Something old, something new, something borrowed…Actually, all of these appeared in the major items of interest this past week. In fact, one can argue that they’re all there in the release of Lara’s contribution to the new album released yesterday, ‘Les Stars font leur Cinema’, via her rendition of ‘Unchained Melody’. It is available to hear at:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=w2d9Us0_08M
Lara seemed to not want to fully repeat the standard way of singing this song, so she added various nuances, and broke the rhythm of the song in places. Some of these changes seemed to add quality, while others appeared to be missteps, interrupting the momentum of the song. In not wanting to just ‘redo’ her covers, there is a tendency on her part to ‘overthink’ (and there are numerous examples of that), yet her voice sounds so pretty here one forgives her almost anything. Fans seemed to be somewhat divided – I have found the more one listens to it, and gets used to its changes, the more compelling it seems. For those who want to listen again to the version from ‘Ghost’, it’s at www.dailymotion.com/video/x47yep_ghost-musique_shortfilms - that’s hard to beat!
The album itself has received a lot of publicity and promotion (just ‘google’ it), with many accompanying videos of various singers from the album talking about their favorite movies, or first movies, etc. (e.g., www.gossip-news.fr/2015/04/maude-tenny-elles-font-leur-cinema.html). ‘Glam Touch’ calls it ‘the musical event of the spring (http://fr.glam-touch.com/people/People/m-pokora-tal-inna-modja-tous-presents-dans-les-stars-font-leur-cinema.a/?focus=107559). However, Lara does not seem to be included in this barrage, at least not yet (she is of course away). We’ll see how well the album does; it certainly has a built-in set of adored songs. Just being involved should work to Lara’s credit.
[Lara put a notice of the album’s release (in French) on her FB site, with the following link: bit.ly/LSFLCiTunesDeluxe - which of course is the link to iTunes France, unavailable to users in other countries. Although this is an album that might appeal primarily to those familiar with the various French artists, it is another example in which, despite some half-hearted attempts to the contrary, Lara still thinks of her FB site as primarily for her French audience. She could easily have also put the link to it from amazon.fr (http://www.amazon.fr/Stars-Font-Leur-Cinema/dp/B00UXOSV9U/ref=sr_1_1?s=music&ie=UTF8&qid=1430227564&sr=1-1&keywords=les+stars+font+leur+cin%C3%A9ma), which does ship globally].
Continuing with this theme, both old and new are featured in the album “Selection”, being released today by ‘Odacity’ in Turkey and some other countries. Congratulations to Odacity for maneuvering through all the legal hurdles to get the album released, at least in the select countries. For those outside those locales, no word yet on how to obtain the full album.
Again in the ‘old and new’ category, Martin Finn produced a wonderful new mix of ‘Make Me Yours Tonight’ available (thanks to the MZ FB site) at:
www.facebook.com/hashtag/makemeyourstonight?source=feed_text
It is not on the ‘Selection’ album.
And in a separate ‘old and new’, for those who missed it: Lara’s ‘Essential’ album, in full, is available to hear at:

The other major news this past week concerns the last concerts on Lara’s current ‘northeast’ swing of her ‘best of’ (old songs)‘world’ tour. In a carry-over from last week, we obtained more videos of Lara’s concert in Stockholm, Sweden on 4/20 (thanks primarily to ‘Karozel’). These should be added to those made available previously, as linked in the last Update.

