Several lead items of interest from this past week. Obviously, the biggest one concerns Lara’s release of the video of ‘Quand je ne chante pas’, whose link was given in the previous thread. It is a light, bouncy, cartoonish representation, produced with ingenuity; Lara is beautiful and happy. As usual for videos, it is lip-synched, so the music quality is high. All in all, a very intelligent production.

Also, in the video (e.g., vk.com/lf_cp?z=photo-121236_379004798%2Falbum-121236_00%2Frev), Lara is shown holding up a novel of Marc Levy, “Elle & Lui” [Her and Him] (http://www.amazon.fr/Elle-lui-Marc-Levy/dp/2221157834). According to amazon.fr, it is a ‘totally unpredictable and compelling’ love story between an English woman and an American man, who should not fall in love. She is a star, and he doesn’t know it. Perhaps Lara relates…
As can be seen, the above reviews are all extremely positive. Lara also asked the fans what they thought of the video, and she could not have been perfectly happy with the response, which wasn’t as uniformly positive. Actually, their opinion about this video is quite divided. Those who liked it felt that it matched the rhythm of the music and of the summer season, applauded Lara’s happiness and appearance. Those who didn’t wanted a more realistic representation of the words, with actual scenes from Lara’s life (and maybe even an appearance by Lou). They felt it was not serious enough. They use the video of ‘J’y crois encore’ as their analogue [for those who don’t remember it, it’s available at www.youtube.com/watch?v=AmeO8OsDsKo).
And this divergence underlies the inherent contradiction of ‘Quand je ne chante pas’ – the music and the lyrics don’t really match, despite what the above articles said. The words, as one fan put it, are not ‘happy’ – they detail the restrictions Lara had to go through due to her ear problems, the limitations she felt as a human being prevented from doing ‘the only thing she knows how to do’. The music on the other hand is a summer ditty, one that could easily have lyrics to a beach scene [and that would have made an appropriate summer video]. This may also be indicative of a contradiction in Lara’s current state – she wants to be personal and truthful about what she went through, but she also wants to be popular – and with ‘Le Secret’ she might feel she has plenty of recent evidence that in order to be popular you have to be somewhat ‘upbeat’ (literally and figuratively). [But this may not be the real lesson - ‘Nue’ was certainly not a ‘happy’ album overall, but it was very successful. The difference is that ‘Nue’ was personal, whereas ‘Le Secret’ was abstract…]. We’ll see when the new album comes out how these issues are resolved.

To put it in perspective, on Amazon or FNAC the CD itself is going for 16 euros while the CD+DVD (Deluxe set) sells for 19 euros. This Fan Deluxe box set is 45 euros (plus another 9.5 euros for shipping, and double that for some international countries), payable by credit card or paypal. Lara indicated on her site that it IS available to the international audience from this site (e.g., U.S., Canada, Russia, Australia, England, etc.) although not all countries are yet included (e.g., Brazil, Egypt, Mexico, etc.) – they are working on expanding the list.
The instructions for ordering are in French. Concerning the DVD in this edition, Lara’s people tried to clarify the issue, but ultimately ended up raising even more questions. They were asked directly (and not for the first time) whether there will be a DVD release of the movie “Un soir autor du monde” for fans outside France and Belgium (or, really, even for fans in those countries). Their response was, “A DVD with extracts of the movie is included in the Deluxe Edition sold on Amazon.fr (not to be confused with this Limited Fan Deluxe Box presented here). Team Lara”. They were then asked was it the same DVD in both the ‘Deluxe Edition’ and the ‘Fan Deluxe Box’” Their answer was, “There is only one DVD." But we still don’t know what ‘extracts’ of the movie really means…highlights? A select set of the songs? All the songs, but none of the extras to be shown in the full movie? Or is it really exactly what will be shown in the cinema, though they don’t want to say that for fear of reducing the audience of the ‘one night’ showing ? It would seen incumbent upon Lara’s team to clarify what they are asking people to purchase, but, again, they may have some disincentive for doing so [or there is some slight chance it hasn’t been decided/made yet…].
At the same time Lara’s people have been promoting the movie itself, in particular the appearances Lara will be giving for the preview showings. They also clarified that the general ‘one-night’ release will actually be on November 5th in Belgium, one day before its November 6th event in France. Answers from the fans are pretty much what you would expect (except for their mixed response to the music video). Among them there is a sprinkling from fans around the world, emphasizing again that Lara should generally put her announcements on her FB site in languages other than just French.

