Lara’s concert at the Famagouste Festival in Northern Cyprus took place this past week as scheduled. The setlist was:Je t'aime; J'y crois encore; Il est lune; Caruso; I guess I loved you; I will love again; Rony’s Solo; Alfosina y el mar; La diference; Make me Yours Tonight; Yeliel; Pas sans toi; Mademoiselle Hyde; Je suis Malade. Hence it was a standard ‘best of’ concert with the same musicians but without the standard ‘picture-frame’ sets. Her new single was not presented.
Some videos are available, generally not of the greatest quality, but enough so that a decent impression of Lara’s performance can be obtained. Some of the individual presentations can be found at:

Lara seemed to be in her usual good voice, and the audience seemed quite enthusiastic. A picture of the turnout available from the Lara Fabian Cyprus site and the ‘Odacity’ record company can be seen at:

with the Odacity caption, “Salamis Antique Theatre at its fullest capacity...around 6000 people filled up every space to share a magical night with Lara Fabian”.
On the surface then, it seemed as if this was just another one of her performances in other countries. Of course, it occurred in the light of controversy over her going to this location, which is widely contested due to its dominance by Turkey. However, Lara did not act hesitantly about her actions. She placed one advertisement of it on her FB page (something she doesn’t do for her performances in Russia), visible at:

Her one overt acknowledgment of the controversy came in her comments during the concert, where she said, “I want to thank you all for coming, for music, for peace, for love…”, that can be seen at:

Several articles concerning the concert have appeared. One at (http://gundem.emu.edu.tr/index.php/2015/07/10/lara-fabiandan-muhtesem-final/) includes some wonderful pictures, and is translated below (thanks to the Lara Fabian Is Here site for the link):

Spectacular finale of Lara Fabian
In the Famagusta Municipality, the 19'th International Famagusta Culture and Art and Tourism Festival, the program that brings together quality artists with a worldwide reputation, was ended in a worthy manner with the Lara Fabian concert. Lara Fabian took to the stage at the ancient theater of Salamis, on the festival's final night. The art and culture of our country with the international brand recognition in the Ancient Theatre, from 18 June-9 July was also the meeting place of friends in the charming atmosphere of the festival.
The world’s best-selling Belgian artist, having received the world music prize, has sold more than 20 million albums around the world, from her first French album, released in 1991, to her latest “Le Secret”. She closed the festival with all her international French and English hits. France and Canada's best-selling female artist was number one all over the world from Japan to America with her first English-language album, and was one of the most popular female artists. Lara Fabian "Je t'aime" signature song popped up as one of the world's best-selling French song.
The cosmopolitan audience, which consists of foreign audiences of different cultures and countries shared the excitement of the finale. For many, following the most beautiful hits of Lara Fabian, it was an emotional night. Lara Fabian started “Je t’aime” by expressing her happiness because of the Salamis Ancient Theater located in the extraordinary atmosphere. At the finale of the Festival, President of the Assembly Sibel Siber, Deputy Prime Minister Mentes Gunduz, deputy Famagusta and Cyprus joined the senior officials from the Russian Embassy…
Famagusta Mayor Ismail said in the introduction of the festival's closing speech that it is very important for the world to introduce Famagusta to both our countries, so that the festival next year would be better . The Mayor stated that the main architect who contributed to the festival is the Deputy Prime Minister of Economy, Tourism, Culture, Youth and Sports Ministry and Tourism with other sponsors. He thanked the Domestic LTD, Arkin Palm Beach Hotel, and Cyprus Turkish Petroleum for their contribution to Limassol Insurance.
To date, nearly 150 events with more than 450 artists including such world-famous artists Natalie Cole, Lorenna McKennitt, Bonney M, Bonnie Tyler, Goran Bregovic, appeared on stage, with this year world-renowned artists Lara Fabian, Christina Branco and Burhan Ocal, as well as our country’s important artists Hussein Red and Aysun Kahraman, important dance group from Turkey Ankara State Opera and Ballet Modern Dance Ensemble, [as well as some other groups].