Lara did get some press – a little bit – in Stockholm. Photos and an interview are available at frontface.se/magazine/2015/04/22/lara-fabian-live-in-stockholm-photos-interview/#lightbox/4/. The interview is also available on youtube, at www.youtube.com/watch?v=xreeorZM3TA or www.youtube.com/watch?v=6wZwH30hfjA. First a translation of the article (thanks to Google translate):
----------------------------------------------------------
An absolutely magical evening inside the Circus out on Djurgården in Stockholm.
It is surprising that Lara Fabian does not have the same status in Sweden as "the other three great female vocalists / world artists!, Barbara Streissand, Celine Dion and Mariah Carey. Lara Fabian focuses not so hard on the "list of songs", but she writes more from within, with emotional attachment often linked to something of a more classical strain, except those remixes that struck around the world ("I Will Love Again").
Mrs. Lara Fabian (yes, she's married ... and is now actually a waiting period, (imagine what a delightful entertainment the little aspiring baby, every day ...) gave the audience more than full value for money. The sound was very good and light show was varied, as the feel of the songs changed.
It's a bit embarrassing for Sweden, that no more media follow-up of her visit was made. Frontface actually got the exclusivity of our own questions in the interview you can hear this in the video along with our own images.
We especially want to thank Alexandra Aaseby from Wonderland Event, who managed to "tame" Lara's management and thus ordered so that we got to meet Mrs. Lara Fabian in the dressing room after the concert, where we besides the interview, even got the CD booklets signed. We also send a thank you to Lara's security and management for cooperation in place.
Then, with a smile on his face could editor Peter Ortvik and Skindeepblogg.se editor Nathalie Ortvik tiptoe out and end up in the arms of autograph hunters and paparazzi’s, when we are satisfied sneaked out the back door .
----------------------------------------------------
Out of the mouths of babes – the interviewer made explicit what many of Lara’s fans have wondered for a long time, why doesn’t she get the press that a ‘diva’ of her capabilities deserves? True of course not only in Sweden, but also in her almost invisible passage through the U.S. and non-Francophile Canada. To answer the interviewer’s question: after many years of this same issue arising, one would have to conclude that Lara is most comfortable this way; otherwise she would make greater efforts to change things.
[BTW, one doubts that ‘Google translator’ actually got it right, in implying that Lara was expecting another child. Much more likely, the interviewer was referring to the one she already has.]
As far as the video interview is concerned, Lara as always provided thoughtful answers along with her ‘old stories’. As usual, when asked ‘what is next’, Lara prefers to live in the moment, so we didn’t get an update about any ‘new’ albums .
Then it was on to Helsinki on 4-24, and we are again fortunate to have many more videos, in fact practically the full concert thanks to ‘Monique R’.

There’s not too much to say about these videos, replicas of which we have seen now for months, except that people in these countries (especially Karrozel and Monique R) have wonderful recording equipment and there are apparently very liberal policies (no surprise) concerning using them in concert halls. Lara continues to hit all the right notes (the concert in Helsinki was especially wonderful) and she’s seemed very relaxed and chipper – even playing around with the audience a lot on ‘I Will Love Again’. She would seem to be fulfilling all the expectations of people coming to hear her, even if the public at large isn’t really aware of it. This interaction with her own public is, after all, what probably really pleases her.
In other news, Lara left the following statement on her FB site,
“I have supported Unicef for several years. I learned that in 2015, there were 20 % of children to vaccinate in the world. 20 % of children who do not have the chance to be protected from deadly yet totally avoidable diseases. Then let us help UNICEF to achieve the 100 % of children vaccinated in the world! Together, we can lend a hand and offer children a healthier and happier future. Lara now has her own Vevo channel, with (so far) primarily official videos from her first English album:
www.youtube.com/user/LaraFabianVEVO (Uploads). And the songs from ‘Nue’ has now been added to Lara’s youtube channel, www.youtube.com/user/larafabianoff/videos.
Still considering ‘old’ aspects, an interesting remix of ‘It’s A Wonderful Life’ is available at www.youtube.com/watch?v=QxwDyIZdLMk. A high quality audio of ‘Surrender to Me’ is at www.youtube.com/watch?v=3efuxhZQ_JE. And ‘Operation Fan Club’ has put together a nice medley of Lara singing ‘Je t’aime’, at: www.youtube.com/watch?v=jw_0mDhKDhM&feature=youtu.be (or youtu.be/X9HApT0WeWA without the text).
Interesting picture of the week, from the same site as the last video:

This leg of the concert tour is now over; one imagines Lara will be happy to go home, where it is probably warmer! She is free of concerts now until June 3 in Bratislava, Slovakia, followed by the June 5th concert in Prague that will be filmed for the ‘best of’ DVD.
