synching is not made for her!
In short, a clip that is nothing special and disappointing, which does nothing to take away the beauty of the song which for once, is very pleasing. And after all, that is what is most important, no? Come on, the next video will be better, that’s for sure.!
And you, how do you find it? [There were actually no responses].
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
In the eye of the beholder…one person saw the cartoonish presentation and appreciated it, the other thought it childish. As suggested in the last Update, the divergence of opinion is at least partly related to the divergence of the music (upbeat and bouncy) and the lyrics (serious and somewhat despairing). It was not going to be easy for Lara to satisfy both, so it is a matter of which one thinks is more important.
Lara’s recent re-emergence in France has led to a renewed interest in her past work. One example of that is a celebration of Lara’s song ‘Tout’ by Fabien Lecoeuvre on BFM TV, as can be seen at:
www.bfmtv.com/mediaplayer/video/chansons-populaires-tout-de-lara-fabian-599744.html
The accompanying text reads (in translation), “Fabien Lecoeuvre, a specialist in French song, discovers for you throughout the summer the trade secrets of the greatest hits. Return to the genesis of "Tout" by Lara Fabian. In May 1990, the singer met in a Brussels bar a pianist with whom she will live a true love story [Rick Allison]. But after their breakup in 1996, Lara Fabian, very affected, wrote "Tout" for her new album. This hit undoubtedly transformed her fate.”
Regardless of the exact truth of that story there is no doubt that it is one of her greatest songs, although it seems to have been overlooked in her recent ‘best of’ tour [which was not appropriately named. ‘Selection’, as chosen for the album in Turkey, would have been more appropriate. Note that the concert in Prague is not called ‘best of’ but ‘Un Soir Autour du Monde’ (An evening around the world)].
The host of this show actually has a book out, covering 650 of the ‘favorite’ French songs, and their history. The advertisement for it can be seen at (http://rmc.bfmtv.com/emission/fabien-lecoeuvre-l-invite-de-15h20-du-1203-868650.html). Presumably ‘Tout’ is included in it. (Thanks to Thierry Palomares on the MZ FB site for the link that led to this one}.
Another example is the choice of Lara as ‘Artist of the Week’ by FUTUREPOPMedia (https://www.facebook.com/FUTURPOPMedia?fref=ufi), and what video did they choose to illustrate that? The official clip of ‘I Am Who I Am’ from some 15 years ago (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2ZszCb5Yx4E). It would have been extremely difficult to predict that! Along with ‘Tout’ and ‘Review My Kisses’, this song makes an extremely unlikely triumvirate to have made the news this week .
A number of fans have commented on how active Warner France has been in promoting Lara; it is not by chance that so many media outlets have picked up her video, or have segments on her past work, or that advertisements for the Prague concert movie release are being seen on television. And the company is featuring her prominently on their website (http://www.warnermusic.fr/). One must say this is a far cry from her treatment by Universal, where Lara was not even included directly on their website list of performers (she was actually associated with one of their subsidiaries, Polydor Records). Not to mention her experience with Sony, who failed to release ‘A Wonderful Life’ in any English speaking country. Let’s hope it continues…
Interesting photos of the week – any of a number that Lara herself has recently put on her FB site, as linked above (particularly the ‘selfie’); also from Operation Fan Club Lara Fabian,

As far as we can tell, next week looks like it will be a replay of this one, with continued interaction on Lara’s FB site, and occasional promotions of her November releases. At some point Lara may again go on vacation – true probably for most of you as well!