Lara Fabian fans did not fit in Famagusta Antique Theatre at the Festival Finale
This year organized by the Famagusta Municipality, the 19th International Famagusta Culture and Art and Tourism Festival finale with the world famous Lara Fabian concert was held in a big way.
The worldwide renowned Lara Fabian, was worthy of the title, appearing in front of a fascinated audience with great enthusiasm on the final night, an audience that does not fit into the ancient theater. It had the pleasure of meeting the sensual Lara Fabian for the first time at the exceptional venue Salamis Theatre in the TRNC. In a short speech at the beginning of the concert she thanked everyone for coming to hear her music in peace. [The rest was pretty much the same as in the first article].

Back in France, another notable event was Lara’s (taped) appearance on the show “’Ce soir tout est permis” this past Saturday. The stock phrase, ‘A good time was had by all’ actually seems applicable. The show consisted of games of different sorts among the 7 panelists, and Lara was an active participant in most of them. Perhaps her worst showing was in the game ‘Articule’ [Articulate] in which one participant tries to mouth a word and have the other one figure it out. Some of the pairs were quite good with numerous successful ‘transfers’; Lara and her partner never got past the first word (Cocotier – coconut), as Lara could never get her partner (Arnaud Tsamère) to understand her. Ironic, because although it wouldn’t have really played a role here, one of the complaints some French fans have had is that on her recent songs, Lara’s diction (in French) has not been good. Really the failure was that the word did not lend itself to any ‘pantomine’ as to its meaning, which was very helpful to the other couples with their words. It became a running joke throughout the show.
She and her partners did much better with “Photomime” in which one participant sees a picture of something on a screen, and has to pantomime to let her two partners guess what it is. Also successful were ‘mimes in a chain’ where well-known expressions/phrases had to be passed on, again non-veerbally. She also correctly guessed that the hole her head was poking through was attached to the costume of ‘Catwoman’. The musical highlight was Lara’s short duet with “Shy'm” on a song about making pizza, sung to the tune of “L’aziza”. Lara showed herself to be a very good dancer, especially during a game called ‘La Choreographe” where the lead person gets a chance to originate dance movements, and the others have to follow. Clearly, she should incorporate her dancing into her own shows, and videos. It was also nice to see Anthony Kavanagh from Montreal on the program – you may remember Lara’s wonderful duet with him of ‘Il’s s’aiment”.
A video of the full show is, surprisingly, available on youtube at:

or
www.youtube.com/watch?v=cc6Qm0Xes6g
Lara’s ‘duet’ is at ~24:10 of the more than 2 hour show on the second link, with another singing opportunity coming along in a segment ‘Cap sur l’amour’ (Focus on Love) lasting some 6+ minutes starting at ~51:00. Her dancing opportunity in ‘La Choreographe’ can be seen starting at 1:43:30. Shorter videos of her playing the various games can be seen on youtube and at the Lara Fabian – PHQ FB site, among others. All in all, Lara was very natural and relaxed throughout, it was a great opportunity for her to appeal to the French audience, and she received quite positive reviews for it.
Lara did get in a commercial for her new single as well as for the concert in Prague that is be shown in the theaters (starting at ~1:03 on the show). Of course they also had to play a bit of ‘Je t’aime’ which Lara sang along to, good naturedly.
In other news, Lara was featured in an article in ‘gala’ (http://www.gala.fr/l_actu/news_de_stars/lara_fabian_chante_en_russie_pour_transmettre_ses_valeurs_339463); here’s the translation:

Lara Fabian Sings in Russia to Transmit her Values
Despite the polemics, she will refuse to cancel her concerts
In the course of an interview with Radio Canada, Lara Fabian released the reasons that pushed her to perform again and again in Russia. Concerts that often create controversy - particularly because of the positions of Vladimir Putin concerning the rights of homosexuals in his country.
"In a totally apolitical way, the aim of an artist is to continue to pass her values through music." Lara Fabian will not scratch Russia from the list of countries where she enjoys performing in concert - despite the controversy. Often criticized for her shows in this country, shows which can pro-homosexual, the singer was keen to defend her Russian audience- one more way to express her gratitude to her fans.
"The thought of an audience of a people is not necessarily one that matches that of a single person even if it is leadership," explains privately the Eurovision singer in making a direct reference to Vladimir Putin. Lara Fabian continued, "When I sing “Deux ils, deux elles” or “La Difference” [the songs whose subject is homosexuality, note], people get up in Moscow! In Russia and Ukraine, there is a kind of silence after the song, just seconds before people rose and applauded that simply says 'Thank you'. "
Recently insulted on Facebook, Lara Fabian had not reacted. This time, to defend her audience, the singer did not hesitate to establish the truth. Her experience in Russia is different from that which one would expect - and this is for her a very good thing.
---------------------------------------------------
While Lara is talking about Russia here, at least as far as controversy is concerned, she might as well have been speaking of Northern Cyprus, again differentiating the people from the government.
Lara was also featured in an article in ‘terrafemina’ (http://www.terrafemina.com/article/lara-fabian-mon-mari-et-ma-fille-lou-m-ont-enormement-aidee_a279028/1). While not containing anything new, it is nice that she is getting this play in a ‘family-friendly’ publication. The translation is:

My Husband and My Daughter Lou Have Helped Me Enormously
The singer Lara Fabian will soon return to the shelves. The occasion for her to thank her family for having sustained her during her illness.
Lara Fabian is better. Her new album “Ta vie dans la mienne” is announced for November 6, 2015. And if the singer is evidently happy about this fresh start, it does not mean she forgets that times were difficult.
Following an auditory shock, she had been constrained to follow an extremely heavy medical treatment and a period of forced and difficult rest, as she explained to the Parisien: “"I was exposed to a tremendous treatment, put on a drip in a hyperbaric chamber in a military hospital. I had to relearn everything. It gradually returned, thanks to my singing teacher, Patricia. I 'I cried my race! With such a problem, you realize that you are very human, fragile."Fortunately, in this event, she could count on the support of her family. "My husband and my daughter Lou helped me tremendously. The father of my daughter was very present. It was pretty amazing."
----------------------------------------------
Before leaving for her concert, Lara did apparently film the video for ‘Quand je ne chante pas’. She put several pictures of it on her FB site, at:

(with the caption, “On the screen”).
No indication of when it will appear. The single has not reappeared on either the French or Belgian charts.
We have no further indication of what will appear on the DVD to accompany Lara’s new single in the fall. The filmed concert we do know about, Lara’s show in Prague, is now being promoted by RFM radio in France (https://www.facebook.com/RFMradio/photos/a.438123189055.220779.31395019055/10153978483444056/?type=1&theater; (https://www.facebook.com/RFMradio/photos/a.438123189055.220779.31395019055/10153978483444056/?type=1&theater;
In somewhat of a side issue, you may have heard that Omar Sharif passed away this week. The relevance here was his starring role in the movie “Doctor Zhivago” from which Lara was named. As the story went, Lara’s mother wanted to call her ‘Laura’, but was worried that her small daughter would be confused because it was pronounced differently in Italy and Belgium (‘L_a_r_a in one, L_a_u_r_a in the other). The problem was solved when watching the movie, she noted the character’s name ‘Lara’, as that is pronounced similarly in both countries.
Interesting photo of the week (from the recent concert, as posted by the Lara Fabian Montreal site):

Lara has no events on her schedule for the foreseeable future, although some of her previously recorded promotional shows may still appear. It will be interesting to see whether she goes to the New Wave show which this year will be held in Sochi, Russia, instead of in Latvia. An article about it in the “Moscow Times” is quoted below:
--------------------------------------------------
Ban on Russian Singers Makes 'New Wave' Festival Leave Latvia for Sochi
The Moscow Times
The Russian organizers of the popular "New Wave" international music competition have decided to relocate, leaving behind its traditional venue in the Latvian resort town of Jurmala in favor of Sochi, according to an official statement issued by the Krasnodar region Monday.
The decision to swap venues was prompted by an earlier initiative by Latvian authorities banning Russian pop stars Valeriya, Iosif Kobzon and Oleg Gazmanov from entering the country in connection with their support of Russia's annexation of Crimea.
The pop singers had intended to visit Latvia for last year's "New Wave" festival, held in Jurmala in late July.
The contest has been organized annually since 2002 by Russian composer Igor Krutoy and Latvian composer Raimonds Pauls. Young singers between the ages of 16 and 30 are eligible to compete in the festival.
Latvian parliament member Andrei Klementiev told RIA Novosti on Monday that Jurmala may lose some 17 million euros ($20 million) because of the decision.
-------------------------------------------
The show had always been advertised as an important meeting place between eastern and western artists. Apparently no longer…we’ll see whether Lara has left it behind as well.

The show had always been advertised as an important meeting place between eastern and western artists. Apparently no longer…we’ll see whether Lara has left it behind as well.