A well-known writer gave an interview in how to keep engaged with an audience on Facebook, and Lara seems to be following that playbook, consciously or not. Here’s what the author said:

Someone says something witty to you and something witty occurs to you, say it back. When you hit the end of ten minutes, stop. Lara adds to the process by posing innocuous questions, so she is guaranteed a response to play off of. For many years, fans have complained that Lara does not interact with her audience (and she herself said her interaction was primarily through the lyrics of her songs, and her concerts). This was the time of the year when Lara used to go to the New Wave Festival in Latvia, but as we now know, it has been moved to Sochi, Russia due to political issues (i.e., Ukraine). We’ve also now learned that it’s date has been changed – first it had been moved to August 25-30, but now it’s been pushed back even further, to October 2-11 (http://newwavestars.eu/en/information-about-the-changed-of-date-of-the-international-contest-new-wave-2015/). No indication that Lara is on board to go, but she would appear to have more time to decide. This Fan Deluxe box set is 45 euros (plus another 9.5 euros for shipping, and double that for some international countries), payable by credit card or paypal. Lara indicated on her site that it IS available to the international audience from this site (e.g., U.S., Canada, Russia, Australia, England, etc.) although not all countries are yet included (e.g., Brazil, Egypt, Mexico, etc.) – they are working on expanding the list.
The instructions for ordering are in French. Lara’s team, recognizing the difficulty this imposes on some of her audience, included the following clarification: “For those who have a hard time with the French language indications in the order system, here is a short help, hoping that this will assist you: The path to follow would be: commander>regler mes achats > regler maintenant > then fill in the address and name etc.., ("prénom" meaning "first name"), "pays" meaning "country": select "Etats Unis" for "USA", for example, or your own. , (ville = city), "livrer a cette adresse" means "deliver to this address". then > continuer. the amount shown at the following step indicated the delivery costs. Concerning the DVD in this edition, Lara’s people tried to clarify the issue, but ultimately ended up raising even more questions. They were asked directly (and not for the first time) whether there will be a DVD release of the movie “Un soir autor du monde” for fans outside France and Belgium (or, really, even for fans in those countries). Their response was, “A DVD with extracts of the movie is included in the Deluxe Edition sold on Amazon.fr (not to be confused with this Limited Fan Deluxe Box presented here). Team Lara”. They were then asked was it the same DVD in both the ‘Deluxe Edition’ and the ‘Fan Deluxe Box’” Their answer was, “There is only one DVD." But we still don’t know what ‘extracts’ of the movie really means…highlights? A select set of the songs? All the songs, but none of the extras to be shown in the full movie? Or is it really exactly what will be shown in the cinema, though they don’t want to say that for fear of reducing the audience of the ‘one night’ showing ? It would seen incumbent upon Lara’s team to clarify what they are asking people to purchase, but, again, they may have some disincentive for doing so [or there is some slight chance it hasn’t been decided/made yet…].
At the same time Lara’s people have been promoting the movie itself, in particular the appearances Lara will be giving for the preview showings. The location for obtaining tickets for the four shows is at (https://www.cotediffusion.fr/programmation/lara-fabian), which will be held on October 28-30 and November 1st. They also clarified that the general ‘one-night’ release will actually be on November 5th in Belgium, one day before its November 6th event in France. Answers from the fans are pretty much what you would expect (except for their mixed response to the music video). Among them there is a sprinkling from fans around the world, emphasizing again that Lara should generally put her announcements on her FB site in languages other than just French.
She also replies to some of the fans’ comments. Most of those are of the routine variety, but occasionally there is something of interest, or humor, intentionally or not. In the latter category, is this (translated) following exchange:

A well-known writer gave an interview in how to keep engaged with an audience on Facebook, and Lara seems to be following that playbook, consciously or not. Here’s what the author said:

“There are ways of dealing with social media… you take ten minutes twice a day or only once if that is all you afford, but go on everyday and you don’t have to try and read everything addressed to you or pertaining to you, but go through as much as you can in ten minutes. If someone says it is their birthday, stop and say “Happy Birthday.” Someone says my dog just died, stop and say you are sorry. Someone says something witty to you and something witty occurs to you, say it back. When you hit the end of ten minutes, stop. But the fact that you do it everyday and seem to be responding to people, it gives people the feeling you are actually there all the time. You aren’t and it does not eat you alive. I usually take about ten minutes and read through the first two or three screens of comments and reply to the ones that I can easily reply to and nobody notices you are not replying to the ones at the bottom because Facebook helpfully moves all the ones you do reply to up to the top, so anyone who is looking is like, ‘Oh boy, she is here. Lara adds to the process by posing innocuous questions, so she is guaranteed a response to play off of. For many years, fans have complained that Lara does not interact with her audience (and she herself said her interaction was primarily through the lyrics of her songs, and her concerts). So this is a positive change, and however she is doing it, we should be appreciative

We’ll see if it comes to pass; one can’t count the number of times things of this nature have been publicized without follow-through. One thing we doknow is that Lara is a wonderful duet singer…

This was the time of the year when Lara used to go to the New Wave Festival in Latvia, but as we now know, it has been moved to Sochi, Russia due to political issues (i.e., Ukraine). We’ve also now learned that it’s date has been changed – first it had been moved to August 25-30, but now it’s been pushed back even further, to October 2-11 (http://newwavestars.eu/en/information-about-the-changed-of-date-of-the-international-contest-new-wave-2015/). No indication that Lara is on board to go, but she would appear to have more time to decide. Otherwise, if things continue as they were this past week we’ll know what Lara is up to, because she’ll tell us on her FB site!
