Lara continued her promo tour this past week with several radio interviews, that can be heard (again thanks to Opération Fan Club Lara Fabian) on youtube, first on
France Bleu:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=NIR_vs9uuSc
and then from “Nostalgie – Le journal de la musique”
www.youtube.com/watch?v=88G5vrlKelk
As usual, Lara noted that her illness and not being able to sing meant that she had to live life in an ‘ordinary’ way. She also indicated that the forthcoming album, (translated) “My Life in Yours” was so titled because its theme was her gratitude to those around her whom she really learned to appreciate and depend upon – that there is a song for her daughter, her mother, her best friend Nathalie, her husband…
In these various interviews, it is clear that the single “Quand je ne chante pas”, by relating the problems Lara had in everyday life due to her acoustic shock, forces the interviewer to imagine what it would be like for him/her to experience deafness, or the threat of it. When Lara sings “I’m just like you”, it rings true due to the universal possibility of having this malady, so it touches people – accomplishing the purpose that the best songs do.
Unfortunately, that quality does not seem to be translating into sales. It is no longer in the top 50 on the Belgian charts, nor in the top 200 in France. Airplay has been spotty, with the song more often than not played primarily on the channels that have an upcoming interview with Lara. It may have served to re-introduce her to the French public, but this reception shows just how long a way she has to go to win back their interest.
In France Bleu interview, Lara indicated there were photos and videos for the new album. In fact, this morning Lara put a picture on her website of her hair being styled,
www.facebook.com/larafabianofficial/photos/a.622966977744803.1073741829.201065806601591/940737272634437/?type=1&theater
with the caption, “In preparation for the filming of the clip”. She had noted previously that her new single would have an associated video, so presumably this will be it. If it follows the lyrics, it could contain images of Lara leading this ordinary life, in particular her going to school to pick up her daughter – will Lou be in it? That might contain enough interest for the French audience to get the clip played [although Lara might then be accused of exploiting Lou for commercial purposes].
The idea of multiple videos and photos brought to the fore the question of exactly what is on the DVD that comes as part of the ‘special edition’ sale with her new CD. Last week we as well as numerous fans thought it would be the concert from Prague, which is being released in theaters the same day as the new album goes to the stores. As discussed in that Update, we also believed this didn’t make sense for a number of reasons. If there really are multiple visuals along with the album, perhaps the DVD would contain them, instead.
Lara gave links to purchase these various items on her FB site:
------------------------------------------
Lara Fabian, her new album event, ‘Ma vie dans la tienne’, leaves the 6th of November!
Pre-order the album now on these sites:
> Amazon (CD + DVD) : www.amazon.fr/dp/B0107VV7JO
> Amazon (CD Standard) : www.amazon.fr/dp/B0107VS43Q
> Fnac (CD Standard) : bit.ly/1Hz6GOj
> Fnac (CD + DVD) : bit.ly/1CcGK99
Includes her new single, « Quand je ne chante pas » : youtu.be/8hK8Z8c61yA
(More info on the DVD soon)
--------------------------------------------
As the comment at the end indicates there will be more info on the DVD soon, people writing in to her website have requested it, without getting a response so far. (One would expect that if Warner wants people to pre-order this package, that should have been the first order of business). Lara has included videos at times with a new album (e.g., ‘Neuf’), so there are precedents for her. There would have to be a sufficient number to make a DVD worthwhile, however. And it leaves open the question of when the Prague Concert DVD would be released.
The advertisement for the new album from FNAC has the (translated) phrase, “Includes new and exclusive bonus tracks composed by Igor Krutoy - CD Album”. One can speculate that the ‘Special Edition’ CD contains bonus tracks from Lara’s work with Krutoi (perhaps titles we’ve heard at the ‘New Wave’ festival over the last few years, such as "Furious", "Running", "Yin and Yang", "Angel Pass Away"… - or even ‘Mama” or “Mr. President”, left off the French MZ version), while if one buys the CD alone - called “CD Standard” – it would have only the new album. Given that 12 new tracks are already planned for her new work, only a limited number of such additional songs would fit on one CD, leaving open the possibility that they might be audios on the DVD, instead.
Hopefully, all this speculation will be terminated shortly with word from Lara’s people, although there is the dark suspicion that if the DVD is really of the Prague Concert, releasing that information will hurt ticket sales for the movie theatre presentation. And given the commercial response of the French public to the new single, that event needs all the help it can get… . Promotion and sales for this event are still going on – Carrefour is now selling tickets, available at www.spectacles.carrefour.fr/places-cinema/cinema-retransmissions/retransmission-lara-fabian-gTOURCILAR.htm
Concerning that concert in Prague: Irina Popova has added some more nice videos from that show. Again, they won’t rival those Lara had taken professionally, but they are worthy of watching in the meantime, available at:
www.youtube.com/channel/UCfnmPfnXK31idvPBG87WTsg/videos
Meanwhile, Lara is currently on vacation, as she indicated with her ‘warm’ photo, at:
www.facebook.com/larafabianofficial/photos/a.215378125170359.50343.201065806601591/936691009705730/?type=1&theater
Accompanying it was the caption, “Sunshine, sweet sunshine”. The Larafabianweb site indicated she was in Andalucia, Spain. Lara also posted another photo, of herself with a friend from Quebec, at:
www.facebook.com/larafabianofficial/photos/a.215378125170359.50343.201065806601591/939922539382577/?type=1&theater
along with the (translated) caption, “With my friend Martin from Québec.... This Quebec which I miss so much... I love you my beautiful province.. Thank you my friend for having brought back its colors and her accent”. This led a few people to conclude Lara might actually have gone to Quebec, but that is unlikely – for one thing, her bathing in the warm sunshine is not what immediately comes to mind when considering that locale, and secondly, she is due in Northern Cyprus in two days for her upcoming concert.
And that concert definitely appears to be going ahead. The Lara Fabian Cyprus FB page (https://www.facebook.com/LaraFabianCY) notes the recent reference from ‘Bands in Town’ (http://www.bandsintown.com/event/10123649?artist=Lara+Fabian&came_from=127) and the site has been counting down the days. They also quote the comment from ‘Odacity Records’ (https://www.facebook.com/odacity), “All Cypriots, Greek and Turkish, will have the opportunity to enjoy Lara’s music live for the first time on the island of Aphrodite…” The controversy over Lara appearing in the Turkish governed part of Cyprus has not reached the level of outrage precipitated by some of her previous activities, perhaps because the Greek audience has had other things to think about…A picture advertising Lara at the Famagusta Festival can be seen at:

