A quiet week for Lara returning from her concert tour, so attention focused on the chart position of Lara’s new releases: the double CD ‘Selection’, and the associated EP featuring the remixes of ‘Make Me Yours Tonight’. The Francophile sites have emphasized the EP. In particular, the remixes getting most of the attention were the Tom York ‘Lounge Mix’ and ‘Club Mix’. Like the other remixes they are available for purchase on many platforms (iTunes etc.), but are also available to listen to for free on ‘Spotify’ and ‘Deezer’, and even on Youtube. The versions are quite different from the original release, and have a hypnotic effect.
Lara’s fan sites have made an effort to push the EP up the French/Belgian charts. For example, the Larafabianweb FB site has been providing lists of links for radio stations where one can petition them to play it (https://www.facebook.com/permalink.php?story_fbid=1071778392837695&id=246805652001644). Lara noted on her FB site that the EP entered the iTunes dance charts in France in the number 13 position, and then later moved up to number 7. Tom York himself noted this morning that the club remix is the fourth most listened to song on French radio stations (https://www.facebook.com/tom.york.7).
The thought has been that this ‘more modern sound’ would appeal to the younger crowd that makes itself felt in chart positions, and to some extent that would appear to be working. For example, Lilly Rose Melody Depp, the beautiful daughter of Vanessa Paradis and Johnny Depp, noted on her page her appreciation for Lara’s singing (https://www.facebook.com/pages/Lily-Rose-Melody-Depp/846824612073165). Lara ‘fell out of relevance’ for some members of her own generation; the hope is that she can be appreciated anew by those really hearing and considering her work for the first time. This is not without precedent (e.g., Bonnie Raitt).
As far as ‘Selection’ is concerned, Lara noted that the day following its release it was already #5 on iTunes Turkey. Interestingly, although it is not yet in any numerical position, ‘Charts in France’ lists it (http://www.chartsinfrance.net/Lara-Fabian/Selection-a121383850.html), presumably meaning it is available in that country. As to the album’s relevance for the French audience: of the 22 total songs on the 2 CDs, 12 of them (including live performance versions) were not previously released on any studio album. The original version of ‘Make Me Yours Tonight’ was previously on the French charts for one week (in the 151st position).
On a more general availability note, the Lara Fabian Turkey FB site last week had the following statement: “To the fans of Lara in countries where ‘Selection’ is not available. We are in the process of setting up technically the possibility to import the CD from Turkey with the help of Amazon. It is rather complicated and will take a few more days to set up, as we intend to minimize the costs. More info in a few days.. Thank you for your patience…”
Lara also noted on her site what we have been hearing for a while, that that original version of ‘Make Me Yours Tonight’ was nominated for the Turkey Kral Music Awards in the category ‘best duet’, and she reminded people to vote (http://ktmo.kralmuzik.com.tr/kategori/en-iyi-duet). [Though if one goes to that link, one does not see that as a choice – could Lara have been given the wrong information?].
This increase in publicity associated primarily with a ‘dance music’ remix, would seem to be something of a mixed blessing for Lara. In a recent interview when talking about her first English album, she indicated that ‘I Will Love Again’, to which this latest release has ben compared, did not really represent who she was as an artist. As an example of the quieter side of Lara, Thierry Palomares on the MZ FB site (and also the Lara Fabian & Emmanuel Moire: LE duo site) noted that ‘Dalida’ passed away 28 years ago this past week, and pointed out Lara’s wonderful presentation of her song ‘Il venait d’avoir 18 ans’, available at:

Lara singing with just a piano is as far away as one could get from the ‘dance music’ release, yet it is certainly appealing. In the same vein, Lara added two more albums to her Youtube channel (https://www.youtube.com/user/larafabianoff/videos), ‘Neuf’ and Every Woman In Me (EWIM), both with reduced ‘volume’. In particular EWIM again shows the quality of Lara’s singing when she has just a piano for accompaniment (and the reviews for this album, what there were of them, were highly positive).
In other news, Lara actually has a concert appearance coming up in 10 days, although as usual for events such as this, she refrains from mentioning it on her website (so it was easy to forget). There is to be another gala with Igor Krutoi, this one in Minsk; he was there with his show last November, and it was so successful, he is back again with a show appropriately called ‘Encore’
eng.belta.by/all_news/culture/Evening-with-Igor-Krutoy-in-Minsk-on-15-May_i_80117.html [Note that the news article is in English]. Once again Lara will be present with her multi-lingual contribution, for a performance that may last anywhere from 15 to 45 minutes, if past shows are any indication.

And though not a ‘photo’ per se, the Lara Fabian – PHQ site posted a very creative montage of various Lara album covers as a lead-in to the new album expected for the fall of 2015, at:

Lara presumably will be going to Belarus this coming week. It’s unlikely she will comment about any of it on her FB site, so we’ll have to depend on reports from fans. The ‘Lara Fabian Connecting People’ site (http://vk.com/lf_cp) in particular will be the one to watch.