and the Lara Fabian Cyprus site has several other pictures:

In other news, ‘Charts in France’ had a contest to determine Johnny Hallyday’s best moment on stage (i.e., best live performance). And the winner, with close to 30% of the votes, was the ‘Stade de France’ from 1998 (thanks to Larafabianweb for the link: www.chartsinfrance.net/Johnny-Hallyday/news-97845.html#HMTmX8lvVsjOUMKO.99).
Quoting the (translated) article, “At that concert, the singer of Je t’aime [Lara] had sung the title ‘Requiem pour un fou’ with him for the occasion, offering an intense moment of emotion to the public, who still remembers it. For proof, this collaboration tops the category “Best Live duo”, with over 50% of fans. Launched on the radio and published in 2 CD titles, the single had climbed up to the eighth place in sales in March 1999. A plebiscite!”
Interesting photos of the week: Lara’s photo in the sunshine, shown above; and from Lara Fabian Italy and Operation Fan Club Lara Fabian, of Lara with Elodie Suigo at the France Bleu interview:

This coming week, Lara will continue with a promotional appearance recorded earlier. She will be on the program “Ce soir tout est permis avec Arthur”, to be shown on TF1 this coming Saturday,
www.facebook.com/larafabianofficial/photos/a.215378125170359.50343.201065806601591/937282776313220/?type=1&theater
In that regard, the Lara Fabian –PHQ site produced another candidate for ‘interesting photo’, available at
www.facebook.com/353946178085395/photos/a.353954938084519.1073741828.353946178085395/710119255801417/?type=1&theater
And of course that day will be her concert in Cyprus – independent of political considerations, hopefully all will go well, and the audience, of whatever ethnic background, will enjoy it.
